Brides Beware! I had a extremely disappointing experience with Bridal Alterations by Anaheit. From the beginning, Anaheit seemed condescending, focusing solely on the hem and appearing overwhelmed by my dress, which is from Vows, the only company she supposedly works with. At the second fitting, she rushed around, claiming my dress was finished when nothing was done on the top half. The straps were falling, sleeves ill-fitting, and she seemed oblivious to it. Insisting I take the dress home, she took an hour to hastily address the sleeves, skipping a final fitting. The dress was unsteamed, and Anaheit demanded an extra $120 in cash for sewing buttons and cutting sleeves, leaving them unfinished. Overall she would not listen talking over me and my MOH. Adding to my dissatisfaction, the hem at the top of the dress seemed lopsided, likely due to her decision to hem it from the top. Moreover, Anaheit took length off the back of my dress without my consent, as it was not something I wanted or discussed during the alterations process. This further contributed to a regrettable experience at Bridal Alterations by Anaheit. Trust me go somewhere else I wish I had! I still have to take it to be fixed the month of my wedding now. She clearly has an in with Vows to be getting this amount of business with her lack of professionalism. read more

I came here because Anahit is famous for her work and I had a great past experience with her on a non-bridal dress. It is evident that my $2,800 wedding dress was not handled with care and detail as it did not fit on my wedding day after $1,000+ in alterations. I'm certain if I brought this to Anahit's attention she will swear up and down I did something wrong because her work is impeccable. I had 4 fittings with her over the course of 5 months. Each fitting all she talked about was how busy she is, how many brides she has, just so so so busy "no time for anything." I understand the postponed weddings set her back but she should not have taken my dress if she wouldn't have time for it. You are expected to stand like a statue as she alters the dress and practically not even breath. Her militant disciplined attitude I actually appreciated as her no nonsense attitude fooled me to think that I was in excellent hands. My last fitting was 48 hours before the big day. I had the dress on for maybe 10 seconds and Anahit did her usual "my dear, looks beautiful, my work is perfect" bit and she rushed me along as she had another bride about to walk in. After hair and makeup I put on my beloved gown just to almost break down in tears as it was much too big. My bridemaids and I did everything Anahit instructed us to from the "magic bra" to the science on putting on the gown "bend over, arms out!" They used a whole spool of double sided tape on me but the dress was too heavy to hold. In the end I walked down the aisle with my bra hanging out of my dress. Said my vows at the alter with the dress falling off of me. Have 1,400+ wedding photos that capture the devastation of my wedding dress not fitting me on the big day. My grandmother was brought to tears seeing my dress not fit and wants a few words with Anahit herself... What hurts the most is I know a bride who was married 3 months before me and went to Anahit and her dress fit like a glove. read more

Please do yourself a favor; STAY AWAY. I had a fantastic experience picking out my wedding dress at Vows, and then they referred me to Anahit for my fitting. My first appointment with her was... fine I guess (not pleasant by any means, but not horrible), seemed like she knew what she was doing but being in her presence is exhausting. After my second appointment, I decided I never wanted to work with her or deal with her at all, again. For my first appointment, my step father and mother came with me; we didn't know we had to wait literally in the dark hallway/mud room when you first arrive, so we entered because it was my appointment time and she immediately yelled at us saying "GET OUT!!! wait in the hall!!! there's a bride in here!!!" When we were allowed in, she immediately called my step father "dad" and asked if he is walking me down the aisle..very insensitive if you ask me. The entire time we were doing the initial fitting/hemming she was talking about herself. Her experiences of being a seamstress, her childhood, her family, how she immigrated to the US...I'm sorry but this is supposed to be about the bride.. My entire family was exhausted after this appointment. She is SO draining to just exist around. For the 2nd appointment, I asked her to add lace to my dress and she said she would pin it where she thought was best, so I could try it on to see if I liked it. I went in for that appointment to try the dress, and the dress was awful. The dress I chose is gorgeous and she put a literal heart on my butt in lace and basically covered the entire front with thick lace- it went from an elegant and subtle wedding dress to something that looked victorian, which is just not what I was looking for. I was very nice to her, saying "it's very pretty, but I'm not sure if I like this.." or "not sure how I feel about this". She would not listen to me. She was going ON AND ON about how hard she worked on the lace, how perfect her work is, how symmetrical everything was and how intricate the work that she put in was... Your opinion for YOUR wedding dress does not matter to her. She will do what she wants, and she will make you regret it if you give your opinion. She is beyond opinionated, rude, she has no filter, and I didn't even like her work even though Vows told me specifically to go to HER above all their other seamstresses...I heard she's related to someone who works at Vows so do with that what you will. read more

Anahit is the best! I had bought this dress secondhand as a size 14 (I'm a size 4). Anahit completely re-worked the dress and made it my perfect wedding dress. The week before my wedding, she fit me in two times to make sure it was perfect and exactly how I wanted it. Like many others here, the boutique where I bought my wedding dress recommended Bridal Alterations by Anahit; based on various reviews, it seems there may be family connection of some sort as opposed to purely business. Some friends and I contacted Anahit for our wedding dresses and were each given the same spiel, "Only 1 appointment left! Come in ASAP to lock it down, otherwise I'm booked!" She conveyed a sense of urgency that if I didn't lock down an appointment immediately, every seamstress in town would be booked, despite me calling 5 months in advance. Upon additional research of Yelp reviews, it seems the average cost tends to be over $700 with this particular business. Look - people can charge what they want to charge, but it is fair to provide directional pricing to customers so they can have a sense of what to expect. I found an incredible seamstress who tailored my dress to perfection for less than $200; her work was so exquisite guests at my wedding asked me if I was wearing a custom designer gown. You do not need to spend over $700 to have your wedding gown tailored. Look - wedding planning can be stressful - I personally think that surrounding yourself with calm, professional vendors is better for you than frantic, high intensity vendors that imply if you don't lock them down ASAP you'll have no other options. Anahit is amazing! She is thorough, professional, and clearly an expert seamstress. She is direct and to the point and will tell you exactly what is expected at each appointment. My dress didn't need much in terms of alterations, shortening of a shoulder strap on one side and a hem in addition to the bustle. She worked efficiently and informed me of exactly what she was doing during each step. During my second fitting when my sister-in-law needed to learn how to do the bustle, she was very patient and really made sure the instructions were clear. She had my SIL take a video of her doing the bustle for reference and then had my SIL demonstrate doing the bustle so she was confident we'd be fine at the wedding. Not to mention, the bustle was beautiful!! It was expertly hidden in the existing pattern of the dress. She really made sure to craft the bustle in a way that would show off my dress's embellishments and I was so happy with it. Anahit did a great job with my wedding dress! I was referred to her from Vows and took their advice to make an appointment with her for a few weeks after my dress would come in pretty much the same day that I purchased my dress. Vows also correctly told me that Anahit would need me to have my wedding shoes to properly fit my dress. I thought she did great work with my dress for a few reasons: 1) the bust needed to come in significantly because my hips are larger than my bust, and she managed do that while still perfectly preserving the beading, lace, and folding details of the bodice of my dress, 2) she added some kind of bustle that didn't look bunched or obvious to my dress that really preserved the look without adding any "lumpiness", and 3) it fit like a glove and really highlighted my waist. Anahit is fastidious, and makes sure everyone takes off their shoes before entering her studio. She was also very helpful answering my questions about care, travelling with the dress, and making sure I had videos for my bridesmaids and mom showing how to get me in the dress and bustle it. As a few folks have mentioned, she is very busy, so sometimes I would wait 10 minutes or so before starting my appointment, and she does have an opinion and is very honest with you. She gave me opinions about what shoes and accessories to wear. However, I thought her advice was great and she really helped me pull my bridal look together. I needed someone who had seen a lot of brides to tell me what was working and what wasn't when I was on the fence. Trust the process. Anahit has opinions and scissors and is not afraid to use them. But the woman knows her sh*t. She talks a mile a minute but she's right 100% of the time. She will tell you exactly what is and is not working, and then she will make it work. I had my dress cut to fit me, so the only alteration I needed was the hem. She kept going on, "Oh honey, this dress, it fits you so nice. It hugs you so well." So I asked her, "Anahit, don't you tell every bride they look good?" "Of course not. I'm not gonna lie." She flat out told me, "You might cry here, but not on your wedding day." My dress was head-to-toe sequins, so she had to remove (by hand!) rows of beading to hem the front. She then reattached the beading and you'd never notice anything had changed. And because the fabric was so heavy, she created a custom bustle for my dress that included eight completely hidden buttons and a blend of flat and gathered fabric folds. I watched her drop everything to help brides who had only a few weeks to get fitted and bought a dress that needed a major overhaul. She's a MAGICIAN. And has a wonderful team. I used Anahit two years ago and was referred by where I got my dress, Vows. Personally, I had a great experience with her. I found her to be a true master of her craft and she was professional and thorough. She was extremely clear about what she needed and was honest about what times she could do and that moving any dates would be tough because she was very, very booked. The dates that we had planned, I showed up on time and followed her directions and I had absolutely zero issues. I adored having Anahit do my dress and would go to her again in a heartbeat. Have faith in the Anahit process. Anahit has a great personality full of spunk and has 20+ years of experience in wedding dress alterations. She is self-taught which is even more impressive. You can tell immediately that she is extremely skilled, has a steady hand and a great design eye. Note your first visit is your first fitting. It's critical to know this going in. She typically does not have consultations only because she is highly sought after and has a full calendar of other clients. Knowing this, you should be prepared to determine the hem length and bustle on your very first visit. It's imperative that you have your final wedding shoes with you. Her scheduling is fairly tight between clients, so don't be surprised if you're wrapping up your appointment and the next client is getting geared up or vice versa. At times, there may be two clients in their dresses at the same time in the rather small shop. She's often having to answer the phone too while she is with clients... downside of owning a business and not having a receptionist. Again, not a big deal, just go in knowing this. When she is working on your dress, she definitely has her undivided attention, which really is all that matters. Her pricing is very transparent, and she works quickly with her team of other (very sweet and helpful) seamstresses to meet all of the deadlines determined at the outset of dropping off the dress. I am very happy with the final product - shortened hem line, bustle (6 buttons), added add'l cloth paneling to the top and added cups. read more

I would rate Anahit 0 stars if possible. I wanted to share some photos showing what she did to my dress since the photos will speak for themselves. Please note that after my second appointment, after Anahit trimmed too much material off the bottom of my dress, I left to find another seamstress. If anyone reading this is looking for a great seamstress, I would HIGHLY recommend Julia's Alterations in Northboro. You will have a far superior experience than you will get with Anahit and I would recommend you check out Julia's Yelp profile to verify that for yourself. Anahit trimmed two inches too much off the bottom of my dress. Vows (where I purchased my dress) cut material off a sample dress so I could provide material to the new seamstress. That is how damaged my dress was from Anahit. Anahit claimed she would refund me the deposit I paid - then changed her mind. Very unprofessional. Instead of owning up to her mistake (mistakes happen), she claimed I gained weight and that's why the dress became short. I don't know very many brides who gain weight a month prior to their wedding (it is always the opposite) and it is not possible to gain so much weight in a short amount of time that it would make the dress two inches too short. Anahit also claimed my alterations were complete after all she did was hem and bustle my dress. You can see from my photos that not only was the dress too short but the bust area was not altered to fit correctly on me at all. Luckily, Julia took care of everything and fixed Anahit's mistakes. I don't typically write reviews but I am writing this detailed review in the hopes that I can save another bride from the horrible and stressful experience I had with Anahit. Lastly, Anahit's "changing room" (part of her store sectioned off with a curtain) has tons of other bride's dresses in it. Vows recommendation- Do not go! I was referred by Vows to schedule an appointment at Bridal alterations by Anahit. The experience was less than pleasant. Anahit insisted the dress be altered in ways that made the fit uncomfortable. She was rude during the fitting and in the end, handed me a very large bill. I told her I would take my dress and think about the suggested alterations. She insisted I go to the atm and withdraw $90 for her time (does not accept cc or Venmo) while she held my dress. I have no problem paying for her time but the experience was so unprofessional and uncomfortable. I suggest finding a different tailor. read more

Anahit is a wonderful amazing seamstress!!! I just picked up my dress from her and it was such a blessing to have her help with alterations. She gave suggestions on everything from the hemline to the bustle to removing some layers so it wasn't so bulky. She also made me a gorgeous and delicate custom veil that matched my dress color and dress length perfectly. She knows EXACTLY what she's doing and is such an expert in wedding dresses. Don't go to anyone else. Before coming I read all the wonderful reviews, and a couple that we're less than fab. I think you need to trust in her process though, and be super flexible. Expect that your appointment will take 90 minutes, and people will be in and out. It's a joy to come to her shop though and chat with other brides and learn dress tips from them. read more

I have to admit.. reading some of the reviews on here made me afraid to meet Anahit. I was recommended by Vows to contact her as the other people I called on their recommended list turned me down when I told them my wedding was in 3 months and my dress was all sequins and beads. Honestly, I had a great experience with her. She was extremely organized despite being incredibly busy, set three dates for me to go and see her within the first phone call. When I first arrived, she was all smiles when greeting me. I can tell just from the way she talked about my dress, the materials, the layers, that she was very knowledgeable. I knew from the reviews Anahit would cut my dress at the first meeting, but she did ask first! She is also honest. She gave me suggestions on what she could do to make me happy, but also told me what she thought about what would look good, what would NOT be doable, and what would be a waste of money. For example, I asked if she could make my dress more fitted around the butt. She said she could, but it would require shortening the train from the material she'd have to cut off. I took her advice and chose to leave the dress as is. She also accommodated me wanting the boning on the bodice to show more and removed the thick opaque lining. She then told me there was no need to waste money paying for her to sew in cups if I already had my own sticky bras at home. When I went for my last fitting, she apologized that she had to charge me just a bit more than she anticipated due to the work she had to do to remove lining from the bodice, but it was still a totally reasonable price (I was again, nervous about this after reading some of the reviews, but I didn't feel like she was particularly expensive). She showed me why she couldn't shorten the straps any longer and where to use dress tape, as well as how to wear the sticky bra best. She can be blunt, for sure! She told me straight up, that my dress was definitely a better choice for girls with bigger busts (of which I have none of LOL!) but she also told me that other than that, the dress fit me like a glove. She is so sweet and pleasant to work with (I know it couldn't have just been with me because I witnessed how accommodating and nice she was to the brides before and after me as well). I even joked with her, "Anahit, do you ever get any crazy brides in here?" and she said "No, just that some brides are particular about what they want and we have to communicate to get on the same page." I couldn't believe that with how busy she is that she really was still so empathetic towards all her customers. I think it's important to keep in mind that while your wedding day is a big deal, you should also treat her with respect and consideration, because she really does care about making sure you look beautiful on your big day. My experience was very similar to other reviewers regarding Anahit's toxic and belligerent tone -- making the entire experience very unpleasant. Most of all, she rushed the fittings forgoing last fitting (please insist to have final try-on after all alterations completed). As a result, it was a real detraction in my wedding pictures to see one shoulder slipping off throughout my wedding day!!!! Mixed feelings here. Anahit did an amazing job on my alterations. My dress ended up fitting me like a glove. The alterations were quite pricey though when all was said and done (which I wasn't expecting). I paid almost as much for the alterations as I did for my dress from Vows. The thing that was really disappointing though, was that when I went to pick my dress up after my final fitting, Anahit let me know that she didn't have time to press my dress, which I found unacceptable. Shouldn't that be part of the service, especially with the amount she charged me? I was in a time crunch and had to find someone else to press my dress the week of the wedding. Anahit came recommended to me by Vows because of her ability to work well with lace, and she did not disappoint! My dress had lace appliqués at the bottom and would need to be hemmed, so Vows ordered the lace separately for me, and Anahit was able to sew it back on seamlessly. When my dress came in, the mid-section was more sheer than it had looked on the sample (I ordered ivory lining instead of the champagne on the sample), and I had asked her about adding more lining there. Anahit recommended that I hold off, as the lining would look heavy given the different beading that was there, and take away from the design. She said we could add it later if I changed my mind, but she was 100% right. I'm so glad she encouraged me to hold off on that change and that we didn't add it! Fair warning, she does cut the bottom of the dress on your first appointment, which I'd guess could be alarming, but I had read that in the reviews so was prepared and my dress came out the perfect length. She did a wonderful job with the bustle, high up and lying flat. She strategically put the buttons on appliqués so you couldn't even see them, and she showed my sister how to bustle and let her video the instructions (which I highly recommend). Make sure you move around when it's bustled to see how it will lay while you're dancing, which is different than when you're standing still. I had a great experience with Anahit. I understand where some reviewers are coming from when discussing Anahit's tone and communication style, she is very straight forward and no nonsense. I also found her to be warm, funny, supportive, and open to my opinions. All of my bridesmaids and family members live out of town, so I didn't have anyone to come with me to my appointments - Anahit made me feel at ease stating that she would be my "friend, bridesmaid, and mother" to ensure I had a good experience. The alterations process can be very stressful, especially if the dress doesn't fit the way it did when you first picked it out. My dress was too short and fit completely different than expected. She found a perfect match for the lace to extend the bottom of my dress and even though she did not agree with my requests to let certain areas out - she accepted what I wanted as the bride and I made sure my opinion was heard. Everything people have said is true. Anahit talks a million miles a minute, is blunt/hilarious as heck, is a wizard at sewing and styling, and knows exactly what she's doing. I also called Anahit for an emergency fitting. I tried my dress on with 2 weeks to until the Big Day and it practically fell down (it was a strapless dress that previously fit perfect!). I wasn't trying to lose weight but I think all the stress of wedding planning did the trick. Anahit luckily had a cancellation for the very next day which was amazing for such short notice. She took in the dress about an inch on the sides, added cups, and finished the bustle. It was completely finished in less than 1 week - amazing! Instead waited to do what she did so I didnt have choice & bulldozed me. Ruined my wedding day for me and created a lot of trauma for me. Scammed me, tried to insult my intelligence and financial status, scammed out of money & I'm still dealing the trauma from it all. Major dysmorphia now in the pics, never pulled the corset back in so was bulging all pics, she ruined what was supposed to be my dream gown. Will not ever get over it. Waited till 2 days before wedding to finish added too much fabric beadwork to get more money from me then never added boning back or pulled corset hips back in so gown shape was no longer correct kept making alterations to get more money. Beware & Vows recommending always when time and time again this is happening. Horrific experience. read more

Anahit did an amazing job at altering my mother's old organza wedding gown from a dress to a top and skirt. She added beautiful buttons, added panels and lace on the sleeves and front and bottom of the top, took in the sleeves, added a satin band to he skirt... she did a LOT of work on this outfit and it looks really wonderful. She's a wizard who can really work some magic! I found her prices affordable and a good timeline for work. I would not recommend Anahit for bridal alterations. She turned something that was supposed to be fun and enjoyable into somewhat of a nightmare. My dress turned out to be the main thing I was stressed about because Anahit would not make it fit the way I requested, bulldozed me and was very intimidating, and pushed everything to the last minute. My dress was way too large in the bust, waist, and straps and was not wearable for my wedding. I expressed concerns to Anahit on every fitting but she waved me away and just told me to use tape. But even after trying tape it just did not fit. I ended up having to take it to another seamstress for emergency work after paying Anahit ~$900. She did a great job on the bottom of my dress but the actual fit through the body and bust was not suitable. She is highly recommended but it's not worth the stress and worry that comes along with her work. read more

I bought my dress from Vows, and they recommended Anahit. I am SO glad I went. She is out of this world! I felt like I came out with a whole new dress that was so much better than the original that I didn't know how I liked the original in comparison. She listened to what I wanted, and offered her expertise when needed. She's definitely intense, but she knows what she's talking about!! I would go to her 1000x over, she is a perfectionist and her team works hard to get everything perfect. She even made me a veil and had the exact lace to match my dress! The only complaint that I have is that I felt that pricing was very vague, so I never knew what I owed until I owed it. Over all, I ended up paying $700 for all alterations, but she had to fix some tears and replaced the entire back panel of my dress including all buttons! read more

PLEASE READ I was sent by Vows to have my dress altered by Anahit. I live over 2 hours away but thought if they were recommending her than this was the place to go. Anahit was nice and very direct with what she was doing and with her thoughts. At first I felt confident with the decision I made to have my dress done by her. End result, the top of my dress was way to big! I said something to Anahit about it at my final fitting and she said to me to just use tape and it would be good. I trusted her although I had my doubts. Unfortunately for me I was way to busy to argue. This last fitting was 3 days from my wedding and I was leaving that night for the festivities. With everything going on, I didn't put my dress on again until my wedding day. Not like anything could have been done before that though. The top, like I said was way to big. Even with tape and everything else we tried to fix it with. I literally played with my straps the whole night that it's embarrassing. Pictures all show me with my hands fixing my dress. All concerns I voiced to Anahit but she wanted nothing to do with it. My beautiful dress ended up being a nuisance and I was uncomfortable the whole evening. Do not go to Anahit for alterations, even though she is recommended by Vows. She is incredibly difficult to work with. She bulldozes any thoughts or opinions you have and will try to convince you to do whatever she thinks (or is easiest for her). She cannot look at a dress objectively and talks over you the entire time. Make sure you bring someone with you to stand up to her! It was a terrible experience, my dress did not fit how I wanted and I had to scramble to find a way to make it work, but couldn't stand the thought of trying to work with her anymore. She tries to justify everything and will never take ownership of mistakes. I was so disappointed to have such a negative experience. Also EXPENSIVE!! My dress barely needed any work and I paid $800. I called to get an estimate of bridal gown alteration but she was unprofessional on the phone. My wedding is mid October and got my dress from VOWS in late July and she assumed that I "did not pay attention" about calling ahead of time when VOWS gave me the list of tailors. Well, VOWS never mentioned this. Does anyone make an appointment with a car repair shop before buying a car? If you are a future bride, STAY AWAY! My encounter with Anahit was very bad and it left me very anxious and stressed about my wedding dress. She is very ill tempered and does not communicate well. I wanted to ask some questions before moving forward with my alterations which is normal for a bride. The questions I asked were pretty reasonable, I asked how much she estimates that the hem and the bustle will cost. She freaked out and started to scream at me. Saying that she is the best seamstress in the world with over 26 years of experience. She continued screaming saying people fly from all over just to see her and that if I'm worried about estimates that I should go somewhere else. I was completely shocked, just listing to her lashing out on me for no apparent reason. As a future bride on a budget I need to know what to expect since I have heard people ending up paying Anahit $700+ for simple alterations. I have also heard that she can be a bit sneaky with the pricing and that she is not very transparent, which I can confirm after my encounter. I have to say that I'm happy that she showed her true self before I committed to her. I know that Anahit has a lot of good reviews and I'm not doubting her work. But I could not let someone so ill tempered with bad communications skills handle the most important dress I will ever wear. If you want your alteration process to run smooth and stress-free go somewhere else. read more
