My oral care isn't particularly complicated nor have I had serious issues, so it's focused on cleaning and periodontal care. However. This year; 2026, as many medical offices have done, the business end of the operation has been changed to a corporate billing center. It's a mess. They sent the billing to an insurance carrier we had not used for 2 years. I called this separate billing location about it 3 times; the last time, the nice young woman assured me it was all taken care of but today, after having received another bill (which, along with appointment reminders was sent for some reason to my husband, who is not a patient there but listed as an emergency contact) They sent a request for payment to my husband's phone number, but not to me. I had him send it to me. I followed the link where I was directed to enter my birthdate. Just as it had the previous time, it responded that my birthdate was incorrect. I called the Brier Creek office. Again. Asking the receptionist who answered about my account, I was told that my account shows that we have NO INSURANCE LISTED. WTH. At my last (and I do mean last) appointment, I stood right there and handed the (temp) office person the actual insurance card. I just placed another call to this anonymous bog corporate entity where a bot voice encouraged me to leave a message and they promised ( ! ) to get back to me within 2-3 days. As a dental practice, I've always felt confident in Stansell Dentistry. But the choice of business/ billing services that was chosen to handle the financial end is a mess. I hope that it doesn't ruin her business, because she doesn't deserve that.

What resulted was an accumulation of work that needed to be done on my teeth. Dr Kim and her Staff created a plan in March 2023 and had completed all work in May 2023. The work done was awesomely exemplary. Everyone was involved from the Front Admin Desk to the Hygienists to Dr Kim. What an exceptionally nice group of folks. They executed their duties in a professional manner and made me feel comfortable at each visit throughout the long process. What resulted was that I received my smile back! Others excelled at both dentistry and concern for their patients. Dr. Neuman is one of those extremely competent dentists who truly cares about her patients. She sets the tone in her office. All of her staff follow suit and care about her patients too. Dr. Neuman is state of the art. Her equipment and office are state of the art. And everything is spotless. I went to the Wainright & Wassel dental office on May 8, 2024 in hopes of having tooth 31…read morerecemented and tooth 5 evaluated for a crown. Three years ago Dr. Mark Wainright had recemented tooth 31 and in 2019 remade a crown for tooth 4.  Since I had had problems with both these teeth, I asked if I could have a price break for the upcoming work. I had done a Google search on crowns and was told they should last 3-5 years.  The crown on tooth 4 was a total waste of my money since it did not close the gap between my 3 & 4 teeth as I was told it would do.  Therefore I believed I had a legitimate cause to ask for a price break. I was seeing Dr. Matthew Wassel since Dr. Wainright had a long wait schedule. Instead of being willing to do my work, I was told that not only could they not recement tooth 31, but that I would also need a whole new crown due to some problem that did not make any sense to me.  The crown on 31 did not have a problem before and it was recemented.  I thought this was absurd and told them so.   For tooth 5, I was told I needed to have an X-ray.  When I said they had just done X-rays five months ago, I was then told they would need  pictures.  I disagreed with both and PLAINLY stated I was not paying for either.  I was then told they would need pictures and I agreed with the stipulation that it would be FREE!  I saw no need for pictures for the evaluation.  I had a mirror if I wanted to see the tooth and pictures were of no use to the dental office for evaluation purposes. I was then told they could place tooth 31, but with only temporary cement.  I told them this idea was insane.   Why would I want the tooth cemented on temporarily to then have to go to another dentist office and have them remove the crown to do it permanently? I left the office and went to see Dr. Christopher Powell later the same day, May 8, 2024 and he recemented the tooth permanently with no questions. There is probably the question as to why I did not complain about the crown on tooth 4 back when it happened?  Tooth 4 is a dental implant.  Doing more work on it could create even more problems.  I was trying to bend over backwards to be a "Nice Guy" in hopes I could stay in good relations with the dentist. My complaints to the dental board are: 1. Dr. Wainright told me he could close the gap between teeth 3 & 4 with a new crown and it did not. 2. Dr. Wassel refused to hear me, billing me for photos that were totally useless. 3. Dr. Wassel refused to hear my issues and instead tried to cover it up by stating that tooth 31 had a problem and needed to be remade. 4.  Dr. Wassel refused to hear my issues, refused to consider my complaints and instead penalized me with two behavior management charges.

I go every six months for my regular cleaning and I think they have only run late (more than 5 minutes) once. All the other times they have been very prompt. The front desk staff and dental hygienists are professional and friendly. Dr. Barker is usually very prompt with his exam and like his staff, very friendly. I've never had a bad experience with the dental hygienists and I have been with three different people. The only gripe I have is they have some strange billing practices related to insurance. It seems that my family either overpays or underpays, it's never right. I drive from Downtown Durham to North Raleigh just because I like this dentist. Here's to clean teeth!

After going to the ER, I booked an emergency dental appointment with Dr. Dewlet. He along w/his staff were so kind, patient and empathetic with me. They made sure I was comfortable during the appointment and constantly followed up with me after the apt. They are now my permanent dentist.

First they sent me a bill from an appointment that was 6 months prior for charges that I had no knowledge of - they backtracked and said they don't take my insurance anymore and I needed to pay it. No, that's not how this works! I paid what I was supposed to pay when I was there, they wanted even more after 6 months?!? The way I found out was when my daughter went for her appointment and they told her it would be somewhere around $100 for what we had been paying $0 previously. No notice! I told her to get back in her car and come home, do not go sit in that chair for your cleaning! The office staff had the audacity to tell me they would charge me for a no show if she didn't stay, somewhere around $100. I laughed, and told her that it is on them for not informing us of their change in accepting our insurance and to come find me for that missed appointment charge - please, come find me! That was the end of going there. It's a shame. I liked Dr Adams, he was nice. It's the lack of communication with the patients in which they lack that led me to find another provider. Touché

It turns out, multiple aspects of dental work by Dr Adams was incomplete and done very poorly. After years of an infection that broke into my sinuses, I went to see a specialist who immediately identified the poor work. He also knew exactly who did the work, as he has had to help other former patients of Dr Adams with similar issues. Thousands of dollars, multiple procedures, and multiple health issues later, I am back on track and healthy. As a side warning - over the years, I have posted about this experience on provider review sites. Those reviews, and others I would see about similar botched work by Dr Adams, have since been removed.
