Dr. Perri!! If you've read any of my posts re doctors, the common thread is my fear of needles and pretty much pain, in general. For the last 2 years I've been doing EVERYTHING and ANYTHING to avoid the multiple surgeries that were ahead of me, from getting run over by an SUV, (while on foot). A few months ago, I dragged myself into Dr. Perri's office, ready to submit to the inevitable. From the second he opened the door, wearing what could have been a bespoke suit, gorgeous Italian shoes, (I'm a designer/stylist), a beautiful friendly smile, a friendly casual demeanor and my favorite scent...CONFIDENCE. We talked for a bit, reviewed my old MRI's, did some kooky physical exercises which confirmed his findings...I needed a Cervical, "Hybrid", surgery - (replace a disc and a fusion at a different level). Yikes! Actually, no yikes, at all! Aside from neck pain and very little range of motion, I was losing the ability to use my arms, hands and fingers. Surgery had to happen soon but he wouldn't touch me without new scans, a bone density and blood test and 6 weeks of pt because my neck wasn't strong enough or in a good enough place where I could get the best result. 1 month ago, I did it and it was incredible! I went to sleep, woke up a few hours later and could move my head, raise my arms over my head and bend my fingers and open and close my hands! AND didn't even and haven't had to take a pain pill. Yeah...HE IS THAT GOOD!! I knew he would be. Dr. Perri saved my life - sounds hyperbolic but it's not. These physicians work in the context of the Beverly Hills Spine Surgery (BHSS) center located near Cedars Sinai on San Vicente Blvd, although in-patient work is conducted at Cedars Sinair Hospital. In ALL interactions I have had with BHSS medical and administrative staff, I have experienced exceptional courtesy, compassion, and patience. Dr. Perri was a God-send for me. I have been dealing with an L4-L5 herniation issue for at least 12 years. It first became critical around 8 years ago. Chiropractics, acupuncture, physical therapy, and sports massage all helped to a point. But the pain was becoming increasingly demoralizing and my mobility was becoming hampered. I saw world-class surgeons at UCSF, and they concluded that I was not a strong candidate for surgery. They suggested that new techniques were around the corner if I could hold on for a few years. In November I had an incident that led to unbearable pain and extreme restriction on my mobility. I tried a number of therapeutic modalities for a couple of weeks, but finally my chiropractor told me that I needed a surgical consult. I called a number of surgeons at UCLA and USC, but I could not get a consult until February due to the impending holidays. My chiropractor called Dr. Perri's office, and they got me in the next week! When Dr. Perri looked at my MRI, he told me that he was clearing time in his schedule the following week (one week before Christmas!) to perform surgery. I really don't know how I possibly could have made it until February just for a consult. Dr. Perri is extremely friendly and easy to talk with. He made it clear to me that my condition was such that surgery was the only option: he said that if there were even a 5% chance of resolving the condition without surgery that he would defer to my decision to not do the surgery if that is what I wanted. After showing me the MRI and X-Rays and explaining the severity of the problem, it took me all of 2 seconds to agree to do the surgery. I am now 3 months out from surgery, and I am about 90% recovered, which is quite normal for the kind of complications I had to have addressed. Getting my follow-up appointments was very easy, and Dr. Perri has been thorough in explaining how the healing process is taking place and the bumps in the road I should expect. Dr. Perri's staff is first rate. From dealing with all the logistics at the consult to explaining all post-op issues to being available through phone and email, they have made the whole experience low-maintenance so I can concentrate on the most important matter at hand -- getting fully healthy again. read more

I had a excruded disc at L3, L4, L5, S1 plus a fragment and was in constant pain for two months straight. I'd come from another doctor who was rather fast with my treatment. Two packs of steroids and then shuttled me off to the amazing Paul Lee for pain management. Two steroid shots that did nothing though. This injury was so bad nothing helped. I was at my wits end. 34 and unable to do every day tasks. Dr. Perri sat me down, looked at my MRI, and explained EVERYTHING at ease and said that i'd have immediate relief right after surgery. He got me into surgery quickly and I'm SO happy to say now that I'm I'm fixed, am in PT, and have felt better than i ever have after 34 years of back pain. Dr. Perri's really awesome. He took a lot of time to listen to me and was really thoughtful instead of rushing to a diagnosis. I hate when doctors are too quick and don't have enough time for you. Back problems are really hard to figure out and it's hard to make decisions about treatment. It's been an ongoing process with Dr. Perri and he's been very open and helpful as the process goes on. He really knows his stuff. Mad props to his assistant Nalynn, she's HUGELY HELPFUL, both during office visits and when I need to contact them in between office visits. I had numbness for 5 years , saw 15 doctors , all wanted to do surgery right away,Not really knowing which procedure would truly help me. Simply put, Dr. Perri is fantastic. This was my first experience having surgery and I am very glad I had Dr. Perri as a surgeon. I was in excruciating pain and barely able to walk. After seeing a few surgeons and gaining very little insight into my condition, my chiropractor recommended I see Dr. Perri. He was able to see me quickly and after reviewing my MRI was able to identify that I had a herniated disc which had broken off and was pressing against my sciatic nerve. He was able to book me into surgery in about a week and afterwards I felt immediate relief - back to work in about 5 days. In the months since my surgery I have made a full recovery - through physical therapy (he has great recommendations for therapists), yoga, etc I have virtually no back pain and feel stronger than I ever have. Throughout the whole process Dr. Perri and his staff were all consummate professionals and were always available to answer any questions or concerns I had both pre and post surgery. I've seen Dr. Perri twice this year for lower back pain. Dr. Perri and his entire staff are professional, kind, and motivated to find a solution to the pain. During my visits, Dr. Perri took the time to clearly understand the problem before he made any recommendations. He also took the time to review and explain my X-ray and MRI results in detail. The thing I appreciate most about Dr. Perri is his goal to make sure I can maintain the quality of life that I had before the back pain. I am a runner and have a goal of running one marathon per year. I was worried I would be told to avoid running and that a marathon per year would not be possible. But instead, Dr. Perri reassured me that if I want to keep running, I should keep running. He said he would continue to work with me to find a solution to the pain. My GP saw something in an X-ray that was done during a yearly physical. He sent me to see Doctor Perri. First off, meeting Doctor Perri for the first time was like meeting an old friend. Listening to him, talking to him was a "comfortable procedure". He made me feel at ease...without "making" me do anything at all. I ended up having two separate spine surgeries with Doctor Perri....both were out-patient operations. I'm about 85% recovered and have ZERO complaints. Dr. Perri is an excellent surgeon, it is no surprise to see dozens of 5 star reviews. I too was very fortunate to have Dr. Brian Perri as my surgeon. At 20 years old, I had a tumor in my sacrum. I had been in severe pain for almost a year, and every other doctor called me a hypochondriac. Dr. Perri saw a suspicious shadow in my imaging (missed by others), which led to the discovery of the tumor (S1-S4). Thanks to him, I am now 7 years post-op and living tumor free. The tumor was expected to be a challenging resection, but the operation surpassed all expectations. On top of being an excellent surgeon, Dr. Perri also has incredible bedside manner, and he is someone you can trust. It is easy to see how much he cares about his patients and the best course of treatment. After a couple of in-patient consultations for an emergency spinal fusion, Dr. Perri seemed to be the only one who shared my opinion favoring surgery. I'm no expert but, I know my body better than anyone, and Dr. Perri appreciated that. The post-surgical assessment proved we were right; surgery was inevitable so, needless to say, I'm glad we gave it the immediate green-light. 18 months later and I can't imagine what life would be like had I trusted anyone else. No question or need goes unanswered - from my initial appointment to my six month post-surgical appointment, Dr. Perri and his staff were wonderful! Dr. Perri is my hero. He repaired my spine after another, (supposedly a top Cedars Sinai spinal surgeon,) put a screw into my nerve. From the moment, I woke up from surgery I was in extreme pain. For six months I suffered from sciatic pain and could barely walk. My original doctor did nothing to help me. In desperation, I went to Dr. Perri for a second opinion. He told me a screw was put into my nerve, and I needed surgery to repair it. Surgery with Dr. Perri defines what it's like to have a talented, caring surgeon as your doctor. If I had a problem Dr. Perri would immediately call back. He took the time to make sure I understood what was happening. Two weeks after surgery the pain was gone. A few months later the nerve pain was back. Fortunately, Dr. Perri didn't waste time and immediately sent me for an MRI. A vertebra was touching a nerve, and I needed another fusion. Dr. Perri's compassion and follow-up helped make a painful operation easier. Dr. Perri is the epitome of what a good bedside manner means. Dr. Perri carries about his patients. He treats everyone as though they were a family member. I'm 3 months post-op and I'm free of pain. Dr. Perri has given me a chance at a life without pain. Terrible place to go get treated and a very distracted doctor. If he saw me on the street I doubt he'd know he ever examined me. The place is like a factory line, first appointment an MRI hadn't been pre- ordered so he basically walked in and said he couldn't do anything. They still charged me over 300 dollars to order the MRI and the follow up was just as incompetent. After a lengthy intake I was walked to a room with assistants and tons of computers where he showed me what he thought was wrong. Then I was told to go back to the original room which had a new patient in it. I waited in a hallway for 10 minutes then was pointed in 10 directions. In the end they past me to another dr there... dr. Loder to do a shot. How convenient for their giant practice. I can't believe that's even ethical. Anyway, needless to say I got a second opinion that felt the shot dr. Perri ordered was far too aggressive. They are all about the money and zero patient care.... unless of course you're a pro athlete. read more

Prior to my back surgery, my left big toe was numb. When Dr. Perri reviewed my MRI, he recommended that it wasn't a matter of if I'd need surgery, but when, and sooner rather than later. I have a good health insurance policy-- Anthem Blue Cross PPO-- and he required $12,000 out of pocket a week prior to the surgery. After the surgery, my entire left leg was, and still is, numb. His staff kept telling me that this is normal, but when I met with Dr. Perri for my 2 week appointment, he was surprised that my entire leg was still numb. He scheduled an MRI, but couldn't see what's causing the numbness. He said that I could wait to see if it gets better, or he could do another surgery. His billing department told me that the follow-up surgery would be a $39,000 surgery, but that he would give me a 75% discount and do it for $9,000 out of pocket. WTF!!! After I already paid him $12,000 and I went from just my big toe being numb to now my entire leg is numb, he wants another $9,000! No thank you! read more

So, if you're ever wondering how a spinal surgery should be done here's how and who can help you out. My husband has had two "exceptionally" and "successful" surgery with one of the Best orthopedic physicians at Cedars Sinai - Dr Brian Perri. My husband had a spinal cyst removed in 2008 by Dr Perri. As of today, no complaints or any associated pain interference. My husband's recovery was very short considering normal recovery time. Most recently he inderwent a cervical spinal fusion which was also successful. He's doing very well and again recovery is ahead of schedule. I couldn't ask for better results. Dr Perri's office personnel - the "Entire Staff" including his Assistant Nalynn and Surgery Coordinator Erika are all professional and efficient staff. His staff makes you feel welcomed at all times and they all go above and beyond their call of duty including having Dr Perri call his patients off duty and before boarding a plane to come see a patient in an emergency situation as in the case with my husband who needed him earlier this year with his spinal pain condition. Dr. Perri performed a discectomy on me in March of 2016. I went from being in excruciating pain the entire day to immediately feeling better. I barely limped into the surgery center at 6am, and went for a 2 mile walk at 2pm later the same day. My wife was pregnant at the time and I could not imagine what life would be like for our child without Dr. Perri's help. I recently had my second ADR surgery with Dr. Brian Perri. To say my surgery was an overwhelming success would be a huge understatement as well as a disservice to Dr Perri. My surgery was life changing! Dr. Perri is everything that is right with healthcare today, and that is not easy to find these days. He is kind, caring, compassionate, knowledgeable, articulate, professional, relatable and beyond talented. Dr. Perri performed my original ADR surgery in 2013 , at level C6-C7. The results were instant and and I was back to 100% immediately. I could not have been more pleased with the outcome or more grateful to Dr. Perri. Six weeks ago I had my second ADR surgery with Dr. Perri. This time, the surgery was a two level ADR surgery, at levels C3-C4 and C5-C6. Prior to this surgery, I had been in tremendous pain and was experiencing increasing numbness and weakness in my arms and hands. I had delayed proceeding with the recommended surgery for a while, because of the ongoing pandemic. Finally, I got to the point, where I couldn't wait any longer and needed to proceed immediately. Then unexpectedly, my insurance company then tried to force me into a spinal fusion surgery, which was NOT the recommended surgery for me and definitely not the route I wanted to go. Dr. Perri and his incredible team went to bat for me with my insurance provider. They were there for me, throughout every step of the process. The first step was a Peer to Peer review between Dr. Perri and "doctors" employed by my insurance company, followed by a lengthy appeal process. Dr. Perri, Vanessa, Priscilla and the rest of his team were incredible in dealing with my insurance company and getting them to ultimately approve the recommended, medically necessary two level ADR surgery. I would never have been able to navigate the process of dealing with my insurance company without the guidance and knowledge of Dr. Perri and his highly skilled team. I had my first post-op appointment two weeks after my surgery and I could not have been happier with the results. The improvement was instantaneous and all of my previous symptoms are long gone. At the first post-op appointment , Dr. Perri gave me the okay to go back to the gym. This was a HUGE thing for me, as I workout 7 days/week and I am an highly active person. Dr. Perri is a genius and is truly the best in his field. I am eternally grateful and I cannot thank Dr. Perri and his amazing team enough for all that they had done for me. Dr. Perri saved my life. Not literally, but almost. Ok, yea, he did. A different surgeon at a different hospital was doing surgery on me and accidentally broke the joint off the side of my spine -- and left it that way. With no hardware to hold my spine up. And then he hid it from me. When I figured it out (ordered my medical records) the other surgeon said I didn't need hardware and my new excruciating pain would improve. It didn't; it got worse. I saw Dr. Perri for a second opinion. After doing some tests, Dr. Perri explained that my pain was caused by my spine collapsing onto the nerve leading to my leg. A fusion of my spine at that location, to hold the spine stable, was the solution. But I was afraid to have another surgery (can you blame me?). So I said I wanted to wait. Dr. Perri was always available when I wanted to call and ask (yet another) question, to give advice about physical therapy, to give opinions about other doctors I might see (I was living in another city at the time). But he never pressured me to have surgery. His assistant, Nalynn, is always just an email away with every other random question I had. Finally I couldn't take the pain any longer: I couldn't work, I could barely walk, I went from the recliner to the bed. I realized my life as I had known it was over. So I scheduled the surgery with Dr. Perri. He is so kind, so patient, so understanding, and so smart, and it made the entire process like I was doing the surgery with a family member who cared about me. The surgery went smoothly (everyone at Cedars Sinai is stellar), I was in a room that was nicer than the hotel I stayed in the night before, and Dr. Perri saw me every day in the hospital. It has been a year and a half and I just wish I'd had the surgery sooner. I am now working, exercising, and once again living my life. So you see? Dr. Perri saved my life. read more

Dr. Perri is simply the first choice for many people I have to talked to and I am pleasantly surprised that I get to be one of the first reviews. The first thing to notice is how precise and experienced he truly is, he made me feel thoroughly informed but not overwhelmed. Like any other doctor, he used medical terms but his warm and personal explanations were just the right touch to keep me calm. He made himself available through emails, which really helps whenever a question pops up and although his responses were informative, they mainly help me stay calm. I truly enjoyed the visits especially because he was genuinely pleased to answer every single question I had. Dr. Perri and his office staff are awesome! I have suffered with back and leg pain for 6 years. Local Doctors kept treating me with shots and meds, while telling me they couldn't find anything. Within minutes of looking at my films, Dr. Perri was able to find the source of my pain, put together a plan to address, and work toward a permanent solution rather than keep covering up with meds. I drive from 4 hours away to see Dr. Perri. He and his staff have been so accommodating, doing all that they can to keep me from driving down unless it's completely necessary. We have able to communicate with phone apts, online chats, and ordering tests to be done locally. He has first class office staff. All calls and emails where returned the same day. After being in constant pain, and difficulties to walk from bed to kitchen, I was pain free just 3 hours after walking into Dr. Perri's outpatient surgery center. No pain pills starting on day 1 after surgery. Was able to walk 3.5 miles on day 5. Today is day 15, and I am feeling great thanks to Dr. Perri. I should have done it months earlier. The Yelp reviews for Dr. Perri are outstanding. This review is not for the doctor, but instead his office administration. Beverly Hills Spine Surgery name and website gives you the initial impression that this is a tight running ship, but nothing could be further from reality. -Dr. Perri's clinic coordinator Nalynn's phone # (310) 423-2673 is incorrect. -When you call the office, you usually get a voicemail during normal business hours. -When you call 323-319-2897 again and finally get a human being, you're told that this is the main office, but not where Dr. Perri is located. Try 310-746-5918. -You get a human being, finally! Nalynn's not available, she's "in clinic". Of course! -Oh and Dr. Perri is booked up till... October! 4 months from now. -Plus he's out-of-network. -When you have questions about insurance, you're told to call 424-250-9616. Told to ask for Desiree at their billing department. Here's where things get really interesting... -You call billing and ask for Desiree and the rep responds, "I can help you." I repeat, I would like to speak to Desiree. "I can help you." I ask, is Desiree not available? "I can take a message." -3 days pass and no word. I call again, may I speak to Desiree? "Was is this concerning? How can I help you?" It then becomes obvious that Desiree has forcefully threatened her staff at all costs to never ever EVER transfer calls to her. You'll have an easier time speaking to POTUS. -FINALLY connected to Desiree. I mention, why so difficult to speak to her? "Because I receive too many calls so that's why they try to help, so how can I help you?" completely brushing off my complaint. -Desiree asks, "Dr. Perri... For which office?" I'm not sure. "San Vicente?" San Vicente? Where? Which part? "Los Angeles". Yeah, but San Vicente runs the length of the city! "In Los Angeles". Where is the other office? "3rd Street" 3rd Street Promenade? "3rd Street." Downtown? "In Los Angeles." It's like butting your forehead against a brick wall. I cannot even imagine what it must be like dealing with insurance and billing with these guys if you have to actually undergo spine surgery. My back hurts just thinking about it. read more

I bulged 3 cervical disks, (C4,C5,C6) 10 yrs ago while working out. The MRI also showed degeneration in C7.Throughout the decade the pain and numbness in my hands, neck, between my shoulder blades as well as the back of my shoulders got worse. At times debilitating. I've known for some years, yet chose to ignore that I was going to need surgery. I'm a massage therapist and have worked on countless numbers of individuals in my 15 years of practice who have shared horror stories resulting from botched surgical procedures. One GP told me not to get the surgery and try to deal with the pain. The past year the pain got intolerable. I lost a substantial amount of strength in my hands and forearms.I kept pushing it with work because i have children that depend on me as well as clients. I called him a few weeks later. Left a message and got an immediate call back from him. Same bedside manner. I had my surgery on July 9, 2013. It only took 2.5 hours. I went right home after. I am completely out of pain! Best way to describe my range of motion is far better than I can ever recall. Dr Perri used a special type of titanium artificial replacement disk on me, 2 tiny plate like disks that sit on a pivot. The incision was made in the front of my neck, a lil more than one inch in length. no muscles were cut. I have read some of the other reviews and one person mentions that Dr Perri gave him his life back. If you have spine issues you know what this pain is like.You cant remember what it was like to feel normal and not be in agony all the time. After years of suffering from chronic lower back pain, I can happily say that I am virtually pain-free, and this is 100% thanks to Dr. Perri. At only 30 years old, the thought of having back surgery was a bit daunting, but if there's anyone who can make you feel comfortable and well-informed about what you can expect, it's Dr. Perri. He truly is a world-class surgeon, with the type of A-list clientele that will make you wonder how in the world he's so personable & accessible to the average Joe. I was referred to Dr. Perri by my chiropractor after months of failed chiropractic treatments and physical therapy. Having a herniated L4/L5 disc but being rather young of age, Dr. Perri was very cautious and meticulous about making sure we exhausted all courses of treatment before resorting to surgery. He took his time in explaining every option available to me, and truly went out of his way to ensure I felt at ease and knowledgeable about all procedures before making his recommendations. Since I had to fly out to Chicago for a business trip the week after my initial consultation with him, he recommended that I try an outpatient epidural procedure so that I would be alleviated of the pain during my trip. He even made it a point to call in a personal favor to his good friend and colleague, Dr. Nicholas Fuller, to squeeze me in to have the epidural done on the same day as my consultation with Dr. Perri since he knew I had traveled over 4 hours from my home just to see him in his Beverly Hills office. Not only that, but because the procedure was to occur that same day, Dr. Perri's team and Dr. Fuller's team worked together to expedite the pre-authorization process with my insurance company. Over the course of my trip to Chicago, Dr. Perri and his assistant, Nalynn, were wonderful about following up and staying in contact with me to see how I was doing. Although the relief from the epidural wore off fairly quickly, Nalynn was extremely helpful in getting me back in to see Dr. Perri as soon as possible. In fact, all of my correspondence with Nalynn was always prompt and personal, which was a pleasant surprise since most doctor's office I have contacted previously are typically very slow about returning calls or emails. So having Nalynn assisting with the logistical aspects of my overall experience with Dr. Perri was truly a remarkable bonus. When I returned from my trip and re-visited Dr. Perri, he was very thorough in presenting me with what next steps we could take. Part of what I respect and appreciate most about Dr. Perri is his approachability, never once appearing condescending or pretentious, but rather, having a sincere concern for ensuring I was getting well-educated about my options and most of all, the best care possible. Don't bother going anywhere else. 12 weeks after my challenging ADR L5 I am fully recovered, bending more than ever and walking miles. Had been suffering for a year, bone on bone thanks to DDD. Chiropractors were no use and until an MRI (shop around if you are paying) they were clueless. I saw an in-network Dr first, would have been thousands cheaper but you get what you pay for, he was a dumb dumb and sent me on my way with "there's no surgery for this." 2nd Dr was okay but kept me waiting 3 hours for my appt. I couldn't get past that. Struck gold with Dr Perri, based on these great reviews and much online research I made an appt. Worst part was the wait cause he's so popular. But worth it I promise. He is just as amazing as everyone says here. Smart, kind and cool. My Anthem insurance didn't wanna cover the surgery (hospital costs) til Dr Perri took the time to call and talk to a Dr there. I'm pretty sure most doctors would have just said sorry, you got denied. I did try swim therapy and land therapy for 2 months, no one was in a rush and this doctor isn't surgery hungry. Didn't waste $ on epidural, Dr Perri said it wouldn't help this situation. Nalynn (the Queen of efficiency) knows her stuff and emails back any and all concerns immediately. Dr. Perri performed surgery on me 5 months ago, and I am extremely happy with the results. He was the second doctor I saw, referred by my physical therapist, and he recommended a major operation to tie from T10 to L5 together. This would correct a number of different problems I was having tying my entire lower back together. He also sent me for a CAT scan as well as X-rays. The first doctor that I saw only recommended tying L4-L5 together, although he did not have the most recent MRI. He sent me for an MRI, but did not recommend a CAT scan. I saw two other doctors after Dr. Perri, both from a list of the top 50 spine surgeons in America. The 3rd doctor also recommended tying T4 and T5 together. I asked him what he thought about some of the reasons Dr. Perri had recommended a more extensive surgery, and he brushed them off as not needing correction at this time. The last doctor, at USC, helped me a lot. We spent at least a half-hour discussing the options and why the major surgery would be my best option. He went through the pros and cons in detail. I had already scheduled the surgery with Dr. Perri because I was so comfortable with him. I went through it again with Dr. Perri to confirm. He was very helpful. After the surgery, when I had questions, I could email they were in, his assistant, and get immediate replies. Before I learned this, I had left a message that I needed to talk to him right away about something which I thought was important; he called me back the next morning and told me that I was overly concerned, which reassured me. After the surgery, I talked to lot of people and mentioned Dr. Perri's name. Everybody who had heard of him, including a spine surgeon, said that he was the best. He said it takes a special gift to do successful spine surgeries, and Dr. Perri has that gift. My own experience corroborates this. My 7 1/2 inch incision healed rapidly, and all of the professionals I was in contact with after the surgery told me that I was recovering remarkably fast. This contrasted with a shoulder surgery I had had previously, where I was in pain for much longer and recovered more slowly. I can't recommend Dr. Perri and his team highly enough. read more

Dr. Perri literally saved my life. I have a herniated disc and it was causing nerve problems. 5 weeks ago today I underwent a non invasive out patient procedure. I am not going to lie, the recovery was tough. I was out of work for 3 weeks. However, the very next day I was able to feel both of my feet and the right side of my body. It may be slightly cliche, but if you are ever in need of a back surgeon, you could not find a better man than Dr. Perri. His amazing Clinic Coordinator Nalynn Asavisanu, as well as the rest of his staff are all caring, wonderful people who are just so happy to help you through everything involved. They help ease your mind and your body as well. Dr. Perri, on the other hand, not only heals your back, he heals YOU. He doesn't talk over or past you. He listens to you and looks you in the eyes and treats you like a human being is supposed to be treated. It's almost like talking to an old friend. Plain and simple, he cares. He will sit with you as long as it takes for you to understand and make informed decisions. He explains your options and the affects of those choices. His surgical skills are obvious once you had a surgery. He fixed the problem and made several follow up calls to me to see how I was progressing. I didn't have to come into his office to talk to him, he would just call me up out of the blue and ask how I was doing. I was amazed. I guess I shouldn't have been surprised because throughout the entire process he answered emails or phone messages quickly as did his clinic coordinator Nalynn. Any question, no matter how silly or serious, were all treated equally and answered promptly. These people know how to put you at ease in the most serious of situations and it was very much appreciated by me. I would recommend Dr. Perri and his staff to anyone who would listen to me. Dr Perri is great!!! A true professional, amazing attention to detail, caring, and takes his time to explain and answer questions until you have none left. My father had a neck surgery and three month later a lower back surgery. Dr Perri came by four days in a row to change his dressing and follow up with him until the day he was discharged. The purpose of my review is to share my lower back (L5/S1) surgical experience with Dr. Perri and his excellent team (Nalynn and Catherine). I made contact with Dr. Perri after I had a previous surgeon complete a discectomy (L5/S1). Unfortunately the discectomy didn't accomplish what I'd hoped for and I wanted a more permanent solution. Specifically my lower back would still go out and I would be laid up for a few weeks. My issues were beyond just back pain. My issues were pain down my right leg. It was eating at me mentally. When I met Dr. Perri I quickly realized that he wasn't just technically sound (surgical skill) but his ability to listen and demonstrate compassion is the best I've been around (I'm 46 years old). Dr. Perri was recommended to me as one of the premier back surgeons and I have to agree with that assessment. He listens and then if he believes he can help - he will tell you exactly how. He doesn't try and push surgery - unless it's the last option. He is confident and caring. In the past, when I've met surgeons who are very skilled at what they do, bedside manner can sometimes be lacking. Not Dr. Perri and not his staff. Nalynn and Catherine made me feel cared for and always answered my questions and showed true compassion. They worked with me on insurance issues and were advocates for me when insurance was being difficult. On the day of surgery Dr. Perri once again demonstrated patience and compassion. I ended up have a prodisc implant (L5/S1) and my back is far stronger than it was pre surgery. I still have some electricity running down my right leg - but I believe it's getting better. I had 2+ years of the nerve being impinged so it may take some time for full relief. In conclusion, I can't recommend Dr. Perri enough. And I can't be more appreciate of the care Nalynn and Catherine provided me. If you are reading this you are most likely suffering similar symptoms to what I described above. In late 2012 I came to Dr. Perri with what turned out to be a severely herniated L4/L5 disc that needed surgery. After rehab and following everything he has told me to do, I am now pain free and back to my very active lifestyle. I'd been suffering with severe back pain and sciatica for about 15yrs. I was 26yrs old when it started and was advised by doctors to try stretching, core strengthening exercises, over the counter pain relievers, chiropractors, prescription pain killers, acupuncture ...but my pain and mobility continued to get worse as I aged. At 30yrs old, spine surgeons said that there was either nothing that they could do other than pain management as is was part of aging and or I could try a fusion that may or may not help. I'd read a lot about spinal fusions and the fact that most people where at the same level of discomfort a few years after the surgery was concerning. I was also relatively young and wanted to avoid surgically immobilizing myself if possible. I'd heard of Artificial Disk Replacement (ADR) surgery through online support groups. There were people that were having ADR done in Germany and then shortly after were pain free and returning to normal levels of activity. The only problem was that insurance wouldn't cover the procedure in Germany and I didn't have the money to pay for it in myself. The next few years, I saved money and did my best to manage the pain/disability. At 39yrs old, I was to the point I could no longer walk without assistance, was losing control of my bladder, had extreme pain 24/7, and had lost most feeling below by waist. I came across Dr. Perri's name while researching the doctors that were performing ADR in Germany and was surprised to see that he was in the US and had trained with the surgeon I'd been wanting to see abroad. I made an appointment and got a fresh MRI the day before my visit. Dr. Perri did and examination, reviewed my x-rays and MRI, then recommended that I get a surgery done ASAP due to the severity of my symptoms. The MRI revealed that my spinal cord was almost completely compressed due to a very large disk herniation in my lumbar region. I had ADR surgery the next day and have not had one bit of sciatica or back pain since. It's been about a year and a half and I'm still going strong. I had to use a walker for a few days after surgery and then did a few months of physical therapy before I was fully mobile, but now I feel just as good as I did before I ever had back issues. Other than my parents that brought me to life, Dr. Perri is the most important person that I've met. He's given me a new life and I'm forever grateful to him. I can't thank him and his staff enough. I went to see Dr. Perri for low back pain that I have been struggling with for the past year. Although Dr. Perri was out-of-network for my insurance, he was highly recommended by my Internist. When I called to make a new patient appointment with Dr. Perri, I was able to get a consultation within the next week (very surprising, as many new patient appointments for specialists usually take weeks). The appointment with Dr. Perri was a lot longer and detailed than I anticipated. After thoroughly going over my scans, Dr. Perri referred me for regimented physical therapy. I am currently four weeks into therapy and I honestly already feel improvement. I have a follow-up in two more weeks and am excited to tell him about the progression I have made.
