We were so disappointed in our stay here. The pictures do NOT accurately represent the property.Our cabin was super old (but clean) and the floor was at a tilt. The pizza in the lodge was awful. We had to leave one day early as an unexpected storm came in and the owners offered not even a partial refund for the lost day. It was cold in the lodge and they didn't bother to make a fire. Our waitress was very good. We will never go back there or recommend the place to friends or family....I grew up in Bishop and had hoped for a nostalgic getaway. After a long day of driving, we bring in our bags, light up a fire in the pit, and crack open a cold one. My son's family and I just stayed for a few nights in the Golden cabin. It was a great experience we all had. Making s'mores by the fire pit was a hit with my grandson. Our cabin was clean, comfortable, warm and had everything we needed. The staff were great and helped us with everything we needed like extra towels and what not. I hate to leave bad reviews and this is only the second or third time I have ever done so but I felt I should share my experience. The outside landscape is beautiful. However, shortly before my stay, I was sent an email saying there would be potential moths and it was too late to get a refund at that point. I did call though a couple of days before and was told it wasn't really an issue. Our cabin was FLOODED with moths. We could not shower at night because we couldn't even turn on a cell phone or we would be attacked my moths. There were holes in the screens (and you had to keep the windows open or it was too hot in there). I was told that the moths would be in there anyways regardless of the holes and that they get into cars, but there were no moths in my car, which was parked right outside of our cabin, so it's hard to see how that is true. In addition, I went with another family and their baby experienced altitude sickness. We all decided to leave a night early, since their baby was going through that and we have a baby that is a similar age so we were a little concerned for ours, and that plus the moths made us decide to leave. Of course altitude sickness is not their fault but what I did not appreciate was that I actually called ahead of time to ask how it is up there for babies and was told that it was fine and they never have had complaints and there are babies there all of the time. When I mentioned the altitude issue to the person who worked there, she told me I should have done research and she couldn't believe I would bring a baby up there. I was like I called ahead of time and you guys said something completely different on the phone! I told her about the phone call and she just said "right" and gave me a blank stare. I just found that interaction to be very unprofessional. If you look at it like you are camping though and don't mind holes in the screens then you will enjoy your stay. My husband and I stopped here after a great hike up to Lookout Mountain. We ordered the chili cheese fries, a beer, and a lemonade and we're not disappointed! Portion size was large enough for both of us to share, just what we needed after a long hike on a hot day. Beer was local and very reasonably priced too. Will definitely be back! I've stayed here many times throughout the years, starting back in the mid nineties when the Olsens owned it. The cabins were always clean and well maintained, and the restaurant was always a great place to have a delicious meal after a day of fishing. After a long hiatus of staying here, we decided to return and what a noticeable difference. Our cabin was tidy...somewhat. There were spider webs in the light fixtures, in every corner of the rooms and windows, lots of bugs, dirty dishes, windows that didn't close properly, broken drapes and a bedside lamp that was a fire hazard (the cord was scotch taped together and plugged in). The people in the cabin next to us were out on their porch talking, drinking and smoking pot until 12:20am and we finally had to ask them to be quiet. Although there were Bear warning signs posted in the cabins, there were no reminders of "quiet hours". The restaurant is now only open on the weekends and has a limited menu. The food used to be great here and now it's just mediocre. There were spider webs in every window in the dining room and bar with dead bugs on all the window sills next to where you eat. The little store that used to have so many fun little souvenirs and necessities is half empty now, which is very sad to see. I suspect the fish hatchery issues that has plagued CA causing a lack of stocking the creeks for a few years, along with Covid shutdowns and staffing shortages has taken its toll. But for a 3 night stay at $700, we were very disappointed. It saddens me to see the difference. BCL has never been an inexpensive place to stay, but it used to be worth the trip. The 2 stars is for the staff, because they are very nice and welcoming. read more

I'm not sure why the reviews are so good on google and yelp, because we were very disappointed with our stay here. My family and I regularly visit the eastern Sierra and are used to staying in "rustic" cabins and camping. This was the first time we ever felt that our cabin was gross. We stayed in the Brook cabin, which was advertised to have a great view that includes a waterfall. This is true, but the view also includes power lines, which was kind of a bummer. The cabin, like many others, does not have air conditioning, so it does get very hot by the end of the day (thermostat was reading over 90F). Unfortunately, we couldn't leave any windows open to cool the cabin down because there were gaps in the screens that would allow moths and mosquitoes to fly in. There is one fan in the cabin, but that only allowed one area of the cabin to stay cool while the other room felt like a dry sauna. On to the more serious issue, the cabin was completely infested with moths and spiders. We kept finding large spiders on the beds, shower curtain, and "clean" folded blankets in the closet. There were also moths that would fly out of the "clean" towels in the bathroom. At night, the top windows would be covered in moths, and any time we turned on a light in the middle of the night, we'd be greeted with a swarm of moths. It was disgusting. We also noticed holes in the cabin where moths would randomly get in throughout the night. We mentioned the issue to the front desk but they did not have any solutions for us. Would have been nice to be offered a bug zapper or something. Fortunately, we didn't have issues seeing mice/rats inside the cabin, but we did hear them walking and squeaking in the walls in the early morning. Pluses... location is close to great trails and lakes, it's quiet (stayed here to get our dog away from fireworks over 4th of July weekend), and continental breakfast is provided. That's about it. Definitely won't be staying here again. read more

The staff are super friendly, the cabins were clean and perfect for our family of 5. We enjoyed the beautiful scenery and activities. I just left this property and I do not recommend it. The cabins are not well maintained. We had a total of three cabins for me and the family. These cabins are like ovens during the day. They provided me with one very small fan. It cools down at sunset and through the night but it doesn't matter because most of the windows have no screens therefore unable to open to let the breeze in. We spent three miserable nights unable to sleep due to the fact that our cabin had a mouse and spiders everywhere! I kept my flashlight next to me to keep the mouse away but heard my husband yell in the middle of the night because the mouse had crawled on his arm. We felt so unsafe because when we locked the front door, just by turning it a few times the door unlocked without the use of the key. So, we never had to use the key and at night secured the door with a chair under the doorknob. And the road leading to the top cabins is terrible. Our cars had a hard time climbing due to the many holes and rocks and loose dirt. I will definitely not be staying at this property ever again! Don't waste your money. read more

LOVE,LOVE, LOVE the Bishop Creek Lodge and the family and staff that run it. My family just rented 3 of the cabins and we were there for a full week. If you expect luxury and being pampered this is not for you. This is rustic charm in an adorable very clean fishing cabin. The bed linens and towels were like brand new. Beds all comfortable! The kitchen is stocked with mostly everything you could need. The shower is Hot! The BBQ is small, but we brought our blackstone and it worked out great. The food in the restaurant was simple but good and there is no where else to go on the mountain for dinner on a Friday or Saturday night. It is in the tree's with water running thru it which my dog loved, Yes they are pet friendly. It is nestled against the mountain, simple and quiet, at least after we left (there were 12 of us). I have been cleaning fish at their fish cleaning station for years and frequenting the store, bar and restaurant, I am HAPPY to have stayed here and look forward to my next visit! There's "rustic" and then there's rustic. We stayed in one of the trout cabins a couple of years ago and it was "rustic": really the only complaints was the lazy-boy that didn't have a base so it was just sitting on the ground, but the kitchen was in good working order, the bathroom wasn't scary, and the linens were clean. Fast forward to this week's stay in cabin 8. I picked this cabin because from the photos it looked pretty good, and it was EXCEPT for the smell and the bathroom. I swear that this must have been AT LEAST the fifth place that sink had been installed - the basin was grody and it had the two-spout style so that you couldn't mix the water temp and that also made the water come out too close to the grody sink. The toilet seat - come on! Through the paint and to the base material. And we should have guessed by the plunger sitting next to the toilet that there were going to be clogging issues, but silly me didn't and found myself traipsing at 3am over to the public restroom while looking out for bears which we were warned about! The smell - for some reason the cabin had that weird sweet "pot" smell. Find someplace else to stay. read more

This place is awesome. For those of you that think it's expensive, look where you are. Everything has to he brought up the hill. You are pretty much in the middle of nowhere. I think the prices are close to what they are at home. Enjoy the views and the great food. Mostly burgers and pizza. I took pictures of the menu since I wasn't able to find on line. This review is written with mixed feelings, as I have been visiting for the last 28 years for a dinner while on vacation, fishing, hiking, or hunting. I have seen this place at one time with an extensive menu, excellent service, and a comfortable warm place to grab an excellent dinner in the mountains. I could get a steak here, with all the fixings, a cold glass of beer, and a warm fire burning after a long day of playing outdoors. This trip, what I found was nothing that looked like years past. Other than the decor, many things have changed. It still appears quite appropriate, however there are other very noticeable changes. 1. The menu features burgers and bar food ONLY. No steaks or adult food anymore. 2. Even though the outdoor temp was 30 degrees and snow was flying at 4:45 pm on a Thursday night in October, there was no fire, no heat. 3. Should I be willing to pay 50+ bucks to eat and continue to be cold after playing outside? 4. Did I mention I was really cold? 5. Hey, there is pizza on the menu, and pizza is good. We were happy with the pizza. 6. The service was very attentive. But, my wife asked for a side of pizza sauce, and was served a side of cold pizza sauce. She was told that is how it comes. It makes sense now somehow as it was cold inside. 7. We witnessed us, plus another couple and a group of 6 inquire about heat/fire within a 30 minute period between 4:45 and 5:15pm. All of us were told that they don't light a fire since they have to close by 8pm. 8. I have pictures of all the staff and patrons on this evening dressed in their jackets and beanies, because it was so cold that even the servers were frozen, even while working hard. 9. This place needs to realize who pays the bills. No fire or heat on a 30 degree night, a clientele that is requesting heat, well that clientele is who pays the bills. 10. Service was really attentive. Food was good, but menu very disappointing. It was just too cold inside to overlook, and the 8pm closing is not an excuse not to light a fire at 5pm. Even the wait staff was cold. Poor management, and not a chance we come back even though we will drive by at least 10 or 15 times in the coming year. read more

What an incredibly amazing place! The cabins are rustic but clean and well appointed. The location can't be beat and having reliable WiFi so close to the trailhead is unbeatable. If you have never been to this part of the world, you don't know what you are missing. Further, the BCL owners and staff are truly gems of people. I've been lucky enough to hang at the Bishop Creek Lodge annually since 2006. Our group goes up to camp and fish and hike and drink beer (lots of beer). Bishop Creek Lodge is ALWAYS a stop (usually multiple times during a trip) for ice, grocery, bait, wood, maybe a shower, sometimes to eat but ALWAYS to drink in the bar or on the patio (weather permitting). They are also an official site to weigh your catch! The service is friendly and seems genuinely happy to see us return. The food is good-burgers, grilled cheese and even steak! It's not cheap, but worth it! The stories in the bar are always tall. I can't wait to visit in 2012! I love Bishop Creek Lodge (I even bought a purple sweatshirt there last week cuz I needed one one morning for about a minute)! read more

Been driving by here for years and read the reviews about the food and glad we stopped in. The inside is really nicely decorated with mountain themes. Now for the food. I had a bacon cheeseburger and my wife the BLT. I would say the bread and bun were homemade but did not confirm that. The food was very tasty but the burger was not quite as good as burger barn in Bishop. The only draw back was the waitress sort of disappeared after our order and we had to flag her down to get some mayo. The cook delivered the food and I discovered no bacon so went to him and told him and he brought it out in about 2 minutes. Other than that they would have gotten a 5 and a better tip. It was a little pricy for what you got but you are near nowhere. read more

I believe this place is recently under new ownership & the new family is doing a GREAT job - took over like pros. We just returned from a weekend stay in Cabin #1 and had a blast! The cabins are rustic and charming, and very clean. It's not fancy, so if that's what you're looking for, motor on. But the bed was super comfy, the water in the shower got super hot and the room, kitchen and bathroom were all very clean and cozy! There was no shortage of fun stuff to do, and the owner was great about giving advice on where to hike and where to fish. We love staying in the cabin, so we can cook our own meals, but if you're up there and get a chance to dine in the lodge, I highly recommend it. We just grabbed a pizza in there, but it was OVER THE TOP delicious! You can tell the crust was from scratch, and the amount of cheese was just to die for! The general store is well stocked, so if you forget to pack something (like I did) - no worries, they have it there and are open early and stay open late! What else can I say? They wanted to charge for every little thing. Positive:Their maintenance guy is super and so is the high-school girl. You know, it's like being on an airplane and being charged for peanuts, the clip to your seatbelt and every other little item. The "continental breakfast" was lacking of many items traditionally on such a meal. They even...LOL...told people "not to take so much and save it for other people." The view and the streams are superb...but of course they can't charge for these things Do not go here. This should be your last choice for accommodations! If I could give them less than one star....I would. Obviously, the new owners have a lot to learn about hospitality, friendliness, room/cabin upkeep and listening to their guests and not arguing. Due to COVID-19 this Hotel is self serving breakfast meal kits. Given the cost already included in your stay, the Hotel should be consistent in at least a quality package . Our packages started out with several nice items including yogurt, a muffin or pastry, juice, milk, and a health bar. At the end of several days stay, yogurt and a outdated health bar was found in your paper bag. Parking was terrible with parking given to private utility trucks not staying at the Hotel. Horrible experience. So many things wrong: 1. Mice in the kitchen (kept my son awake the first night) - they were taken care of with traps but that is inexcusable in ANY paid lodging situation! 2. Awful oven - the oven knob was bent and there was hardly any temperature control, not to mention that it radiated heat into the kitchen because the door wouldn't completely seal. 3. Front room heater - the pilot light (?) was set to the point that the heater acted like it was always on and kept my son (sleeping in the front room) too warm at night. 4. The shower was absolutely the WORST shower I've ever had to use! There was hardly any water pressure AND the hot and cold knobs were so unresponsive (until the water was too hot) that it took at least five minutes to get the temperature right. 5. The bedrooms were too small for the size of beds - there was hardly room to move around the twin bed. 6. There was no creek fishing info from the front desk - they only seemed to know that fish were being caught at Intake 2 (which is not really fishing at all). 7. Store prices were ridiculous - my brother went to buy one 4-pack of beer and a cheap ($7 at most stores) bottle of wine, and he paid $45! 8. Store/cafe/bar closing at 4:00 on Mon.-Tues. - ridiculous! 9. The BBQ was the same tiny type of grill that we experienced a decade ago - and it's difficult to get a fire started in them. 10. The fishing absolutely sucked! It appeared to me that the locals (Bishop) were driving up and fishing out the creeks, leaving nothing for the paying guests! 11. "Fully equipped kitchen" (if that is how you phrase it) is at most a half-truth The owner's response was: We apologize for your unsatisfactory stay and appreciate you taking the time to bring these issues/concerns to our attention. We regret losing your business as a guest and will use your criticism in a positive manner to help us improve for future guests. NEVER GOING BACK!!! read more

This review is for their restaurant- Lunch is average fare, reasonably priced. The location is soooo cool, it's kinda middle of nowhere, fishing lodge feel with beautiful views... Dinner is VERY VERY romantic- fireplace, cozy, rustic, etc. and very good quality food! Great selection of premium meats, well done side dishes, and HOMEMADE americana dessert. This is a welcome charming and relaxing reprieve from camping. I highly recommend if you are camping in the area or have the "pleasure" of staying in Bishop- It is worth the drive for dinner for sure!! read more

My husband & I were 1st timers to Bishop creek Lodge stayed in Cabin 4- which had a total fishing "Cabin" feel to it, small but has everything you'll need! We had our own fire pit & Bbq next to our cabin which is very private and kept us nicely, definitely a plus! The grounds is very plush & maintained well, we had a tiny water outlet coming from the mountain which ran through next to our bbq and fire pit, totally cool!! The store has everything but the reason for 4 stars is for how expensive the food, drinks are at the restaurant. Our chili & Fries were yummy & the pizza was ok.. This place is super cute & convenient to Lakes, streams & creeks. We'll be back next year! read more

Gave this place a second chance, this will be my last. This place is extremely overpriced for what you get. We rented a cabin for 8 people and spent 1040.00$ for 3 nights. The cabin was outdated, fans didn't work, showerhead was like high pressure washer, 1 steak knife, doors wouldn't shut, carpet caked in dirt, don't enforce 10pm silent time, no blind in the kitchen, hot water heater set to warm not medium or hot, had to ask for new towels, and much more. They need to have at least the basic essentials for 300 a night. read more

We had the Brook cabin and Craig who I believe is the grounds keeper, went above and beyond he duties to make sure we were comfortable and gave us a heater, yes it was snowing the first few days in May. Noticed a sharp decline in amenities, service and upkeep from the Olson's ownership. Two bedroom cabin is not two bedrooms-- it one bedroom with a bed in the living-room. Important to note if sharing with other adults. Continental breakfast is just bread/cold cereal and coffee-- no juice, fruit or yogurt. No water, no service. Furniture is falling apart--store/restaurant close at 2:00 Monday- Wednesday. Door locks broken, pillows thin (super super thin)-- seems like repairs not kept up! read more

We just got home yesterday from a two night stay in the Honeymoon Cabin. It is a charming old cabin with great energy. It is one big room with queen bed, a unique picnic table, a large open space between bed and kitchen area. The bathroom was small but quaint, and the shower was clean. Overall I loved the cabin. The hospitality was a little indifferent though. When we arrived at check-in time the Lodge store was closed. We looked around and found a guy on the grounds that said the keys were inside the cabin on the table. That's it. We had planned on eating there at the restaurant but it was closed. The next morning we went into the lodge for the continental breakfast fare, and it is a really old log cabin with lots of personality. The breakfast pastries were tasty and there were several to choose from but I didn't see anything else to eat. The managers was there but not overly friendly,They did not ask us how things were or if we needed anything. We inquired about the restaurant and were told they closed at six. The saloon also closed at six. They did not seem like they wanted us to eat there.they both seemed burned out, and we felt like we were un-invited guests in their home. We were there to fish and to have to get there at 5 pm to eat and be done by 6 pm seemed pushing it. I really did want to try their steak. We ended up picking up take out from Holy Smoke BBQ in town and re- heating it after we finished fishing. When we got back to the cabin at 6:45 pm there were several patrons stilll there at the restaurant and It was about another hour before they closed.Overall the resort is charming, and I would like to stay there again, but maybe in the peak season when the hours are longer. read more

I absolutely love this place! My boyfriend and I normally camp in Lake Sabrina campground but we have stayed here a couple of times too and of course it's by far the most beautiful location ever! We always stop by the restaurant at least one time during our trip and have never been disappointed. For THOSE of you who are shocked about the wait during a holiday weekend I say REALLY? It's a HOLIDAY weekend, do not be surprised that there are other people who had the same idea as you. anyhow my bf and I have never had to wait to be seated and our group varies from 2-5 people sometimes. I love the bbq chicken meal and I have also had the steak meal, my bf gets the lamb shank and we are never disappointed. The drinks are always strong and plentiful! If you're in the area add this to your list of places to eat! They are only open for food Thursday-Sunday so plan accordingly. BAR is open everyday tho so if you're staying in the cabins and feel like being social then it's a perfect combo. The cabins are cute and cozy just enough space to wash away the fish guts and get a good nights rest after cooking a yummy meal while chatting with your neighbor! Family and friends have been coming to the lodge before the Olson's owned it and when I was told that it had been sold I was worried it would've lost the charm and lore I had heard so much about. Well, after frequenting a few times this month I'm happy to say the new owners Karrie and Canon have preserved the lodge in its original condition and are carrying on the heritage of one of California's treasures. The food and spirits are wonderfully prepared, plus the ambiance and setting of the restaurant take you back in time. I could not recommend a better establishment in the Sierras. read more

We called early in the day to ask for a reservation, we were told they were not taking reservations because of the holiday weekend. Ok, we will come up about 7 pm. The girl said you'll get seated no problem. We get there around 7, there are a lot of people standing on the front porch, with four or five dogs, winding our way through the myriad of dogs and people just to get to the restaurant entrance, rude people and their dogs! The girl tells us it's a two hour wait, and they close at 8:00pm. Wait, what? It's 7, there's a 2 hour wait, but you're closing in an hour?! So we decided to head into town and try somewhere else, we see some friends coming and tell them about the 2 hour wait and they say that's ok we have a reservation! An absolutely wonderful place for lunch. Great outdoorsy atmosphere, very friendly service (thank you Piper & Katie) and great food. My hamburger was the best I have ever had and I'm no youngster. The home made pie was absolutely incredible and we drove over 30 miles the next day just to buy a whole pie to take home. If you like beer make sure you try the Mammoth Mountain Amber Ale, it's absolutely fantastic. For our taste this is as good as it gets for a eating establishment without breaking the bank. The portions were huge but the price was not. This is not a fancy place but very nice never the less. Will come back every time we are in town.
