Great place to hang out with friends or get some work done. Free WiFi too. Always a nice assortment of breakfast items and sandwiches. I thought of trying out this place to support a local, noncorporate coffeehouse. Unfortunately I was very disappointed. CONS: Environment: They are so stingy with the A/C in the summer or heat in the winter. My laptop overheated several times in just one hour. I know you aren't a rich company like starbucks but the sweaty heat soaking tshirts is inhumane. Service: I don't know if the owners just hired their friends or family because the service is unremarkable and cold, but it's always the same people. There is no warm smile or greeting, just a lack of energy from hipsters who think they are special little snowflakes because they don't work at a big chain coffeeshop. They just kind of take your order and dump your coffee on the counter. PROS: Coffee/Drinks: The only saving grace of this place is the actual coffee and drinks. They have pretty good taste and quality. I would give them 5 stars if this was the only consideration but ambiance is just as important when I'm paying for a $5 drink. read more

I am so excited that I was introduced to this great little place this afternoon! My friend took me out to lunch here this afternoon and everything was great. Friendly staff, comfortable surroundings, and amazing sandwiches! I ordered my usual whenever I go to sandwich places. Turkey, Swiss, mayo, lettuce, and pickles all on a wheat. I had no idea that this sandwich was going to be this good and was pleasantly surprised that it was toasted. yummmmmm!!! The best thing about this place is that it is not far from my school. You've got a busy blue collar neighborhood and a handful of fashion conscious, newspaper-toting types stopping in. The breakfast sandwiches, especially good on a jalepeno cheese bagel, come loaded with toppings. Get here early to snag a front window lofted table, looking out at maria's and pleasant house, where you should go after finishing your coffee. Since the significant turnover with the staff of BCC, it is no longer my preferred coffeeshop ): I still visit on occasion but they've been missing their menu for weeks now and I feel as though the quality of the drinks has generally decreased. In the last year, this place has gone way downhill. Getting a coffee is not just about getting a coffee, there should be some pleasant chat, a good morning maybe. It used to be like that here, but now there are all these annoying hipster bros who can't be bothered to do that, they're like "what do you want?" The food is terrible and they no longer bring it to your table. They just scream out an order and there is no way to know if it's yours. I ordered food at a time when there 6 other people there and when I didn't get up right away, they just screamed it louder. Then went back to standing around doing nothing after I got up to get it. I live right around the corner and I will be going out of my way to go to Jackalope or elsewhere just to avoid the rudeness. Best Americano in Chicago hands down. These people just get it right, every time. Service is friendly. The space is always clean (bathroom included). There is usually plenty of seating available. This is strictly a review for their management. I am a regular at Bridgeport coffee. I stop by at least twice a week to study since it is close by my house. Today, I stopped my with my friend to study for our exams and of course, I had to bring snacks with me. This blonde tall lady(her hair up to her shoulders) walks by three times and stares at us. By her third time, she said to us that "We love that you guys are here. But, are you guys planning to order anything?" Lady, no shit we are gonna order something. If I was a business owner, I will never walk up to their customers asking if they will order something or assume that they won't order because they have outside food. Probably my favorite Chicago coffee shop. Delicious coffee they roast themselves, friendly service, chill neighborhood atmosphere. However, do not go here if you need fast wifi. I don't have internet at home, so I go out to use the computer. This place has the best coffee and atmosphere, so I always end up here, always forgetting how slow their connection is, and always pulling out my teeth trying to load an image or download an email attachment. This is my first time coming here. It's a Sunday morning at 11, very busy, very sweet. There's no ac in here or maybe its because its 60 degrees outside today. But its really hot inside. Cafe au lait is very delicious. The staff members are nice. Wifi is super slow, I was on my phone and had to use my own internet. Great feel, neighborhood feel, and nice people, and everyone seems sincere and lots of smiles. Also seem dog friendly as there was a beautiful boxer right next to me. In addition the food is awesome. I heard about this place when I was at Whole Foods and they had a representative there demoing some of their coffee. Guy was really cool so I bought a bag. Brought it home and it was some of the best coffee I have made. After trying the home brew I wanted to make my way from the South Loop over to their coffee shop and see how it is done by a professional. Service: Super Friendly. The girls that work here are friendly and always smiling. When I ordered a pour over the one girl asked what kind of coffee. I said whatever you think will work best. She asked if I like "Medium Blend" I said yes and she suggested the "El Salvadorian...", I at least remembered the country. Never had a cup of Coffee this good: Took about 5-8 minutes or so which is normal. I have only had one other cup of coffee that was close and that was at Intelligentsia. I use a pour over at home and I don't know what I am doing wrong but it doesn't come close to the cup I had here. Great selection. Great job!!!!!! I also ordered a bagel to go with the coffee. Most coffee shop will just start making the bagel right away no matter what else you order with it. The other employee timed it perfectly so the bagel was done right when the coffee was finished so I had a hot bagel with my hot coffee. Love that. Bottom Line: Although there are some decent coffee shops around my place I will drive the 2.9 miles to Bridgeport to get my delicious coffee and friendly service. read more

Depending on one's proximity to the East or West coasts this concoction is a BlackEye, Hammerhead or occasionally a Shot-In-The-Dark. To the uninitiated (those who corrupts coffee with milk, sugar or additives of any kind) the Seattle chain stores are good enough. However, as anyone who truly appreciates a good vice will tell you, "good enough" is never good nor enough. I finally got around to trying Bridgeport this weekend and was extremely pleased. (Although the wifi wasn't working great.) Lots of people for a lively feel, but also plenty of seats available eventually. The one back room is quiet, too. Seemed to have a nice selection of sandwiches, though I didn't try any. The iced tea was nice and strong. Hard to explain what makes a coffee shop vibe good, but this place was what I have been looking for. (I am comparing mainly to the many coffee shops I got to know in Berkeley before I moved to Chicago.) I prefer this place to Wormhole Coffee up in Wicker Park. read more

Simply the best. Bridgeport Coffee Company is everything you want from your local cafe - a big spread of coffee drinks (I'll usually get a latte but a Cafe Vienna in the Chicago summer heat is exceptional), a few dozen varieties of tea, a daily soup and a smattering of sandwiches. The baristas are friendly and approachable, and there are enough locals that make the place feel homey but not so many that outsiders feel unwelcome. And of course I would be remiss if I failed to mention the lovely space - a beautiful old corner location with molded ceilings, white fairy lights accenting the floor-to-ceiling windows in the front, and Bridgeport-themed photos gracing the walls. I wish they were open later. I also wish they were a tiny bit less crowded (I guess my solution is just a polite ask to Northsiders to, you know, visit your own local cafes instead of trekking down ten miles to take up space in ours). But those are minor flaws, and the overall experience there is consistently delightful. You really couldn't ask for a better neighborhood cafe. read more
