I was so looking forward to an amazing experience as my friend raved about this restaurant. This was a special occasion that our friend was treating us to dinner and she was picking up the bill. Walking into the restaurant was very promising as the ambiance was very appealing. The evening started Ok and we ordered the crab cake appetizer ($23) for the table. There were three of us yet only two crab cakes were on the plate. Although the taste was pretty good the crab cakes were so tiny that there were MAYBE two very small bites per crab cake. So that kind of set the tone for the evening, tiny food for huge prices. I had looked at the website ahead of time and was excited to see Blackened Scallops on the menu. I should have known better than to order scallops in landlocked Missouri even though I have had wonderful seafood at other restaurants in the area. My Scallops arrived and the only reason I did not send them back is because I did not want to spoil the evening with our friend who was gracious enough to set up the evening and was paying the bill. The scallops that arrived on my plate were three absolutely ridiculous sized TINY scallops and they were definitely NOT blackened, more like barely heated in a microwave. There were no grill marks, no golden color and were not blackened at all- pure white and mushy. They were well hidden on a small bed of roasted corn and each was topped with an accompanying tiny piece of pork belly that was actually larger than the scallops. At first I thought there was a mistake and I was given a scallop appetizer for $45, not an entree' but there were no scallop appetizers on the menu. I decided not to make a scene and insult my host so I kept my mouth shut. If I was there with only my wife or by myself I would have absolutely sent the scallops back as they were not only ridiculously small but completely tasteless. I am not a big eater and usually end up taking food home but this time I left the restaurant still hungry and totally unsatisfied. Take a look at the review by Brain L. about six months ago and you can clearly see at least six scallops on his plate in the photo, this is part of the reason I ordered scallops in the first place and more what I was expecting. His scallops appeared to be much more appealing than mine and actually looked like they were cooked correctly. All six of his scallops were at least 50% larger than the three minuscule scallops on my plate. To be fair, my wife ordered a filet and I must say it looked very well presented and she said it was delicious. Our host ordered a Salmon and it also looked very tasty. Both of their meals looked very appealing and although a bit pricey they were of sufficient quantity and looked like a proper meal. I've had a very successful career and have been fortunate to be able to afford some stunning meals at some top notch restaurants. I can honestly say this was one of the worst meals I've had. It was truly unfortunate because it pretty much spoiled the whole evening for me. Normally it's never an issue as restaurants are usually very accommodating and professional and I'm sure I would have been offered a substitute meal. In this case I couldn't really say anything because that would have insulted my host. I'm not against charging a premium price for premium food but this was bordering on criminal as the prices were insanely expensive for the quantity of food provided. I would gladly have paid more for exceptional food in decent quantities but nothing on the menu was worth the exorbitant prices. It's quite a shame because my wife and I like to try new restaurants and I was looking forward to adding this one to our recurring list. Unfortunately I will not be making a future reservation as there are other restaurants that offer quality food that is worth the price. read more

I gave Bristol's 4 stars instead of 5 for two reasons. First, we had reservations along with most of the other guests waiting in the lobby. I got the impression that reservations do not mean a lot to this restaurant. Secondly, it seems like a small complaint, but our warm biscuit was served to us without any butter on the table. By the time we had to ask for butter and then have it served, my nice warm biscuit was cold. The biscuit was also very DRY. However, the pretzel encrusted trout was delicious and the portion of fish was extremely generous. The green beans had a bacon dressing that was very flavorful, but they were too heavily coated with sauce. Likewise, the roast potatoes would have been great if they hadn't been overly saturated with sauce. I really would have enjoyed some crisp potatoes along side lightly sauced beans. The creme brûlée was ok. It was served in a really shallow dish, so it really wasn't that big of serving, but it is shareable. read more

Restaurants are a service industry. I don't really think that's debatable. When a customer walks in it's the restaurant's job to make the customer feel like he or she is doing them a favor by being there. I stopped in on Christmas Eve for an early dinner for 2 with no reservation. It was about 4:15 and they had just opened at 4. There were 2 twenty somethings at the hostess stand who clearly had never received the memo on service and should not be the customers' first impression of this restaurant. They explained that the restaurant, currently 60%-75% empty, was reserved for the night and if we cared to stay the only seats available were at the bar. We were ok with bar seating so she handed us menus and said the bar is to the right. Didn't even walk us there or check to see if there were open seats. I ended up ordering the surf & turf. I chose the filet, crab cake, Brussels sprouts, and mashed potatoes. Everything tasted fine and was cooked properly however the crab cake and Brussels sprouts were cold. The food runner chose not to bring us steak knives and we had to request them from the bartender. My dinner date got the mixed grill. We got dessert to go since we were full from dinner. If you've never tried the carrot cake at a Bristol's and you like carrot cake go now. It's the best! We were here just under an hour. When we left the restaurant was still about 25%-30% empty. When we walked out the same two girls were standing there and offered no thanks for coming or see you next time or even Happy Holidays. If I'm at a lesser restaurant I'm not really concerned but when I'm dropping $150 on dinner for two my expectations are higher. I think they really dropped the ball here by leaving incapable people at the hostess stand and by reserving too much of the restaurant for later reservations. Instead of making it look busy it makes the restaurant and staff look ill equipped to handle a crowd. read more

Happy Hour on Sunday...please and thank you. Met friends right at their opening time, 4p, to take part in afternoon meal. 7.50 apps and 7.50 drink specials. I tried the Bruschetta, Shrimp Scampi, 3 Lobster Claws (3.50 per claw) and a side order of Lobster Mac. The Bruschetta includes goat cheese and normally the gamey bite taste is too much for me, however, the Balsamic on this dish is a great accompaniment with the contrasting sweet. The dish is served deconstructed and the toasted bread points are wonderful. The shrimp scampi comes with 5 medium/large shrimp with a garlic bread served in a cast iron dish. Flavorful, buttery, garlicky just how you want it. Wonderful with the Lobster Mac side which is cheesy and creamy. Great drink specials to choose from and awesome service. read more

Absolutely, Positively one of the best restaurants in the St. Louis metropolitan area for five star service and food. Their only problem is that over the last three times we've gone there for lunch or dinner, we were forced to endure more babies crying constantly. This destroys the ambiance, intimate dining experiences, and it has made us rethink ever going back to Bristol. Tucker's restaurants in the St. Louis area discourage bringing in children and they don't even offer boosters or high chairs to cement the fact that they don't want kids there. Bristol could also implement the same type of protocol, but the last time we ate there, the cacophony of screaming babies destroyed our experience. Sure, a few parents would get their feelings hurt, but there are less expensive and hundreds of less intimate restaurants to take children in the metro area, like Chuck E. Cheese, McDonalds, Burger King, Hot Shots, etc. Additionally, We recently ate at Roberto's, another five star restaurant in South County. Roberto's also discourages SCREAMING CHILDREN at their establishment and every time we spend $200 for dinner, it is always a wonderfully pleasant experience. Our last straw was several weeks ago when we made reservations, we specifically asked to be seated in a very quiet area to celebrate a 20th anniversary. Two minutes after we were seated, the Hostess literally sat a family directly behind us with a SCREAMING TODDLER. You just cannot make this stuff up! The same heavy-set Hostess that we asked if she could seat us in a quiet place was the same Hostess who brought us the SCREAMING TODDLER for dinner. This dinner was at 8PM on a Thursday evening and the restaurant had more than twenty open tables, but the heavy-set hostess with dark hair sat a SCREAMING TODDLER family directly behind us. Our waitress came over, rolled her eyes, and whispered, "I'll get you guys to another table!" which is why we left her a $50 tip. #YouCan'tMakeThisStuffUp!!!! Chances are the Hostess is a mother and doesn't see anything wrong with seating screaming toddlers next to people who are willing to spend $200 for dinner. Amazing! Stopped in for our anniversary and were seated immediately. We had a great server and we got the check in deal of free calamari. The calamari app is literally massive- such a good deal for the huge amount you get, I think it was my favorite part of the night. The sauces that accompanied it were phenomenal. For entrees we both got the mixed grill, I subbed my salmon for trout and the potatoes I subbed for ragout. Absolutely amazing, truly a well rounded taste of the restaurant and a little bit of everything. Massive portion- two sides and 3 meats. Best choice on the menu. For dessert we got the chocolate lava cake which was on the house for our anniversary and was pretty good- comes with ice cream. Will 100% be back- especially for the Sunday brunch buffet! All of it was absolutely fantastic, but the lobster mac shifted my reality it was so good. Dallas was our server and she was personable and professional. I have visited this location multiple times, I'm so surprised that I've never reviewed it before. I went recently for a private event, a work anniversary/employee appreciation dinner. Staff greeted me at the door and directed me to the reserved seating area. I started and finished with a glass of Malbec, their pours are very generous. Next came my caesar salad. My entree was the lump crab cake with mashed potatoes and asparagus. I'm always happy when my asparagus stays warm throughout the meal. This was fresh and perfectly cooked al dente. Oh my goodness, we have relocated to Wentzville, MO and are just beginning to get out to the local eateries. Went to Bristol's in O'Fallon, Mo and the whole experience has been phenomenal! We sat in the bar area and were blessed with Zach as our waiter. The service was exceptional, as was the food! We started with an order of calamari which includes flash fried jalapeño slices and shredded carrots with two dipping sauces. It was excellent! For our entree, Laura had the Chilean Sea-bass with roasted potatoes and asparagus, again outstanding! My meal included Seared Ahi Tuna with Brussels sprouts and roasted carrots, everything was delicious! This is now our favorite place to eat and hang out and it is only seven miles from home!
