Bar Chuzo is doing something really special with Latin cuisine and this meal was proof of that…read more Creative, bold and intentional, every dish delivered! The Tuna Aguachile was a standout! The sushi grade tuna and avocado layered together in a bright, herbaceous broth that had just the right amount of heat and freshness. The Scallop Crudo was equally impressive, silky smooth scallops with a citrusy, slightly sweet backdrop that let the quality of the fish shine. The Crab Cake was well seasoned and had this beautiful depth of flavor from the Ecuadorian manglar crab, not your average crab cake at all. And the Chicken Chuzo Platter genuinely surprised me. I normally avoid skewer style meats because they tend to come out dry but this chicken was incredibly moist, tender and packed with flavor from the brasa marinade. Served alongside yuca croquettes and Andean corn, it was a full, satisfying plate. On the drinks side the Light Roast Espresso Martini was smooth, perfectly foamy and had this lovely depth without being overly sweet. And the Ruby Rose Cooler? As a pink grapefruit lover, this one was made for me. Bright, refreshing and dangerously easy to sip.

We sat outdoors on the side of the bar at a cool table underneath and umbrella. It's just what I needed on a cool summer day. Everything we ordered was really great, the steak and potatoes were cooked to perfection, the salad was dress well and I don't even care for an arugula salad but guess what I like it only there. Everything was just great!!! The wings were so good I didn't even notice there was a sauce to go with it. It was devoured! My ceviche was really fresh and the plaintain chips it came with were the best compliment for it. Now our waiter was amazing, attentive was an understatement. If I saw someone's food at another table and asked what it was he was able to identify it. He made our lemonade iced tea to perfection. He was even moved to an inside table and was moved from servicing us and he still constantly came back to check on us. The experience with him made me solidified I want to come back.

I'm not going to pretend that I am the best person to determine what an authentic Colombian experience is (never had the pleasure of visiting Colombia), but if this isn't it, I can't imagine what they're missing. The staff speaks to you in Spanish exclusively, which made me glad one of my boys is Honduran. The TVs all over the place are playing what appear to be Colombian music videos that were made in the 80s featuring old men and attractive young women. They've got buckets of Colombian beer and frosted mugs so cold that the beer turned to slush around the sides. They've got a platter called the Bandeja la Berraca that consists of rice, beans, steak, plantains, eggs, avocado salad, little corn cakes, blood sausage, other sausage (amazing), and a giant side of chicharron. Eat and drink to you're bursting, while adorable Colombian kids run around the place. And rejoice that you live in NYC, where these things can be had.

There are only a handful of tables, but we were still able to find a spot easily (we went around 2pm). We ordered Cuban sandwiches and guava pastelitos. I hadn't had a Cuban sandwich in years, and these absolutely did not disappoint. The sandwiches had the perfect balance of bread, meat, cheese, and sauce. They were rich and flavorful without being greasy or dry. They also came with plantain chips and a garlic sauce on the side, which was a nice touch. I also really enjoyed the guava pastry. It had a generous amount of guava filling but wasn't overly sweet. I'm so glad we discovered this spot and will definitely be coming back.

Ambiance is super casual - maybe more of a take out spot, but there's decent seating. Came with 6 people (including 2 little ones) and it was great. Food: make sure to order the Garlic Moji and Cilantro Aioli on the side. They really make the dishes! I ordered the below and enjoyed it all: -Chicken Plate: very satisfying -Pork Sandwich (a little oily, but would order again) -Empanadas: favorite was ham & cheese. The guava one was ok - a bit rich and leans more heavily cheese.
