Let me start by saying, I rarely give a 5 star rating unless truly exceptional in all facets. Brine gets a 4.5. Food was excellent. They pride themselves on fresh oysters and they are excellent. A bit pricey but worth it if you enjoy them as we do. I actually got into trouble because I ordered a second helping without looking at prices but they were great. I had the shrimp and grits. Excellent. My wife started with a salad ( she enjoyed) and finished with the fish. They have nice, short and reasonable priced wine list. The room is a little austere but comfortable in and outside. Very New Orleans vibe. Service god not great. This is where they lost the .5 when she disappeared for awhile. We will go back. read more

We went to Brine for a surprise date night and it did not disappoint. Starting off with a round of East Coast oysters, they were served with a delicious mignonette and horseradish. The service was great and attentive, with many different staff members table touching. I loved the hot honey Brussels sprouts, they had great crispy texture and the pomegranate seeds added a nice burst of flavor in each bite. The roasted beet and goat cheese salad was delicious and light, and paired amazingly with the clam chowder. For an entree, we split the oyster po boy which was amazing. Crispy, tangy and full of flavor it was a great sandwich to split between two people, and came with a large portion of fries. Can't wait to go back and try their 5-6P Bar Happy Hour! read more

Dined at Brine a few weekends ago. We started off with a few different oysters, all of which were very tasty. They were fresh and shucked nicely. We then had a wedge salad and then our meals. All of the seafood was very fresh and delicious. Service was friendly and prompt. One thing that was strange is I ordered the crab pasta, assuming it would be a bowl of pasta, but it was 3-4 large noodles folded over some crab. My friend and I saw the special Lent menu for Brine Oyster House. We headed there for dinner and were pleasantly surprised that there were only a few other patrons on a Wednesday night. The lent special did not allow you to swap out items so while it was the draw to get us there we never ordered off of that menu. We were greeted and sat very quickly. The menu was fairly self explanatory. My dining companion stayed basic with the fish and chips in which they indicated may have been the best "chips" they have ever had in their life. I had the salmon cakes which were not as satisfying but certainly edible. My dining companion also enjoyed the lobster roll. We had the bread pudding for dessert and it also was okay but nothing to write home. Overall, the atmosphere was nice, the menu was simple but focused which I appreciate. I have been to Brine several times in the past and decided to take a few girlfriends there this weekend after really hyping it up only to find out.... New menu and new chef that have not been advertised or posted online. The new menu was mehhhh. To start, we received cornbread which threw us all off - was this turning into a southern meal or soul food? (the Parker house rolls used to be divine). Also removed from the apps was the oysters&bubbles deal which was a perfect starter. A Caesar was added to the menu (who doesn't love a Caesar?) however, the taste of anchovies was VERY overpowering. Lobster pasta was confusing: oversized noodles wrapped around lump crab(could have made them into ravioli pockets or done larger chunks in a sauce) and left a LOT to be desired. Menu mentioned broccolini and instead we were served green beans without any warning of the change. I am no chef so I am always grateful for the hands cooking but the place was half full at 7pm on a Saturday and I'm not sure this menu will help turn that around. read more

The fries could be shared with 4 people easily. Too rich and large to order for one or two people, but very satisfying. I didn't try the beignets, but my husband niece seemed to love them. We tried all the oysters and the eel lake were the best and the sauces that came with them were really wonderful and also the Cajun seasoned shrimp cocktail was really a highlight. First time going and I went to experience the Tuesday prix fixe menu. The restaurant is beautiful, service is pleasant and attentive, but the meal -- like many of the reviews I'm seeing -- was hit and miss. Beef tonnato starter was good although my server mistakenly kept referring to it as tartare (which is minced and raw, whereas tonnato is of slices of rare prepared beef). The bread service was confusingly bad. Hot, steamy buttered bread was encased in foil and I had to peel the buttered portion from the foil, just to be met with the soft soggy bread. Decent flavor but still...mushy bread is unappetizing. "Caesar" salad didn't read to me as that, mostly because a toum-like garlic sauce was used rather than caesar dressing -- plus the combined flavors just didn't taste close to it, but it was a good salad. Last and unfortunately least successful, the "cacio e pepe risotto" with scallops; this dish lacked the creamy consistency of both cacio e pepe and risotto. The cacio cheese flavor barely came through over the pepper, but worst was how wet and loose the risotto was. The cheese crisp (also featured in the salad) made an unnecessary 2nd appearance here. The scallops were delicious, but not enough to save the watery risotto. I soooo wanted to like this place. Gorgeous spot and I'd been drooling over their IG posts for months. If I deign to come back, maybe it'll just be oysters and wine. read more

It's really astonishing how crucial music choice is to a restaurant and yet, so many leave it to chance or perhaps a manager potentially going through a breakup to determine what is playing in the dining room... My last trip to Brine was utterly marred by the poor choice in music on a dreary winter Wednesday night a few weeks ago. I had had a day and was very hungry and thirsty and wanted to treat myself so I headed to Brine. I was ready to throw down and have several cocktails and dishes and just enjoy the evening. The staff and ambiance were welcoming at first... but then I noticed the music just as was having the first sip off my drink. The saddest Jewel song ever. I even mentioned it to the bartender, like, me a single lady, out wanting to eat, drink, and be merry, doesn't want to listen to Jewel whimper about how her ex hates it when she leaves the light on. Does a couple on a date want to hear that either? A birthday party? Unlikely, though those people are maybe able to tune it out. I sometimes wish I had that superpower. The next song, even worse, but maybe went well with my underwhelming burger and fries... or perhaps the music made my Parisian Gnocchi and Crab Sauce not taste as good as I remember the last time I came here? I already know that I need to box my food because there is no way I can stay for whatever song is going to come after Corrine Bailey Rae's "Like A Star" (which, is a good song, just it's not keeping me at the bar ordering more drinks). First of I would like to say compliments to the chef!! This place came recommended by the fellow yelper and it did not disappoint. We made a reservation for Saturday evening, place was not packed we were seated in the downstairs area by the bar clean neat decor with NOLA vibes. Our server was great she recommended the oysters based on your preference and suggested the beef tartar as an appetizer. For main dish we opted for shrimp risotto and chefs special that evening was sea-bass with crusted vegetables. Outstanding fish was buttery and flaky and risotto had ton of flavor. Dessert was an interesting combination of sponge cake soaked up with caramelized pears just wow!! They also have a live jazz music upstairs. Great experience absolutely worse a drive. Brine has been on our list of places to try, so we picked a day and decided to go. The outside reminds me of an old New Orleans restaurant. I loved that! We had reservations, which I highly recommend because it was definitely busy. We were escorted upstairs and our server helped us with our decisions. Our cocktails and drinks were perfect. We chose several things to share and everything was amazing. We were both surprised that the muscles were a bit disappointing. I think once you've had then from Cadieux Cafe or Vivios, your expectations are set quite high. The oysters were perfect and the fries were delicious. I really liked this place. It definitely had New Orlean vibes from building exterior to interior with live jazz band. The food was delicious. Variety of Oysters is super fresh. Duck salad was very vibrant in presentation and had a good taste. Seafood bisque was lacking a bit of flavor, in my opinion, but people that were with me liked it. Prosecco bottle we ordered had a label from local artist, which was a nice touch. The band was great, I wish they would play a bit longer. Ended around 9:30pm. My husband and I came for dinner. The menu sounded promising but unfortunately most of the food we ordered wasn't just not good, it was truly BAD. I couldn't control the cringe on my face when I ate some of the dishes. The Burrata app truly tasted horrible. I determined that the bad flavor came from the honey. I'm not sure what type of honey they are using, but it didn't taste normal and really destroyed what could have been a tasty app. However, I did order a crab soup that was very yummy. Now for dinner, my husband got the shrimp risotto. The risotto consistency was not as it should have been. Way too thick and chunky. The taste was so so so fishy it was inedible. I had one bite and there was no way I'd be able to keep going. I would have sent it back but my husband kept trying to eat it. He eventually left about half of it because of how bad it tasted (usually he cleans his plate). I ordered the walleye. It came with a big carrot, mashed potato and some kind of coleslaw type side. I immediately was not happy to see the skin left on my walleye and bones sticking out the side. It wasn't flaking off the skin easily so I had to use my fingers to peel it away (not cute). I'm used to my fish being completely filleted and prepped for me. Sauce came on the side. Overall flavor was lack luster. Mashed potatoes were fine. The coleslaw was actually pretty tasty. Carrot was NOT tasty. Did not enjoy the "sweet" flavor it had. Overall there were a few hits but too many misses. I initially was excited for dessert when I read the menu, but after the tasting experience, we skipped on it. Brine is the newest restaurant addition to the quaint Grosse Point Village. This two story restaurant is an upscale oyster bar that has east coast vibes. When you walk in the door you are immediately presented with a classy oyster bar where there is a server shucking oysters live. Additionally, The upstairs dining room has weekly live music that provides a great vibe throughout the entire restaurant. If you do end up sitting upstairs, the music is quite loud which can make it challenging to have a conversation. We opted to sit at the bar downstairs and the bartender was exceptionally attentive and knowledgeable about the wine offerings. She allowed us to sample several wines to ensure we were happy with our selection. For dinner, we shared several plates to sample all of the different flavours. We started the meal with some cold offerings including the curried carrots, roasted beets and king crab with burrata. The curried carrots were surprisingly delicious. The dish is a cold salad of roasted carrots that are tossed in a creamy curry dressing. The curry was not too overpowering and perfectly balanced. The beets were also quite delicious as the earthy veggies sit atop a yogurt sauce and sprinkled with toasted pistachios. The crab and burrata was a strange but beautiful combo of flavours and textures. The velvety cheese with perfectly cooked crab was accompanied by a sweet and tangy 24hr roasted tomato confit. Normally dairy and seafood isn't a popular pairing but Brine definitely got the flavours right with this dish. For our warm dishes we ordered the salmon special and the roasted mushrooms. Every Saturday is "salmon Saturday" where they have a new rotating feature. The salmon dish had a Mexican flair as the fish was roasted in a banana leaf with a poblano pepper and accompanied with beans and rice. Finally The mushroom dish was a total umami bomb. It was a combination of several different types of wild mushrooms cooked in a sweet, salty and savoury sauce. This side dish was surprisingly scrumptious. A unique feature of this restaurant is that they have different themes/specials for certain week nights. Finally made it to Brine Oyster House! Even though it was a snowy Friday, we didn't let that stop us from enjoying a night out! I've been wanting to try this spot for a long time. We made our way to the upstairs bar where we were greeted by an awesome bartender! The vibe of this place is the French Quarter and the simple bistro decor is appropriate for an Oyster Bar. We started off with a platter of oysters, because that's what you do here!!!!! lol. We ended up ordering two of each type available. My most favorite was the Black Magic. Even though they were on the smaller side, their origin was off the cool water coast of Prince Edward Island P.E.I, I've always wanted to visit this very special place. These oysters were sweet & salty, perfectly balanced in flavor. We also decided to split the Friday Night Fish & Chips special and it was absolutely delicious! The cod filets were perfectly fried in the lightest batter! We were so impressed by the presentation. We will most certainly be back during the summer to enjoy an evening on the outside patio that wraps around the upper balcony! What a special addition to the GP restaurant scene! read more

I'm torn about giving them 5 because there were a few things I didn't like, but the food, ambiance and band were excellent, so I'll give them the 5 and hope they read this and fix the problems. I'll definitely go back though. We shared all of the food between 2 people: Mussels in green curry sauce - Amazing! Plus they gave us two crusty pieces of bread and fries that we proceeded to dip in the sauce. We ordered 2 oysters each to try - we enjoyed both - and they came with an interesting vinegar dip. The gnocchi with crab was the best gnocchi I've ever had. They were puffy with a slight crunch on the outside. The inside was tender and melted in your mouth. The crab and sauce were so good we sopped the rest up with our bread. The paella fritters were good but not great. They weren't as yummy as the other items, but not bad. The band was excellent-of course that's subjective, but I really enjoyed listening to them while eating. They also were aware of not being overly loud so that everyone could enjoy them but still converse. We had a great view of them from the upstairs bar. What didn't I like? We had reservations and they walked us upstairs and took us to a round 2 top table. It was comically small. I sat down, then decided, no way, we can't eat here. 1 plate and a drink each and there would be no room. So I asked if we could move to a 4 person table that was empty. Hostess came back and said, 'no', it was reserved. We were there for 1.5 hours, no one ever sat there. So we moved to the bar, which would have been great except the bar stools have no backs. By the end of the night my back was ACHING. New stools with backs would be a HUGE upgrade. With all the food we ordered we commented to each other that there was no way our plates would have fit on the little table. Later 2 ladies were seated there just for drinks - which is all they are good for. And finally - service was initially a bit slow. The bartender took a bit to ask us what we wanted and when we finally ordered, we sat for an additional 7 or so minutes waiting for our drink. Once our food started coming out though, everything moved along. They pipe the music to the downstairs diners, so if you're not interested in seeing the band, you can still hear them. read more

The server "J" was condescending, rushed us, and regularly interrupted conversation by talking over us at table 21. The restaurant was almost empty so they certainly did not need the table. Great ambiance, but that's about it. There was nothing (other than the architecture) reminiscent of New Orleans. The menu was not reflective of Louisiana at all. No gumbo, no poboys, no étouffée, no catfish, no redfish, no crawfish. The oysters were all small and unremarkable. None cooked in Rockefeller or Bienville style. The server was unenthusiastic and uninformed about the menu and specials. Portions are super small and expensive. We had very high hopes for this place. (I lived in New Orleans for 6 years.).
