Order 12 pastles on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and had to throw away 6 of them they didn't have any Meat (pork) in them the meat they used was canned corn beer meat . FYI, this place is not closed. I was here yesterday. I must admit I do like their other location much better. This location near 116th St has no table sitting, just limited seating along the window ledge. The food is ok, but the food quality is much better at their other location. They also ilegally charge a 20% surcharge if you pay with credit card and there is no sign posted anywhere indicating this. Pay in cash if you come here. I never heard of a 20% credit card fee. That cannot be legal. Also, when I asked for a receipt, the lady walked away. read more

Just arrived to Rockaway and took a stroll downtown(?). Anyway, my young granddaughter said it was a good place to eat and walked right in. Being as it was my first time, it was confusing without a menu or the item labeled behind the counter. I told the lady to surprise me she gave me a yellow rice and pulled/shredded pork/ beef. The food is always made fresh daily and the portions are huge even when you order the small lunch size, the ladies fill the container so much the lid barely fits & they have to wrap foil over the top to secure the lid . The empanadas are huge and filled with beef, chicken, pernil or cheese & cooked perfectly. I always get the white rice with beef stew...... the meat is tender & melts in your mouth and the huge pieces of carrots & potatoes are scrumptious. S ordered the white rice with chicken stew. The chicken was tender & juicy with assorted peppers. They serve breakfast, lunch & dinner plus they do catering. Then restaurant also makes shakes, juices and has an assortment of desserts. Monday- Saturday they have daily specials at a great price. The ladies here are very nice & helpful. The only drawbacks for this restaurant are there's only 1 table with 4 chairs AND they charge you more money if you don't pay cash. These are one of the few (maybe only) Spanish restaurants near Far Rockaway beach. Food was great but they are scammers! Please beware that they're menu prices don't match their actual prices. Here is an example: we ordered a chicharrón de pollo and the menu says $12. When we went to pay the bill it showed up at $18!!! The lady w the blonde hair then attempted to defend the bill by saying that it's because we ordered boneless chicharrón de pollo and with the bone is cheaper..... but where is that on the menu? I want to like this place since there is limited authentic Latin food in the upper Rockaways, but their customer service is horrible and the food is just ok. On 2 occasions I placed and order for delivery. In both cases they said 40-45 min. And in both cases I received my food after an hour and a half. I called the restaurant and they wanted me to contact their delivery driver and when I responded that that is not my responsibility, the girl told me oh well and hung up. To make matters worse, I ordered a coffee an most of my coffee had spilled in the bag. The delivery guy had nothing to say about that. I will never be ordering from them again. So I decided to give this new restaurant a try, and let me just say it was worth the drive! It's a family Owed restaurant and the staff is super nice! Beyond helpful when it comes to ordering and they treat you as a family member your self! The food was beyond tasty! And I loved the fact that there's plenty of options. Our first impression of the restaurant was it's literally a hole in the wall. There was no AC in the middle of July on a 90 degree day and the Buffet was severely slacking. Menu prices are also very deceiving as when you order to a certain specificity they raise the prices significantly without any warning. The food was okay but not worth the prices charged. read more

I love Brisas Del Mar ( it means Seabreezes, for you non Spanish speaking folks). I found this place kinda on accident, I wanted bagels for breakfast and a new bagel joint had opened up so I went to this spot and realized the bagel place was gone, and thats okay because Brisas Del Mar is where its at( they serve b-fast too!). Anyway, located on 116th, which I won't even comment with my usual parking rant. Just bring quarters or come on Sunday. I really like this location and the people. It has a more upscale feel than the one in the lower 100's ( or 90's). However, good food can be found in rat-hole places and for that I am thankful that Brisas Del Mar wins on food, service and decor/cleanliness. I've never had an issue with service, the ladies at the counter and serving are prompt and get to business. I've seen people of different ethnicities here so I know it's not just because I'm Hispanic that I get treated well. When I first went here I was disappointed because of the lack of variety, but than I don't know if I went when they were brand new and fresh or because it was an hour to closing however, I recently went here and was delighted at the variety that reminds me of my mami's cooking and home. Luckily I live so close and I will be here again on the days I'm too lazy to slave in the kitchen with food I grew up on. I do suggest anyone who hasn't had Dominican/Caribbean food to try it as it is very on point with the flavor profile. Oh, and my only gripe is the advertisement of this place being called "Spanish".
