Ted's Automatic Transmission: A Five-Star Experience…read more Ted's Automatic Transmission of Raleigh truly deserves a five-star rating. When the transmission in my 2015 GMC began slipping just four years and 77,000 miles after the dealership had installed it, I was sick to my stomach. The dealership quoted me over $7,000 to rebuild the transmission .... again. During a recent job transporting aftermarket torque converters for GEM Logistics, I asked around for a reliable transmission mechanic. Nate at GEM Logistics immediately recommended Ted's Transmission and told me to "Ask for Marvin." I called Marvin at Ted's Automatic Transmission, and after a brief conversation, he suggested I bring my truck in for a closer look. Upon arriving at the shop, I was impressed by the beautiful facility and the friendly atmosphere. Marvin's straightforward approach and reassuring demeanor immediately put me at ease as he conducted a preliminary evaluation based on my information. Marvin and his team went above and beyond to resolve my issue. Not only did they rebuild my transmission in less than 48 hours, but their pricing was extremely affordable. The entire process was smooth and worry-free, thanks to their professionalism and expertise. I am deeply thankful to Marvin and the entire team at Ted's Automatic Transmission for their outstanding service. Thank you, Marvin, and kudos to everyone at Ted's Automatic Transmission!

I've probably…read morebought 5 cars from Westgate Imports over the years and until this last car, always had good luck. However, my daughter bought a Toyota Camry and it's been nothing but trouble. The first issue was within 2-3 weeks of purchase and Westgate's response was basically "tough". In the past, they would have stood by the car in some form or fashion. I will never buy or recommend this place again. If you want to, just realize you need to have the car independently checked out.

Where do I even begin with this shop!…read more I was looking for a local speed/performance shop to do some work on my 66 Impala SS. Needed the gas tank fixed (was leaking from the sending unit), needed a fuel pump replacement, and the steering box replaced. It is a big block 427 bored out to a 496. I showed the car to Grover who assured me, that even though he was semi-retired, he would oversee all the work done to my car. I trusted him to do that. The lady behind the counter was completely and totally useless to work with. When I brought the car in so they can start the work, she said "I don't know where to get parts for this car...its a classic car". REALLY? Its a Chevy big block with parts available anywhere on the internet (Jegs, Summit, etc) or at ANY auto parts store. She was so inept that I actually had to order the parts online and have them install it. So lets get to the repair quality: 1. Leaking gas tank. She said they have to drain the tank to repair it. Ok, so do what you need to do...unreal...drain the freaking tank! They claimed to have fixed the problem, and when I went to pickup the car the gas tank was almost completely empty. They never refilled it up to the point where the gas was at the sending unit leak. Needless to say, it still leaks. They added some new plumbing parts that weren't needed to fix the problem. Complete fail on their side. She actually told me "Grover approved the work and it's complete". Ummm....FAIL! 2. Replace fuel pump. The car wasn't running because the fuel pump went bad and wasn't sending fuel to the carburetor. I supplied a new fuel pump from AeroMotive. Upon inspection of their work, I see the tech screwed the fuel pump underneath the trunk with two sheetrock screws. How do I know this? Well they left the sharp ends of the screws sticking up into my trunk by at least 1/4 inch. I found out when trying to install some Subs in the trunk and noticed the two screws from the fuel pump protruding through the trunk bed. FAIL! Why wouldnt they use two sheet metal bolts and nuts with some blue locktite? Would Grover had accepted this on his car? She actually told me "Grover approved the work and it's complete". Ummm....FAIL! 3. Finally, the steering box. This appears to be installed properly, but there is still a small hydraulic fluid leak coming from that area. Could be the pump or hose connection. Why didn't they diagnose that? She actually told me "Grover approved the work and it's complete". Ummm....FAIL! Grover's tag line is "We make it feel right".... Well, if by "feel right" he means "we are inept" then yes, I agree. I paid just under $1,100 for their work. They had the car for almost a month. When I complained about the work, she said that she "spoke to the new manager and I would have to bring my car back in so he can look at it". NO FREAKING WAY will I bring my car back there. I should have done the work myself but I just didn't have time. Lesson learned. Make the time to do it yourself and STAY FAR AWAY FROM McNAIR PERFORMANCE/Westgate Auto where the techs work who Grover 'supervised'.

Reasonable price, great owner, and nice location…read more Came in for an oil change and to track down the cause of a recurring stall issue with my Volkswagen Tiguan. The mechanic listened, asked good follow-up questions, made sure he understood the problem before drawing any conclusions, and then diagnosed it cleanly. The part arrived within the window he quoted (2-3 hours), was installed without fuss, and the final bill was reasonable. What stood out as much as the technical work: he flagged a slow coolant leak and a minor oil leak -- this is an older car, so neither was a shock -- but there was no pressure to pile on services. He showed me rough estimates so I'd have them when I'm ready and left the decisions to me. That kind of straightforward, no-upsell approach is rarer than it should be. The waiting area is a genuine plus: free wifi, a table big enough to work at, and a small fridge with complimentary drinks, large TV. My one suggestion would be to add a coffee in the AM. Also, the door to the reception currently reads "B". Might want to avoid any confusion with better signage. That said, I am a big fan of this establishment and will be using them for repairs in the future (apparently sooner than I want :) Bonus: he pointed me to a wonderful Indian place across the street, Biryani, which I'd highly recommend if you have time to kill while your car is being worked on.
