Very poor customer service. I ordered food from Uber Eats. They forgot to include rice (which is supposed to always come with your subzi). When I called the restaurant regarding the incomplete order, I spoke with an employee named Ajith. He was very unreceptive, and tried to offer credit for extra rice for the next time I came to the restaurant. When I asked how he was going to track that reliably, he had no answer. Do not EVER order delivery from this place. I placed an order online on Friday night at 7:30 pm. The order wait time said 45-60 minutes. Fine. After 60 minutes still no food arrived. Waited another 15 minutes and tried to call. Their phone rang and went to voicemail about 7 TIMES before someone answered and told me the food was on its way. Waited another 30 minutes. No food. Tried calling again and same situation. Phone rang many times and went to vm before someone answered. This time I couldn't understand but I think they said driver was in an accident and they were sending someone else out with our phone. I was very confused but fine. Waited another 30 minutes. Nothing. Called and yelled at the man that I would like to cancel my order and he said the food was on its way so we waited AGAIN and nothing. Finally called again and said PLEASE cancel my order. Over TWO HOURS of waiting. It was ten pm before we finally went out and got other food. If your establishment is having technical issues or your systems are crashing or if your driver is in an accident, have the common decency to CALL people who placed orders and let them know there's an issue. I would have gladly come to pick my food up. Literally the worst customer service I've ever received. I better get my refund because to top it all off this place is INSANELY OVERPRICED. $80!!!! i live next door to this restaurant. on my way to another restaurant, i noticed the tables outdoors were spaced 1 foot btwn each other!!!!! in contrast DENOVA, down the street has tables spaced 7 to 8 feet apart!!!! on my way home my boyfriend & i observed a party of 4 sitting & eating in the indoor area of the restaurant. this is UNACCEPTABLE & i reported it to the police. tomorrow i will email the board of health. read more

Had a remarkably good dinner there recently. WIll go back again. Terrific service -- attentive, friendly and informative. Sauces on our dishes were so good that we asked our waiter to pack what was left of the sauces (since we ate everything solid) for us. He joked that we could dip french fries in them, and we noted that the french fry experience would be greatly elevated by doing that. A deceptively simple-looking menu offers multiple choices -- including some choices I had never seem before: ginger naan for example. a tandoor-seared stuffed calamari, etc. Curries are many and varied. read more

I was not a big fan of Indian curry until I tried this. When it comes to curries, I am in between mild and medium spicy. In that case, I would recommend the Moilee, Jalfrezi, and Balti curries. Brick Lane in the East Village was one of my favorite low-key Indian restaurants when I lived in NYC, so I was excited to see one in Montclair. The chicken madras is delicious, and the lamb samosas are also very good. They include several sauces that my husband loves, papadum and a tiny rice pudding-like dessert - nice touches, especially given that it's a little pricey. The staff are always very sweet when picking up food; I just wish they would start delivering!! read more

My credit card information got stolen there!!!!! Back round I had not used my credit card for a few months paying off the balance. Met up with a friend whom I had not seen in a while and we went there for some food. I paid with my card, the only transaction on that card for months and a week later someone tried to use it at BJs #0022 near Philly Pa. I worked taxi and brought these men to Philly area before, I'm not Sherlock Holmes but that's where all this points. I was so excited to find out that there is a brick lane in Montclair. Amazing food and excellent service!

We used to love Brick Lane and drove out of our way to eat there. Although I read the recent negative reviews, I figured I would give them a chance- bad decision. No one answered the phone for takeout, so I ordered online. When I arrived to pick it up, I waited 5-10 minutes for someone to even greet me. I gave my name and no one returned. As I was there I observed many diners complaining that they were not getting service, many even walking to the back to find someone for service. Finally the waiter came back to ask what I ordered and told me it would be 5 minutes. I'm pretty sure my order was never even started. Finally, 25 minutes after that my order came out. While I was there 2 other people were waiting for their food, and another customer came in and said she had been given the wrong order. I am usually extremely understanding, but not one person apologized for the delay or horrible service. Unfortunately, we will not be returning. read more

I wanted to love them, as Montclair needs good Indian options, and I love the NYC outpost. But we've ordered twice, and they are batting zero for two. The first time, I ordered samosas, and very very mild paneer korma. The samosas were inedible--so spicy that they brought tears to my eyes and made me nauseous. Even my husband who has a huge tolerance for spicy food said they were overly spicy. The korma was great though. Tonight, we ordered again, and again I ordered mild paneer korma for me and my small son, as well as mild aloo gobi. Neither the paneer korma nor the aloo gobi were mild, though at least the korma was edible. Both were specifically requested very mild, and still the aloo gobi was painful. I called the restaurant, and the person who answered asked me "what do you want me to do about it" and either put me on hold and disconnected the call or hung up on me. I called again, someone picked up the phone and either put it down on the counter, or otherwise refused to answer. Finally, my husband called and got someone on the line, and after a very roundabout conversation was able to get a replacement aloo gobi (for an hour later--though I understand they're busy, so that was not great, but ok). I have never had an Indian place not be able to accommodate different levels of spiciness, especially with kormas and samosas (seriously, what Indian place has a SPICY samosa?), so it is extremely frustrating to me to have had these experiences. I would love to be able to give them more business, as my whole family is an enormous fan of indian food, and the brick lane NYC restaurant, but I am disappointed and sad to say that after our experience tonight and previously, I doubt they'll be getting a third shot. I dont understand the hype about this place, I really don't. We decided to try it, my wife and I but what a let down, both times, yes, take out and dine in. Their curries are just loaded with butter and cream, maybe that's for some but not for us. Also veggies were overcooked and they just ignored our mild request, I guess they just make everything extremely hot. I've passed this place 100 times thinking it was a sit down extension of the pizza joint next door. It's not. It should say "curry house" on the facade. Anyway, me and my girlfriend went and started with the cauliflower appetizer which tasted like crunchy chicken and was totally awesome. Then we each had a different curry with a different meat. The lamb was tender and tasty and the chicken was cooked perfectly. The curries were delicious. I won't tell which ones we got. We'll going back. read more

I've only tried about 7 or 8 other indian restaurants in the area but this one blows them all out of the water. The quality of the food is so apparent as soon as you take your first bite. The only issue is the price but I guess you get what you pay for, right? The jury is still out on that one but we'll see how this place does amongst the foodies of Montclair. My husband and I were excited to try Brick Lane Curry as we had both heard and read good things. We called in an order for pick up last night and I have to say we were horribly disappointed. We ordered veggie pakoras, tandoori shrimp, garlic naan, and chicken tikka masala. Aside from the shrimp the food was good, not great, but good. The tikka masala was quite chunky and the pakoras a bit greasy but honestly not bad. But the shrimp - these were by far the worst shrimp I have ever had in my life and I love tandoori shrimp. When I say overcooked, it was beyond anything I have experienced. I felt like I was eating shrimp jerky. They were tough, hard, and chewy, quite literally cooked to death. There were 6 of them and we had a hard time getting them down. If I was served this in a restaurant I would have sent it back immediately, and I can count on one hand the number of times in my life that I've sent back food. We paid $25 for this dish which consisted of 6 rock hard overcooked shrimp dropped in a pile of iceberg lettuce with some shredded carrots. It was disgusting. read more

After a long day at work my husband and I wanted to indulge in some tasty Indian take out. We read great reviews for this place, carefully looked through the menu and ordered. The food came relatively quickly but to our disappointment it was not very good. The lamb korma was too sweet. The chicken tikka masala was decent enough but minutes later my husband started vomiting and felt severe itching in the back of his throat. The sauce contains CASHEWS even though this is not stated anywhere on the menu or website. We proceeded to call back the restaurant to ask what nuts were included in the dishes and with a few minutes of pressure they hesitantly admitted there were tree nuts in BOTH MEALS. They proceeded to blame us for not notifying them of my husbands nut allergy even though it does not state the use of nuts anywhere on their website or menu! We filed an incident report with grub hub and got refunded but their lack of concern for patrons with nut allergies is alarming. Someone with a more severe allergy could have had a much worse outcome. Will never order from this place again. Watch out for nuts!!! read more

I was a fan of this place since day 1. Can still remember eating there the first week they opened. I was a huge fan for years but have grown weary. The chicken tikka masala usually has about 4 pieces of chicken. The least amount of chicken of any Indian place I have ever eaten at. And the appetizers are absurdly limited. And the food is very expensive for Indian food. I think it's lousy value for the money and I have been looking elsewhere. read more

We visited this place on Sept 1st for a special occasion. We live at a drive of 40 minutes and zeroed in on this place based on recommendations but unfortunately were not impressed to say the least. The place is a hole in the wall place with minimal place to sit. We were a party of four and our table was cramped up with the arrival of drinks and appetisers itself. The appetisers were absolutely overpriced and the taste was unworthy of the price. The sauce of their lasuni gobi tasted absolutely like ketchup and we had trouble finishing it off amongst four absolute foodies. Overpriced shrimp was not good and Keema samosa was sort of okay (in comparison with other dishes I would say, which is a very low par comparison). Now I understand their phaal curry is not supposed to be known for its taste, but we weren't expecting an absolute mix of chilly paste in plain water as well (that's how it felt like). Probably people don't finish it because of the taste and not because of the hotness. Chicken vindaloo tasted like chicken sautéed in tomato purée (trust my instincts I am a foodie and so were the rest three!). The rest of the gravies too were unappetising to swallow and we left most of the food in the restaurant as we bade our goodbyes with very unsatisfied and absolutely sad faces and lighter wallets. What a disappointment! I went here for lunch with a few friends and we all ordered from the lunch menu. The fact that you can match a choice of meat with a sauce was a bit odd (if you've ever cooked indian food) but we gave it a shot. The naan was decent. The sauces are very heavy (eat here if you are guaranteed a siesta right after). The vegetable of the day was an overly creamy peas and cauliflower dish, the chicken tikka masala was way too heavy on the tomato (tasted like canned soup) and cream. The dessert- kheer an indian rice pudding and boy was it pathetic! The chef should take a tour of India to see how far off his food is. My friend ordered the Goan shrimp curry and it was not anything you'd find in Goa (i agree with Do K). This place might hit the spot for those who think od Indian food as CURRY. It is loud and could use some decor. I'm amazed they received such great reviews.... For a the real thing, take a drive out to NYC or Mantra in Paramus. read more

My husband and I went here for the first time last night. We don't put Indian food on the rotation enough, and I was craving it (that's what being 9 months pregnant will do!) We heard good reviews for this place and checked it out. We were very happy with our food! The restaurant was empty when we first arrived, but did start to liven up with more customers. Service was excellent. Our server was attentive, made sure our water glasses were always filled and got our food out in a timely manner. We ordered the Pakoras (vegetable fritters) as an appetizer which was delicious. We ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala and Rosemary Naan for our meal. It was great! Everything was fresh and it really hit the spot. We even had some leftovers to take home and enjoy the next day. Overall, I definitely recommend this place if you're looking good Indian cuisine! read more

Last night was my first time to Brick Lane Curry and I was rather disappointed the ambience is beautiful and although it was a busy Saturday Night the waiters was friendly and attentive...The price is a little pricy for what we normally pay for Indian food, but I don't my paying if the quality of food is tasty and flavorful, I had the Lamb curry and I specified that my dish to be made medium spicy, my dish came out sweet and bland my son had the Tandoori Chicken that was also bland, after eating still trying to finish our wine the waiter asked if we can hurry up cause there was other people waiting to be seated to eat...after paying $75 for bland food then asking you to hurry with your wine is not very professional.... read more

It wasn't a bad experience it just wasn't great either. I'll start by saying we were the difficult table that included people with a gluten intolerance and vegans so we had plenty of questions. It seemed as though one of the servers knew the menu inside and out and the other wasn't entirely sure. I'd rather be patient while they ask rather than just say "I think you can eat this" which was what happened (admittedly he came back after we had ordered and told us it wasn't "safe"). After our food arrived there really was no follow up to see how everything was or if we needed anything. The food itself was really good and everyone walked away pleased but it was a bit pricey. $17 for the Aloo Gobi without meat seemed a bit much. I'm not saying I won't come back but I'm in no rush. read more

The waiter was really courteous and friendly but this was probably the worst Indian food I've ever had.
