You truly have a heart like Jesus, as He said, 'I have come to be a servant of all and show you the Father's love through my actions.' Your daily actions, such as always entering my home with a sweet greeting and a smile. No matter what may have occurred on your drive to work you never let it change your kindness and compassion towards me. Your daily respect for my autonomy and personal choices have been a great relief and blessing to me. Last year, 2025, was enormously difficult for me physically, emotionally and mentally. I was badly injured by a caregiver who really didn't want to be with me. She wanted to run my life instead of letting me make my own decisions. Everything was a struggle. I am still dealing with the pain and suffering from her carelessness almost a year later. You, however, are the complete opposite of that caregiver. You show genuine care, compassion and empathy to me. At the same time you keep a close watch on me for my episodes, for any unusual reactions, for changes in my body or mind that may indicate something physically is about to happen or something that is happening without my knowledge. Your daily care of me is exceptional. Everything from reading my body signs or noticing that I am in the middle of a call, task or just not ready. Yet, you come back or tell me it's getting late for something we have scheduled. This may be as simple as my breakfast or as important as helping me to get ready for my doctor appointments, my bloodwork or therapy. You encourage me to try many things that can help my health, mood or my outlook for the day. Such as, helping me relearn my Spanish while I help you with English, or walking around the house with my gait belt and walker. You keep me on top of my goals. These can be as basic as making my bed every time I get up (in the morning and after my nap). In fact, this helped me create and continue this habit. Another goal of mine is building my strength and stamina enough to walk around outside my home. This has not happened yet, as I have been primarily bed bound since February 19, 2025. You encourage my stretching in bed to keep my body as limber as possible. This helps reduce injury in case of a fall. My personal Internist, Dr. Fondren of Newport Beach certainly appreciates your encouragement and reminders to help me to regain the strength I have lost since February 2025. (when a different caregiver injured me). Once I have regained a little more endurance, then I can start physical therapy. Finally, my family has been at peace with you being my main caregiver and I love how well you and Gabbi work together caring for me. Just knowing how dependable you both are, how you communicate with each other changes, concerns and even my meal planning and cooking. My sister and my son (they both call me almost every day) are amazed that I finally have a team like you and Gabbi. I can't say enough complimentary things about Barbara West from Bright Star! Barbara is a gem of a person! She met my mom (who is 95 years old now) about 3 years ago when she was considering using Bright Star's services at the time, but ended up not needed her services yet. I kept Barbara's phone number because she had been so lovely, informative and helpful when she met my mom. About 4 months ago (almost 3 years later) I called her again because my mom was at a point where she needed more assistance. Barbara was so generous with her time and advice over the phone, and so helpful... giving me various phone numbers of people and services that might be able to help my mom in a number of different ways. One of the people she introduced me to was Tammi Podell, who was equally wonderful. Long story short, Tammi recommended that I check out Meadow Brook Senior Living in Agoura Hills, which I did, and I'm glad I did! It seemed perfect for my mom, with her needs at the time of 24 hour care. When I went to look at Meadow Brook, I instantly fell in love with it. Within a week or two, my mom moved in and is she currently happy and safely being looked after at that lovely facility. I will forever be grateful to Barbara for taking all the time that she did to educate me about all the different options that would make sense for me to consider for my mom, and I am so thankful that as a result of that phone call, my mom was able to find a place so perfect for her at this stage of her life. I used BrightStar's services for my parents prior to the pandemic and recently reconnected with them for my now widowed mom as they struck me as a very reputable & professional company. My mom, who now has advanced Alzheimer's, can be quite mercurial & difficult but still retains her inherent sweetness. As such, I was looking for a gentle, kind & very patient caregiver to supplement my mom's burgeoning support system. Brightstar delivered in Cherrlyn, who immediately put mom at ease, a minor miracle as mom is typically suspicious of strangers in the house. Cherrlyn has only been with us for a short time, but she is so sweet with mom and has an intuitive ability to curtail mom's ever-increasing anxieties & restless behaviors. In unguarded moments, I've caught Cherrlyn pampering mom with gentle massages and rubbing skin cream on her hands & legs and just simply holding her hand to lend physical & emotional support. She is a relatively quiet and unassuming presence in the best way possible (have had some rather...assertive caregivers in the past) but asks all the right questions and always exudes professionality. I can't say enough about BrightStar and my caregiver, Charistine, who has been with me for about nine months. Since day one, and every day after, she has been simply outstanding! I would not say that my caregiving needs are difficult, but I would say that for me to be physically and mentally comfortable, my caregiver must pay particular attention to the many details - Charistine does this every single time. Because of her my anxiety, and certainly my blood pressure too, has decreased immensely - gone are the days I wonder if my caregiver will show up, gone are the days when I wonder what mood they might be in, or if they are going to do a good job, and on and on. I sincerely thank her every time - she is far and away the best caregiver I've ever had! Also, during the holidays, a personal caregiver of mine (not affiliated with BrightStar) went out of town for about three weeks. Several weeks in advance, I notified BrightStar that he would be absent and asked them if they could provide a substitute for me. Despite the holidays, and everyone wanting time off - including of course their own caregivers - the good people at BrightStar made sure I did not go without care. I needed an in home nurse once a week while recovering from a chemotherapy overdose/bad reaction that caused so much damage to my digestive track that I could not digest food and needed TPN (nutrition via a nightly IV into a porta-cath in my chest). The visiting nurses who changed my pic line and took a blood sample were wonderful, skilled, and helpful. Their care, covered by insurance, allowed me to live at home during the 4.5 months of recovery until I could eat and digest a restricted but nutritious diet that could sustain my life. read more
