BEWARE MAREN! Horrible Waitstaff, incredible food. I visited this restaurant a bit over a month ago. They have a great selection of food that ranges widely. Everything I have tried in my nearly dozen visits has been delicious. Sadly I will not be returning to this establishment due to an incident. A middle aged woman named Maren was our waitress, she never once checked our table without being forcefully flagged down and seemed to vanish frequently. When we did manage to get her attention she took a considerable length of time to supply us with very basic amenities we requested at the time of ordering and a refill. Due to her poor service I left a cash tip of $5 on a $38 order. An untaxed 13% tip seemed more than adequate for the incredibly poor service we received. Upon returning home I noticed I had left my card at the restaurant. It was late into the evening and I called them to see if I could pick up my card. Maren answered and was very polite and assured me I could swing by if I made it in 10 minutes. Great! No problem. I lived just a few hundred yards away. Suddenly she asked my name so she could see if they had the card. Once I gave my name she instantly changed in her attitude. She told me I could, in fact, not come get my card and proceeded to insult me for her tip before hanging up on me. I was baffled but figured she had just had a frustrating night, despite the restaurant being quite slow that evening. When I came around the next afternoon I was greeted by a cheerful hostess, I explained the reason for my coming and she instantly became hostile and cold towards me as well. I was told to find Maren by the bar and get my card. Maren saw me and gave me a look of disgust, proceeded to never make eye contact again and tossed me my card. I have worked in the food and service industry almost my entire adult life and seeing this level of plain disrespect towards a customer that not only frequents the establishment but never once lowered themselves to the rude level they were treated. I have not returned since and have no intention to. My Grandfather is friends with the owner and assured me he is a good man. I hope nothing but the best for Bricks but personally will never eat there again. read more

The fried pickles and mushrooms are just awesome! The fried shrimp is fresh, meaty, and crispy. My daughter loved her fried shrimp buffalo style. My shrimp and crab cake goat cheese BLT was just incredible! Every time we're in Beaufort, this is our place to eat. read more

Let me say it's a good place for a beer. The glasses were ice cold and the beer on tap was refreshing. However huge portions = mediocre food. The fish tacos were a disappointment. Soggy over-battered fish topped with way too much wet coleslaw. Fish and chips were the same consistency(fried fish coated in batter that became soggy in an instant). We were only the second table to be seated, it still took 45 minutes for our food to come out. Both plates, nachos and a cheese burger were cold. We upgraded to the truffle fries or crack fries as they called them and they were obviously old. When I complained and sent my nachos back because they were ice cold the waitress argued with me. I can promise you I know the difference between hot and cold. My husbands burger was so sloppy and greasy it looked like a child put it together. The bun was wet. I asked for the fries to be taken off as they were inedible and I was told no. The waitress brought our bill and said the manager stated that our food was cold because the ac was blowing on it. I said that I was surprised that the manager couldn't come out and speak to us herself and we were told by the waitress that there wasn't a reason for her to speak to us. So terrible food, terrible service and a terrible attitude isn't a reason for a manager. Thumbs way down on this place. read more

Im gonna start with the fact that our server came to the table 3 times and we were here for an hour and a half. Don't get me wrong either. We were waiting for service and our food for and hour and a half. We weren't just goofing off holding up time. AND IT WAS SLOW. maybe 3 tables besides us. And all three tables were pissed off. Food orders were messed up And the food was not great at all. We left our full plates there with 1 or 2 bites taken out because of how greasy it was. It was a straight puddle of grease on the plate. The only reason I'm giving 2 stars is because the bartenders were magnificent. They were up going and so happy. The other waitstaff acted like they hated their lives. There was once a time this restaurant was my absolute favorite in the local area. Even now, the manager is gentlemanly and shows genuine care in his customer's experience. The food is still delicious and the portions are superb. However, the one thing I absolutely can not tolerate in any restaurant is feeling neglected. The WORST experience we have had at a restaurant in Beaufort. We used to love Bricks, but after a 75 minute wait for food, an extremely dismissive and rude manager, we will never be back. The table behind us sat down after us and had finished their meal by the time we decided to leave. Whatever is wrong with the staff here, I hope the owners fix it for their sake. I should say that my review may be slightly biased since I was tired and had driven down from Charleston after work just to meet some friends in town for the night. From the outside, Bricks didn't look like somewhere I'd normally venture. The crowd looked a little "rough". I couldn't have been more wrong. The trivia contest we got in on was fun and lively, but there were definitely families and younger couples. The food... eh... 2-stars maybe. It was pretty typical fried bar food. Everything else, including the ridiculously cheap drinks and incredible service, made up for the food, though, and Bricks gained an extra star. I LOVED this restaurant. Their menu has a variety of options to suit anyone's palate. The atmosphere is casual...not need to get dressed up, which is such a comfort. Even when packed, the restaurant is not loud where you can't hear the person next to you. The parking lot is spacious and easy too. It is across from the cemetery, not in downtown Beaufort which is also a plus, because you are not fighting for a spot in the lots or meters on the streets. They have trivia on certain nights, which you can play at the bar or your table. Our waitress that night was incredibly courteous, helpful to offer suggestions, and attentive to our needs. She constantly checked in on us, and didn't do the "So how is it?" when we haven't taken a bit/just took one bite. I had the crab cakes with mashed potatoes and fresh zucchini (green/yellow) and the crab cakes were huge! I've been to so many restaurants where it says crab cake on the menu, and it is literally just 1 crab cake and about the size of a small can of tuna. This piece was so thick and large that I took more than 1/2 home and it tasted just as perfect the next day reheated (I often don't reheat seafood). My boyfriend ordered the 1 lbs meatloaf. That sucker was gigantic. He can eat, and he couldn't make a dent!!! I honestly loved the place. The food is delicious, and for the price you pay, you are not disappointed in the amount of food you get. I would definitely come back!!! read more

It's late on Saturday night, Valentines Day. I'd had a long day at work and I was tired and a bit hungry. It wasn't busy. All j wanted was a small light quick bite. Pork, beans and rice soup. I should've got the cup. The bowl was maybe three cups. It was delicious, comfort food, perfect with a couple saltines. It seemed to take a bit long to come out. No napkin and the large bowl teetered on a long rectangular charger so I took the charger off right away. I also ordered tea. The bartender got it promptly but never asked how Id like it and again no spoon. Maybe I'm too tired, maybe I expect too much. When anyone dines anywhere, large meal or small, inexpensive or pricey shouldn't a patron, a customer be given a little attention? How's your meal? Would you like more tea? Can I cash that out for you? Side work in my opinion should come after waiting on customers, right? One more thing. I needed a take out container for the rest of the soup. I had to spoon it into a tiny container and actually eat a bit more so it would fit in the container. No bag or anything?? read more

Had lunch there today around 1:30. Almost every thing that could go wrong did. The completely aloof manager was just amazing in his shirking of responsibilities. The only time he spoke with us was when he brought us our entrees and we asked him where our wings order (placed immediately when we sat down) was. We told him to cancel the order and he said he would and he'd remove it from the bill. Meanwhile, our waitress, who was also the bartender, was missing in action for 5-10 minutes, apparently because the manager had sent her to the back to replace some depleted bottle. My 'Wild Mushroom/Pesto' burrito didn't have either in it. I'll end with that we wound up being charged for 7 out of the 8 wings we had ordered. This after the waitress brought us the check and announced she'd comped our beers, and we weren't charged for the wings, but that they would be out shortly. We didn't wait. read more

This review is for drinks and trivia only. We didn't have any of the food, so please note that in this 5 star rating. Our group of 6 arrived last Thursday for trivia because we were spending the week at Fripp, typed "Beaufort bar trivia" into Google, and drove the 25 or so minutes to the bar. We got a table almost immediately. A major plus is that it's $2 vodkas all night on trivia nights. The actual trivia was a little different format than we're used to. You turn in your team name before the actual trivia starts. It's 6 or so rounds of 6 questions in varying categories. 2 of the rounds are worth a free bucket of beer. And the last round is Final Jeopardy! format. Super fun. As for the drinks, it's $2 pints of PBR, $4.25 pints of Sweetwater 420, and everything in between. You and your friends can get all sloshy for $20 total. The trivia is great, the people are friendly, and the host is perfect outside of being a Yankees fan who went to Clemson. read more

This was the first time my husband and I had tried the place and it was awesome! We moved to Beaufort about two months ago and have always seen this parking lot full and kept saying we needed to try it out. Well, we finally went and will definitely be back! Thursday- $2 vodka. :) My husband and I both ordered burgers. We both agreed that those were the best burgers we have ever had! I ordered sweet potato fries with my burger and those were great as well! The reason I gave Bricks a 4/5 stars is because of the service. Our server did not seem to care about our table and my husband's and my drinks were always empty, she didn't come back to check on us after someone else delivered the food, and was not to be found at the end of the night when we were ready to pay. We do remember the name but will not mention it--maybe she was having an off night. Anyway, can't wait to return and have another burger! read more

This place has a cool vibe and I expected bar food. I've got to say I was pleasantly surprised by the taste and quality of the food. Good food, but we have decided not to frequent Bricks anymore due to their 'weird' bill payment method. The server hands you the 'machine' for your to pay your bill. You don't get to look at the bill to see if it is correct, unless you specifically ask for a paper bill. But then you still pay via the machine WHILE SHE STAND THERE staring at you to add the already suggested tip of 20%, 25% 30%...What's up with that. How 'awkward' to add the tip, pay the bill when she stands there and waits for you to 'hurry up'. Come on, Bricks. This is is just not cool with us! Two stars for the service, not the food. Been here a handful of times when visiting from out of town and I've got to say that the service has deteriorated greatly over the past 3 years. We had a group of 10 on a Friday night. We were expecting a wait so we thought we would call ahead for reservations because of the group size. We were told very rudely on the phone that there were no reservations for groups less than 12 and that it was first come first served. We said that's fine but we thought they may like to know that a larger group was coming in for dinner and again they repeated first come first served with no interest in when we were arriving. So - we arrive and tell the host we have 10 in our party and the first question he asks is whether or not we are the party of 10 that made a reservation (which we were not). So which is it - 10 or 12 for a reservation? So we were seated in the bar area and the server seemed to be juggling the tables in the bar and also filling drink orders at the bar which made our service very slow. To top it all off all of our meals came out at various times and by the time the 10th person got their meal, the first 2 were already done. Many other plates were missing sides. Very disappointed because we really like the food and being from out of town it's a destination spot for us. Perhaps no more. There are plenty of other places around to eat that provide a good atmosphere with good service. I'm not sure whether or not this place thinks they are so popular that they can skimp on the service or what but 8 of the 10 in our party are full time residents of the area and I doubt any of them will be back. If your business can survive on PI graduation weekends with no attention to service then more power to you. read more
