Expect to be dropped in an abrasive manner if your bill is not large enough. We had an agreement to do a trial with bridalgal for our wedding and a soft agreement on the wedding date for bride + 2 people hair and makeup. I stupidly stopped researching for other makeup and hair (definitely get backups if you're going with bridalgal just in case). However, a new contact for the same date as my wedding came in (that was obviously larger than mine). We were asked to put a deposit to hold the date above the other contract - fair enough so far. At first I said I wanted to do a trial before locking in a $3500 contract. Bridalgal was like ok, but I will let others book your date (2-3 weeks before trial). That was the first wtf moment, where I was just like why would I bet on something and potentially not be able to book them for my wedding. I agreed to pay full for hair and makeup for the bride to lock the contract, but I wasn't sure about what other people would need hair and makeup as my mother-in-law was arranging something separate for the 20+ aunts (Indian wedding). I thought I would just setup the payment for the bride and figure out the other people later (this is way before the trial btw when not knowing what kind of service I would be getting, not being able to show my mom and mother-in-law the results, and the bridal hair + makeup is ~$1500 by itself as I remember). After I offered that, we immediately got dropped with a message equivalent of "you're not paying enough. See yah" about 2 months out from the wedding. After I responded with a "wtf" to that message, bridalgal threatened me that she had all the messages and documentation available. We still haven't secured a new makeup and hairstylist for my wedding ~1.5 months out. While it could be viewed as "just business" and not strictly problematic, I would say that you should perhaps think about whether this is the vibe you want around you for your wedding planning, or if you're not 100% sure about what deposit you need for your wedding party, look elsewhere. We most likely would have booked more people as plans cemented, but I thought a $1500 deposit would've been enough pre-trial. I didn't go through an actual service as we were not paying enough (clearly). Our phone consultation seemed fine and I'm sure whatever makeup/hair people work for the manager are probably great (if you have enough money put down up front and can beat other contracts). read more

Not only is she a terrific, fun, sweet person (I asked her to stay for my entire wedding & everyone loved her) but her technique is far better than conventional makeup. I had three separate make up trials with different artists before finding Lilly. I was actually beginning to freak out. I booked City Sweets to make my wedding cake and had a meeting with my cake decorator about two months before my wedding for a tasting. We talked about Celiac disease since my nephew has it and needs to be on a gluten free diet. My cake decorator also suffers from it and asked if we realized how her face was dry. We didn't notice, but she told us a story about a reaction she had and how she needed a facial to fix the aftermath and that she was recovering from it. She said, "oh she did an amazing job, and if you need a make up artist, she is excellent." I immediately jumped at the opportunity and asked for Lilly's business card. I researched Lilly and saw her website and excellent reviews and got scared. There's no way she's still available and she will probably cost me a fortune. The money didn't matter at this point though, I was desperate, so I called. Somehow, however, she was still available. I had a trial with her the next day as she was leaving town and booked her right after the trial as I absolutely LOVED her work. My mother in law also had a trial with her and liked her work so she was happy. On the day of the wedding, she traveled to us from NJ to Queens and did my make up, three bridesmaids, and the mother of the groom. She worked efficiently and everyone's faces looked beautiful for the wedding. Everybody was on time so we stuck to the schedule and nobody was late for the ceremony. Also, it turns out Lilly was not super out of the budget after all, her costs are very fair for the quality of her work. Oh, and she's a lot of fun to have around! Highly recommend! read more

I am disgusted by the unprofessional manner at which Lillian Rivera conducts herself. I booked services for my week long wedding with her in dec of 2014. Her assistant Karen worked with me and was fine. However dealing with Lillian was AWFUL. She was rude, brash and abrasive through the entire process. She also ensures you only see FAKE reviews of her online and is misleading to her clients. Also, all of the hard work her staff puts in, she claims credit for! Ridiculous! Stay far away. There are far better makeup artists within the NY/metro area. Also take a peak at the 5 star reviews. Sound similar to each other, eh? Such a shock. read more

Lilly did a beautiful job on makeup for my daughter's wedding. The bridal party was a diverse group of young women, from natural blondes to African Americans, and Lilly created besutiful results with everyone. She was punctual, patient, and pleasant. Because of photos etc we were under time pressure, and Lilly made a lovely group of girls look even more polished and elegant. She clearly knows her craft.
