I have been to this barber shop twice in the last two months, and believe me when I say that you should take your business elsewhere. The first time I went was during the World Cup, and every one of the five barbers working was more focused on the game on the TV than on their clients' haircuts. The guy cutting my hair would take a few snips with the scissors, then glance up at the TV for literally 30 seconds before making some sort of remark in another language, sighing, and returning to my haircut. I got the impression that the barber was trying to rush through my haircut to get it over with as fast as possible. For some odd reason, I decided to go back to this place to give them another chance, which I would soon regret. This time, I had my hair cut by an old man named Iliyas. The Olympics were on this time, so sure enough, Iliyas was more focused on the game on the TV than on my haircut. He asked me what I wanted to have done, and I said a normal haircut. Towards the end of the haircut, he asked if I liked it, and I asked him politely if he could please take a little bit more off the back. He rolled his eyes and groaned, as if I was asking him to do me an enormous favor - when excuse me for asking him to do his job. After the haircut is over, most barbers will automatically put a hot towel on your face and give you a quick razor shave on the back of your neck and on your sideburns. Not this guy. He asked me if I wanted this hot razor shave as he was cleaning up and walking away... So not wanting to inconvenience him any further, I said no, paid my money and walked out the door. When I got back home after this haircut, I looked in the mirror, and realized then that he ended up trimming all of my bangs off. I'm 24 years old and now it looks like I have a receding hairline. Now I have to go to another barber to get this awful cut fixed. I see that there are a lot of positive reviews for this place, which is disturbing considering they charge $16 for a haircut and every one of the barbers, especially Iliyas was rude and highly inattentive. I will not be going back a third time. Buyer beware. read more

Wow! Such a cool place! My son got a haircut here. Felt like you were going back in time. Ilyas was great. He did the haircut fast but really nice job!!! There was a wait when we asked in but don't worry it moves fast. There are 6 seats and people wait for their favorite barber so it goes pretty quick. My son was given a so so not so good haircut. I decided to go to this barber shop based on the good reviews. However my experience was not the best. He was given a bad haircut by one of the barbers. It was so obvious that one of the other barbers jumped in and tried to fix it. He was able to fix some part but there were some area that he couldn't fix. So enter at your own risk! read more

I've been coming to this barber shop since 2006. I even moved to Miami for a little while and would fly up to get a cut. Alex and Mark are great guys to get a cut and shave from and you even get some good laughs while there as well. I now live in Forest Hills and do not mind going to Astoria every 2 weeks. This definitely isn't a Supercuts haircut or one from the neighborhood kids that just got "out". These men are professionals. I hate to write bad reviews just to do it, but this was one of the worst haircut experiences I've had in a long time. I came to them based on help reviews. When I walked in I told them I was trying them out because my previous haircut was poor and I was looking for a new barber. So you think they would try and do a good job to keep me as a customer. I had the older gentleman who occupies the left chair. The whole haircut he seemed more interested in watching the movie they had playing on the Tv. Sometimes pausing 20 seconds at a time to watch. Not once did he measure the cuts he made. Just careless cutting. Hair everywhere. Never blowdried it off me. I had to shake it all out like a dog does getting out of a pool. $23 dollars for the 10 minute cut and quick beard shave. Didn't even shape up the beard. Just a trim for $7. When I get home, wash my hair, I start to notice the uneven patches of hair missing. Some parts shorter. Some longer. IT WAS TERRIBLE. I now HAVE A SHAVED HEAD. Had to get rid off it all. Shaved it myself. Too bad because I was trying to grow my hair out. The middle chair looks like he gives a good cut. A couple of people were waiting on him. But the 3 older guys on the end look like they just want to get thru the day as fast as possible and watch more TV then cut hair. Not to mention this place is run down. No clean. Hair everywhere. My roommate and I found this place on yelp and decided it was worth checking out from all the great reviews. We tried to set up an appointment on the phone and were told to "come whenever, just call when you're on your way." Which we did, and were fine with, until we got a text message from Mark the barber asking us where we were. A bit odd, but we didn't think much about it at the moment. We walked in and met with Mark, who joked at us "you're late.." Wasn't sure what to make of that since we didn't make a strict appointment, but we looked past it and took it for what it was, a joke. I was up first to get my haircut and tried to explain what look I was going for (simple haircut, mind you). I was halfway through explaining how I have this cowlick and that it's a problem if it isn't cut right....when I was cut off and Mark told me he would take care of it..long story short, my cowlick looks worse now, and my forehead looks way bigger than it needs to because of how short he cut it. The total cut was about 12 mins TOPS. Apparently not a long enough time to do a proper fade. Similar deal for my roomate. He goes next, and tells him what he wants....and boom, He's cut off and told "You keep talking and you're going to leave here bald...." "Haha that's a very funny thing to say in a barbershop"...said nobody........So He's in the chair for a good 14 minutes. Did not blend his hair well at all, in addition to royally screwing up the line-up on the back of his neck... Turns out he just wanted to get the heck out of there and he needed to cut a buddy of his before he left for the day. I guess he was rushing us through. Not a good first impression on new Astorians. He also kept mentioning how he had tickets to the Rangers game..well if that was the case he should have given us a hard time dependency... After all of the jokes, arrogance, the rushing, and then the sub-par cuts....to say that my roomate and I are unhappy is an understatement. It also puzzles me that this business has such good reviews on YELP. WTF YELP?! If this is the best Astoria has to offer in terms of barbershops.. I may just Bic myself. BUYERS BEWARE! This place is great. I found this place on Yelp have been coming here for about eight months now. Unassuming both inside and out, every barber here will joke around with you and each other, but will make sure you leave happy with your haircut. They are serious about your hair, but see no reason not to have a good time while doing so. Mark and Alex are the pointmen and bicker and love each like an old couple. I went to check these guys out today because of the great reviews and there was a line out the door. Fair enough, but I really didn't feel like waiting. So I went to another place around the corner (let's call them Salon B) on a whim to see if they could take care of my hair. Should have known better than to go somewhere else without checking reviews first, because Salon B BUTCHERED my head. Worst haircut I've ever had. I walked out the door and went straight back to Andreas (by now the line had gone down) and they fixed my hair within 10 minutes. I was looking for a good barber nearby, as I have been in and out of places throughout Astoria. Also, I was looking for somewhere that was open on Sundays. Andrea's is a small little family joint, great for a quick haircut. I got my haircut from Alex... he was fast, precise, and knew exactly what I wanted. He was sure to make any adjustments after finishing. Not to mention the edge ups with a straight razor.
