Very nice hotel. Clean,quiet. The bed was very comfortable. When in Bug Pine stay at this hotel. It is the best.

My wife and I had planned to stay at the Bristlecone Motel in Big Pine, CA for two nights so she could photograph the ancient bristlecone pine forest. Unfortunately, the weather forecast changed the day before our trip, and conditions would have made photography nearly impossible. I called the motel hoping they would either allow us to cancel or simply move our reservation to another date. I wasn't asking for a refund without notice, I was asking for the opportunity to reschedule our stay. They refused both requests and instead charged us $122 for the privilege of canceling our reservation. I understand that businesses have cancellation policies, but I also believe there should be some flexibility and customer service when unforeseen circumstances arise, especially when a guest is simply asking to change the reservation rather than cancel it outright. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend the Bristlecone Motel. We still plan to visit the bristlecone forest in the future, but we will be staying somewhere else. Customer service matters, and unfortunately, the Bristlecone Motel missed the lecture that day at business school. read more

Love this Motel. They have REAL DOOR KEYS (:-) Been driving past it for years. Can't believe I didn't check it out sooner because it is NOW officially my go to motel in this area. This appears to be a family owned business that includes the MOTEL and MARKET (where you check in) and GAS station. Scott was super nice when checking us in. I actually thought "Wow...how lucky to have him as an employee". Another employee, Wiley was over the top helpful. I love discovering a little gem like this in a remote area without many choices !!! The roofs are full of solar. Love this! There IS a wheelchair accessible room with parking and a ramp and a huge bathroom with safety bars in the combo TUB/shower. This is room 19. It also has a Roku TV which had not been properly set up last night. Wiley, from the store tried diligently to get it set up but we just didn't have the proper logins. So we moved to room 21 with a regular TV. (:-). Room 21 has an awesomely comfortable bed. Something I noticed... that I've never noticed in any hotel...was that not only was the mattress super comfortable but the BEDDING IS SOOOO COZY. I don't know why, but it's the softest snuggly bedding I've ever noticed. I was laying in bed thinking "I'm sooo comfortable". This isn't a huge room but it has huge room counter space. Lots of room to spread out. The bath counter in 21 must be over 6'. Very convenient! Everything was clean and nice. There are plenty of outlets for charging devices including toothbrushes etc. -AC is great -Separate wall HEATER has a separate wall thermostat above the bedside light. -Coffee Maker with coffee -Microwave -Fridge with tiny corner freezer. My blue ice was too large to fit inside but stayed frozen on the shelf under the freezer. If you have small blue ice they will fit. -Hairdryer in bathroom. -Extra pillows -Shampoo etc in shower -Nice bathroom tile floor. This room was obviously renewed a while back. Nice drywall texture etc. It's a minimalist room as to decor, but fully functional and inviting. As for the MARKET...they take their market very seriously. It's literally a mini-supermarket! We stayed in two rooms on a Friday night in September; arrived quite late. Good: easy, friendly check-in at the gas station. Convenient one floor hotel. On Main Street, an easy walk to everything in town. Not much truck noise at night. Hotel Wi-Fi speed near 10 Mbps, fast enough for general browsing. Good cellular signal, at least with AT&T. Good to see rooftop solar! Less convenient: there is a step up in front of each room, which would not work for a wheelchair user. Each fridge had a few inches of ice and could use defrosting. My family did not want one room because it had a large moth; the bathroom overhead light did not work. The other room had no shower gel. None of my vacation photos uploaded on the hotel Wi-Fi even after I switched my phone off and on. read more

Very humiliating experience. In town for thanksgiving at my uncle's home and had 2 days of cold showers! When I approached Wiley the manager (in the gas station in front -hotel management) and told of cold showers, he went back and checked something only to tell me there's hot water- after I just came out of a cold shower minutes before! No apology no discount not even making eye contact with me. I'm diplomatic and soft spoken- not a complainer just want what I paid for. He treated me like a city slicker that didn't belong there! the staff is super friendly and greet everyone with a smile. Rooms are clean. WiFi is terrible, it works once in awhile, perhaps 30% of the time but is slow even when it works. It's an older property where you check in next door at the gas station. It was full every night even in off season. It is a good value for the money and all the rooms have microwave and refrigerators. Restaurants in this town are limited but 20 miles up the highway are lots of choices. read more

Decent accommodations. I appreciate how streamlined the process is. Easy to book, thorough written directions, quiet, dog-friendly, and priced well. Solid staff, from the guys in the gas station to the girls cleaning the rooms. It's definitely no-frills, and we got lucky that we didn't stay in a room with carpet. It's clean enough for a night, and the water pressure is excellent and I think this place caters to hikers so all in all it's not bad. The mattresses are old and you can feel the coils on your back, also the bedding is synthetic, thin, and the beds overall are the worst part of the stay. The gas station in front is really well-stocked and has all kinds of goodies that you can cook in the kitchenette. read more

Just looking for an affordable place to crash after a long hiking roadtrip and this place won my search parameters. I was pleasantly surprised and we had a comfortable nights sleep, the shower had great water pressure and good heat, the place was clean and it had 3 beds to accommodate each of us. Due to car trouble we got there late and I saw a sign in the door to head to the gas station, they also were 1-minute from closing, but the guy was pleasant and professional and I got the key to the room and a nice shower and sleep was had. Don't expect the Ritz, this is not it, but if just need a clean, comfy place to crash out, then this will do perfectly. As long as you're there during normal life hours, and not super late, there is plenty around to eat and stock-up items for the room. read more

No heat and grimy. Heater wouldn't turn on, and had to have staff come in to turn it on. It turned off in the middle of the night and we were unable to get it to come on again (again) despite setting the temperature, mode, and on/off. Bathroom was nice for a gas station, but lots of mildew in the shower. Toilet was loose to the floor (rocked). Shower had soap dispensers, but shower gel was empty -- other containers weren't sampled. Bed mattress had a mound in the middle, like the inverse of a sag. Very soft mattress in general, and far from flat. Padded desk chairs were heavily stained. We tolerated it since we were in a backpacking mode, but if you care about clean, then look elsewhere. read more

Nice place to crash on the way to the ancient Forrest. Rooms are clean and neat. Bathroom is huge enough to host the fridge, microwave and coffee pot. So it's like having a kitchen in your bath or a toilet in your kitchen. Take your pick! Check in is done at the gas station next door. The gas station has much more than a quickie market, it's like a mini Home Depot that sells snacks and gas and fishing licenses or motel rooms. Highly recommend staying at the Bristlecone! read more

Don't know what's going on with these reviews but this place is a D-U-M-P! Or at least Room 18 is. Maybe the others are renovated I don't know. But this one stunk of mildew and mold. It was not a mild smell either, it was disgusting. When I complained, spraying Febreeze in the room was their solution. The owner clearly knew there is an issue in the room as he declined my offer to come smell it. They shouldn't be offering a room in this condition. The Febreeze lasted about 30 seconds and then I turned in the key and went to a cleaner hotel in town. I recommend you do the same. read more

PRO TIP: Be sure to check provided toiletries before taking a shower or a crap! Don't find yourself stranded like I did. Not a bad stay considering the Bristlecone is right off the main highway. Stayed for two nights in order to conquer two hikes. As stated, the motel is on the main highway, but conveniently located to restaurants as well as a mini market and gas station which are both on the same property. Functional AC, plenty of hot water for a Hollywood shower and chairs outside of the rooms so you can sit and have a few cold ones at the end of the day. read more

I enjoy the nostalgia of a drive up motel and decided to stay here after a long trip heading south because the price was right. Well as happy Gilmore said the price was wrong Bob. On first glance the room was nice but as I used the kitchen sink I noticed a filthy microwave. While using the shower I also noticed the previous guest had left an uncapped bottle of a mysterious ointment or lotion on top of the shower. So I did what any guy who cant resist free stuff would do I quickly covered myself in the free mysterious liquid. While pulling the sheets back the sheets appeared dirty which came off with a quick sweeping of my hand. And then to top it off a small little bug crawled across my arm at night. I dont believe it was a bed bug but still was tressapassing anyway. read more

We stayed at this motel for one night in mid July. I had a pleasant experience and told myself I've to give them a good review on Yelp when I return home -it's long overdue. Our room is clean, spacious, comfortable and quiet. When our shower gel bottle pump didn't work. They came to fix it/replace the bottle right away. Heather is super friendly. I would recommend this place to anyone who travels to Big Pine area. read more

This place is simple, but I honestly love it. The workers are nice.It's clean, I especially appreciate that they are dog friendly , they even had a little space with grass , where you can take your dog to go to the bathroom. It probably is the cleanest motel I have stayed at. The management was very nice and accommodating. No frills, but can't beat the location and the rooms with kitchens are da bomb. We always get the three bedded room (can't remember the number), and it's perfect when you've got two adults and a teenager on the trip. Also means that there's room for a table and four chairs, and a large bar top dividing the kitchen from the rest of the room, which is great for extra storage. There is a good-sized refrigerator, stove and microwave. Also a few pots and pans, which come in handy. It can be kinda weird to have to check in at the gas station, but hey, that way you can wonder around and see all the "stuff" they carry. It's a cornucopia of products. Man and his wife work the store and do the cleaning, and they couldn't be more pleasant. Amenities are pretty much thin on the ground, so make sure you have what you need. We stay here every time we're making the fishing circuit in the Owens Valley, and have never had cause to complain. We'll be up there again in October. read more

Extremely basic accommodation chosen for its proximity to the entrance of the Bristlecone Pine Forest but clean enough. It's associated with a liquor store and feels sketchy, but the customer service is exemplary. I had left behind an item of no obvious value to anyone but myself and phoned a few days later searching for it. The man who answered the phone knew exactly what I was referring to and It had been saved. He was very nice about shipping it to me the following morning and it arrived well packaged and undamaged. read more

My mom, sister, and I stayed here 2 weeks ago and got BED BUGS!! We had dinner last night and were shocked that we all had itching bumps on our legs and arms. The only place we had been together was the hotel and we are 100% sure it was there. Both my mom and I are now worried we tracked it back home and after reading up on bed bugs, they hide almost anywhere and are only eliminated via a fumigator that would use pesticides or heat your home +120 degrees. Not cheap! I'm now scared to sleep in my own bed because I unpacked my bag on my bed. I'm furious and feel helpless at the same time! Do yourself a favor and just stay somewhere else! It's one thing to get bites at a hotel but to have to deal with a possible transmission and infestation in your own home is too much to risk! read more

We stayed here for a night before our backpacking trip up to Big Pine Lakes. We got in late and it was a little weird checking in at a gas station. The room is small. Probably the smallest room we have ever stayed in. It was clean enough. By that, I mean it wasn't pristine, but not horrible. Think of your first trip over to a new chicks house. She may not keep the cleanest pad, but it's clean enough for you to return and not dump her. That's how this place is. Maybe a little dated. It has everything we needed for an overnight sleep. Comfortable bed and a nice warm shower with good water pressure, TV, microwave, refrigerator, and good wifi. The price was fair and I would definitely stay here again. read more

We were going to stay in bishop but saw a crappy room for $120 but decided to keep heading south into Big Pine. This place was way cleaner & half the price. Owners are extremely friendly and efficient! Rooms are very clean and comfortable. The little in-room refrigerator/freezer worked great and that's not always the case. I needed to freeze my water bottles for my cooler and they were frozen solid by morning. Will definitely stay there again the next time I'm in the area. read more
