Stopped at Pierogi Boys for lunch after reading about founders Krzysztof Poluchowicz and Andrzej Kinczyk, life and business partners who started the business as a stall in Dekalb Market. The interior evoked elements of interwar and Communist-era Poland. The wooden booths, bar stools, glass paneling, and light fixtures created a homey yet bright atmosphere, and even the bathroom carried through the historic aesthetic. The plates were also done in a traditional Polish pottery style. Given the name of the establishment, we had to try the pierogi. Aside from the meat (z mięsem) and sauerkraut & mushroom (z kapustą i grzybami), there were also potato & cheese (ruskie), ranging from $14-$16 for lunch. Each order came with six pierogi and were filling enough that we had some leftover to bring home. The pierogi z kapustą i grzybami were traditional, with a filling that had nice flavor and texture, though I think they could have used a bit less dill on top. The pierogi z mięsem were more non-traditional, incorporating beef cheek alongside pork. These were also very good, with tender meat. We also ordered the pickled cucumbers, onions, and mushrooms (kiszonki), which provided a nice contrast in both texture and flavor to the pierogi. The menu included inventive cocktails incorporating Polish flavors like apple cake (szarlotka) and beet (burak). I'd come back for dinner to try both the cocktails and the more extensive evening menu. Aside from the restaurant, there is also a market in the space. Most of the inventory consisted of assorted non-perishables like sauces and jams from across the US, with less of a focus on Polish products than traditional "polskie sklepy" around Ridgewood. There was also a deli counter, though it was fairly limited. I had planned on buying Polish herbal tea, but the tea selection consisted of only a few black teas. The coffee selection was larger, though mostly brands you'd find in any supermarket. Overall, a welcome addition to Ridgewood that both keeps Polish culture alive and feels fresh and contemporary. read more

3.5 I enjoyed the pierogi here and the latkes. I'm not a fan of dill generally (bad polish girl here!) but they really add a TON to every single dish, which I found excessive. I'd skip the bread appetizer, but the pierogi are a good size. Everything is definitely more expensive than I'm used to for Polish food but definitely a solid spot. Stopped by before a show nearby. Parking wasn't bad on a weekday evening. The weather was nice so they had the doors open and some people opted to sit outside. I opted to sit in. It is a little tight inside but not bad when everyone is seated spaced out. Service was very friendly. The Kompot has a nice balance of rhubarb, apple and plum. Rhubarb is the prominent flavor with the added sweetness of apple and the tartness of the plum. A very refreshing drink. The Cucumbers had a great pickle, with a generous amount of farmer's cheese and walnuts. The cucumbers had a good bite to them. The buckwheat honey added a hint of sweetness and earthiness. The Ukranian Borscht with Sourdough Bread had well cooked chunks of beets. The Sourdough Bread is a good addition for soaking up the broth (and the sauces of other dishes). The Potato and Cheese Pierogi were decent sized with a load of potato and cheese inside. The caramelized onions add good flavor. Definitely a well made classic. The Lazy Dumpling, was ordered upon the recommendation of someone who just finished eating, and wow I'm glad he recommended it. Al dente dough soaking up all that cremini mushroom flavor. It was a bit heavy for me because of the cream (curse my lactose intolerance) but the pickles help cut that richness. The Homemade Beet and Vanilla Bean Ice Cream comes in a chilled glass! It had a really rich vanilla bean flavor mixed with the sweetness of the beet. Definitely a spot to hit when I'm craving Ukranian food. read more

I loved everything except I was not a huge fan of the meat pierogies. The potato pancakes were amazing with the sour cream. I didn't really like the fish spread It came with. The meat pierogis were good, but not amazing. I would want to try the other ones next time. The pork schnitzel, and endive salad were was amazing. I would highly recommend everyone get that. The service was good however we never got any serving utensils with our dishes, which was a little strange. It was pretty crowded and loud. There are no reservations but the wait for two ppl on a Friday at 7:15 PM was about 15 minutes, so not too bad. The total was a bit jarring. I think we each paid about $55 including tip. read more

What a charming little place. The staff is warm and lovely, we arrived for a late lunch. I started off with a lovely vodka based cocktail, that was so light and refreshing, however the name escapes me. Started off with the pickles; I'm not into pickles like my husband is, so he loved them. The dish included pickled cucumbers, red pearl onions and mushrooms. All were well done. We ordered the White Borscht to share and they kindly served it to us in 2 bowls. This blew me away, it was fantastic. Loaded with flavor and garnished with soft boiled egg and the most delicious kielbasa. I could have easily eaten the full serving myself. Be sure to add on the sourdough bread to accompany the soup so you can sop up every last bite. The potato pierogis served with perfectly caramelized onions and chives; we also added bacon and sour cream at the suggestion of the waiter, which was spot on. They were excellent. The Sauerkraut & Mushroom Pierogi were topped with a unctuous mushroom gravy and garnished with dill were also wonderful. Their sauerkraut is so tangy, unlike any I've had before. These pierogis are rich. A lovely spot for some good Polish food and ambiance. Be sure to check out the market after you eat, they have loads of wonderful items in there. read more

Finally, a neighborhood Polish restaurant!!! No more traveling to Greenpoint. I was genuinely surprised it popped up out of nowhere. We started with the pickles appetizer, which included dill pickles, pickled tomatoes, and mushrooms. Great start. Our waitress recommended the sauerkraut with mushrooms pierogis with cubed Polish bacon and WOW! I'm usually not a sauerkraut person, but paired with the mushrooms it was incredible! I ordered the duck leg. It was slightly dry, but still flavorful. What really stood out was the sauce and the Silesian dumplings it came with. Those potato dumplings were the highlight for me. They're unique, lightly sweet, and absolutely delicious. It was my first time trying them and I loved them. The white kielbasa was perfectly grilled, juicy, and full of flavor. Another win. This is a MUST order: the homemade beet ice cream. You can't find this anywhere else! It's incredibly fresh, balanced, and not overpowering at all. So good!!! For drinks, we had a latte and a chai. Both were flavorful and well-made, though they could have been served a bit warmer. The food really shines here. Each dish felt intentional and comforting in its own way. The latkes were nicely crisped and golden, the pierogies were hearty and satisfying, and when we asked for extra gravy, the staff happily accommodated. The hot dog stood out with a great potato crisp topping, and the breakfast sandwich was especially enjoyable with fluffy eggs and a soft, fresh bun. Welcome to Ridgewood, Pierogi Boys! There's so much to love about this restaurant and the market. Let's start with the market! I love that it's open until 9pm. The variety is so great and I'm particularly a fan of the selection of potato chips and tinned fish. I simply can't have enough condiments and I'm excited to try the ones they have in stock. Now for the restaurant. The buildout is simple but beautiful. I love the stained glass and I wonder if it's original to the building somehow. I've dined in about three times and so far I've loved: - The beets: Thick cuts of beets make this a hearty salad to share. I'll never turn down a beet. - The deviled eggs (2 per order) are also one of my favorite dishes to share. - For the mains, I loved the kielbasa and the schnitzel. - From this location, I've tried the potato and cheese pierogi, which are served with sour cream, sautéed onions, and chives. In my mind, you just can't go wrong with this classic combination. - I also enjoyed the martini with dill pickle brine. It's so cloudy and I love my martinis heavy on the brine. This met the mark! As Pierogi Boys has gotten going, they've continued to have great service. Each time I've been there, a server or one of the owners has stopped by to check in and ask about the food and our experience. They have the best coffee! All their food is delicious, just like my grandma's house. I also love their deli. They sell many product can't find anywhere else like Tik Tock white rooibos tea which is Amazing and Chicago gardaniera ( if you know you know). So excited for the soft grand opening of the Pierogi Boys just 4 blocks away from me! I've been watching them build this place for the past few years. This is gonna be a great addition to the neighborhood. The entrance is right on the corner of Catalpa Avenue and Onderdonk. The B38 leaves you right at the corner with the Forest Avenue M train a few minutes away. The restaurant portion opens at 5. It was almost completely full when my party of 3 arrived at 5 on the dot. We got one of the last few tables. They have bar seating and a decent amount of tables/booths. Its a cozy space but they made the most of it. They have outdoor seating as well that will be opened once the soft opening is through. We were seated and immediately given water and menus by our friendly host/waitress. The menu is limited because its a soft opening but it will be turned into a full menu once the soft opening is complete. To be honest, even if they just stuck with the soft menu, I'd be totally happy and content! I saw the had the strawberry rhubarb cider from Hudson North Cider Co. on tap for $10 bucks so I tried that. That cider was DELICUOUS! Dry and crisp with a little subtle sweetness. So refreshing on a mild summer night. I had the Cold Beet Salad that came with plenty of dill and sunflower seeds, dressed with a Borscht vinaigrette. I didnt think the sunflower seed would work with the beets but they did! Tender, plump beets with a nice crunch from the seeds. Divine. I tried the Chilled Borscht that my mom ordered and it was so smooth and delicious. I could have downed that whole bowl myself. The 6 minute egg that was in there was so creamy and yum. I had the Sauerkraut and Mushroom pierogis. Got 6 for $14. These were the best pierogies that we've ever had! The caramelized onions they were bathed in made my taste buds dance. They were perfect. Filling, with a nice sharp bite from the sauerkraut. I was already thinking of my next visit as I was downing everything. They were so grateful to the customers. One of the owners came up and asked us how everything was and I was very pleased to tell him that it was all amazing. If you enjoy Polish food in a chill atmosphere, then the Pierogi Boys is for you! First, I must apologize for no pictures. Calling this place truly fantastic would be an insult. My party of 6 essentially ate everything on the menu. What a truly amazing meal. The cucumber salad, the beet salad, the deviled eggs, the radish and apple salad were textural flavor bombs. The white borscht was unique and so comforting. The kielbasa and schnitzel a triumph. Freezing cold night we happened to be in ridge wood - pierogies sounded like a good idea. We took our chances on this restaurant and I'm so glad we did. Best borscht I've ever tasted (vegetarian). Potato and cheese pierogies were perfect topped with fried onions and sour cream. Fantastic yummy cucumber salad with roasted walnuts and cheese. Also best mulled wine I've ever tried.
