Our recent visit to Old Chicago Pizza in Petaluma. Its been on my list of must trys. Last Saturday was the day, its upstairs in a building, nice little restaurant. We were greeted and seated pretty quickly. The server got us drinks as soon as we sat down. It was quaint, and clean. Friendly atmosphere. We ordered a large Italian salad to share, and a large combination pizza. The salad was fresh and it was good. I love salad. Our pizza came pretty quickly and was delicious. The crust is thick. I knew it would be. I think I prefer a thin crust. Other than my preference the pizza was delicious from the stuffed crust to the delicious toppings and the sauce was perfect, not too much not too little. Dropped in recently on a Saturday night (pie day - 3/14!) when nothing else in Petaluma sounded interesting. So glad we did! Short wait - but service was on point. We had the Italian salad, garlic bread, and a medium deep dish pizza. Everything was super fresh! Salad was great - their blue cheese dressing was killer! Garlic bread was so hot we'd had to wait to divide it - and had enough garlic to keep the vampires at bay. Pizza was incredible and melty cheesy delight! Come hungry! Listen, this is a classic in Petaluma. Yes, it can take 30 min to get your order cooked, but it's worth it! My husband and I order a medium combination deep dish and we end up taking half of it home - pizza is still as good the next day. Don't bypass the Ranch! It's so good! Also, the salads are yummy too - good portions, sometimes i'll share my small salad. I recommend the Lisa Iskin Salad because it comes with lots of veggies. Staff is always friendly. The large windows make it a lively ambience. Parking can sometimes be tricky, especially if it's the weekend. read more

Amazing deep dish pizza in a historic building. I haven't been here since the early 90's and it's exactly how I remember it.

Went for lunch today with friends. Almost walked right past it. There is a sign pointing to the upper level but I missed it. Seriously great old architecture, big windows, exposed brick. Lots of character. Service was OK. Place was busy but not packed. The salads were good and were brought out quickly. Pizza's took longer naturally. The other 3 all got pizzas that they really enjoyed. A fun place to have lunch on a weekend. read more

I have enjoyed this spot in the past, but my visit on Monday night was really disappointing. The food did not live up to its usual standard. The ingredients did not seem to be the same high-quality as before, especially the sausage and the cheese. On top of that, the pizza crust seemed overdone, and the salads were nowhere near as good or as large as they used to be. The prices felt outrageous for what we actually received, especially for the salads. The only bright spot was the service--the staff was great and very attentive. Overall, it was a letdown, and it feels like the value just isn't there anymore. Maybe Monday isn't the night to go. read more

If you're looking for authentic deep-dish pizza, this is the place to go! While it's a bit on the pricier side, it's absolutely worth every bite. We ordered a medium 2-topping pizza and a medium 4-topping pizza, which came out to about $31-$34 each, depending on the toppings. The portions are HUGE--each slice is super filling (basically like eating two regular slices). They're also very generous with the toppings, so if you prefer lighter toppings, be sure to let them know when ordering. The deep-dish pizza is loaded with cheese, so if you're not a fan of extra cheesy pizza, keep that in mind. The service was excellent, the ambiance was cozy, and the food was a solid 10/10. Came in on a Friday around 6pm. We wanted to order a pizza to go. This restaurant is up two flights of stairs and is super cute. There is a small bar area and an open dining area with about 14 tables. And looks to be an area for large groups in the back. Ordered a medium deep dish two topping Chicago style with a small Italian salad with house Italian dressing. We were told it would be a 45 minute wait so we waited at the small bar area and had a beer and a "not your father's root beer" (very dangerous choice as it tasted like a craft root beer) when our pizza was ready Karen at the register told us and got our salad ready to go. Wowowowow....the pizza...well crafted. The sauce was rich and full of flavor and the toppings were generous. The cheese was overflowing with deliciousness. The medium is definitely more than needed by two people not looking for leftovers. A small would have been sufficient. The salad (small) was plenty for two. Definitely a place we will revisit for pizza when in the Petaluma area. We could only find street parking but it was great as we found a space just around the corner. read more

The pizza is one of the best I've had for a deep dish Chicago style; the flavors are the best! Had pepperoni with mushrooms and garlic. The crust is awesome to eat if you enjoy have fresh bread. One slice was generously filling. The cheese is REAL cheese that strings along. This restaurant is on the second floor of a historic building. This was my second time here from maybe 10 years ago-I'm glad the food is still high quality just like I had tasted before. read more

OK, this is a few days late. My apologies in Angelica. So my son and I had old Chicago pepperoni pizza of Petaluma for the first time a few nights ago we bought a medium, but I picked it up. It was so heavy and I thought this is not your normal traditional pizza. I got home and we opened the box. Wow amazed what an amazing pizza and old Chicago Pizza of Petaluma. They do an outstanding job making the pizza the portions, the placement, super hot the amount of the flavor and the amount of pizza sauce and cheese and pepperoni and cooked perfect As we both dug into our first slice with a knife and fork and usually I eat pizza with my hands, anyways just mouthwatering tasty After eating pulled over asked for a manager, I got Angelica. She's super nice. I told her about my experience from the time that I called in the genuine friendliness on the phone. I had a few questions being in a first time Customer placing my order was easy the quality and flavor of the food when I went to pick it up again very genuine friendliness with the cashier there was a gentleman in what I believe is a bar area and he was super helpful with the pick up. They use frustrated cheese and peppers and I shared all of this with her saying thank you in essence They just got two new customers and I told her I'd go on Yelp that night and I got sidetracked and it's been a few days but do yourself a favor. I went on this last Friday. Was having a terrible day so I thought I will go to Old Chicago as I did growing up for many years. It had been a good two years since I been here last. I went by myself and was sat right away as they were maybe half full in the restaurant. My server was a young man and he was very kind and helped with suggestions on which pizza to get. I ended up getting a pesto pizza with chicken, artichokes and mushrooms. It was so delicious! I brought some of my family home the rest of the pizza and they loved it. The one thing I will say was that the other server serving another table was talking extremely loud the entire time as if the other table were the only ones in the restaurant. Not sure if she even realized how loud she was talking but just seems a little obnoxious considering there were other people dining and no other table was being talked to like that. Located on the top floor above the Christmas shop, there were about 4 other tables when we arrived on a Monday night. We were debating on which size pizza to get and whether we wanted to grab any drinks or sides. The beers they had on tap were just IPAs , which didn't really intrigue me at that time. We ended up ordering 2 sangrias ($8/ per pint size over ice). We are both fans of sangria and surprisingly this one was pretty good. It was the Beso Del Sol Red Sangria topped with an orange slice. It is a tad on the sweeter side, but sangrias are usually sweeter anyways, plus the ice helped tone it down a little bit. I would order this again, and I even went online to see where you could purchase it and it seems like it is very limited just a few places :/ For the food, we ended getting a medium deep dish pizza with mushrooms, bell peppers, onion and sausage ($31.35). We were considering a small earlier but since we got sangrias we figured why not get a bigger pizza. The server did try to get us to consider getting an appetizer or salad since the deep dish was going to take 25 minutes but we were okay with just sipping on our drinks and waiting. When the pizza arrived we were ready to dig in! Before I could take a photo of the full pizza, the server already took the pizza server tool to help place our pizza slice on a plate. On the table there were the standard red pepper flakes, parmesan cheese, salt and pepper. She asked if we wanted any ranch on the side which I opted for. The side of Ranch was not listed on their menu so when she offered it I did not know they even had it. When the bill came, I did notice they charge $1 for each side of ranch so FYI there. The pizza was overflowing with all the toppings (I can see why they say try to limit to less toppings on their menu). When the server placed the slice on the plate, the cheese was being pulled all over, the sign of a good deep dish pizza. The pizza felt light and heavy at the same time. The toppings with the cheese made it heavy, but the pizza dough was lighter. The crust had the crunch but not so hard that it was difficult to bite down on. I may opt for one less topping next time in hopes of getting more mushroom on it :) Overall, we enjoyed our drinks and food and would definitely come back and dine again. This pizza joint is definitely a chill place to just come by and have a slice of pizza after a long day. Disclaimer: I'm not someone who likes deep dish pizza and my only experience with it is Zachary's and a famous pizza place in Chicago (sorry, I can't remember the name). Summary: I'd bring friends here. I recommend this place. Anyway with that said, I enjoyed my food. We ordered a garlic bread and a large deep dish - half Hawaiian (Canadian ham and pineapples) and the other half with bell pepper, mushrooms, olives, lots of pepperoni. I did not like the Hawaiian side - pineapples were good but what I did not like is the lack of meat (maybe my slice didn't have enough or it was probably just drowning from sauce) and over saturation of sauce. Overall, I did not think the pineapple was a good topping for that pizza. I didn't bother finishing that slice. On the other hand, I enjoyed the other half. For some reason, I did not have that over saturation of sauce issue. It was rather perfect! I could taste all the toppings and there was good amount of meat. Oh and did I mention already, that pizza was oozing mozzarella. Another issue that ruined the experience a little bit is the knife - mine was dull. So I had difficulty cutting my slice. It was difficult enough that my friend mentioned it to me at the end how he saw me struggling. (Note: I did not tell him about the knife, I thought I could work with it without looking helpless.) The garlic bread, I'd order it again. Soft and moist bread. Enough garlic. Warm. I would eat it with pasta. I had to control myself from eating it otherwise I would have been full by the time the pizza came. Our server is great! Sadly, I did not get her name. The only thing I'd recommend for all servers if this is not the practice already - is to inform especially new timers, as we informed her as our case, they charge for sauces like ranch, blue cheese, etc. Had I known that was the case, I would have informed her I don't need one. In fact we did not even finish one container, since I don't use ranch. Such a waste. A teabag is $3.50?! That's insane! Common! They offer beers and wine both white and red. The place is located on the second floor. Stairs are right outside Fantasia boutique. You won't miss the access to the stairs as it's by the walkway. Old chicago has the best deep dish in the bay area! I've tried a few other locations and will say without hesitation that this is the best. My friend and I came in on a Thursday evening. It was a bit busy, but we were quickly seated. We ordered a side salad (not pictured) and deep dish cheese pizza. We also got a few sides of ranch for our pizza. The salad came out pretty quickly and the vegetables tasted fresh and crispy. There was nothing special about the salad but it was a good appetizer for the cheesy pizza. The pizzas here take longer to bake, so don't come in expecting it to be ready right away. The tables have a holder for the pizza and there is a candle in the center to keep your pizza warm. The waitress serves you your first slice which is very sweet. Everything about the pizzas here is delicious! The crust is super flaky and not too thick. I've never had the crust here be undercooked or over cooked which deep dish is more prone to. The sauce is very flavorful and I find that it's slightly more chunky than at other places which i love. The cheese is stretchy, melty, and abundant. Their ranch tastes like it's made in house and pairs very well with the pizza! I definitely recommend stopping by! read more

I've actually been to Chicago and tried two random pizzerias in downtown Chicago, but none of them were even in great comparison to the pizza I had here in Petaluma!! Sad story, but true! I've always heard about how amazing "Chicago pizza" is and I love sauce, but both places I went to while in Chicago we're kind of bland. Maybe they switched chefs or something?! Anyways, this place was freaking amazing!! The server was incredibly friendly and helpful since I couldn't Decide what I wanted and I was able to change my order to make my half of the pizza a different version of the vegetarian since my boyfriend wanted a combo pizza with all the meat. Lol. The ambience is very dark and reminded me of an old fashion speakeasy, but I really liked the atmosphere. Everybody seem to be laughing and having a great time! I really like the old Timey windows and how old-fashioned the building itself is also!! I did find the restrooms down the hall, a bit scary, since the hallway reminded me of that one scene out of the shining, but my boyfriend walked with me just in case. Lol I've seen too many late-night movies! I will definitely be going back here again And I could only eat two pieces and I felt stuffed!! Had an early lunch with my son, and this place is just as phenomenal as the last time I was here, which was several years ago. I need to come here WAY MORE OFTEN!! A huge large size, 4 topping deep dish pizza, 2 fountain drinks, a small order of garlic bread and a Sierra Nevada for me, with tip, was $80. Considering that a few months ago, my son and I had lunch at a popular sushi restaurant in Rohnert Park that cost in the low-mid $70, I think Old Chicago is a WAY BETTER VALUE. We just moved here from Austin Texas. It is my husband's favorite pizza spot. It is definitely a commitment since the deep dish is no joke. I suggest going when you were hungry or bring many friends.
