We've never been to a more accommodating and generous place! We were married here a year ago and invited back for a complementary stay to celebrate our 1st anniversary. Beautiful location surrounded by beautiful country and great day trip options. Our wedding was spectacular with complete use of the facilities. Our guests loved each room, enjoyed the staff, pool, hot tub, horses, porches, EVERYTHING! The best thing they've given us are our memories. We wanted a last-minute night away over Mother's Day weekend and luckily a room was available. The Hen Room was wonderful and attached to a kitchen with coffee/tea large fridge, dishes, snacks, drinks. Very clean, like-new accommodations. The large King bed was comfortable and the robes and towels to use were an added touch as we ended up spending the afternoon at the pool. It's a very serene setting and close to Middleburg and all it has to offer. Thanks to Ellen for working with us last minute. Great place with our small dog. The breakfast was super good with a delicious potato casserole, pancakes, fresh fruit, etc. My husband is has celiac disease and so they prepared strictly gluten free items for him which was very nice and they were happy to do it. The staff at BPB&B was so welcoming and accommodating. What my husband and I love most about our experience was that we felt as if we were on a secluded island. The property was not only beautiful, but very peaceful. We stayed in the Rooster Room which had its own private bathroom and entrance. BPB&B is our new spot for R&R! Can't wait to go back. read more

The Briar Patch is amazing. We had our wedding in early December and it was beautiful. It involved: - 100-person rehearsal dinner - 25-person bridal party that all stayed for 2 nights (so fun) - 200-person reception (BP had tables, chairs, and a bunch of other decorative supplies we could use) Ali and Henriette were so wonderful to work with and made the experience so easy. Ali even offered to go to Leesburg to get us a mac adapter for the rehearsal dinner slideshow when we realized last minute we didn't have one. The breakfast was delicious, there were tons of places inside and outside for us to take getting ready photos, family photos, and bridal party photos. The venue is so elegant, especially at sunset when the chandeliers light up. But having all of our friends stay there also made the whole event feel home grown and laid back. We wanted both and we felt like we got it. We are so thankful we got to have our wedding at the Briar Patch! read more

Nothing horrible, but you can certainly get MUCH better service for your money... My husband and I were pretty disappointed in our experience at this B&B. I'm not sure if it's because the owners were away at a wedding and left young staff in charge or if the B&B is just run differently from what we have experienced. Overall, our stay lacked the attention-to-detail, service, and presentation we usually get at B&Bs. There were no personal touches. We did not feel like guests(/customers) of aproprietor, but rather distant relatives that were hosted out of obligation and nothing more. Other B&Bs have welcomed us, given us personalized notes, and sent us off with warm wishes. We got none of that at Briar Patch. While breakfast was very tasty, I have never been at a "self-serve" place where one option of food is just put on the counter and you get it yourself. The other places I have been usually have a small menu where guests can choose from one or two things cooked-to-order. And the meals are usually served rather than do-it-yourself. Also, usually there is a window of time to get breakfast, for example from 8-10:30, instead of just 9am... get it or miss out. Moreover, they leave the breakfast dishes sitting out 24 hours per day, collecting dust. (Clean ones, but they were left out 24/7.) Young staff didn't know much about the area and when asked about things to do, didn't really have any suggestions. When my husband and I visit a B&B, we often don't plan much of our weekend because we want recommendations from the local experts - our hosts. This resulted in us fumbling with a bunch of brochures Saturday morning and getting recommendations from other guests. The staff were also not super knowledgeable about the property. We asked a staff member where the dog play area advertised on the website was and she did not know. Our room was not cleaned during our stay. When we returned after being gone fortheday, our bed was unmade and the trash had not been cleared. The sheets also did not have the luxury feel that other B&Bs of the same price range feature. Additionally, we knew we were sharing a bathroom with another couple, but thelogistics of it struck us as weird. The shared bath had a lock on each door so when one couple was using it, they could lock the other out. Well, the other couple forgot to unlock our side in the middle of the night which meant we had to knock loudly and yell until they awoke and unlocked it.Embarrassingfor us all. (Not the B&B's fault, but a further annoyance.) We paid an extra $200 for a cooking class. The schedule of it was very confusing. We website said it started at 6pm but a staff member said 6:30pm. We showed up at 6 and were told to come back 30 minutes later. Then they decided to start "early" at 6:20, so anyone that did heed the 6:30 start time missed the beginning of the presentation. Finally, I was particularly annoyed that despite the website saying "of course, recipes will be provided," we were given only two of seven recipes... one for one of the previous night's hors dourves and another fora meat dish. I tried taking copious notes but theexplanationsthat were given during the presentation were notspecificso I have failed at recreating the dishes. I really liked the cook Tutti - she was wonderful and I loved her food - but had I known Iwouldn'tget five of the recipes I probably wouldn't have paid the $200 for my husband and I to attend the cooking class. I don't think it's unreasonable to leave for the weekend during a lull period, but most places will close down completely or at least have their getaway when there aren't many people visiting. It seemsinappropriate to host a cooking weekend with a full house of people and then leave for a wedding. I emailed the owners with my feedback to give them a chance to apologize / explain themselves and my email went unanswered. Proper customer service would have them apologize ("we're sorry... it's not usually like this... / we're sorry you don't like our style") and possibly offer a discount for the annoyed guests to return. Not this place. We wouldn't have returned BUT would have appreciated the gesture and probably would not have posted this review. Again, not a horrible experience, but for the money you can get MUCH better service. We will not return. read more

We stayed at this B&B for my birthday. I love antiques and historic buildings. The buildings were really nice and retained their historical accuracy. They also have antiques throughout. The furnishings were clean, well-kept and comfortable. Breakfast was very delicious and varied: fresh fruit; pancakes; coffee and teas; fresh squeezed orange juice; and; a very tasty hash. My *now* husband and I were looking for a perfect location for our wedding. We had a few things we wanted in mind. We wanted a "semi-destination" where we and our close family and friends could get away from the crazy Northern Virginia lifestyle, we wanted our wedding to feel like a family reunion, we wanted something cute and scenic, and something that reminded me of being at my grandfather's house as a child. We drove up the long gravel driveway, under the canopy of trees, and at the end of the drive we saw the beautiful historic main house. We knew we found something special. We walked the grounds, saw all the adorable rooms, the grand reception hall with huge crystal chandeliers, the more intimate wood beamed cocktail room, the open patio with the amazing view, the pool and hot tub, and finally the ceremony site. A large open site with a huge tree front and center. I turned to my then-fiance and told him, I think this is it. Once we sat down and started talking dates and costs, they informed us of "Dan's Deals". My fiance and I were going to be paying for our entire wedding ourselves, so budget was a huge factor. They offered us a great deal if we booked a date that was 3 months away. My fiance and I love a good challenge, so after getting the parents' approval we decided to go for it. The venue and everyone working at the venue was MORE than perfect. Everyone was super responsive, available to answer questions at nearly any time in the day, sweet, smiling and just seemed to love their job! The venue itself was beautiful, clean, amazing. I felt like I was living in a fairy tale the entire weekend. We would walk around at night surrounded by fireflies, little bunnies, frogs, and even a little groundhog poked his head out to see what was going on. It was better than anything I ever imagined. The sheets were so soft and comfortable, and they even found a pair of sunglasses someone had left behind and mailed them to me! Best weekend of my life. read more

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Briar Patch Bed and Breakfast for our anniversary and had a perfect romantic getaway. We left right after work and it was amazing to see a quick transition from the busy Northern Virginia area to the quaint and picturesque town of Middleburg. Who knew this place was only 30 minutes from home. The drive in was beautiful - we were surrounded by mountains, farm houses, and open fields. When we arrived, we received a warm welcome from the manager, Ali. She gave us a tour of the Inn, which we learned was built in the 1800s. We also saw the rest of the property - the Fox Den (where they have weddings) and the outdoor pool and hot tub area. Ali made us feel right at home. The kitchen had "help yourself" homemade coffee cake, drinks in the refrigerator, and a Flavia machine with all kinds of coffee options. Our room was beautiful. With china and pottery on the shelves for decoration, the owner stays true to the antique beauty of the estate. That said, the fireplace was very modern and kept the room cozy for us all night. The bed was very comfortable as well. For dinner, Ali both suggested a restaurant and made reservations for us. We went to the French Hound, which turned out to be perfect for our special occasion. The atmosphere was warm and cozy and the food was delicious. The Briar Patch provided fantastic hospitality. That, and the town of Middleburg in general make for a perfect local escape from DC. We may even consider having our wedding there when the time comes. read more

Not happy AT ALL! I went there based on the previous reviews and the pictures. What I stumbled upon was an, initially, more rustic B&B than desired and then, upon further inspection, a place that left LOTS to be desired. The walls looked like they had been patched together, the fireplaces are for show and DO NOT emit heat (except for 2), the shower tiled was painted where the tiles should have been replaced, and the morning breakfast was just ok at best. Lastly, while I would have appreciated a slightly more secure environment (the doors are left unlocked!), the staff seemed very nice. read more

Had a wonderful stay here a few weekends ago! Great views, wonderful / helpful staff and owners!!! The breakfast was really good each morning (should have had bacon). The room was very clean / bed was plush. Bathrooms were very clean! Even had Q-tips (bonus!) Bring your swimsuit! The hot tub is worth spending a few nights in under the stars. Not too far from a number of wineries! Great food nearby! Would highly rec to anyone (who is looking for a get away)!!! Our second stay at Briar Patch was just as enjoyable as the first! This time we stayed in their two bedroom suite. My MIL and one of her friends came along. Nobody had any complaints. The staff was still sweet and helful. The grounds were gorgeous. The breakfasts delicious. We used a voucher that also included a bottle of wine and box of chocolates. We drank the wine, but returned the chocolates, twice. They were moldy :(. Apparently they are stored in the attic? Not that we cared much, it was quite a minor issue. We stayed here for my wife's birthday and had such a good time. Their team really took care of us. Breakfasts were fantastic, they were always available for any concerns or questions we had, and they happily accommodated us with a red velvet cake and a bottle of wine as part of their birthday package. The stay was amazing! The room we had - Chick Suite was perfect for our family. There was a large fold out couch that was comfortable and spacious. And extra cot was provided for our daughter and the bathroom was so luxurious. The staff was so very warm and welcoming and catered to our every need. There was a full kitchen we were able to use that made taking the kids much easier. The pool was warm, private and perfect to relax in the sun. My daughter loved it and the water was soft and the pool chairs relaxing. The hot tub was perfect for late nights enjoying the late night sounds and relax after a day of sightseeing in Middleburg visiting wineries and Mt Defiance distillery. They are usually busy every weekend for weddings and I can see why. The setting makes me wish I knew of this place when we were getting married. Such a lovely place to hold an event. I was so fortunate to be able to stay there this week. read more

Wonderful old home (old portion built 1805) on the rural section of Route 50 just beyond Aldie and about three miles short of Middleburg. We spent an evening there midweek in December, when Middleburg is dressed up for Christmas, and looks for all the world like something out of a Currier and Ives lithograph. The accommodations were clean and comfortable, and befitting an historic property. The breakfast was quite good, and there were plenty of drinks and snacks and pastries available 24/7. Met some very nice couples who were staying there, and the conversation was pleasant. The place is also spacious enough that you don't have to stay in your room to find quiet, private spaces. They are very dog friendly, and our field spaniel loved the place. It's barely an hour out of DC, and a fine change of pace from city life. read more

When my husband and I set out to plan our wedding, we knew that we didn't want the conventional wedding weekend. Instead, we wanted to put our own spin on things by keeping everything simple and relaxed in a beautiful outdoorsy setting with lots of family time. Briar Patch was the PERFECT solution to accomplish this goal! Instead of one long marathon wedding day, we split things up by holding an intimate family ceremony on Friday night instead of a rehearsal and dinner, followed by a big party on Saturday where we invited additional friends to join us! This was made possible because we had exclusive use of the property from Friday afternoon to lunch on Sunday. We had the freedom, flexibility, and tools to take things slow, enjoy the location, be together with friends and family, and do things our way. The Briar Patch staff went out of their way to support this non-traditional format, and was a huge resource and supporter every step of the way. Leading up to our wedding, they answered each question in record time, provided vendor suggestions (we loved Helga's!!!), and chipped in tips and resources whenever possible. The weekend of the event they welcomed us with open arms, remained on site to provide support, and hosted my family for a delicious breakfast each morning. The Briar Patch B&B and Fox Den were the ideal setting to give us the fun, low-key, intimate, and BEAUTIFUL wedding we wanted, and Dan and Co. went above and beyond to make everything possible. We are so grateful that you were a part of our big day, and know that as a couple, we will be celebrating anniversaries and milestones with you for years to come! My family & I had a great time at this lovely & charming B & B. We loved the Cottage & thought it was very well put together. Most importantly, it was very clean! Also, the bed was very comfortable & the sheets were silky soft. As for the breakfast, it was very good & we'll prepared, though I would have liked a little more meat. ..or any meat at all would be good. The property is really beautiful & close to many wineries/ distilleries. Even though it had some nice amenities, like the pool & hot tub, it needs some detailed maintenance, ie, trees growing out of gutters. Speaking of maintenance, they need to get a licensed plumber to do some repairs, like the shower hot & cold is reversed, the pedistal sink handles are reversed & the toilet barely flushes. Being a licensed plumber myself, you will pay less if you have it fixed right the first time, instead of using a handyman do it over & over. The only reason I didn't give a 5* is because the window air conditioners are loud & gross. It's time to change them out for a Heat Pump Mini Split system. They are very quiet, modern looking, reliable, will open up your windows & will save you a ton of $ on your electric bill. Plus, they will actually cool off the rooms. All in all, we had a great time. We too felt the atmosphere was lacking a personal touch. The owner is not around & the employees are just going through the motions. For instance, when we went down to breakfast this morning after 9am, there was no one & no food. We called the number on the board & the girl said she was in traffic & would be there in a few minutes. I would think she would get there like an hour early to prepare the food. We came back a half hour later & she over cooked the eggs & burned the crosaunts. She might want to take the cooking class too. Still worth going to stay at this charming B & B in this beautiful part of the country. read more

The place is utterly magnificent, the house is amazing, the property so beautiful, calming and highly maintained. I stayed in the second floor beautiful Rose room, very spacious and charming, very comfortable bed. The bathroom was like a dream, the towels thick and velvety. Everything was so classy! All the photos you see on the website do not do it justice - the reality is much, much better. The common room is stocked with all kinds of coffee, selection of tea, cookies, fresh complementary drinks and snacks in the fridge. Breakfast is freshly made, very good and varied, served elegantly with a warm welcoming smile. Aldie village where it is located is such a nice home welcoming people! Really Briar Patch Inn is a place I would definitely choose as a luxurious weekend gate-away. There is no TV in the room, some may find it lacking. Also, I found only one place near the floor to hook up my phone charges. Again, it may not be comfortable for some, but I did not mind these at all. I came as I came (unfortunately for me) for one night only. The only real downside for me was that I was utterly totally alone the whole night. Solo. In an unlocked house. No one was there but me (locked in my room at night, of course). I know I could always phone the manager, who left a warm letter for me with full permission and encouragement to call any time if needed (a bit difficult for a tourist with no local US number). But I would never call to ask how to boil water for tea. And I do not want to think what would have happened in case of a real emergency. Also, and again, it is only me who comes from a country with very low energy reserves, it was a bit disturbing that all the air-conditionings, the ventilators, the lightning in the whole house and rooms - everything was on full force the whole night (not even on low power) until the staff arrived in the morning. That means at least 15 hours. A total waste of energy as they could easily be left on low power. read more

We stayed a BP B&B in November and had the most wonderful weekend. It's just close enough to Middleburg for many trips back and forth throughout the day (we nap a lot), but far enough away that the grounds were quiet. We were lucky enough to have stayed in the Hibiscus and Violet Room suite, which was fortunate as we could leave our little dog in the Violet Room while we were out. However, I would have to respectfully disagree with the review below, as we watched movies via Netflix using the WiFi provided just fine and the breakfast was fantastic. We'll be visiting again next year :) read more

Disappointing! I used a Groupon for a 2-nt stay and was very disappointed. The staff was very pleasant but everything else left a lot to be desired. Pros: -staff -wine country -sleepy town (most things closed at 6pm except for 2 restaurants and the area resort) Cons: -the house was run down not rustic (the ceiling looked like plaster patchwork) -my bed linens had blonde strands of hair, mine is jet black -the house dog stayed in the kitchen during the preparation of all meals (not sanitary) as a result, I ate the packaged food items (ie. oatmeal packets and lots of tea) -unsafe premises, as the door was left unlock 24/7 to allow unrestricted access to the guests (and everyone else) The pictures online are not a good representation of the condition of the home. A little TLC could restore this property to it's glory, but it have a ways to go. read more

1.5 stars The only saving grace was that the lady that checked us in (Jennifer I think was her name) was super nice and gave us a nice tour of the place. Other than that, the pool and hot tub were a nice touch. But where do I begin with the issues my wife and I had with this place! 1) My wife won/bought a voucher for a night's stay at a silent auction. There was no fine print on the silent auction and it wasn't until after we won the voucher did we realize that we could only use it on a Sunday-Thursday night only. We eventually booked a Thursday night, 7/2/09 since neither of us had to work on Friday, 7/3. So, this ended up not being too big a deal nor were we required to take a day off of work. But still, it would have been nice to see the fine print before we paid for the voucher. 2) As we approached the place, my wife was very turned off that it is right on the main road (i.e. Rt. 50). This is a rural section of Rt. 50, so it didn't bother me too much, but my wife was turned off at the place immediately. 3) With our voucher, we could only stay in one of the "old" rooms. I'm not sure how nice the "new" rooms are, but our room was awful. It was super damp/moist in the room. There was a dehumidifier in the corner that was not on. It should 100% have been turned on and then some! We ended up going out to dinner in the area and when we came back we decided to leave! Home was only 45 minutes away, so we just took off. Perhaps the "new" rooms are worth your money and time, but stay away from the "old" rooms! read more

We decided to stay at Briar Patch after I won a gift certificate for a one-night stay Sunday-Thursday. My husband and I chose to visit on a Sunday night. After a long hike in Sky Meadows Park, it was nice to come back and relax at the inn. There were no other guests (probably because it was a Sunday night). The staff was super friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was great. Overall, I think it's a perfect place to stay given that you're already going out to that area to hike, visit wineries, etc. read more

The rooms are decorated in a way that is rustic without being kitschy and very comfortable. The bed I stayed in was huge! Cannot say enough good things about Briar Patch! The house itself is warm and welcoming, beautifully decorated with gorgeous antiques, the rooms lovely, bed comfortable, breakfast fabulous, staff generous and enthusiastic. The bonus of a hot tub was a real treat! Briar Patch is close to "civilization" at only 12 miles to South Riding, 15 to Leesburg or Chantilly, but the real action is in the town of Middleburg and the surrounding small towns. Booked an anniversary get-a-way with my husband of 16 years. Stayed in the Hen Room which was nicely appointed with a large comfortable king sized bed. Snacks upon our arrival with a glass of wine, held us over till dinner. It was so relaxing sitting out on the porch over looking the property. Loved the plush robes and towels. Bathroom was modern with full length mirror and a vanity mirror, Qtips, and small cups to rinse with after brushing. They even had a night light in the bathroom. They simply thought of everything. Breakfast was a full array of French toast, cinnamon rolls, fresh fruit, yogurt, muffins, scrambled eggs, coffee, tea, and juice. Lovely way to start the day in a large dining room with other guests. Our stay felt like home away from home with all the amenities and a very nice and caring staff. Highly recommend this lovely and quaint B&B. We'll be back for certain! R.S. read more

We held our wedding at the Briar Patch last August, and all of our wedding party stayed there on the wedding night. The Briar Patch provided an absolutely beautiful location for my wedding ceremony and reception. Our guests couldn't stop talking about how lovely and welcoming the atmosphere was there. In the days and months leading up to the wedding, the staff was extremely helpful with anything that I asked, and they always responded to my emails or phone calls promptly. This place is everything a b&b should be. All the rooms have beautiful furniture, the breakfast is homemade and delicious, the yard has lots of great places to sit and talk, there's a pool, and the view from any point of the grounds is beautiful. There are tons of wineries within a few minutes' drive, and many more further than that. I greatly enjoyed my stay! The staff makes you feel right at home. I definitely recommend staying here. I will note that I stayed on a weekday; I cannot speak to the weekend experience if they're hosting a wedding. read more

Amazingly polite and helpful staff. Excellent breakfast every morning at 9am but even if you aren't up til 10 they'll still make breakfast for you! Whole kitchen, fridge, pantries of food to serve yourself and cook if you want. Great resturaunts in nearby towns as well. Iris room was spotlessly clean with a very comfy bed, fire place, so cozy. The grounds are beautiful with retired race horses to feed, benches and swings to read and enjoy the weather, great views of the countryside, Jacuzzi and Pool are relaxing additions. If you want to mingle with other guests you certainly can but if you want to be secluded you will have no problem relaxing alone or with loved one! I wish I never had to leave! read more

I cannot more highly recommend the Briar Patch! I had my wedding there, it was beautiful! My family, groom's family and bridesmaids all stayed at the inn. The Briar Patch was a perfect location for our wedding (close to DC for local guests and close to the airport for those coming from far away); it is surrounded by lovely farms and vineyards and just a few minutes drive to downtown Middleburg. The staff at the Briar Patch were wonderful to work with, they were helpful and communicated well with my family throughout the wedding planning. The inn is kept clean and the staff is very hospitable. The breakfast on the morning of my wedding was wonderful, the had fresh fruit, quiche, tator tot casserole (amazing!), coffee etc! It was such a blessing to get to stay at the Briar Patch and to have my wedding there; I wouldn't choose anywhere else to be. The property is beautiful as are the rooms in the inn. read more

This was our first B&B experience and we really enjoyed it! It was just what we needed- a little vacation and to unplug from the world for a couple of days! The hospitality was charming, and homemade breakfast food was amazing. Although there were 14 other people there at the time, we felt as if our privacy was not compromised.
