Know going in that this ain't the Ritz. It's an old school independant roadside motor court right out of the mid twenth century. Basic in the physical. However, I spend 100 nights a year on the road, and have for many years usually @ Marriott or Hilton's. This room was one of the cleanest rooms I have ever had the pleasure of staying in. Every effort has been made to make the room comfortable. The staff was as fantastic and made sure I was well cared for. I truly felt appreciated. It's also in one of the most beautiful area of the country that has limited options for lodging - they did great. Plus they have adopted a stray chicken. read more

When are PCT plans took a turn. We decided to stay in the area for a few more days and chose the starlight Motel based on the yelp reviews. As other yelpers mentioned, it's a great stay. The hosts are amazing and kind. The fruit basket and cookies to welcome you along with a cold beer made it even more amazing. It's so far better place to stay that the other two choices in town. The cinderblock walls ensure that the room is very quiet. You will not be hearing your neighbors through the walls. Fish cleaning station for those of you who like to angle plenty good fishing just up the canyon in Pine Creek. I would highly recommend staying at the starlight motel if you're passing through big Pine and looking for some lodging, we stayed for four nights and really enjoyed it! read more

A simple, clean motel nestled in the Eastern Sierras. The staff was kind and knowledgeable about the local area. I loved hiking and stargazing in Big Pine. It is close enough to Mammoth Mountain and Mammoth Lakes for a day trip. The beds were comfortable, and I loved meeting their mascot, Lucky the chicken. The outdoor fire pit and picnic area were fun places to gather with my group. read more

We stayed in a 2-bed unit with 2 large queen beds, with all the amenities needed, frig, microwave, coffee maker, hair dryer. Large walk-in closet with plenty of space for all our stuff. The hosts are so warm and welcoming. We came here with four friends (some had three rooms total). Beds are firm, and the mattresses are good quality. Everything is clean and fresh and comfortable. Hard to remember all the great things about this hotel but the owner is a peach who knows how to give top notch service, from a nice gift basket at check in with water bottles and fresh fruit to beyond a clean room. I was camping alone nearby and didn't feel safe on my last night so I decided to go to a hotel, the owner was so accommodating and helpful, handling the entire check in process over the phone at 11pm He even let me get into the room first before I gave payment over the phone so that I could feel secure about giving my personal information. The room was clean, had everything a person could need, including a toothbrush with the toiletries. He said that he had just purchased the business, and I have no doubt he will make it a success with the level of hospitality and attention to detail he provides. read more

Headed to June lake/Mammoth but wanted to stop at Big Pine to hit up some creek fishing. From making reservations, checking in and plans to check out next day, Tochar was superb and accommodating. The room (room 10) is quaint and carries all the amenities we need. There's no ice machine on the premises, but if you ask the front desk, they will gladly accommodate you with a bucket or two or three. The premises is clean and well manicured. Each room has its own designated parking space making it easier for guests to park The shower is perfect putting out nice strong flow of water. It's great after a long day of fishing. They put out extra amenities such as a toothbrush, hair comb and toothpaste along with make up remover, and lotion. The shower as shampoo and body gel dispensers. There's a huge walk in closet for your luggage and clothes. The walls are cement blocks so you don't hear a thing from your neighbors or outside activity. Coffee maker (excellent coffee) microwave and small frig. We would definitely come back. read more

This has to be one of the best little roadside motels we've ever stayed in. Tushar, the owner, is wonderful. What a helpful man! He goes above and beyond to make sure you're comfortable at his motel. He let us know the hours of all the nearby eateries. What attractions are nearby. And not only did he know what was happening in his little town of Big Pine, but he was knowledgeable in what was what in neighboring towns as well. The rooms were quite and clean. The view of the nearby mountain range was spectacular. If you're ever traveling down the 395 and need a place to spend the night you can't do better than the Starlight Motel. Can't say enough about how accommodating starlight motel was. We called at 4am really tired, needing a place to stay. They were so helpful and checked us in at 6 am with ease. The room was super clean and comfy with one of the best showers and water pressure I've ever had. We left an item behind and they were willing to ship them back, however we were able to reroute our trip and pick them up. They answered every phone call promptly, and followed up with us immediately. I would highly recommend this establishment. read more

We stayed here on July 12th after hearing some amazing reviews and needing a last minute place to stay. Tushar is amazing and SO accommodating. He took myself and three others, as well as my small dog in at the last minute. Room was very affordable and clean. Nice deck with a barbecue and plenty of seating outside. He also has a fire pit and fish cleaning station. If I could leave 10 stars I would. We will definitely be returning. read more

I booked a room a few months before my arrival for May 24 thru 26 ('19), at an agreed rate of $89 per night ($199 total with tax). I asked for an email confirmation, and after not receiving one, I called back and Tushar mentioned he was having some issues with sending me an email confirmation. I never did receive that confirmation, which should've been the first red flag. Fast forward to four days prior to my check-in date, when I called to let him know I wouldn't be needing the room for the first night, just for the 25th & 26th. He then stated that he hoped he could "rent the room, as it was a busy weekend". I mentioned to him that his motel's cancellation policy states that a cancellation be made no later than three days in advance of check-in to avoid any charges, but during that phone conversation he wouldn't commit to that policy...a second red flag. I checked in on the 25th and stayed the two nights, and at checkout Tushar handed me a bill for $392 for the two nights, WHICH IS ABOUT DOUBLE THE QUOTED RATE!! I told him about our agreed upon price, and he INSISTED that he would never have quoted such a low price for a holiday weekend, and I responded by stating that he should have taken that into consideration before committing to the $89 per night price. Things started to get a bit heated, and he offered to lower the price to $354, at which time I decided to call the police. The best the police could do was document the situation (which they did), so I paid the slightly less ridiculous price and immediately contacted my credit card company to proceed with a dispute against the Starlight Motel and to get reimbursed for the difference. Tushar's tone of voice as I was leaving the office after making the payment was extremely loud, angry and aggressive, a direct contrast to his likeable manner prior to the overcharge dilemma. We only stayed the one night, but that one night was by far the best hospitality in the area! When we arrived there was offered free chapstick, mints & mini chocolates as you check-in. Once in the room it was very clean & many amenities were offered. Juices in the fridge to the toothbrush & toothpaste in the bathroom. The shower was surprisingly amazing the pressure was nice & the temperature was perfect! The next morning there was juices, granola bars, cookies, peanuts & other goodies readily available. We were headed to Mammoth for our family Vacation and knew in advance the weather was bad. This was just after Christmas. Once we got to Bishop we heard the 395 to Mammoth was closed. Panicked - to say the least- we started calling and calling all the local hotels. Nothing... everything was booked. We called the Starlight and luckily for us 2 rooms were available -(they just had a cancellation). The hotel was just like out of Schitt's creek with the owner/manager Pravin, being one of the kindest, sweetest person we had ever met in our travels. He made us feel like we just came home to visit our family! He wanted to make sure we were all comfortable and safe. Really? Who gets that kind of treatment anymore? The hotel is clean and perfect for a few nights stay. Don't hesitate to stay there. It's nice to give business to someone who actually does leave it the light on for you. read more

I am forever grateful to the wonderful owner of this business! Contrary to what Blanche DuBois has said, I seldom rely on the kindness of strangers. A series of misfortunes has changed my mind. My husband and I got a flat tire in a remote part of the Death Valley with no cellphone service. After sitting on the road for a day, a ranger came to our aid, suggested that we leave the car there and get help the next day, and to get a motel room in the nearest town, Big Pine, an hour away. As soon as I got cell service again, I called to find a room in Big Pine. From the moment I spoke to Tushar, the owner, he greeted me with hospitality. When the ranger dropped us off he opened the room and turned the heater on before even checking us in. He let the ranger use his restroom and gave him juice. He offered my husband and I food and drinks, and gave us local food suggestions. The room was clean, quiet, affordable, warm, and served our needs after a long day of being stranded in the cold high desert. We were unable to secure a rental car, the rangers could no longer help us, and AAA would not drive out to where our car was located. Not knowing what to do, we asked Tushar if he could provide us with some help. Tushar had one of his hired handymen, Gary, drive us out to our car an hour away. Gary helped us remove the tire, drove us to Bishop to get a new tire and a spare, back to the car, and helped put the tire on. Gary was such a life saver. Tushar and Gary went above and beyond what most business owners would do for their clients. If I am ever back in the area I will be sure to stay here again. We stayed here after getting a flat in the middle of our drive to Mammoth around 11 PM. We called Carol At what felt like the middle of the night and she helped us get situated and settled, which was such a relief given that we have two young children. While it was certainly stressful to get a flat tire in the middle of the night with the kids, we felt so comforted to be able to stay here. Carol brought usExtra towels and made sure we had coffee and was flexible with our check out time so that I could teach my class in the morning using their Wi-Fi, which was very fast. When we realized the next day that we had left our son's favorite pink pillow behind, she checked the room and found it for us. If you ever need a place to stay in big Pine, we recommend that you stay at this sweet motel. read more
