Went here during brunch hours on a Saturday. Ordered the chicken and waffles for I believe was about $16-17 and decided to do there bottomless mimosas for $13 (which was a pretty good deal considering that one mimosa was $9). Overall, the dish tasted okay. The flavor of the chicken was fine, nothing too crazy but nothing bland. The waffles were nice and fluffy. The only remark I'd say is regarding the amount I paid and the quantity I got. The dish came with 1 piece of fried chicken thigh and half a waffle (including the butter and syrup on the side). The bottomless mimosas for $13 was definitely worth it though. The mimosas themselves tasted fine and was a good balance between champaign and OJ. The service could be a better however. Perhaps it was just the time of day we went. Our server was great in the beginning of our dining experience. Solid spot for brunch. Very fairly priced with lots inclusive options for customizations (veggie substitutes, half portions, extra bacon etc). They offer FREE DONUTS. Yes, free doughnuts with jam and lemon curd as "table side bread" before your meal. That alone sold me. They are generous with bottomless mimosas (almost too much if that's such a thing!). I ordered the avocado eggs benedict. It came on a corn patty instead of the traditional english muffin - very fun twist! The eggs were perfectly poached, and the hollandaise sauce was velvety and buttery. Service was quite slow which could be due to the brunch rush. The waiters were not very attentive, but were still friendly. Great spot for girls brunch or group parties. I wouldn't recommend it for a date night as it gets very crowded and noisy in the dining room. Street parking is available but there are also lots of paid parking lots nearby. read more

Went for New Year's Day brunch. This is how my food came out. A great example of how important a garnish is when serving two foods same color-ish. The inside of the omelet was just a hunk of crab meat that had multiple bites with shells. I was sad because I live for brunch and almost always go with a Benedict. First time going to Brix Tavern, and I have to say I wasn't very impressed. The food lacked flavor, and I ordered a country fried chicken steak breakfast, but it was my first time ever not liking this particular dish. This is my go-to breakfast dish, and this one was interesting. They had their own take on the gravy, and I was willing to try it, but it was not what I was expecting. The style of the restaurant was ok. The service was pretty low, and our waiter took a while to get my Arnold Palmer served and ready. The drink itself lacked taste. Brix tavern was rustic themed and had a good vibe to it. Bruch was busy but the customer service didn't fail. My company did bottomless mimosas, and THEY ARE BOTTOMLESS. The server kept coming around and filing up their glasses. I ordered the chicken and waffles. My biggest gripe was the portion size. For $16 bucks I figured I would've gotten more chicken or at least the WHOLE waffle. I got one chicken tender, half a waffle, and scrambled eggs. I've had better but it wasn't terrible. Love the vibe of the spot. Really spacious with quite a bit of character in decor. Food took a while to get to the table though. Servers were quick to take orders and continue bringing us fluids but wish the food service was faster. Food tasted great and would come back for more. A group of 4 came in for Saturday Brunch. Service was great. Our meals were delivered-two egg dishes came out cold, mine was warm and my wife's was ok. How many people write a 5 star review on a restaurant with slow service? My visit to Brix today was painfully slow. I think because of the holiday they weren't expecting a big crowd and staffed accordingly. So yes it was slow. I had the crab and shrimp omelette. It was fantastic and worth the wait for sure. The Manager came to our table several times to apologize making no excuses. Truth be know we have eaten here several times. Our waitress was clearly upset by the delay and could have been more sincere. They paid for our breakfast, so I tipped on the full amount. Order: Pop pie, Manhattan, wings Pros: service was decent. The place wasnt crowded at all. Cons: The wings were suppose to be tossed in Thai chili sauce. However, they came as plain wings. The server did take them back and have them tossed but they were not evenly coated nor were they remade such a bummer as the wings were seasoned well. The pot pie was not what I was expecting. I was thinking a pie crust but I got this flaky croissant top that was slightly chewy and hard to dig in. The filling could have used some additional seasoning. As we sat at the bar, the kitchen door was propped open. We watched the food prep guy touch food and other items around the kitchen with his bare hands without washing them. Needed a place for our leadership December dinner to bond and spend relaxing time together. We checked with several places and chose the loft at Brix in the Pearl. They offered the loft. Once we saw a picture on the website we called and inquired if the furniture could be changed to more standard dining fare. They said they would do that. When a couple of us arrived a bit early, we sat in the bar. Waited for awhile, completely ignored by staff all standing around. Asked for a drinks menu. Still no service. Eventually more of our party arrived and we headed up to the "loft". The first glance did it for me and I headed down the stairs saying "no,no, no!" The loft has a mixture of various lounge chairs and coffee tables. So, our group was expected to eat in lounge tables, hunched over coffee tables?! I asked to be seated in the nearly empty dining room and they complied. The service improved a bit, and improved even more when I asked the waiter to 'come by more often' and reminded him that had not even asked our hostess if she would like something to drink. From there things improved. We ordered appetizers and dinner. The food, mostly pictured here, was good. The service improved. They delivered a caprese salad instead of pizza but made it right. Dessert was ordered and the lava cake really good. Bottom line, I have been to a few events at Brix and they were great. I suggested it to the group this year and must admit I was really disappointed this time. read more

Brix use to be one of my favorite brunch restaurants in the pearl for many years, sadly I came in for brunch and they had replaced the Carlton Brix skillet with some bullshit version of a "country ham skillet"... in my opinion it was the worst decision they have made. It was extremely greasy and flavorless other than the grease. Please bring back the Carlton ham skillet with mushrooms. read more

Checked out Brix Tavern with a few friends a few weekends ago and had a great time. The service was super friendly, and the bottomless mimosas were definitely a highlight. Two people in my group ordered the seafood omelette and loved it. I had the chilaquiles, which unfortunately weren't really chilaquiles--I wouldn't order them again. That said, the spot itself is really cute, the vibe was fun, and the service was solid. I'd definitely come back for another brunch. read more

Reliable tavern in the heart of the Pearl district that feels somewhat more chill than the boisterous party places around the corner on 13th Ave. (a good thing in my book). That's probably due to its location on a shady side street, but that's okay - the menu is fairly deep (burgers, salads, Sandy's, skewers, surf n turf etc) and the cocktail and tap lists are not too shabby either. Inside is a modern/industrial vibe with a large main lounge/room with tall ceilings and open windows to the street. This review is only for their ambiance, cocktails and blueberry bread pudding. Vibe is good and casual - felt like a great spot for big groups, with plenty of space and casual brew/bar spot. Server was great - it was after 9 and we came for drinks and dessert. Blueberry bread pudding - I thought it tasted great but for bread pudding aficionados, it was more dense than normal. I liked it while others who love bread pudding thought it was abnormal. That being said, they didn't mind it if they didn't think of it as bread pudding. I came to Brix with a few friends for the bottomless mimosas and brunch. The Rotisserie Prime Rib Sandwich was really good and filling. The meat was very tender and the fatty sandwich was accompanied well with the broth. We came here expecting bottomless mimosas, that wasn't really the case. Our server had told us that as long as we had food on our plates and we're eating, she'll keep pouring for us. It's not like we were being loud or obnoxious cause no one was drunk. We asked a different server to pour for us and he actually did it with no questions asked. There's a recurring disagreement I have with my girlfriend about food. Whenever we go places, she always says everything is really good. I on the other hand like to complain. And my argument to her is that if everything is considered "really good", then nothing is actually really good. How do you distinguish if everything is five stars? Well, when they served us the margherita pizza, there was no disagreement. With both immediately looked at each other like, "Uh... this looks really bad." And it was. You could probably tell from the picture. The sauce tasted extremely bland with a slight ketchup-y flavor. The cheese, it was the pre-shredded stuff, and when you get a strand it just felt rubbery. The dough was just plain old bad. I was thinking about it and it's gotta be the worst pizza I've ever had. I can't think of pizza I've had that was worse. Costo pizza formerly was the worst. Frozen pizza. Sbarros. None of them were as bad as this. I'm not just saying this, but I think that if you were _trying_ to make pizza that tasted worse than this, it'd actually be a little difficult. But who cares, right? If other things are good, who cares if they have bad pizza? Well, other things weren't good. We've never had fondue before and have always wanted to try it, and here was a great opportunity. But it was terrible. The cheese, I don't even know how to describe it, it just tasted like whatever the lowest quality melted cheese you could find at the supermarket would taste like, except worse. It was lacking salt. And they said it was cheddar? I didn't taste like cheddar. It tasted like American cheese to me. And the bread cubes were dry, stale, room temperature, and lacking flavor. Let's take a break to say something nice. The pork ribs were actually good. The BBQ sauce had a really nice bright flavor to it. The meat had good texture, although it was a little fatty and not juicy enough. It also had a pretty good spice rub on the outside. This was the best part of the meal for sure. The portions are a little small though. A lot of bone, not a lot of meat. And my girlfriend liked how the calamari was particularly crispy. Weird how some dishes could be so bad while others can be pretty good. The cheeseburger was bad, but it was normal bad. Not like the pizza or fondue. The texture of the bun was kinda tough/dry, but it did have a nice crispy and thin layer of crunch. The meat itself was pretty low quality though. It reminded me of when I was a kid going to summer camp and they'd have BBQ day for lunch, and cook all of those pre-packaged patties. Something, maybe the shape, felt very pre-packaged about the patty. They definitely aren't grinding their own meat. And the cheese was this cheese sauce that was pretty similar to the fondue cheese. My girlfriend commented that it's probably the same. And prices are a little high here. We were lucky to get happy hour pricing which is either $9 for some dishes or $12 for others. Normally the things we got were a little under $20, which is on the slightly pricey side where you expect solid quality. The service wasn't great either. Overall, please don't go here. I mean, if you want to satisfy your curiosity and see what the worlds worst pizza tastes like, that might be worth it. But to be serious, they are clearly trying to slide by with low quality ingredients. I also doubt that they're paying for chefs/cooks with culinary training. It seems like the sort of place that is ran by white collar MBA types trying to nudge up their profit margins. It's too late for me to get my $80 back, but hopefully I can save you from wasting yours. Edit: It looks like my theory of white collar MBA types might be correct! It was for Fuller's Burger Shack. And, at least according to Yelp, Fuller's is owned by the same person as Brix: Mark B. Reading Mark B's description, he owns a bunch of restaurants here in Portland: "Fuller's Burger Shack is part of Urban Restaurant Group which includes Brix Tavern, Carlita's, Fuller's Coffee Shop, Swank and Swine, Urban Fondue, Bartini, and Pearl Catering.
