After I got back from a vacation, the fridge was empty, and I needed to eat before I left for my volunteer work...so I went across the street to Brighton cafe for breakfast and was pleasantly suprised...the menu has changed a little, and the service is even better! This place has surprisingly good iced coffee. I sometimes crave a sweet flavored coffee and they offer a bunch! The breakfast is not too expensive and the vibe is small and cozy, usually seat yourself. The whole staff works together to make sure you're receiving good service and are attended to. Some of my favorite hash browns... haven't been in awhile, but at least they used to taste like old bay seasoning and grease, which in my book equals perfect hangover cure. This one could linger between 3 and 4 stars, but I'm feeling generous so "rounding" up. Considering there are no breakfast places in the area, they have the monopoly on that, and I've never been there for anything but breakfast fare. The service is usually fast unless they are busy, which happens on a weekend morning. The breakfast food is great for what it is, which is... diner greasy breakfast food, which I personally love. It's good food, the people who work there are very nice, definitely check it out if you are in the area one morning. I've lived down the street from the Brighton Cafe for 2 years now, and it's definitely in the normal weekend schedule! I honestly don't think the food is really THAT great, but it's so convienent and inexpensive. While the service may be slower than I'd like, everyone who works there is very accomodating and polite. Pretty standard diner-ish food. The french toast and salad were okay. They get two stars, though, because one time we tried to go in about 20 minutes before they were supposed to close, and they told us they were closed (and not politely or apologetically, either). I've stopped in here twice for iced coffee before work at my second job, today I got a breakfast sandwich and it was really good. Really inexpensive, as well. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is that I found a piece of eggshell in my sandwich (I have to eat things in small pieces because of having oral surgery not too long ago). This place is incredible. Think diner food, but it's so cheap and so delicious. Exactly what you need on a Saturday or Sunday morning. I come here all the time and will continue to do so. If you want cheap above all else come here. After reading my review of Allston Diner yesterday a friend suggested I try this place. My bill was half what it was the day before for the same food but my scrambled eggs had a strange consistency and tasted like they came from a box and I ran out of coffee and water twice and had to wait for refills. If it were busy I'd understand but there were few customers and a table of staff chattering in the back. But it gets 2 stars because it's cheap. read more

Love this spot in my neighborhood. The prices are SO reasonable, definitely the cheapest breakfast spot in the area, but also dependable and delicious. I usually get the bacon egg and cheese bagel sandwich which is great and so cheap, or the French toast. They have really great iced coffee compared to the other similar spots in the area. They don't have a full coffee bar though, no espresso at all. I love Brighton Cafe so much that I come anyways! read more

Just came here for breakfast, both of us got omelets. I got the the Greek, he got the veggie. Both were ok, nothing special. Service was fine, hash browns were a bit bland needed a little extra flavoring but other than that the price was hard to beat. $17 for both omelets, iced coffee and juice. I come here almost every weekend for breakfast. Service has gotten better and it's a pretty relaxed place so they won't rush you to leave or anything. I like the coffee here and the home fries are generally pretty good. I usually get a Sausage Egg and Cheese on a croissant with home fries and its pretty filling and under 7 dollars. Since this is on Commonwealth Ave. you get a lot of college kids from BC during the year and it can get pretty loud and packed. All in all it is a good breakfast place. read more

This diner looks mediocre at best from the outside but the food is delicious. The waitstaff didn't fully speak English but they were very kind and we didn't have any issues. I had a simple cheeseburger and fries and the burger was amazing. It was simple and juicy, and it was actually cooked to medium like I requested. The fries were simple run of the mill fries but I tossed them with a little salt and sugar and they were tasty too. My fiance got french toast and sausage, both were very good. The food prices aren't bad at all but you don't get free refills (and they will ask if you want a refill when you're only halfway through your drink). Also a bummer, they have Pepsi rather than coke. If you are a poor college student or recent poor college grad (as so many of us are here), you will love this place. They are most likely the cheapest breakfast you can get in the area, and everything I've had so far has been great. The people are really friendly as well, it's the perfect place to come for a nice diner-style breakfast after a long night. One time I got spaghetti at 8am. I usually go for their omelettes though as they are great and come with home fries/potatoes and some toast for like $6 or something crazy like that. read more

Pretty much what you'd expect - good, greasy diner food, friendly prices, and pretty speedy service. This morning's western omelette was ok, the rye toast was unfortunately pretty flavorless, but I really enjoyed their homefries. They were cooked just right, not raw or burnt like you sometimes get at diners. I will be back some Saturday AM in the future. read more
