I like Dr. Lloyd because she is nice, competent, and does not try to upsell every possible service like my last dentist did.

I have a dentist who is pretty unconcerned with my gum issues, but my gums are receding and I'm in a losing battle with my oral health so I called this office to inquire about being a patient and was told they wouldn't accept me without getting a referral from my dentist. I literally started crying on the phone and she could care less. Then I hopped on Yelp and see all their negative reviews and I guess I dodged a bullet here.

When I signed up for the appointment no one ever said "If you don't do the cleaning with Cavatron, you will only get a partial cleaning. The hygienist was also not very friendly at the start but was nicer as time went by. Not sure why this happened. Dr. Whitley sold me on a procedure to tighten up a larger gap which measured an 8. All my other teeth pockets were much better but he said my larger gap probably was due to the wisdom tooth removal many years ago. He said he thought he could get the gap as small as a 3. When the procedure was done, and I paid my bill, Dr. Whitley walked back his comment and said I might lose that tooth in the near future. I felt I was deceived by him. Finally, Teresa in billing kept filing my insurance incorrectly and it took months to get my claim. I kept telling her she was using the wrong address but I could tell she just did not care about my claim. They don't take insurance but as a courtesy will file your claim and I appreciate that. However, she just did not care and it showed in the extremely long time for me to get it. Overall terrible experience.

This update ONLY applies to Dr. Deliz-Guzman and his medical team…read more When I rebooked my surgery, I told Tarheel Perio I wanted a different surgeon. If there had been no one else available, I would have run away. Dr. D-G was the doctor I spoke to weeks before when he was the on-call doctor. He's the one who actually told me to start taking antibiotics before the procedure (first attempt). We decided that since my pain level was off the charts last time, this time it would be done under partial anesthesia. I 95% had a good experience with him and his team. Again, I was expected to sign forms I was given at the last possible moment. My general dentist explained that it's actually common practice!?!?! Apparently, this is done to save paper & ink, because so many procedures are cancelled. WTF? Deny patients essential medical and legal docs until minutes (no exaggeration) before being cut up in order to save paper! You know what else saves paper but ALSO is good patient care? Posting the docs on Tarheel Perio's website like other periodontists in the US do!! Patients can read vital information and ponder the risks at their leisure, ask the doctors questions if needed, etc. In signing papers last minute, I was accepting risks of complications I couldn't understand or pronounce. And like the first doctor, Dr. DG underplayed the pain/recovery aspect a bit. Maybe all his other patients WERE able to return to work the next day. It took me weeks. Maybe all his other patients DID feel as if the graft donor site was just like a bad too-hot-pizza & cheese-burn. To ME, it felt like I'd been sucking on a red-hot poker. That lasted quite a while. I was referring to Dr. DG below regarding how I didn't get post-op instructions until I was being wheeled out. My husband videotaped it just so I could watch it later. I was still out of it. Because he got info last minute, we had to pay way too much money for grocery delivery give me a variety of food to eat. We also had to borrow a blender last minute to purée everything. Or she'll out $60! With the exception of the shady 'environmental' practice of withholding patients' crucial info until the morning of, and the practice of giving post-op info verbally, post surgery - I did have a great experience with Dr.D-G. When I was going in for the procedure, he explained the equipment and what each thing would do. He covered what he and his staff would be doing. He made sure all my questions were answered. As they were injecting chemicals and hooking me up to strange equipment, he briefly covered again what it was & why it was important. Maybe this type of surgery is CALLED partial anesthesia, but I don't remember a thing! Fortunately. PRE & POST OP with Dr. DG: When my husband called with questions, they answered the phone or called back. Not a single auto text! After leaving the facility, patient care continued to be great. Even if the team was in surgery, a human answered phone calls and let you know how long it would be to hear from his team. This human accurately relayed messages, so the caller who contacted us later had answers, instead of asking us to go over everything again. I would like to thank Kiara, their surgery coordinator. She bent forwards, backwards and did cartwheels to get me what I needed. She responded to emails quickly. She got me info I needed afterwards. I actually sent her flowers afterwards because she was amazing. So to summarize- Tarheel Periodontics is a mixed bag. Dr. K and Rudy = bad. Dr. D-G = great. Dr. Kretchmer either didn't listen, didn't confirm or didn't believe I'm sensitive to pain. His surgical fumbling forced me to endure an excruciating experience, mentally and physically. At least Dr. K respected my wish to not be hugged, after he offered. Unlike his ginormous team member, Rudy, who came looming over me minutes later in the hall. Reaching for me with the wingspan of a B-52, forcing me to walk backwards, putting my hands and knee in front to guard me. After that encounter, I kept my back to the wall whenever he was around. Juuuust in case he wasn't listening to me turn down 'hugs' the second time, either. I appreciate Dr. D-G's team, who refrained from attempting inappropriate touching. TL;DR- Dr. DG and his team - (Yelp deleted my happy emojis) -AWESOME- WONDERFUL-WOULD ABSOLUTELY USE AGAIN Dr. K and assistant Rudy - I'd rather wear dentures than let them touch me (in any way) again. (Yelp also deleted my puking emojis)

I was referred to the Fuquay-Varina location by my general dentist for an 8mm periodontal pocket…read more What should have been a straightforward consultation turned into one of the worst medical experiences I've had. First, they insisted on running X-rays they already had from my referring dentist. Then the real pressure started. They would not let me leave the office without scheduling surgery and putting down a deposit. I was not given a treatment plan until I verbally agreed to "consider" the work. The quote was $10,000, insurance covered $2,500, and they expected the remaining $7,500 out of pocket with no write-off. I have a documented sound sensitivity and specifically asked about sedation options -- what would be used, would I feel anything. No one in the office could give me a clear answer. Despite this, they continued pushing me to commit on the spot. The pressure triggered an anxiety attack, and there was zero attempt to accommodate or de-escalate. After the visit, a staff member named Amber called to follow up despite my explicit request not to contact me by phone. She ignored my boundary and told me she would "follow up Friday" and repeated that I "need this." This practice prioritizes billing over patient care. If you're being referred here, get a second opinion first. I refused the deposit and I'm glad I did.

I just felt weird about it and each time I asked him if it was normal he said it was. He even told me at the six week post op appt to "don't worry about it don't look at it just leave it alone" and ever since then I had two dentists and one hygienist tell me that I need gum graft surgery, and when I told him I had it done they were each surprised.. so that was my first hint that I was right, and then they also pointed out things that he said "were fine" were not. I'm about to have the procedure again with a different periodontist that has made me feel like I am heard, not brushed off like a bug off on someone's shoulder. I walked into Adam's office knowing that I had at least three teeth on top that had recession but to my surprise, he only pointed out one so I went with it. This new doctor immediately pointed out the three on top without me saying anything. Long story short this taught me to always get a second opinion and to go with your gut.

First they sent me a bill from an appointment that was 6 months prior for charges that I had no knowledge of - they backtracked and said they don't take my insurance anymore and I needed to pay it. No, that's not how this works! I paid what I was supposed to pay when I was there, they wanted even more after 6 months?!? The way I found out was when my daughter went for her appointment and they told her it would be somewhere around $100 for what we had been paying $0 previously. No notice! I told her to get back in her car and come home, do not go sit in that chair for your cleaning! The office staff had the audacity to tell me they would charge me for a no show if she didn't stay, somewhere around $100. I laughed, and told her that it is on them for not informing us of their change in accepting our insurance and to come find me for that missed appointment charge - please, come find me! That was the end of going there. It's a shame. I liked Dr Adams, he was nice. It's the lack of communication with the patients in which they lack that led me to find another provider. Touché

It turns out, multiple aspects of dental work by Dr Adams was incomplete and done very poorly. After years of an infection that broke into my sinuses, I went to see a specialist who immediately identified the poor work. He also knew exactly who did the work, as he has had to help other former patients of Dr Adams with similar issues. Thousands of dollars, multiple procedures, and multiple health issues later, I am back on track and healthy. As a side warning - over the years, I have posted about this experience on provider review sites. Those reviews, and others I would see about similar botched work by Dr Adams, have since been removed.

Dr. Washington saved my teeth whereas other providers provided estimates from 15k to 25k to pull teeth and place implants. Again - Dr. Washington saved my teeth. As a long time patient, I can attest that the office staff are ALL amazing. Well trained, caring, concerned and they all go above and beyond in providing dental care. Katie, Ashley, Regina, Kelly, Carolyn, and the rest of the staff are so caring and supportive and go the extra mile to provide excellent service to patients. Katie T. helped me through a very difficult dental situation recently, for which I am most grateful. She is nothing short of outstanding. Severe dental issues can be scary. The dental assistants generously share their wealth of expertise so patients understand the issues, feel comfortable, know what to expect, and know how to best care for their dental issues outside the office. Dr. Washington himself is extremely kind, compassionate, and really looks out for his patients. He has seen me on an emergency basis on multiple occasions. He has gotten me in for emergency procedures. Dr. Washington is always concerned about his patients. He even had his office call and check on patients to make sure they were okay and see if they needed anything before the office closed three weeks for construction. (Ashley said they would have no electricity or water during construction.) Dr. Washington has his patient's best interests at heart. He will tell you the honest truth. His focus is to preserve teeth, with the most conservative approach possible. They have certainly been good to me and I am grateful for all they have done for me.
