    Japanese Hambagu Steak Bowl
    Mark M.

Brick Box Brewery: Tucson's Taproom Treasure with Heart, Hops, and Hearty Bowls If you find yourself meandering through downtown Tucson with a thirst for something bold and a belly begging for comfort food, Brick Box Brewery is your oasis. Once known as Thunder Canyon Brewery, this reimagined taproom hasn't just kept the soul--it's infused it with fresh energy, local flavor, and a whole lot of love in every pour. Food That Hugs Your Soul Let's talk about the Katsu House Katsudon Bowl--crispy pork cutlet nestled in a sweet-savory umami broth, tangled with caramelized onions and silky scrambled egg. It's a flavor bomb that feels like a warm hug from a Japanese grandma who knows how to party. Then there's the Japanese Hambagu Steak Bowl--a juicy, pan-seared patty with rich demi-glace vibes that pairs like a dream with Brick Box's malty Amber or the clean finish of their Lager. These bowls aren't just meals--they're mood-lifters. Beer That Speaks Tucson The tap list is a love letter to local brewing: old-school Thunder Canyon classics meet new Brick Box originals. Whether you're sipping the Mosaic-hopped Pale Ale or diving into the Belma-forward IPA, each brew has personality--and a story. Service That Feels Like Home From the moment you walk in, it's Cheers meets desert cool. The bartenders are fast, friendly, and genuinely excited to chat about hops, food pairings, or even challenge you to a chess match. Whether you're flying solo or rolling deep, the vibe is inclusive, laid-back, and full of heart. --- Final Verdict: Brick Box Brewery isn't just a place to grab a pint--it's a place to feel seen, fed, and celebrated. Come for the beer, stay for the bowls, and leave with a smile (and maybe a new favorite bartender).

    My Huckleberry wheat

I stopped by on a Thursday around 8pm. It was Open Mic night and the place was dimly-lit and crowded. I arrived to hear the beautiful voice of Terra, who was finishing her set. Three more singers tried their luck before I left. But I didn't come to listen to music. I came to try this place out now that it has been sold to a former partner of the Thunder Canyon Brewery (TCB) owners. Most of the beers on tap are from the TCB recipes, including the Huckleberry Wheat beer (IBU 10; ABV 5%; $6) I had tonight. The beer had a nice tang to it. I will have to come back when there isn't a special event like Open Mic Night, which, I learned today, is always the first Thursday of the month. I want to be able to hear myself talk and look at the true color of the beer I am enjoying. The dining area looks smaller than when this was the TCB. The focus now seems to be on the bar and not so much the restaurant.

This was a collaborative event, #Soulfoodsunday by Cookin Wit Cort, Blax Friday and Brick Box! Mariam at the bar was dope. She was kind and attentive, pretty busy the entire time, until she clocked out lol. I had the lemonade w/ Natural Meyer Lemons and house made cane sugar and it was delicious! However, they ran out but there menu looked really good. Cort had the food on lock, fried chicken wings, mac & cheese, yams and greens! There were live, local Tucson artist featured, a lil spoken word and rap. It's actually a pretty big space, I actually won the pajama contest!

This was my first time in, so I asked for recommendations. My bartender was super helpful. The house Amber was a great start while I awaited my Katsu House order. The spirit tea was light, tea-forward and refreshing, going wonderfully with my spicy Katsu take on a hotdog with furikake waffle fries. Delish and the atmosphere was chill on a Friday afternoon, but I could tell as the music was setting up and people were drifting in that the energy was about to go up!

Owner made me the Best Old Fashioned I've ever had, you've got to put this one on the menu!

Come here for the wagyu smash burgers! The house-made pickles & Kaiju sauce take it to the next level & their fries are great.

I came here with my husband and son on a Friday night. Not too busy and they don't serve food but have a rotating food truck out in their parking lot. You'll see the sign for the taproom from the road and turn in. Continue all the way down past the shipping docks and you'll see the sign once you make a left. Decent amount of parking available. They sell more beers than what you see of theirs in the stores. They also have rotating guest beers. Pours are offered in 4oz and 10oz, which is nice if you don't want to drink too much or are trying to pace yourself/taste different beers. They also sell various merchandise, likes hats, shirts, etc. One thing I'm starting to add in my reviews is if there is a changing table now that I have a baby. They have a changing table in the large stall in the women's bathroom; not sure about men's bathroom and they do not have a family restroom.

I asked the beertender if I could sample a couple of their wheat beers, and they were more than happy to help. I ended up going with their American Wheat (super refreshing, crisp, and easy to drink). My friend opted for the Pilsner, which was just as solid and well-balanced. The only downside is that they don't serve the beer in proper glassware (everything comes in plastic cups), which takes away a bit from the overall experience. That said, the atmosphere is great, the staff is friendly, and the beer is delicious. Definitely a spot worth checking out
