We took my mother-in-law to The Great Dane for her birthday Saturday evening and what a great find this was! We were greeted warmly when we got there and asked if we had a reservation (highly recommended) and said we did. We sat at a high-top right at the front window. A nice vibe on a warm spring evening. Our server, Bobby, greeted us and told us the drink specials for the evening. Our drink orders were taken, and delivered promptly. The waiter's menu knowledge was excellent and his recommendations turned out to be perfect. We started with the battered oyster mushroom and dipping sauce. A large portion and perfect for three people. My mother-in-law and husband had the fish & chips and I had the chicken rigatoni as our mains. The fish was light and the batter crunchy. My rigatoni had an excellent flavor and fresh cherry tomatoes scattered through the sauce. So much flavor! The service was exceptional! Our waiter checked back often and even brought a nice mixed berry dessert for my mother-in-law's birthday! We'll ask for him again when we come back! All in all a wonderful experience! read more

Not loving the excessively high top table. Axle is waiting on us. Nothing on the starters menu sounded that appetizing. We considered the beet carpaccio, quinoa salad, savoy cabbage with side of Caesar, but none of the pizzas, burgers or other entrees sounded good to me at all. Food: We started with the side Caesar salad, sticky pork belly, and the trio skillet, dessert. The pork belly definitely has some tender pieces, but also some pieces that were too hard to really enjoy. The size Caesar salad was solid. They said they recently changed from a chopped Caesar salad to a Wedge salad and that was a good move. The trio skillet dessert was excellent. It came in a skillet that had three different compartments, one with a gooey chocolate chip cookie the second with a warm brownie and the third with an apple crumble. Definitely could have left the apple crumble off, but the chocolate items were top-notch. It was also great that the desserts did not run together as the cookie had vanilla ice cream on top. We then moved to our main courses which included a pepperoni pizza, no sauce, triple patty smash burger, chicken rigatoni, the lamb burger, and the pub sliders. The pub sliders were advertised on the happy hour menu as Smashburgera, which was very exciting for my daughter, but when it came, the beef patties were very thick. The server was nice, but did admit that it must have been a typo on the menu because they were never intended to be smash burgers, but that definitely was disappointing and the burgers ultimately were dry. I also ordered my lamb burger medium, but it came out medium well, very well in some areas and it was also dry and I could not enjoy it. The Smashburger was gone as soon as they hit the table, so that was good and the chicken rigatoni pasta dish was alright. The tomato sauce is very acidic if you like that and the chicken was grilled diced piece pieces. The restaurant had just opened about a half hour before we arrived so it was empty. Service was fairly on point. They definitely kept refilling our waters without asking which was nice and even after we expressed dissatisfaction with some of the food that was brought to us, the manager immediately came over asked if they could replace our meal or offered to take it off the bill so that was really a positive experience. The restaurant is very quiet and relaxing. Love the art on the walls and both the restaurant and the bathrooms were clean. We will definitely return, but would likely stay away from some of the items that we ordered the first time and did not enjoy as much. We'd probably all try the smash burger and definitely order the dessert again. Lastly, I had the chocolate espresso martini and it was the best part of the meal! read more

The space and staff were welcoming and I thought we were off to a good start. Once we sat at the table we noticed a strong floral smell that did not dissipate the entire time we were there. It came on strong again when they cleaned the table behind us. The pretzel appetizer with mustard was good, but the beer cheese seemed watered down and maybe thickened with corn starch? We tried a smash burger, which was average along with the fries. Our server was friendly enough, but they could have refilled our small water glasses a bit quicker. read more

We had been watching this for a long time waiting for it to open. The place inside is beautiful. They really did a nice job on redecorating and changing things around to make an inviting warm comfortable atmosphere. The menu has lots of choices we went for the regular hamburger and the French onion burger. Seems to be the same burger with different toppings and different prices. They had a really good char flavor to them but if you don't like char, you really shouldn't get this burger cuz it's pretty strong. The drawback to this place would be for some people that the drink prices are extremely high. We went for lunch and we had two non premium beers and one was $7 and the other one was $7.50. read more

My fiance and I stopped in here looking for brunch on a Sunday, and the interior decor is very vibey. Our waiter was attentive and kind. However we waited a LONG time for a seemingly simple order about an hour after ordering . Ok, so this is different. Royal Oak's latest brewpub is not more of the same. I went to Great Dane for lunch on a Thursday and was immediately impressed with its upscale interior design, brick walls, chandeliers, comfy booths--it feels more like a steakhouse or a grill at a country club than just another restaurant that serves burgers. The staff was dressed in uniforms and very well trained, polite, and attentive. They have a huge beer list, cocktail menu, and standard brewpub fare. I opted for a buffalo chicken sandwich with fries--my friend had a burger--and we were both impressed. The chicken breast on the sandwich was a very generous proportion, not heavily breaded, and I loved the sauce. The fries were crispy and there were plenty of them. I'm looking forward to coming back and trying the entrees. Definitely recommend it! read more

Very excited about a new restaurant in Royal Oak that is actually good the first time that i try it. Drinks were awesome. The bartender was great, they have a good happy hour. The mussels were great and broth exceptional! Could have used a little more bread to mop it up finally found a place that serves haddock instead of cod!! Batter was a little thick but chips were great. Our waiter was magnificent and had no problem returning the wrong beer that was poured by the bar tender. Owner (Lisa)has no clue what Her restaurant servers. She is very rude when you ask questions. She can't explain the food, drinks, or even the wine selection. The wine was picked because of the way the bottles look and not how they taste. The food was ok not what I was expecting for a chef that was on hell's kitchen. We got the dane pizza and it was like a wet noodle. When it was picked up it would just go limp. As for the looks of the restaurant, it looks like they are trying to be way higher end then the area should be. The seats have little to know padding. read more

We came in for dinner at around 10:00 and as we waited to be seated we were scolded by the host and/or waiter that we were in his way. We politely moved out of the way as best we could. He was again unpleasant as he brought us water. Young guy, man bun. The server was OK, she seemed a bit annoyed by us at first. Had dinner tonight cocktails are good service is great but the kitchen has some work. We order the most expensive thing on the menu lamb chops. It took a long time and they were over done. I don't think the kitchen staff have heard of salt. Two managers apologized for the food and wait but offer mother to compensate. 187 dollars after a well deserved tip to our server. And I did even eat the second chop it was so bad. Not going back. It's too bad the place has a great atmosphere. read more

Loved this new place! Good cocktails and love the vibe. Some of the best chicken tenders I've ever had. They also have my favorite kind of crispy French fry. Good ranch and sauces. The atmosphere is very lively, crowded, but not overly so. I made reservations But apparently they are not honored. looking good, My reservation was for 6:30, we arrived on time but had to wait and were seated at 7p.m. waiter took our drink order immediately. However 25 minutes later still waiting to place food order. So after an hour after arriving our order was taken, while noticing others had been waited on being seated after us. When the food finally arrived it was meh, at best, I had the fish n chips, breaded Cod, overcooked and tough, regular fries, from frozen. Fried mushrooms, "Oyster Mushrooms, tasty but ridiculously tough. Overall 4 out of 10, and I'm being generous. If their goal was to dissuade me from returning they definitely succeeded. read more
