Our server helped us choose the perfect bottle of wine from an extensive collection. The apples and rice appetizer was excellent..like arancini balls. My husband had the duck and liked it. I had the lumache which was just ok. The pasta was a little too al dente and the large clumsy shells didn't seem like the right shape for the delicate dish. It was supposed to come with shrimp, but surprise...nope! It came with lobster. I find lobster a bit sweet and thought shrimp would have worked better. This girl is usually in the clean plate club when it comes to pasta and seafood dishes but not tonight. I will say that the dessert alone was worth the one hour drive.. the smoked smores arrived with a bell jar of smoke which the server whisked off to reveal a delectable gooey to-die-for cake smothered in caramel and marshmallow. I ordered the buffet and it was pretty good overall. I thought the food could have been a little hotter. However, the servers were nice and were very attentive to refilling my Pepsi. I recommend this Buffett for large gatherings, or to enjoy a peaceful home cooked like meal. The restaurant is super clean and they also have a bakery and store where you can buy different things. Outside of the restaurant, there's a concert hall and another gift shop. There's also the Carlisle inn which is a hotel onsite. This is also a good weekend trip, plus you are not that far from the other parts of Amish Country such as Walnut Creek, Berlin, and Millersburg.

It's been at least a decade since I was last there and now I remember why. We should have just driven the extra 15 minutes to Walnut Creek.

Easily seating 100 at their sturdy vinyl picnic tables, the concrete was immaculately clean, the fence painted and well decorated. The owners obviously take pride in this business. The DJ (KJ for you purists) was comfortable in the 400 square foot covered stage. DC Sound was running the Karaoke with a really fine sounding Bose system, Pioneer Mixer and wireless mics. The flavor is definitely country. My bartender was very attentive. Less than two minutes after bellying up to the bar she had served my drinks. It wasn't a fluke. She kept that pace up all night even with 60 patrons or so in the beer garden. The singers here are surprisingly talented and put on a great show. Everyone seemed friendly and welcoming. Drink prices were excellent. Overall, two thumbs up for the whole karaoke bar experience.

We drove down from Cleveland to visit sites in Amish Country (Millersburg and Berlin). We had just finished touring the Yoder Amish Homes property (over an hour tour in the heat) and after the fun tour we all were hungry for lunch. Der Dutchman came up on a Yelp search so we decided to visit. FOOD (see attached pics) -- Typical home cooking. Served buffet style. Reminds me of Hometown Buffet in Columbus but that restaurant doesn't exist anymore. The menu is large so you will definitely find something that you like. I got fried chicken, shredded beef, mashed potatoes, string green beans, and a side salad. I also got a second plate of food which I think was just another piece of chicken because guests can enjoy "all you can eat"; although, I didn't get too much food neither did I fill my plate up in my original serving. Plenty of options to choose from, including protein (chicken, fish, beef), salads, carbs (rice, mashed potatoes), and dessert. SERVICE -- friendly and efficient. The lunch time was busy but our waiter greeted us, brought water and bread rolls to our table and checked on our table during lunch. It's been two years since I've been to Walnut Creek Der Dutchman…read more Wife and I had dinner there on June 1st. We asked for a window seat view and was easily granted that at 4pm. We chose to order off the menu instead of the buffet because we chose for better dinning. Salad and bread came to the table and was delish! As we enjoyed, we overheard the table behind us complain about lukewarm chicken. Kind of disappointing to overhear but we figured it came from the buffet. Our dinners took a while to come out so we assumed ours would be just fine. WRONG! I ordered three-piece dark meat, and it was lukewarm and very dry, like it sat under a heat lamp for some odd reason. My wife ordered three-piece white meat and found it extremely dried out and the skin was very dark almost burned like it stayed too long in the oven. I don't understand what is going on in the kitchen, but this is NOT the Der Dutchman that we've known in the past. It was always a pleasure to enjoy home cooked meals there. I'm very sorry to give such a bad review on a place we've loved to eat at but I believe knowledge is power and Der Dutchman should be looking at these two issues with summer travel upon them.
