Was just okay. The hostess is super rude. She tried to sit three of us of this tiny little two person table and we said no we wanted to be comfortable and not squished and she responded super snarky but it's only a 36 person restaurant. We could see that the ppl at the four top table weee paying and we were trying to say we would wait and she was super rude and was basically like no you have to sit here. Finally, the owner came over and said yes of course we can help you he was very nice but seriously that hostess - I'm not sure why she's working there. I make much better French onion soup at home. I've been making it for years. I was very disappointed in theirs. I had the steak frites not very memorable and it was overcooked. Other people in my party thought their dishes were just OK but we agreed we've had better. Overall I wouldn't go back, which is a shame because I really wanted to support them . If the hostess hadn't been so rude and snarky I might give them a second chance, but just walking in she was so rude. Just based on her they pretty much lost my business ever again. Oh and the chairs are terrible they are so low and the tables are too high for the chairs. It was like I was sitting on the floor. Sadly, the food, the hostess, the chairs all made this a disappointing experience. read more

The food was incredible. Each dish was better than the last. We had every dessert on the menu.. The table side pistachio tiramisu disappeared in a flash. The service is impeccable and friendly. The food quality is excellent. The taste phenomenal. The visual presentation uniquely contemporary while presenting traditional elements. The choices chef makes to bring out the flavors of the ingredients were delightful, hearty, authentic and transparently layered. Kitchen seems relaxed yet time aware in getting dishes out. Servers also measured relaxed and seem happy, helping; chef, inspecting and tailoring each dish as one expects from the highest dining experience. Also, chef is constantly observing, monitoring, guiding, quietly. As seated, by a very nice young man, we felt as if the place was our own: "please sit where you wish (at the counter watching the kitchen, as all other tables were seated:) don't worry about gaps..." We were guided by the wait person, "B", from beginning to end. Based on an initial wine choice which we were also guided through, he set the stage for the food selection. The glass of wine was excellent. The tomato focused salad was fresh and provided a fruity contrast to subtle cheese and acidic tomatoes with a hint of honey to bring the elements together. Walking through each of the enticing entrées, our wait person suggested that with the wine, traditional beef dish is appropriate preferred option as a satisfying experience. B was not incorrect. What makes this dining experience seemingly unique is implied by the word Bistro in the name of the restaurant as that style of food found in its original context has a well grounded presents on the plate so, in deferring to something traditional, I felt I was honoring the cuisine: I considered more local or creative options as well yet, at my first seating, I felt like honoring our wait person and the journey B was taking us on, as well as an extension of chef's vision and mission. My dining partner enjoyed duck, supported by an architectural layering of rectangular platforms of perfectly prepared potato, the duck hovering, perched above. Someone came by considering my partner was finished. My partner's emphatic protection of his plate was a very strong indication of how much he was enjoying it. For dessert, it was a challenge: either it was a traditional tiramisu with pistachio or something very creative or in between. We chose an explosive chocolate experience enhanced with what seemed like a hazelnut ice cream scoop, and we were also honored with a dish which is challenging to describe as it was as it a cloud floating on a lake of warm pleasure enhanced with cashew, framed by a proportioned, contemporary, white asymmetrical vessel. My partner and I shared both dishes, taking great delight and having the opportunity as the contrast between the two was truly wonderful. The volcano of chocolate, the more traditional dish, pouring onto our plate, contrasted with such a creative, delicate flavorful, wondrous dessert with a meringue that was not like any meringue I have encountered - it was more like a soufflé of egg white sweetened delicately properly suspending the cashews above, inspiring how over time frequenting the Bistro will never fail in providing both familiar and new experiences with such a light and caring heart at the helm. The openness of the space, circular in form; high ceilings; regions separated by function, a lot seems to be happening from the kitchen to the front door, where chef greets each person with enthusiasm, joy, exuberance and friendship. Yet, once seated, the diner's experience prevails and sets the tone, mood and rhythm for a complete personal opportunity to share with a friend or loved one, uninterrupted, yet gently guided along with delight. read more

This is a situation where I don't really want to say how amazing it was because then it will be harder to get in...but I'm adulting, so....it's everything you love in a restaurant. Food? Let me just say, we followed the waiter's opinion on wine pairing: ridiculously perfect; appetizer special: I didn't know mushrooms could be so titillating; dessert...this is where I can only do my best to put it into words because I've lost about ten minutes of my life. I know that my friend and I stopped talking. That's not an easy feat for me. I know that every bite of this "island something in French" was better than the last...which is weird because they were exactly the same...meringue--a sensational cloud. I didn't know what angels' cushions tasted like, but now I do. Salted caramel sauce? I had to get a pedicure after because my toes arched so often against my shoe. Vanilla bean sauce--I don't know what word to use for this rich confection...but I'd gladly swim in it...cashews sprinkled on...well, they're cashews but who knew they could pair so delightfully? I've been talking about this dessert to strangers. It haunts my dreams. Staff--equally exquisite. I felt like we were old friends and it was my first time. The waiter cajoled me reminding me the fries weren't mine--silly, made me laugh. Mocked me for my evening desire for cappuccino, but not in the "I went to France and they were snooty" kind of way...had me laughing the whole time (my Italian family mocks me enough for that choice--only espresso after noon or something European, so I'm well-schooled on this erroneous choice.). All in all, I couldn't use complete sentences today because words left me and I left my body so frequently that evening. This place is a gem. The staff is warm and friendly. It's a perfect ten. Went to Sunday evening dinner at this newly opened (April 2) Bistro just off Petaluma Boulevard. They did a very nice job with renovations. Decor doesn't give off a French vibe, but it is very comfortable. They were busy, and people kept walking in, so reservations are highly recommended. Seating is available at two counters and mostly at 2 and 4 top tables. People were sitting on the grand piano bench while they waited for tables. I predict the piano will be jettisoned before very long for more tables. To start, we ordered a Humboldt Fog Goat Cheese Salad to share. For the main course, she ordered Halibut with fennel confit, roasted new potatoes and Bocuse sauce, and I ordered Beef Bourguignon. The beef was very well cooked, tender, and flavorable. It was on top of parsnip purée. This stew like dish was supposed to include baby carrotts and pearl onions, not one of either were in my serving. There were a few raw Beech Mushrooms set on top of the dish. We ordered sides of haricots verts and gratin dauphinois to share. The sides were excellent. Shirley was very happy with her Halibut dish. For dessert, we shared a chocolate fondant with sea salt caramel ice cream. Some fairly major quibbles are the basket of Della Fattoria bread, which was $7.00, were just small pieces of toasted bread instead of fresh bread from this wonderful bakery. There was no more than a teaspoon and a half of goat cheese on top of our salad. I thought in looking at our dishes and those around us, the chef needs to substantially up his attention to plating and presentation, all plates left a lot to be desired. Relative to service, timing was hit and miss, maybe not surprising for a new restaurant. For example, we ordered our meals and a table of 2 and a table of four sat down after we ordered, but they were finished with main courses before we were served. read more

Yet another wonderful dinner on 9/1/24! Really getting to love this place and we will certainly be regulars. My wife had the weekly special, sweetbreads, and I had the halibut in saffron beurre blanc. Both dishes were on-point and tastefully presented -- pictures below. Been here twice (first time, group of 5, second time just two people), and it's been amazing both times! The servers were super friendly of us (poked a bit of fun at us too), but they have been so awesome also in helping us pick out what to eat on the menu. Chef Nick is so friendly and it feels like you walk into his home kitchen with a big old hug from the whole staff. Such a great atmosphere. Every dish we've had here as been amazing as well. The best dining experience we've had in years. There were six in our group including 4 adults and 2 toddlers. We were immediately greeted with warm smiles. The head Chef approached us and set the tone for the evening by saying "Welcome home." It only got better from there. We had an absolutely fabulous experience on our recent visit. It was a busy Friday evening and there was a short wait to get seated but Nick, the fantastic Chef and owner provided us with delicious Champagne Cocktails and hugs until our table was ready. And then things really took off! The service and the food were exceptional ! So all these super cultured, world weary reviewers who have to let us know how much they have traveled and experienced ( ) should relax and take a breath and simply enjoy the sublimely beautiful experience Chef Nick has created. A new rare jewel in Sonoma County has arrived. The menu is innovative and fish forward which we loved. I'm pretty sure it's a family affair as the servers were constantly checking the vibe at our table. They were warm, friendly and ever present. Brigitte achieved perfection for us with all the courses. We shared the Salmon GravLax which came with a lovely piece of toasted brioche piled high with fresh cucumbers and soft cheese. The salmon itself was fresh and delectable. Husband Unit had the John Dory fish special which I'll post a picture of since it was so beautiful. The server showed us a picture of this dish before we ordered--which was clever. My friend and I ordered the Beef Bourguignon served over a parsnip puree and it was literally the best version of this I've ever had. Generous "non-tweezer food-like" portions too. We finished with a Floating Island dessert, such a rare offering these days. Yummy.The owners have done every possible thing they could to make this small space work, including some sound panels on the walls. It's decor is tasteful and modern. Do go early on a weekday if you want a more quiet experience since it was clear that the word is out about this place! read more

Visited this much anticipated and acclaimed new Petaluma hot spot tonight on a whim- no reservations but got seats at the bar easily. Greeted warmly by the owner and the server! Ambiance is simple but comfortable. Food was mixed- some highs and disappointments - started with rosemary fries which were tasty but not crispy and served with no dipping sauce which it could have used (aioli? Mustard? ) Moved onto the halibut entrée and vegetable pot- the halibut was delicious but slightly over cooked. We tried the Lyonnaise salad expecting the usual large lardons and frisee endive, but instead were served escarole with small pieces of the pork and a very runny egg. Perhaps it's a preference perspective, but my memories and love of this salad weren't satisfied by this version. Vegetable pot was forgettable. In lieu of dessert, we ordered more food including sausage brioche - too much bread and needs much more sausage but tasty, and the best bite of the night - potatoes dauphinois- a crazy good scalloped potatoes side. The wine was superb and service was excellent. We will try it again. Currently feeling like the accolades are a bit too much for the reality of the restaurant. read more

I'm a Bay Area native and resident of Sonoma county for the past 2 years and Brigitte is hands down the best French I've ever had anywhere and certainly the best dining experience I've had so far in Sonoma and Napa counties. My first (but not my last) meal here I tried the gravlax appetizer, the duck confit and the halibut - all the dishes were swoon-worthy but the halibut is not to be believed. The perfectly cooked fish and the delicately flavored saffron sauce was otherworldly, truly! Not many restaurants will veer away from locally produced wines but Brigitte has a nice list that includes thoughtful European options, all reasonably priced. The dining room is casual and small so definitely make an advance reservation. One minor improvement to make is larger plates for sharing - the bread-sized plates were easy to tip over when cutting into the dense bread that comes with the gravlax. Service was efficient and friendly although water and wine glasses went noticeably unfilled beyond the first pour - not a huge ding but still pretty basic table service. I had heard that the noise level was unbearable at times and held off going until learning the owner put in some sound proofing; I didn't find the noise level problematic the evening I went early at 5:30 just in case. Overall this is one of the most exciting new restaurants Petaluma has seen in awhile with so many delicious-sounding dishes to try - I will be back! read more

Great experience finding this little gem in Petaluma. Place was packed on a Thursday night. We were greeted with some bubbly while waited a short time for our party of 6, by the friendly owner who is from Carcassonne. The food was exceptional as was the wine. I chose the Boeuf Bourguignon which was melt-in-your-mouth tender, and rendered in a savory deep flavored sauce. The service was really beyond reproach, very personal and really vety friendly. Our waiter took the time to make my elderly mother feel special. Maybe our french background was an advantage as I was able to connect with the owner and head waiter in their native language, but no doubt we were treated with genuine care. There was a young man who played some piano and the general ambiance was casual, not stuffy . Like a bistro should be. Best new place in town! Went there twice already and plan on going back soon!!! First time we had the pâté en croûte , which was even better than some I had in France. We also had escargots, and I'm always hesitant but they were amazing with loads of garlic! Then the beef bourguignon which was absolutely divine, my husband had the country style vegetable pot, good but for a main entree and being a vegetarian dish, definitely not substantial enough. So hopefully they will increase the portion size for this particular dish. Second time I went I had the duck confit. Absolutely nailed it! Loved it. Friends had the beef bourguignon and the scallops gratinées. They were thrilled with their food. The staff is friendly, chef Nic is super nice. I was told by chef Stefan Saint Louis who is opening the restaurant Biju in downtown Petaluma as I write this review that the dishes at Brigitte Bistro were mediocre. Nevertheless I had to try it because I love French food. The staff is very friendly and the service is good the restaurant decor is pretty but effectively the food was mediocre including the desert. If you live in the Sonoma Valley you need to check this out. My wife and I really enjoyed our meal. We sat at the 2nd table to the left of the side entrance. We started with sparkling Limoux and sparkling rose with escargot, I had confit ( I asked for the best Rhone wine to go with) and Barbi had the chicken. Amazing! Lots of laughs and fun with the owner and staff. Food and cocktails were soooo good. I did have the Black cod and it was too salty. The owner, took it back and l as he should, "trusted but verified" and tasted the dish where I could see him. He winced in dismay, but returned and apologized as it was a true mistake. I refused a new order and asked that he keep it on the bill as I did eat half. He gave us a desert on the house to make up for it. I was so pleased at the experience despite the salt issue. I believe the correction has been made with the kitchen and have had several great meals since. read more

Another great meal, this time to celebrate New Year's Eve, at what has become one of our absolute favorite places in Petaluma. Chef Nick Ronan outdid himself again! Course 1 - blue fin tuna tartare with four kinds of eggs (tobiko/ salmon roe/trout roe/fried poached egg) and caviar, served with crusty sourdough bread from Della Fattoria. Course 2 - radicchio salad with sunchoke chips and Roquefort. Main course - filet mignon Rossini with duck mousse and copious amounts of French black truffles. No room for dessert! This is a delightful bistro where the food is phenomenal, and the staff is exceptional. We decided to visit Sonoma wine country for my birthday weekend, so we were unfamiliar with the area. We were delighted to find this gem of a place for dinner. From the appetizers, the table made steak tartar, the herb frites to the beef Bourgogne and the to-die-for chocolate dessert. It was a perfect ending to a terrific day. We sat at the bar, felt welcomed, and enjoyed all the staff's attention; every dish was on point, and I can't wait to visit again. If you live near Petaluma, put this place in your rotation, and if you are visiting the area, it's an excellent place for authentic French bistro meals. Thanks for the hugs, and thanks when leaving. We've been twice. The beef bourguignon is excellent, as is the duck confit, and the salmon and sorrel dish. The onion soup was too sweet for us so we asked for it to go (I didn't mention this) and the chef seemed really offended. We went back with friends and I was so disappointed the scallops were not available that night, so I ordered the black cod and oh, boy, was it delicious! We'll go back but our main complaint is the noise - sound absorbing panels are fairly cheap. Don't sit at the counter facing the cooking area if you can avoid it. All restaurants have quirks! French food is my go to for dining out and I was very happy with the food and the service. However, I will not be returning until they address the noise problem. It is so loud that you have to yell to be heard by the person you are sitting with. The open kitchen adds to it as well and I think the dishwasher was breaking more plates then cleaning. I was so excited to finally have a French restaurant back in town...please do something about the noise...it is too loud!! read more
