Beers cold and so are the waitresses. I've tried to go for wing night and had wings fly out of the containers because they have been thrown at the table so hard. Whenever I'm there I feel like I am a burden asking the waitress for another round of drinks or wings. Been in there on other nights than wing night thinking maybe it was just busy and they were flustered, I was wrong. I asked to move tables because I wanted to be able to see the Cubs game, and I watched the waitress throw a fit to another waitress. I never rate anything but this was really great! I've never gone to a food truck due to low expectations but I was in a pinch today. Quick service, kind staff, and good food! Bar quality food for a decent price. Frequent specials make this place a regular visit for me. The chicken sandwich is great if its cooked correctly. Unfortunetly the food isnt consistant in quality (sometimes over/undercooked) and most of the time it is swimming in grease to the point where bottom buns are soggy. The good news is that they are fixing things slowly. They updated the fries from a curly frozen cook to a homemade style. Good choice! Now I hope they fix the grease! read more

We wanted to eat here for an early Mothers Day...so we drove an hour on Saturday...I had called ahead around noon to check on hours of operation and they told me...and also said that there should be no wait when I told her what time we would most likely be there (3pm)...so we got there at 3:05 pm...only to find a note on the door that says we will be closed today from 2-5...sorry for the inconvenience....the doors were open and people were inside eating/coming out so I stepped inside...a girl rudely told me they weren't seating anyone until 5pm. I left, called the place and asked to speak to a manager/owner...still waiting for the owner to call...the manager said that they had to close because they had run out of food!! The owner was out buying food...If they didn't close between 2-5 they wouldn't have any food for the evening!! How can you run a business like that? And STILL waiting for a call from the owner!! Our first time visit, and we didn't get the chance to sit down, let alone eat anything. Our party of eight was clearly too big for the size of the restaurant as there was only one location where we could have been seated...and it was occupied with two parties still waiting for their food. When we arrived, we were told it would be a 30-minute wait, but then 10 minutes later, we were told it would be another 45 minutes or more. So, we left. While we didn't get a chance to eat anything, we left with a bad taste in our mouth. read more

Brick City Grill has a wonderful staff who are always happy to see you. This place can get packed fast, so you had better show up early. The food and service is always reliable! I have yet to have a bad meal here. The kitchen closes at 10pm, so no last-minute-after-the-game munchies. read more

Good burgers and sandwiches. A little overpriced for the fancier burgers but they taste good. The things I've had that were disappointing were the fried pickles and chicken strips. I normally come for the amazing mango habanero sauce, it's the best and having real restaurant ranch is a plus too. The Moscow mules are really good also. read more

Best burger in the state? HA!! Not even close, worst service defiantly. The server did not check if the food was ok, never came back to refill drinks or ask if we need more beers. My husband and I ordered food from Brick City for the first time tonight. He got the pretzel burger and I got the Cuban burger. Amazing. So juicy, tender, and flavorful without being overly salty. And huge to boot! This is definitely our new favorite burger place. And we ordered through My Town 2 Go. Estimated delivery was 1 hour and they had it here in 30mins! On a Friday night! I didn't like Brewers and I don't like this place. They've kept the same decor so it still has that hideous deep blue paint and black tables. It looks a lot like an 80s ad for Drakkar Noir. The lights are up super high, though, so it isn't as if the dark wood adds to the atmosphere. We started with the fried pickles because I have a love for all things deep fried. They were cooked very poorly -- the oil in the fryer was obviously too hot because they were overcooked on the outside but still gooey and cold on the inside. That should have been a sign. I ordered the "black and blue" salad which purports to be steak on mixed greens. It was the chopped up mystery meat from a Philly Steak sandwich on iceberg lettuce with no blue cheese, just bottled sugary commercial blue cheese dressing. 9 bucks for that? And you couldn't even open a clamshell of baby greens from Fareway? If it is just shaved, frozen "meat" say that on the menu, don't call it steak. Then I will have only myself to blame for ordering it. My dining companion ordered the pretzel burger. It tasted great but it was so greasy that the bottom of the bun was soaked through and it grease was dripping on the plate. He got the sweet potato fries for $1 extra and all seven of them tasted good though they were clearly cooked in the same too hot oil. They weren't bad, though, so if they had come in any sort of reasonable size we probably would have considered them a success. The server was really nice but she was clueless. When I ordered the steak "rare" that was a pretty good indication I didn't know what I was getting. We need more good restaurants in Ames but this just is not it. If you want bar food like this go to Dublin Bay or Charlie Yokes. But if you want a tasty burger you are way better off at the Cafe or Aunt Maude's. They cost the same but they are so far superior it is like another planet. And no other place in town would try to sell whatever that stuff is as "steak." read more

We come here for lunch and after ball games. It' nice to have a local place to meet, have a drink, something to eat and not too expensive. We enjoy being able to have a conversation without yelling at each other and the staff is attentive. The food has been good every time we have eaten there. read more

I will never go to Brick City ever again. Went to eat lunch there got there at 11:40am got seated right away out on the patio, got our drink orders taken. Ordered our food for just the 2 of us. It took them an hour and 10 mins to get our food, 2 tables that sat down after us and ordered after us got their meals before us. No waitress even came to our table and said hey our kitchen staff is understaffed and your ticket time got messed up. I tried talking to the waitress I got ignored so I had to go insides to talk to someone. Then our food finally came out then I was out of a drink. Took 15 mins to get something to drink. If you are going to have one waitress wait on table on a 4 table patio and that waitress help all the other tables and ignore ours that's just rude. read more

The only reason I am giving it 2 stars is because our waitress was very good. We ordered cheese ball appetizer and they took about 15 minutes to come out. They were ok. I think their ranch is homemade because it was basically milk and ranch seasoning. Then we ordered " Iowa's Best Burger". My mother got the classic and I got the jalapeño burger. Our sides were a house salad and Cesar. First, it took almost an hour to get our food. The salad was warm. The house salad was wilted iceberg lettuce with a great balsamic vinegrette. My Cesar was a weird, almost velvety textured leaf mix. It wasn't kale or baby spinach and I didn't care to ask. The dressing was a homemade one that was too think and milky tasting. I didn't like it. Now for the burger. All I can say is that the meat is of better quality. The bun is a butter bun. That is all you can taste is butter. I like butter and it was still disgusting. My jalapeños were piled all in the middle of the burger and not spread out. I had to perform surgery on my burger to make it edible. Terrible burger. The kitchen is not equipped for that kind of service. It was originally a great bar with only fried food. They decided somewhere down the line to add more tables and ruin the integrity of the place. The waitress was excellent! However, anyone who thinks this is the best burger, has not had a great burger. The wait was too long for the lunch hour. Salad leaves a fair amount to be desired. Booth was dirty and the bathroom is in pretty tough shape. Sorry to be negative but I was just really disappointed. read more
