Overall it was a joy to try Amish cooking (though I wonder how commercialized it is compared to homecooking). People come here for the buffet. But we ordered off the menu since we didn't want to stuff ourselves with food. We did order a variety of items - it all tasted good, but not a stand out. I liked that the food was fresh compared to the buffet (though they did refresh the buffet often). Some of the dishes were so fascinating like noodles over mashed potatoes. Fried chicken was okay. We were excited for the pies but it wasn't warm. Staff was super friendly! And they do take credit cards. There is a separate area for the bakery where you can order without a wait. During our trip through Ohio's Amish Country, we stopped by Yoder's Greenhouse in Apple Creek, and it was one of those places that instantly puts you in a good mood. The greenhouse is beautifully laid out with an incredible selection of flowers, hanging baskets, annuals, perennials, herbs, vegetables, shrubs, and so much more. Everywhere you look there's another burst of color, and it's obvious they take great pride in caring for their plants. Everything looked healthy, vibrant, and ready to thrive once you got it home. What I really appreciated was how peaceful the greenhouse felt. There was no pressure to hurry, so we were able to take our time walking through the aisles, admiring all the different varieties, and picking out our favorites. The staff was friendly and welcoming, answering questions without ever making us feel rushed. It's the kind of customer service you hope to find at a family-owned business. Whether you're looking to add some color to your flower beds, spruce up your porch with beautiful hanging baskets, or simply enjoy browsing one of the nicest greenhouses in Amish Country, Yoder's Greenhouse is absolutely worth the visit. We'll definitely be making another stop the next time we're in the area. I visited Der Dutchman restaurant for the first time in Walnut Creek, Ohio in late July 2025 with 3 guy friends and 2 female friends. We drove down from Cleveland to visit sites in Amish Country (Millersburg and Berlin). We had just finished touring the Yoder Amish Homes property (over an hour tour in the heat) and after the fun tour we all were hungry for lunch. Der Dutchman came up on a Yelp search so we decided to visit. FOOD (see attached pics) -- Typical home cooking. Served buffet style. Reminds me of Hometown Buffet in Columbus but that restaurant doesn't exist anymore. The menu is large so you will definitely find something that you like. I got fried chicken, shredded beef, mashed potatoes, string green beans, and a side salad. I also got a second plate of food which I think was just another piece of chicken because guests can enjoy "all you can eat"; although, I didn't get too much food neither did I fill my plate up in my original serving. Plenty of options to choose from, including protein (chicken, fish, beef), salads, carbs (rice, mashed potatoes), and dessert. SERVICE -- friendly and efficient. The lunch time was busy but our waiter greeted us, brought water and bread rolls to our table and checked on our table during lunch. We've been coming to Der Dutchman for a few years now, a couple times a year. It's a consistent place where you know what you're going to get and while it might not be Michelin starred, there's something to be said for that. The food is good quality, and my toddler especially enjoys the broasted chicken and noodles from the buffet. The view out of the panoramic windows on one side of the dining room are stunning throughout the seasons, including winter. The staff members are friendly and have been lovely to my girl-both as a newborn and now a one year old. We like coming here after a busy day around Amish Country, like Hershberger's and Sheiyah Market (which is less than 10 mins away!). Today the family decided to go, excitedly we went. When we showed up the line was out the door, which is normal. We sat down and ordered our food. We waited for the food, we order for 30 minutes. By the time for us who ordered our food, when we received it. The others that got to buffet was done eating. Where the buffet is always amazing but not this time, what ever they changed within the recipes it was awful. Our waitress barely served us we were waiting for refills and rolls for a while. I just had lunch here, Wednesday 4-08-26 around 11am, the server's name was I believe Betty. From a view standpoint this is one of the best, if not the best dining room view in the state. They let me have a window table on request. For $14.99 you can get their salad bar only, the dinner and lunch buffet is $19.99. From a value standpoint you can't beat that. A buffet can't get any better than this, they also have a menu that you can order off of. This review is for their Walnut Creek location, there is also a location right off of I-71. After a late start in my day, I finally made it to Amish country. I was hungry and not thinking clearly, but my waitress Brenda was so friendly and accommodating to my temporary special needs, she saved my day & trip! She went out of her way to run to the bakery next door to grab me a pastry and didn't blink an eye when I changed direction and ordered a meal anyway. It's been two years since I've been to Walnut Creek Der Dutchman. Wife and I had dinner there on June 1st. We asked for a window seat view and was easily granted that at 4pm. We chose to order off the menu instead of the buffet because we chose for better dinning. Salad and bread came to the table and was delish! As we enjoyed, we overheard the table behind us complain about lukewarm chicken. Kind of disappointing to overhear but we figured it came from the buffet. Our dinners took a while to come out so we assumed ours would be just fine. WRONG! I ordered three-piece dark meat, and it was lukewarm and very dry, like it sat under a heat lamp for some odd reason. My wife ordered three-piece white meat and found it extremely dried out and the skin was very dark almost burned like it stayed too long in the oven. I don't understand what is going on in the kitchen, but this is NOT the Der Dutchman that we've known in the past. It was always a pleasure to enjoy home cooked meals there. I'm very sorry to give such a bad review on a place we've loved to eat at but I believe knowledge is power and Der Dutchman should be looking at these two issues with summer travel upon them. read more

This place is located in the heart of an Amish town and is quite spacious. It's very well-maintained and can seat a large number of people, with even private party rooms available. The view is lovely, and the service was excellent. They offer a buffet, although I didn't get a chance to try it fully. The food I did have was quite good--cooked well and nicely seasoned. The sweet potato fries were particularly tasty, and the chicken noodle soup had a homemade flavor that was very satisfying. The homemade chicken pot pie was warm, hearty, and filling. Don't forget to visit the attached bakery, which offers a variety of freshly made treats , from donuts and cookies to cakes. Great buffet experience. My favorite of the Amish buffets in the area. The restaurant is quite large. Even if the parking lot is packed, it's usually a short wait for a table. Lines at the buffet can get long if they are super busy but move pretty quickly. Always get the buffet. Rolls are brought to the table. The table has butter, Apple butter, peanut butter and jam available for the buns. They are soft, usually a little warm and so good. The buffet includes a nice salad bar with the usual salad toppings. Also includes local faves like pickled beets and eggs, various salads like macaroni, potato, egg, ham, 3 bean and more. Couple jello type desserts on the salad bar. If ordering from the menu, can opt to add the salad bar side for a reasonable amount. The hot buffet always includes mashed potatoes and stuffing with different gravies. The corn is fabulous. Usually both a baked and fried chicken, roast, pork, fish and more. Don't skip the Amish noodles. This visit they had a peach cobbler and bread pudding. The server, Bev, was so sweet and attentive. Made for a great experience. Manager (or maybe the hostess?) also stopped by the table to check on me. Noticed them stop by several other tables. Nice to see they care about the customer experience. Finished with a visit to the bakery. Got a date pudding to have later that night as well as a fry pie. Was so full from the buffet, the date dessert became lunch the next day. Server was fine, not very personable but not mean or anything. The complimentary bread was great. I ordered the chicken pot pie and my girlfriend ordered the noodles over mash. I'll say the reason this review gets 3 stars is because the pot pie was killer; so good and exactly what I was looking for! The noodles over mash, however, was a huge disappointment. The mash was not great and tasted from a box, and the noodles had a bit of an artificial flavor as well. We ended up taking only a few bites before deciding it wasn't even good enough to eat. We asked the server if there was a way to get that part of the meal comped, or at least discounted, being that neither of us liked it nor ate it. They ended up giving us 40% off of that dish. It's something, but honestly I was expecting to get the dish completely comped (they run a buffet as well and are not at a loss for potato's and noodles). We ended our meal by getting the pie trio: we got the lemon meringue, apple, and peach. The pies were good - not amazing. There are always two things that are true when you go to Der Dutchman: You eat way too much and you wish you could have more. I love their broasted chicken, mashed potatoes, and salad bar, but always go for the buffet so that I can also have a little bit of cream corn, a little bit of noodles, a bite or two of beets, and a spoonful of bread pudding. There are lots of Amish restaurants in the area, but this is the best. I really like their new entrance and seating plan. The service is fast and friendly. A little more expensive than I wish it would be. Don't forget to leave with something from the bakery. read more

The food lacks value at 19 dollars not including drink and we only had two plates not full to try everything. The cherry crumble wasn't great the bread pudding was ok. I mean for the price they should give you a dessert or have a couple wow entrees, or don't charge for the drink. I haven't been back since 2023 and now I remember why. When I'm in Ohio Amish country, this is one of my go to restaurants. First of all, if you're lucky enough to get a window seat, the view of Amish Country is beautiful. I've been here during Covid when the buffet was closed and they were serving the salad bar to you. I love their salad bar whether they are serving me or I'm serving myself. There are beets and I love beets. My last visit was in July and the buffet was back. It was perfect because i brought my sister. It was her first time so the buffet was perfect. And I know exactly what I like and I was able to get a little bit of everything. I enjoy the broasted chicken, stuffing, and noodles. It's all so delicious. The service is always friendly and prompt. They really know how to treat you here. Don't be discouraged if you walk up and there's a line. It goes pretty fast because the restaurant is huge! And don't forget to stop by the bakery when you leave the restaurant, it's around the back by the parking lot. Grab some delicious fry pies! read more
