I was actually quite surprised that I hadn't been here before as it is absolutely the vibe I am looking for in a weekend brewery. The space itself is intimate, fairly small but utilized well. Bench tables and bar seating with a TV, fake fireplace, and a throwback arcade game. The bartender was so friendly and welcoming. Dark but not in a pretentious way. When we went on a Saturday afternoon, it was essentially just us and a few isolated people at the bar. We played a board game we had brought and had a great time. The beers themselves were not my favorite. There is a good variety and the prices are super agreeable, but I wasn't really thrilled by any of the IPA choices specifically. Probably just me. My biggest gripe with the place, however, is the music. I appreciate that this is super dependent on who is working but for a darkly lit brewery, I wouldn't have chosen the classic/elevator/slow music that was playing overhead. Parking is super easy. Also, I am very curious in their connection to the leather making studio next door and would be interested in the pop-ups that happen here once monthly! read more

Food: You can bring your own treats to pair with their beer. I recommend buying a pie down the block at Houdini Pizza Laboratory; they make delicious food fire pizzas. They also sell soft pretzels for $3 if you're looking for something lighter. Brew: This place is your definition for mom and pop shop. I love the craftsmanship the owner put into this place and of course his beer. In this garage/warehouse space he built the tables and chairs, recycled milk tanks to ferment the beers, and has everything set up in the back behind a low-key gate for you to see the magic happen. So rustic and DYI feel you got to appreciate what this place is doing for the craft beer movement. They have a great selection beers and 3 Kombucha options for their non-alcoholic guest. You can do flights, pints, and growlers here. All the beers were not heavy on the palate I feel they all range between 55 - 60 on the ABV scale. Bridge and Tunnel Brewery is a Queens based nano-scale micro-brewery, launched by brewer/proprietor: Rich Castagna. At the present time, the brewery is operating as a one-man brewing operation, with the help from Rich's wife Lisa with the various additional tasks necessary to keep a brewery afloat. Rich has been brewing for over 10 years, and enjoys brewing and drinking darker beers, and beers with a flavorful kick. So the current line leans toward beers that are colorful in the glass (as well as on the palate). Rich was born and raised in Western Queens, and spent most of his life in the New York area short of about 8 years living and traveling around the U.S. and overseas. Over the past 15 years, he's lived in the Ridgewood/Bushwick area, Long Island City, Astoria, and Maspeth. He has 3 kids, 3 cats, a dog, a fish, a large amount of brewing equipment, and a very patient wife. Great beer and awesome atmosphere. If you're a fan of craft beer, 100% hit this spot up!

Need to escape the island? Maybe the Burroughs? Well there's two options: bridges or tunnels (I guess a boat works too). But really that has nothing to do with this review (I just wanted some cool transition). I guess I could've said "I didn't even take a bridge or a tunnel to get to Bridge and Tunnel Brewery." Just a few hops, a skip, and maybe a jump away and I found myself in Ridgewood, Queens with my buddy and sis, ready to partake in some brews. If you don't keep your eyes peeled, you might miss B&T. Look for the red garage-esque doors and maybe some people sitting at a table towards the front, beer in hand. Parking can be an adventure, but you'll find something. Once inside, it's super chill. Dimly lit with Christmas lights and a few other hanging oddities making up your ability to see. Picnic tables and barrels are your seating selections with many spots having something on the table to entertain you (more on that in a sec). First off is the beer. Flights please! A truly eclectic selection with probably something for everyone. I mean they have kombucha and root beer if you just don't like anything else (though you'd be missing out). It was tough to choose, but I ended up with their summer raspberry tart, chipotle porter, Belgian fermented amber ale, and the vanilla porter. The tart says it all in the name, and the flavor matches so good job there. The chipotle porter had an interesting spice to it while still keeping some notes of a porter style. The amber was decent, basically doing what it should. As for the vanilla porter, I was ever so slightly let down by the taste. Expecting a creamier flavor, it went more towards watery. I did also sample the milk and oatmeal stout (which totally hit well on the palate) and the Berliner porter (a semi-odd yet satisfyingly creamy sour concoction). While sipping our suds, that aforementioned entertainment option is none other than the classic game of Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots. They actually have a tournament at Bridge and Tunnel for someone to make claim of the right to call themselves the Rock 'Em Sock 'Em champ. Between that and the pretty decent beers I was around a 3.5/4 on the Yelp stars...until I interacted with the guy behind the bar. I was looking to purchase a sticker and he just couldn't find any. He searched everywhere, asked another employee, and even texted the owner (never got a response, unfortunately). No sticker was found, but I gave him credit for looking. While waiting I figured one more taste of something wouldn't help and realized I hadn't tapped into any IPAs. I asked this chill chap for a 5oz pour of "Get In, Shut Up, Hold On." That's a beer with three names and honestly one of the best IPAs I've tasted. On the hazy/cloudier side with a great balance of bitterness. Superb. Overall, Bridge and Tunnel Brewery is a quintessential Burroughs beer stop. That last interaction and IPA solidified a fourth star (almost five!) and made this a brewery I'd totally want to return to sooner than later (hey, I didn't try the kombucha or root beer either). Throw this place in with Finback and you've got yourself a great brewery day, and you may not even need to cross a bridge. read more

The mug club that Bridge and Tunnel runs is something not seen frequently anymore in other breweries and bars. It allows you to meet new people from the neighborhood and make new friends. Cool place with very good beers. I brought my beer club here and there were 36 of us and everyone had a nice time. The bartenders were friendly and were happy to explain any of the beers to you. They have beer flights, which is nice, because you can sample several beers before you commit (although some of the beers were pouring verrryyy slowwwlly when I was there so even filling up a small glass took some time, which led to backups for people waiting to get beers). There was nothing I didn't like, but their brown ale and the saison (not the dark one) stood out as exceptional beers. This place is very close to the L train, not even a five minute walk from the Halsey stop and although they don't serve food other than pretzels, most people who wanted something to munch on went down the block and brought back pizza or calzones. You can really taste the quality of this beer and I hope to see it distributed and sold in some of my local haunts but in the meantime, it's definitely worth a trip out to Ridgewood. I got there in 33 minutes from my place in midtown on a Sunday so it's an easy journey. read more

My friends and I stumbled into B&T Brewery one Sunday AM, and it was really chill. It had a great neighborhood feel and top-notch beers. All 12 beers on tap are brewed right there, and the bartender was generous with the tastings. The group at the brewery definitely included locals who appreciate beer, but there weren't any obnoxious "aficionados." I really loved their ginger IPA, which had a nice balance of ginger with hops, as well as the Hazel Eyes, which had a sweetness and nuttiness. I liked the cave-like feeling inside, as the space is much larger but without windows, than it may seem from the outside. Covid 19 Review I ordered online and received a text message telling me when my order was ready for pickup. The brewery is on an industrial side street surrounded by graffiti fill-ins. I rolled up to the storefront and they handed me a brown paper bag with two 4 packs of cold craft beer and a few stickers. I could see they had a list of other beers available for take away, their website says to call for the daily offerings. Now as far as the beers, I tried a Sour Brett IPA, it was very drinkable and quite sour. However not quite as refreshing as some of the other sours I have had. Also had a Habanero IPA, which was slightly spicy and a decent beer although it wasn't very hoppy. read more

Upon returning the following day to pay the tab and retrieve my card, I found out that I was charged a 30% fee and the bartender signed my name on the card for me. This is totally unreasonable and inappropriate. Upon speaking, with the bartender the following day, he just said then don't leave your card if you don't want to get charged some random amount extra. Spent some time at Bridge And Tunnel Brewery on Saturday evening. An odd brewery that is weird but fun. However, they need to find a bit more consistency with their beers in order to standout from their neighborhood competition. Quality: Bridge And Tunnel Brewery had a fun beer list with some creative ideas, but they were very hit or miss. We ended up trying nine different selections from the menu including: Nitro OL Gilmartin Milk & Oatmeal Stout, Bone Orchard Vanilla Porter, Tiger Eyes Hazelnut Brown Ale, Berliner Weisse, Surf Varanasi Chai Milk Stout, Our Own Dry Hard Cider, "Get In, Shut Up, Hold On" New York IPA, Pickin Up Change Chipotle Porter, Alt Side Flogging Wild Sour, and Fear City Barleywine. Highlights were the smooth and savory Nitro OL GIlmartin Milk & Oatmeal Stout and the flavorful Fear City Barleywine. I would skip out on the Berliner Weisse, even with the syrup flavors, and the disappointing Pickin Up Change Chipotle Porter. With variety comes occasional misses, but this menu had too many. Quantity: Flights come with four 5oz Taster Pours. Value: $9 for a Flight. $3 for a 5oz Taster Pour. Ambiance: Bridge And Tunnel Brewery is located in the Ridgewood area of Queens. It sits in an old warehouse, but the taproom only makes up a small portion of the space. A long narrow hallway leads you in, which seemed like a poor design. Then you have a small bar in the corner and the remaining area packed with tables and chairs. Every bit of space is used, making it feel a bit closed in. Towards the center they had a small fake fireplace, that gave off some heat. They had stacks of games in the corner, but most appeared broken or missing key pieces. From a projector near the bar they played random youtube videos on mute with early 2000s emo music over the speakers. Just a strange assortment of items with no obvious fit. Crowd: A nice crowd on Saturday evening. The brewery was busy, but there were still enough seats for everyone. It is also dog friendly, though the smaller space means it is not for every dog. Ode to the brewery that stole my heart. I'm never disappointed when I walk in. The beer is amazing and very unique compared to the other craft breweries around. The beer really vary in style and feature unique ingredients. There's a yummy IPA that is made with NYC baked bagels! There is also a very yummy kombucha, barley wine, and cider! It is all made in-house by master brewer Rich Costagna. He not only built the beer but he built the gear and the whole place! Super awesome guy! The atmosphere is very welcoming, warm, and homey. No matter the crowd size, I feel like I can strike up witty banter at the bar with just about everybody. I may not like everything on tap but my God, there is always something amazing for me drink. Back in the day, in the boroughs outside of Manhattan, before the gentrifying influences of the moneyed and ones with idle free time have slowly started turning the outer boroughs into a playground for IG kiddies to snap photos of cheese pulls and rainbow colored foods, we denizens were derogatorily referred to as "Bridge and Tunnel" by Manhattanites. We were the "unsophisticated" masses, traveling over B&Ts into "the city" and often shunned by the trendy, hot-spots. Interestingly, Brewer/Proprietor and Queens native Rich Castagna, has chosen to reclaim the term with his brewery stating on his website "it's the bridges and tunnels that unite this city, not divide it.". Obviously a labor of love, with his DIY ethos and passion for creating adventurous, delicious beers. There is a rotation of up to 16 taps here, but on my visit there were 11 and I was able to sample nearly all. Rich is a fan of dark beers such as porters and stouts, which is where he really shines. His selections include a Newtown Creek Oyster Stout, Bone Orchard - Vanilla Porter, and a chipotle porter. He also had a delicious coffee cream ale, which I expected to be dark brown like coffee, but was more towards the look and taste of cream soda - brilliant! He even had a couple of sours, one being a "one off" SOUR STOUT, something I haven't personally tried elsewhere and after talking with Rich I found out he experimented a bit to save a stout batch not going in the way he expected - brewing like a master improv Jazz musician! The Fear City oak aged Barley wine was simply fantastic, well developed with massively good whiskey like flavors clocking in at 12% ABV! Flights are 4 for $8, pints for $5 and you can also get smaller pours for less - a bargain in a city not typically know for any! The brewery equipment is visible through a chain link fence in the back. Plenty of picnic tables, chairs and of course a handsome, wood L-shaped bar which was all built by hand by Rich himself (along with help of some friends). For food, pretzels and Gypsy Baking Co. pies were available, but you may want to bring your own food to have with these fantastic beers. Even if you need to take a bridge or tunnel to get here, I highly suggest you do so because your travels will be rewarded with a great space to spend some time, cool people to hang out with and of course some of the best beers being brewed in all the five boroughs in the city of New York! read more

Came with a beer ticket from the Queens Beer Book. Their beer selection is highly impressive and very affordable! Most 16oz beers are only $5! It's also pretty cool how they have Nitro and CO2 pours. They have cute little games stationed at every table and free popcorn at the bar. When we got there, the first beer I had was the Lobstah Lobster red ale on Nitro pour. Now, this was probably all in my head but I could have sworn I tasted some fishiness in there. Either way, it was delicious! After that, I had their magnificent $8 beer flight which consisted of the CO2 version of the Lobster red ale, the Sour Porter with Cherries, the Berliner Weisse and the Belgian Golden Ale. While they were all delicious, the Belgian Golden Ale won me over. It was amazing!! Our bartender, Evan, was extremely attentive and pleasant. I remember the location more than the beer. It was odd walking here from the subway. There was a burned out car about a block away. Let's say this neighborhood is on the rise... the beer was alright, they had some games. It was dark inside, like a garage with the door open. The staff were friendly and the logo was cool. Bridge and tunnel is close to home. It's a hidden gem with delicious brew. It's family run and you'll often catch the owner talking to customers while his wife helps out at the bar and his daughter hang out. It's a real special place where you can bring your dog and feel like you're in someone's awesome fully beer stocked basement. The pints are super affordable and there's usually an event happening in the near future. This place gives such a homey vibe with a cute fireplace and rocking chair right in the middle that the owner made himself ! Love it here. The beer is so damn good, so is the cider. Holy crap. I'm from Boulder, CO visiting some family in Queens. Rich knows what he is doing. A lot of the the craft brews in the area are all flash and show. Every single beer I tried (the whole menu) was incredibly balanced. Rich spent 10 years home brewing following by 3 years of wholesaling 9 kegs at a time. Now he has expanded and all of Queens and Brooklyn is better for it. Great vibes, great beers, awesome service. This place is just real. read more

I visited this Thanksgiving weekend and enjoyed 2 unique beers - Bone Orchard Vanilla Porter and Phoenix on Starr IPA containing hot pepper, which was both tasty and interesting. My husband had kombucha which he loved. The place has a very laid back feel, with wooden benches, barrels and a dentist chair for furniture. There's some cool stained glass above the bar area, which is pretty small. They serve popcorn and pretzels as snacks and you can order from the pizzeria next door if you like. 3.5 stars... Bridge and Tunnel Brewery started as a nano brewery in Maspeth a couple miles away a few years ago but has expanded operations and is now a proper micro brewery here in Ridgewood with a decent sized tap room for about a year or so now. It's truly a mom and pop type of brewery and you can tell that the emphasis is truly on making beer and less on making a clean and polished tap room space. I don't mind the grungy total dive vibe of the place but it could use a little more sprucing up. The free popcorn is a nice touch but keeping them out in communal baskets on the bar and tables is a bit gross and it gets stale quickly that way. I'll give the bartender a break because it was literally his first day but I think he could have used a bit more training before taking charge on his own. As for the beer they had nearly a dozen beers on tap when we were there. The variety of types and flavors were great. My wife and I of course tried them all except for two options they make that are only 1.5% abv for obvious reasons (really, what's the point of that?). Pints are $5, and flights are $8 for 4 beers. We agreed that the Bone Orchard Vanilla Porter (6% abv) was our favorite, a close second for me was their Tiger Eyes Hazelnut Brown Ale (5.8%abv). Their most interesting beer but unfortunately our least favorite was the Phoenix On Starr Habenero IPA (6%) which had none of the flavor of a hot pepper but with all the heat, truly a weird sensation. Though I wasn't a fan of that one I can certainly appreciate the creativity behind it, something I've only really seen from Big aLICe brewery. Their location is certainly off the beaten path so I'm doubtful I'll be making it back anytime soon but I certainly enjoyed what they're doing there and wish them the best going forward. read more
