This was a really nice restaurant we drove past and I would have never known it was there. It is located inside of a hotel. Walking in the ambience was gorgeous. Very modern with decor and I love that. Staff were all very friendly and every was happy to assist and kept a smile on their face. The food was pretty good. I ordered the pasta and added chicken, I tasted the pasta with shrimp and that tasted even better! I did not like the garlic bread, it didn't taste like anything and had no seasoning. However I will definitely be back when I visit Charleston. read more

It was a gloomy day. The wind was blowing endlessly through the southern plains. Barren monotonous endless flat land with scattered isolated homes. This restaurant was attached to the hotel I was staying. The restaurant was not busy. It was clean and well decorated. I was seated fast . The menu was relatively big comparing the size of the city and the restaurant. I started with a beef stew soup. It was cooked with perfect flavor and spices , one of the best I ever had. The fried calamari was average. The cod was done right. I really had a great meal. They had special every night. The special items like all you can eat pasta. Comparing the size of the city, it is a great place to have a decent meal. The price is right. No waiting time. Fast service. Glad to have a great meal here. read more

Went on a double date with some neighbor friends. I ordered the ribeye and asked for medium rare. The cook on the steak came out to be more of a medium. Nice sear, but not much seasoning to the steak. Star of the dish was the mashed potatoes, creamy but smooth. For the sautéed veggies, would have preferred something like broccolini instead of zucchini and onions. My neighbor friend ordered the porkloin and the cook was kinda dry, but the habanero sauce that came with it was tasty. Brussel sprouts were sautéed, but broiling them would have been better. For the price of the items, was expecting a little bit better execution. Would give overall 3.5 stars. read more

Our food was terrific. The service staff was very friendly and accommodating. So, why not five stars? I called a week ahead to ask whether I'd be able to watch a sporting event, and they enthusiastically said yes. When my group got there, the manager said we couldn't watch it with SOUND. My party was the only group of people there. Even after pleading my case to the manager, she was still a no-go. Ordinarily I like this place, but I don't think I'll be coming back due to this negative experience. Furthermore, I won't recommend it to others. Salad was like eating dry lettuce with absolutely no dressing, very disappointed, tomato bisque soup tasted like a jar of marina sauce. The cherry on the cake was when the waitress didn't clear any of previous empty martini glasses then when she brought our check she grabbed all of them at once including the one I was still drinking. I left this as a draft. Went here 6 months ago with my husband. I read the reviews before going and it seemed like a good choice at the time. So we decided to try this place. Our server seemed to be new and was unable to answer questions about the menu. Ordered the crab "bites". That is the wrong word for them because they are more like crabcakes smothered in a seafood gravy of disgustingness. Three arrived on a plate covered in sauce. We ordered a Roadhouse Burger and upgraded the side to fries. The burger looks alright but this is a pitiful "side". We also ordered a half pound of chicken bites in Brickhouse BBQ sauce...apparently there's a shortage on sauce and fries tonight. We've had consistent issues with our last several orders and won't bother with this place again. Two stars because the staff member who took my payment was very kind :). ETA: After eating it is clear this is not beer cheese on the burger. Perhaps melted nacho cheese, but certainly not as listed on the menu. Our hosts who live in Charleston treated us to dinner here before a concert at EIU, which Brick House sponsored. Our first impression was a very good one due to the many delicious-sounding menu items. We had a hard time choosing! And we were not disappointed when our food came. Three of the four of us ordered the house vegetable soup which was like a peppery Tuscan tomato soup. Delicious! I ordered the Cilantro Mahi sandwich. It was perfect. A friend and I went for dinner on Saturday night. First time visit myself and 3rd time for friend. The restaurant was busy--full but still some open tables. We were seated promptly, and our server, Cherry, visited the table within the first couple of minutes. Cherry was very helpful in answering our questions about beers and wines served and was willing to spend the time and never made us feel rushed. Once we decided and ordered our drinks, they were served within just a few minutes. This same level of excellent service continued throughout our entire dining time. I had the Crab & Shrimp Pasta, an 8 on a 10 scale, and my dinner guest had the Fish & Chips. Both were good values for the money and each I can recommend. Walked in for my friend's 21st birthday with a group of 7. Sat for 20 minutes without anyone even working in the bar. Waited for another 30 to get our two pitchers of mimosas and watched the bartender pour half a bottle of champagne into a full pitcher of orange juice. We asked our waitress to pour a little more champagne and she said no. To add, there were lipstick stains on the glass and someone was smoking weed in the bar. $21 for orange juice. Great Meal! First the atmosphere is great. The dining room and bar are beautiful. We sat on the patio which is also beautiful. Drinks are priced well and wine prices are beyond reasonable. Our meal... fantastic! I had the ribeye (which was cooked perfect), I didn't miss a baked potato because the smashed potatoes were amazing. My husband had the shrimp dinner also perfection. Went with high expectations...left wanting better We had heard both good and bad about this place and with such limited options in Charleston We thought we would give them a shot. Service was VERY slow. Took almost 1 hour for a table of 2 to get food. My wife ordered a SALAD with grilled chicken (hard to screw up) I ordered the Fish and chips "special". Let me tell you...it wasn't special.The fish was soggy and the fries were still cold in the center. All it would have take was to fry them both at a lower temperature to cook inside then increase temperature to crisp the outside. The stuffed mushroom appetizer was meh. The waiter warned us that the plate was hot because it had been in the oven. It wasn't that hot and the cheese on top was barely warm. I also had the tomato bisque. Hard to describe it any other way than it had a greasy feel in my mouth. We tried this place before when it was a different name and had the most laughable experience and this time was not much better. I will go to Dirty's Bar and Grill (same owner) anytime before I go back to Brickhouse. read more

I keep trying the Brickhouse hoping they will eventually get things right. It never fails though. Not ONCE in the last six times I've been there have they delivered to me what their menu states I'm ordering. Not sure what's happening in the kitchen but the food is subpar at best. Something that any mediocre cook could whip up. Definitely not worth the prices they charge. Last night it was steak bites and Cesar side salad with pretzel bites/beer cheese as an appetizer. That was most definitely not beer cheese. I knew the moment I saw the pale yellow color, it would have no flavor. And it didn't. The steak bites were mostly fat--in fact I had one chicken nugget-sized hunk of fat that surely someone noticed while cooking. It was supposed to come with horseradish sauce but what I received was another flavorless concoction--zero bite to it. One bonus point, the majority of the actual meat was cooked to medium rare as I requested--compared to two previous visits when my other beef items were hunks of charcoal when I'd asked (and pleaded the second time) for medium rare. This is the only reason this review is getting two stars. Don't bother with the Brickhouse. Just skip over to Roc's and cross your fingers that they're open. read more

Mediocre food and service. The place appeared to be only moderately busy (we were able to find an open table on the patio almost immediately), but disorganized and poorly run. We ended up clearing the table ourselves (moving the dishes to a nearby table, which was still not fully cleared when we left), but were never able to get our table wiped down, even after we requested it. The service was friendly, but haphazard and inattentive. For example, even after we communicated a dairy allergy in the context of salad dressing, the server still didn't know when the entrees came whether that person's entree had butter. The salmon salad and sirloin with bourbon cream sauce were cooked properly, but otherwise flavorless. The salads consisted of some iceberg lettuce topped with grated cheese. The fire pit was pleasant. This is supposedly one of the nicer places in this university town. The people of Charleston deserve better. read more

Our family went to the Brick House for a birthday celebration and because we had a $60 gift card. There were 7 of us on a Thursday evening that wasn't too busy. Two meals (Greek salad and chicken tacos) were very good. The evening special, Seafood Alfredo, was the same price on the menu and was just ok at $19.99! The boneless chicken wings and children's chicken bites were barely edible as they were very much overdone. Prices were high, but the atmosphere is pleasant. As we left, our waiter ran after us accusing us of stiffing him of 35 cents. It was a mistake as 2 twenties of the $120 bill (everyone drank water!) were stuck together so he actually received a $20 tip. He was apologetic and there were no hard feelings. We understood. Really, in Charleston, you have no other choice for a nice meal in a pleasant atmosphere. Just be very careful how you order. I would stick to the basics. I have been to this restaurant 3 times and the third time was a charm. Waitstaff are in general confused and inexperienced. On my last visit, my friend had to ask for her beer twice. When I ordered a pasta dish without meat and add mushrooms she said yes of course. I added the risotto bites appetizer to the order. I ended up with an entree that had both meat and mushrooms with a side of risotto. They apologized and took everything back and brought the order I requested. The entree was not very good. When we got the bill they had charged me for the mushrooms I asked for to replace the chicken. I think I got a total of 4 slices in the entire dish. read more

I had the unfortunate opportunity to attempt eating at the Brick House on January 3, 2016. The service lacked any sense of attention, importance, or speed. My fellow guests and I waited over 45 minutes from the time we ordered our food to being served. My water was never refilled, and the server / bartender gave our table no attention to detail (for example, we only received napkins and utensils after asking for them). The most disconcerting moment, however, was the food. My mango and strawberry salad was hospital food quality. The mango was no where near ripe or edible, having the consistency of a marble and the flavor of a bowling pin. More tragic was the lettuce which was well past the"best buy" date on the bag from which it came. There were several pieces that were rotten, giving a most unappetizing aroma. I am always disappointed with the food. It has a nice atmosphere and nice service but the food is consistently bad. The crab cakes (Gogi cakes) were oily and flavorless and the lobster sauce tasted like plain mayo. I've had the Cobb and Chef salads which taste like they are made with Wal-mart deli meats. Nice atmosphere, classy looking and small, intimate restaurant. However, do NOT order the scallops. My scallops came out brown, dry, and severely overcooked. It was on top of very dry mushroom risotto that seemed to come from a package. My friend had the salmon which was good and my daughter had the chicken parmesan which was also good. read more

After waiting 5 minutes for someone to come take our drink order, I was getting irritated. After ten minutes went buy and we realized they charged $22 for chicken parm, I had realized this was not a good place to get a meal. The tables where uncomfortable (you could sit high up on a Lucite chair or a booth that left you three feet from the table), so we just walked out. I don't think they even noticed. read more

The portion size was quite generous, which is nice for a steak-based sandwich. The bun was soft as well. The fries were also great. Basically, this was a solid meal and the service was good as well.
