I've been getting excellent haircuts at Broadway Barbers for many years. Aleksey gave me my first cut and did a terrific job so I stuck with him, but the other barbers have their own happy customers too. The mood is upbeat with lots of jokes and banter, and people on the street popping their heads in the door to say hi. It reminds me of my early trips to the barber as a kid, going in with my dad and many brothers and enjoying the atmosphere. This is what I've always looked for in a barber shop, and was happy to find just that kind of place right here in Astoria, a block away from my home. The guys and vibe were nice, but the guy with white hair completely butchered my cut. I was specific with guard numbers and only wanting 1.5-2" off the top. With the first snip, he took about 4" off, ruining the length/shape I had on top, and continued that for the rest. I didn't make a scene, cuz once the hair is gone, what can you do? Was hoping he would even it out to a wearable short cut. He clumsily rounded my back/neck, which is also not what I asked for. I had to get this fixed elsewhere the next day; there was no way to style what I walked out of there with. The cut was so uneven, it couldn't even be salvaged to how I wear it when it's short. Now I'm stuck with a really awkward short cut, waiting for everything to grow back out. Maybe the other guys or great, but was not my experience. read more

Excellent barber shop! I've been going here since covid restrictions relaxed around NYC and I'd been looking for a convenient place for haircuts close to where I live in Astoria. I try to go every 3-5 weeks, and Mark and co. have been inviting, kind, and thoughtful throughout. Mark has also gone out of his way to help take care of my haircut needs ever since I've been coming here. My only regret is that I didn't find this place sooner! Overall, they have great customer service, they're reasonably priced, and I always get the feeling that the folks here genuinely want me to have an excellent experience while I'm here. My first and only time going to Andrea's the old guy charged me the "long hair" rate but believe me, my hair was not very long and he gave me a very regular haircut. I explained to him my old barber had been closed due to a health issue and then retired suddenly so I was overdue for a cut but my hair was not that long. So he hits me up for the $25 "long hair" rate and is making his excuses for hitting me with the higher rate. I pay and tell him no worries, whatever, but I only had $26 cash on me. Then he has the nerve to say "what ? No tip?" So I give him the last dollar and head for the door. The young guy says something like "hope to see you again" No way my man....If you don't want new repeat customers be a jerk to them the first time they come in. I will take my $ somewhere else. My son Heli has been coming here since he was 1 years old. From getting his dead ends cut to getting shape-ups and haircuts... I have had no issues with my son getting his hair done. Mark is his barber and has never messed up my son's hair. BTW Mark has also been my husband's barber for years. The atmosphere is nice and the barbers will have you cracking up in there once you get to know them. I am visiting NY for a few months and decided to try this local place due to its unusually good reviews. Keep in mind that this place is cash only. It seemed pretty friendly but rather disorganized. My turn cones up. I tell him what I want. The old barber I had just casually whacks off a lot more than I asked off the top. He finishes the cut in record time. Then, after I get home and style it, I notice that there's a huge chunk of hair that is a lot longer in the back of the top of my head. I don't know if this is due to an older style he's used to but he clearly had no regard for the way my hair was cut previously. While it's not the worst haircut in the world, the lack of attention to detail isn't for me. I think I'll just spend more money at a place where they care how it looks. read more

Lets face it. My hair is unruly and often a hair professional's nightmare. It has the coarse Asian straight texture with Hispanic volume. I recently just moved to Astoria a week ago from CA and this was my first haircut here ever. I don't get how people give this a high rating? The moment I walked in I knew I should've turned around and left. But whatever ..I'm thinkin hair grows back and older people are experienced. I told him numerous time I liked how my hair was growing and to cut a little THEN use a different scissor to thin it out. My son and I went in for a trim and Mark greeted us with warmth and greetings. We felt like we were old clients. My son had a dashing hair cut similar to Neymar. Being 9 years old and a big soccer fan, he was very excited to see his mop transformed by clippers and scissors to a hair masterpiece! I had 6" trimmed from my locks by yanni. Who was sensitive to my long hair, and let me tell you something having long hair and having an old school barber cut it always makes me tremble. (The stories I could tell from my childhood) but I digress. Yanni was sensitive and removed my long locks slowly. 4" at a time until he removed around 8" to my approval. The only reason I am giving it two stars is because Andreas himself is a very good barber. However, over the weekend I went to the barber shop and Andreas wasn't there. The other older individual with white hair (not Andreas) ended up cutting my hair and I have to say it is the worst hair cut I have ever received. The guy spent 5 minutes on my hair and also cutoff my sideburns without asking and now I have a super awkward cut which will take two or so months to get back to normal (if i'm lucky). :'( read more

Bad haircuts, they rush you out in ten minutes, and it's a hostile environment listening to uninformed, ignorant conversation. If you don't go every 2-3 weeks they try to charge you more for the "long hair" haircut price. They also keep trying to have bad reviews removed from Yelp. Heard good things about Mark. People are right. Mark is the best. He even noticed a nasty ingrown hair on the back of my neck that's been bothering me for weeks, offered to "perform surgery" on it free of charge. He made sure to clean and disinfect all his tools, and my neck feels better already. Oh, and the haircut was amazing. My girlfriend said so when I got home. I have been to this barber shop twice in the last two months, and believe me when I say that you should take your business elsewhere. The first time I went was during the World Cup, and every one of the five barbers working was more focused on the game on the TV than on their clients' haircuts. The guy cutting my hair would take a few snips with the scissors, then glance up at the TV for literally 30 seconds before making some sort of remark in another language, sighing, and returning to my haircut. I got the impression that the barber was trying to rush through my haircut to get it over with as fast as possible. For some odd reason, I decided to go back to this place to give them another chance, which I would soon regret. This time, I had my hair cut by an old man named Iliyas. The Olympics were on this time, so sure enough, Iliyas was more focused on the game on the TV than on my haircut. He asked me what I wanted to have done, and I said a normal haircut. Towards the end of the haircut, he asked if I liked it, and I asked him politely if he could please take a little bit more off the back. He rolled his eyes and groaned, as if I was asking him to do me an enormous favor - when excuse me for asking him to do his job. After the haircut is over, most barbers will automatically put a hot towel on your face and give you a quick razor shave on the back of your neck and on your sideburns. Not this guy. He asked me if I wanted this hot razor shave as he was cleaning up and walking away... So not wanting to inconvenience him any further, I said no, paid my money and walked out the door. When I got back home after this haircut, I looked in the mirror, and realized then that he ended up trimming all of my bangs off. I'm 24 years old and now it looks like I have a receding hairline. Now I have to go to another barber to get this awful cut fixed. I see that there are a lot of positive reviews for this place, which is disturbing considering they charge $16 for a haircut and every one of the barbers, especially Iliyas was rude and highly inattentive. I will not be going back a third time. Buyer beware. read more
