Jill is amazing! She takes care of the alterations. Last year, I purchased a wedding dress off the rack at a wedding retailer/chain that closed down during the pandemic. Found Bridal Gown Care on yelp and set up my dress alteration appts through text messaging/email with Carol, the owner. Bridal Gown Care cleaned my dress with care. Each appt with Jill went smoothly. For those concerned about pandemic protocols, the shop is clean and Jill wears a mask the whole time. I also wore a mask and gloves. All was super safe. At my last visit there, my dress had a final process and was ready to go! This was all done in 2020. The shop is located in a strip mall next to a pet store/grooming place. I dropped off my Anna Campbell wedding gown at Bridal Gown Care on 6/20/18 and picked it up on 9/14/18. Carol was professional, knowledgable and funny. She explained the process and my options thoroughly. They provided a sketch of the dress with measurements for an additional charge, and a cleaning authentication letter to assist in selling. The gown was pressed, stuffed and wrapped, and included a personalized sign for the next bride. The veil, which I am keeping, was separately wrapped with its own sign. Upon pickup, Carol presented the gown and veil and reviewed the services with me. She also included a list of places to resell wedding dresses and tips for selling. Took my wedding dresses here after the wedding. The co-owner, Carol, is very nice and patient in explaining the cleaning and preservation process. They only clean wedding dresses, so they know how to handle the fabrics, beading, and stains. I decided to go with them since they were one of the few local businesses that specialize in wedding dress cleaning/preservation. I felt better dropping off the dresses in Long Beach rather than shipping them across the country to some factory. They have a guy who's been cleaning wedding dresses for them for 14 years. After the dresses are cleaned, Carol does a quality check on the dress, and then they put it in an acid-free (not just ph-neutral) preservation box (if you ordered preservation). They also include insurance for the dresses (come prepared with a rough estimate of the value, including alterations). They also have a free pick up/drop off service in LA/OC, and they can provide free courier service for non-local brides. I believe their main office is in Foothill Ranch, down near Irvine. I haven't gotten my dresses back yet, but so far so good. The process takes around 3 weeks. Will write updates as needed. read more

This is in response to the owner's comment to my review: She dodged every criticism - no apologies and not once owned up to her mistake. Gowns should be inspected by all brides after a cleaning. I would suggest hanging up the dresses, allowing it to be inspected by the bride upon pick up, and hiring someone that can pack the dresses in under 45 minutes. What bride is okay with preserving their dress with lint and hairs attached?? I would be appalled if after 10+ years I took out my dress and found lint and other people's hair attached to my dress. I found lint and hair on the exterior of the train, not the interior, as stated in the comment. This is not a manufacturer issue, this is a cleaning service that didn't inspect their work. There was clearly a lack of care on the cleaners part. The shop is completely carpeted, and the train of my dress was probably dragged across the lint and hair filled carpet, picking up everything like velcro. The owner made amends that were convenient for her: she offered me a discount without offering to clean my dress again. She offered to drop off my dress but when my dress was ready she asked me when I would go pick it up. I asked her to send me photos of my dress after it was ready because I didn't trust that she'd drop off my dress fully cleaned. She emailed me thumbnail-sized photos of my dress, this didn't do anything for me, and it took her a couple days to send them to me. A Starbucks gift card isn't sufficient for the headache caused by this unfortunate experience. read more

2 stars for the appointment mix up and the fact I can't use the Yelp deal (doesn't apply to alterations even though it doesn't say that), but 4 stars for Carol and Cathi being awesome to talk to. I sent a request through there site to set up an appointment. Communication with Carol in setting up the appointment was quick and responsive. I was all setup for a 4pm appointment on Saturday. Located right off Lakewood and La Plaza, there was no problem finding parking right in front of the building. Dress cleaning on one side and the salon for fitting a few doors down. So I show up with my mom for my 4pm appointment (on time). Unfortunately there was a miscommunication with another bride. Long story short she took my appointment slot and they were unaware that she wasn't me until she finally corrected them. So my mom and I had to wait 30-40+ minutes. :( But at least making small talk with Carol made the waiting a little more bearable. Eventually Carol walked us over to the salon, and it was just a little awkward since the other bride was still there as we put my stuff down. The rest of the appointment was fine. Cathi showed my mom how to properly lace up my dress and showed us different options for the bustle. Carol showed me an option for my crown and veil. Overall it was a little more than I wanted to spend, and I was disappointed I couldn't use the Yelp deal or get a little break because of what happened. But other than that they were a pleasure to talk to and work with. So until I see how my dress turns out, 3 stars for now. read more

Fantastic service! Carol is incredibly knowledgable about the finer nuances of gown care. I bought a designer silk gown for my wedding and was terrified of taking it to someone who would damage it. In came Carol. I was so impressed with her I drove my gown in from 2 hours away to have it repaired, cleaned, and preserved. Carol walked me through the process in detail before I left my dress. So I needed to find a place that would clean my wedding gown for my big day. I bought my dress at a sample sale so I definitely wanted it cleaned. I met Carol and she was a sweetheart, she asked me where I got it tailored and even pointed out some issues that the tailor messed up on. She offered to fix them for free out of the kindness of her heart so that my dress wouldn't rip. When I went to pick up my dress I was in taken a back on how gorgeous it looked. They did an amazing job and on time for my wedding. She even gave me these little stickies to put on myself so that the dress wouldn't keep falling off me. Thank you so much. I bought my dress from Lovely Bride and they do not do alterations. I didn't think I would need too much done to it in terms of alterations when we purchased the dress. The saleswoman there talked me in to purchasing a size up. (I was between two sizes and was a little reluctant to go up a size since when she measured me it was my first week off of crutches in about 2 1/2 months. I am an active person so knew I would lose some weight after I got back into my regular routine.) Always go with your gut because when I picked up the dress it was falling off of me. Also my dress was a two piece ball gown with a full tulle skirt and the bustier had boning and custom lace. I was a wreck trying to figure out how to make this the gown of my dreams. Cathi is a miracle worker. I feel like this was a big job and she did amazing! Just talking to her I can see that she has a lot of experience behind her and she made good judgement calls about where to alter the dress and where to leave it so it didn't look altered. I was nervous about not taking in the cup size since I am a lot smaller there but after she showed me many different cup shapes we found on that looked really natural and on the big day no one noticed. It was also really great to have two fittings in addition to the consultation because from the first fitting to the second I did lose a little more weight. This is a legit gown care service with lots of knowledge to learn about the gown fabrics and how to take care of it. My gown is perfectly preserved and boxed. I brought my gown on feb and supposed to get it by march but then pandemic happened. But I am very thankful because the very nice lady took care of my gown and i was able to get it by May. We heard about the shop from a relative who praised the service to the heavens. Our daughter's wedding gown was a very full, and very layered ball gown. The outer layer was embellished with delicate embroidery, and the gown was unique. Carol explained the process that they use, and every square inch of the gown is cleaned by hand. It takes skill and patience, and when that is complete the gown is checked under ultra violet to ensure all biological substances are removed. A few drop of white wine can really destroy the fabric over the years. Amazing! I picked it up today, and it was beautifully complete, with the veil - and Carol showed me how to handle it - gloves are also included to ensure no skin acid is transferred to the fabric. Carol is just a delight! I highly recommend her business. She & her husband were a joy to deal with! I did a lot of research and came up with The Clothes Doctor which was very close and quite convenient to me. I contacted them via email on their website and received a prompt response. I scheduled an appointment to take my dress in and met with Carol on the day of. There is an inital consultation and Carol inquired about the dress and we had a long chat. She was very thorough in explaining the cleaning process and even showed a video on her iPad that showed what methods were used to get the dress cleaned. I left feeling that my dress was in good hands and looked forward to seeing how it looked when it was time to come pick it up. The dress cleaning process takes about 3-4 weeks. Incidentally, the girl who was buying my dress happened to be in town and wanted to pick up the dress in person. I figured it would be easier to transfer the dress to her while I was picking it up myself so I inquired with Carol if it would be OK for her shop to be a meeting point and she was more than willing. The buyer was actually able to try on the dress in store (though there isn't much of a set up for that really) and Carol even gave her some information regarding cleaners in the general vicinity of where she was from. In terms of wedding dress cleaing, The Clothes Doctor was a great experience and as far as such things go, I can't imagine it being any better. I went to The Clothes Doctor to clean my wedding dress. I had purchased a sample 100% Silk Taffeta dress and it had quite a bit of dirt as well as a small stain on the bottom hem. It also showed its sample-ness, as there were small flaws in things like loose threads for some of the details in the ruched front. I was taking the dress to a seamstress to be fixed after the cleaning to make it easier to match the threads and had some concerns about how it would do through the cleaning process. I have to say, the services at The Clothes Doctor are just amazing. Carol was very helpful. She took the time to explain their cleaning process and how different stains worked and what they did in order to get rid of them. She took notes on my dress and also talked with me about the material and what to expect when they were finished. The process was going to take 3-4 weeks, as they had to go over the hem by hand to eliminate the dirt stains and then process it in the cleaning drums. I felt perfectly comfortable leaving it in Carol's experienced hands. Last week I went again to the location to pick up my dress. I had called first and Carol told me she had just picked it up. I really couldn't believe how clean they made the dress! 99% of the dirt was gone, the stains were gone and the whole dress looked much brighter and newer than when I bought it. I really couldn't believe how much dirt they had gotten off of the dress. You would never be able to tell unless you inspected it hand over hand. Carol also went over the different details that needed fixing with a seamstress and also gave me a wedding emergency pack for the day of the wedding if anything should happen to it. She also told me she would call me a month before the wedding to check over the dress again. When that happens I will probably also ask them to package the dress for carrying as my wedding is going to be overseas. I can't express my thanks to Carol and the rest of the Clothes Doctor staff for doing such an excellent job cleaning my dress. I am not a particularly finicky bride, but it really does make me happy to see how new my dress looked when I retrieved it. I would highly recommend their staff for the future and will be going back there again after the wedding. Thank you, Yelp, for helping me to find Carol and Bob the Clothes Doctors, I don't know where I would be without them! I got married in November 2010, and after my J Crew dress hung in my closet for months before the wedding, and after I tried it on again and again, three weeks before the wedding it was looking a little wrinkled and understandably worn. I had even ripped a small bit of the hem when stepping into it in my high heels during my alterations appointment, to my great embarrassment. I knew that I couldn't trust bringing it to just any old cleaners, so I found the Clothes Doctor on Yelp, called Carol and made an appointment. Carol sat down with me and described the cleaning process that would be necessary for the particular style and fabric of my gown, showed me the tools that would be used in the cleaning, and described very specifically how the rip would be mended. And when she inspected my dress, she even found a small oil stain that she could easily fix. Carol could not have been more friendly or open to any questions that I had, and able to ease my mind. I had genuine nightmare about something happening to the dress three weeks before the wedding, and with the insurance policy that Carol provided, I felt safe to know that my little dress, inexpensive but already beloved, would be in good hands. Carol was also sweet enough to recommend sewing in a simple wrist loop for my dress so that I could walk in it much easier. This ended up being a complete life-saver on the wedding day, and was something which I would not have thought of / known of without Carol's recommendation. She was genuinely interested in making sure that the dress would be perfect, and a little detail like that went a LONG way. (And Carol, if you're reading this, I think that I forgot to thank you for this in person when we last met - so THANK YOU!) My dress was done promptly and earlier than when promised, and it looked like a million dollars. Carol and her team did a fantastic job with the mending, removing the oil stain, and cleaning the dress in its entirety. On our wedding day, my husband and I danced for hours and hours with our friends and family, and in the process I absolutely and completely destroyed the dress, and quite happily too (as in my opinion that's what the dress is for, to dance the night away in without care!) Even so, in its much loved, dirty and bedraggled state, I brought the haggard dress to Carol after the wedding and she didn't even blink at the mess that it was.
