I heard this service is super hit-or-miss and my boyfriend and I were completely prepared for that. The key to this is to go in with ZERO expectations. It's a lottery -- you don't know what you're going to get. It's 100% worth the price nowadays considering that the cost of whatever ticket they give you will be at least $50-200 more than what you're paying. A weekend is $60/ticket (which, sadly, is considered cheap nowadays ... I miss the $25 student rush days!). A typical weekend ticket is around $150-300, so this service saves you a good bit of cash. We received an email around 11 a.m. for the 8 p.m. performance of "Chicago." We knew the movie but hadn't seen the show. To our surprise (and luck) we were issued Center Orch, Row K (about 13 rows from the stage). Best seats in the house (again, this is all part of the lottery -- you could get the best seats, or the back row balcony ... but either way it's going to be a fun night if you let it be). The seats have always been very good - either near the front of the first mezzanine or in the orchestra. Easy to use and I love the anticipation and surprise of the roulette wheel! Words can't describe how thrilled and happy we were with our first Broadway Roulette experience. It was the most simple process with incredible results. I have done Broadway Roulette twice now, so I feel I have a fairly good grasp on how the service works and what you receive. First, note that while tickets are billed at just $59 on weekends, after the ticketing fee ($7) and the $10 upgrade to cross off two additional shows (something you'll want to do if you're a person who sees Broadway shows more often than just once in awhile) the ticket is closer to $79, which is what most shows (excluding the hyped productions like Hamilton, Springsteen, Dear Evan Hansen, Book of Mormon, etc.) start at, anyway. The first time I tried Broadway Roulette we received tickets to Beautiful. Our tickets were in the back of the orchestra which I wasn't thrilled about, given that the theatre was mostly sort of empty, and that ticket prices at the box office started around what we'd paid for using the service. Similarly, my second experience garnered tickets to The Prom, which I loved, however the seats were in the mezzanine and, when all is said and done after the fees, the ticket price was very close to (if not more) the starting price for tickets to see that show in the same section. I wanted to love this service because I love to support any female entrepreneur, however I don't think it is worth the money for someone who sees Broadway shows more often than once or twice per year. This service is perfect for someone who is in town for a day or two and would like to see any show (and doesn't care which one they see), but not for the Broadway enthusiast --- unless you use it so often that a majority of shows are automatically removed for you (Broadway Roulette will never send you to the same show twice, so after you log in again after your first show, it is already stricken from the list and you do not need to remove it again). Crossing off only four shows leaves you with a lot of chances to receive a show you've already seen, and it's hard not to feel like the selection process is rigged when you a) don't get to see the wheel actually spin and b) following along on social media shows that a majority of people see the same few shows: Kinky Boots, Waitress, Head Over Heels and The Prom. These are shows that you could easily pick up a discounted ticket to using BroadwayBox or purchasing last-minute on StubHub, if not directly from the box office, where tickets usually start around this price, anyway. For example, weekend tickets to The Prom start at $69, to Kinky Boots, $79, and to Head Over Heels, just $49. I read an interview that the founder did wherein she said Broadway Roulette prides itself on being all about discovery, i.e funneling people to shows that are new or struggling that the average consumer might not visit on their own. However, someone looking for cheap/random/last-minute Broadway tickets is more likely to see one of those shows due to their low box office cost and sheer availability, so it doesn't seem worthwhile to utilize Broadway Roulette as a service if that's what you're going for. Most of the fun of Broadway Roulette is the gamble --- the chance that you might get a hot show for a low cost --- and yet the service is geared towards those last-minute impulse purchases that a consumer could easily achieve for the same price at a random show's box office if they were so inclined, especially since you don't find out what show you're going to be seeing until that same day. As an off-topic point, I was also put-off by a post I read on their website blog about what a theatre goer should and should not wear to the theatre. While the main point of the article was not to wear denim cutoffs to the show, they also bizarrely and randomly listed a number of other things patrons "shouldn't" wear, including vintage jeans, old logo t-shirts (something that, if the writer was actually as trendy as she smugly purported to be, she might know are back in style and can be dressed up quite nicely under a cool jacket or layered necklace) and leggings. For a brand that capitalizes wildly on "making Broadway accessible to everyone," it came off grossly classist and policing of what I can only assume is its target demographic --- young people on a budget. While I ultimately enjoyed both shows I wound up seeing through the service, I feel that it is not beneficial for someone who sees shows more often than once or twice per year. It is not exactly the great deal you are hoping for when you are first enticed by the flashy weekend promise of a $59 ticket, and if you keep up-to-date with Broadway news (which is likely how you found out about the service in the first place) you will already know about underrated/new shows on Broadway. I will probably plan to give BR one last try, and may revisit it in the future if some upgrades are made to the platform --- for instance, allowing for more shows to be crossed off, or an option to re-spin for an additional fee. All in all, this is not suited to the avid theatre-goer, so save your money and visit the box office, instead. read more

My friend and I used Broadway Roulette on our recent trip to New York to see one show on a Friday night and two shows on Saturday (matinee and evening). We didn't have time to research and find tickets, but we knew we wanted to see a bunch of shows, so we gave Broadway Roulette a try. We saw some of the "big" shows already on tour in LA (Dear Evan Hansen) but we wanted to have the full "Broadway" experience in a Broadway theater so we just eliminated those from our spin. At first, we were nervous about not picking the shows, but it turned out that the surprise made it even more fun. We saw a show a we had heard of (Chicago) and a we hadn't (Once on This Island). But our favorite show was the one we were least excited about -- a play called The Lifespan of a Fact starring Daniel Radcliffe. We went in not sure what to expect and ended up having a great time. If you have your heart set on a specific show, this probably won't work, but if you're not super picky about what you see or where you sit (our seats varied from orch to rear mezz), this is a really easy way to see a show, or a bunch of shows, on a budget. read more

I live in NYC so will be doing this regularly. Have also just got my in-laws and husband to do it this week. If you are not bothered about what show you see, its a must do. Oh Broadway Roulette, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways. As a former professional performer and lifelong theater nerd, one of my NYC-life goals is to see as many shows as humanly possible each season. That being said, the standard theater district offerings are pretty cost-prohibitive when it comes to making them a part of the regular social rotation. Enter Broadway Roulette. At about $50/ticket, with lots of small discounts if you keep up with their social media accounts, Broadway Roulette offers high-level theater for everybody. Not to soapbox, but as someone who genuinely believes in the transformative power of art in people's lives, major props to a woman-led start-up that is ACTUALLY putting its money where its mouth is when it comes to making theater more accessible to a variety of audiences. My roommate and I try to spin regularly (when we're in the busy season at work, that's about once a month. Otherwise, about every other week). We've gotten a great combination of shows high on our lists, and things we never would have picked -- for preference or pricing reasons -- that ended up as out-of-this-world experiences. We've NEVER had bad seats either - we've gotten mezzanine a few times as they've gotten more popular, but orchestra most of the time. (Pro-tip: make sure to schedule in extra time to grab tickets if you have Sardi's pick up!). I love that you can vary the amount of tickets for each visit for when more friends feel like coming along. I love whoever on the Broadway Roulette team is killing the social media game, and hilariously playing along when my friends and I post somewhat sassy, sippy-cup fueled posts (Pro-tip #2: You can re-use your sippy-cups at any of the Schubert theaters and get $5 off your drink; you're welcome). I love that the back-and-forth "what do we all feel like seeing?" is completely removed from the equation with the Broadway Roulette model. I've used Broadway Roulette about 8 times now and I just love it. Firstly, its ridiculously easy and ridiculously cheap. Two of my favorite things. I mean, a Broadway show for $50?? You can barely go to the movies for that. And I don't have to wait on a line all day to get the tickets? Yes, please. Secondly, I love the surprise aspect of spinning the wheel and not knowing what you're going to see until that day. I spend way more time speculating on what show I'm going to receive than is probably normal. I may or may not have an excel spreadsheet charting which days and how often they've given out Hamilton tickets. (The answer to the latter is a lot. If I told you the answer to the former, I'd have to kill you.) I've always received great seats and the customer service is also great. I also like the fact that there is a personal touch when you deal with the company - when you get your show assignment text, its from a real human being not an automated system. When you post your pics on instagram, someone always comments or likes. When you email them, they respond quickly and with feeling. There are real people behind the screen and they actually seem to care about what they're doing. That's pretty rare these days. But the thing I love the most is that they send me to see shows that I normally would not choose to see. While this may sound like a negative, it is actually the main reason why I keep coming back to buy tickets. They have taken me to shows that I've absolutely loved, that I never would have bought tickets to on my own. Prime example is the show I Rouletted (thats a word, right?) last night - Once On This Island. I had never heard of it and never would have chosen it on my own. However if you plan to see Broadway a lot more often, it more than makes up for the cheap shows. Music Man (orchestra seats!) and Hamilton I think are probably the best deals I've gotten through Roulette. I've seen a lot of flops and a lot of winners. I love seeing Broadway shows, but my budget doesn't allow me to go as often as I would like. Broadway Roulette is a great solution and a fun way to get to Broadway! I took my first "spin" with my friend Dayna, who I refer to as "Broadway's biggest fan". We negotiated which shows we each wanted to exclude, and even though we knew we would probably get something that she had seen before, we were up for the adventure. Happily, we got one of the few shows that she HADN'T seen - The Band's Visit. Sound familiar? It should, since they just won TEN Tonys last night!!! I got stuck at work and was freaking out, but my friend was able to get the tickets for us. They were delivered by the owner herself, who was extremely friendly and accommodating. We had AMAZING seats, and the show was wonderful! Really unique and the cast was remarkable. The best part is that shows you've already seen do not go into the rotation again, so the more you play, the more things you get to see! I will definitely be spinning the wheel again soon! If you love the arts, you must experience Broadway Mixer. My friends and I purchased a Private Mixer a few weeks ago and today was our day! We all received our Zoom links early in this morning and a reminder email about 5- 10 min before the start time. The hosts of the mixer, Casey and Pheobe, were so sweet and relatable. The flow of the mixer was top notch and we all had the best 45 minute experience ever. Our mixer included artists from some of our FAVORITE musicals & shows. This is a review for Broadway Roulette Family Friendly first spin. I hope my review will help tourists who are considering this option. I recommended Broadway Roulette to a family of tourists a while back. They have no experience with Broadway, so I thought roulette might be a good option for them. They spun the family friendly roulette for 4 people and got King Kong for this past weekend. For those of you who don't know, family roulette is now $59(weekend cost)+$15(family spin)+$9(fees), totaling $83 per person. I think King Kong is an excellent show, but the reality is that last week, it averaged $67.25 per ticket on playbill.com/grosses. These are all facts. Now, on Broadway Roulette's website FAQ section, they say "We do not include any partial view seats in our mix". However, my friends got LAST ROW of orchestra. They were not only extremely far from the stage, but worse, whenever King Kong stood up, they could not even see his head because of the extreme mezzanine overhang. My friends ended up paying above average for their tickets but got some of the worst seats in the Broadway Theatre, arguably quite partial in view. I am so mortified I recommended Broadway Roulette to my friends, especially since their first Broadway experience was sullied thanks to these terrible seats. Your first Broadway show with your kids should be a great memory. Please do yourself a favor and book through TKTS or use a BroadwayBox code. My friends and I have learned our lesson and will never book or recommend this company to any tourists again. read more

Here's something one needs to understand fully, which I did not when I bought my ticket for the the night of Saturday 1/22/22: you're not really getting a crack at a roulette wheel in any true sense, because that would imply you have as much of a chance getting a popular show (like Hamilton or a similar blockbuster) as you do getting a less popular show. At least you're not if this is your first time using their service (I understand the odds improve every time you use their service since the shows you've seen through them automatically get eliminated). Before paying for a ticket with Broadway Roulette, I recommend doing the following: 1) on the day you're planning to buy your Broadway Roulette tickets, go on Telecharge and for each show that you're not eliminating, look up the price of the worst seats in the category of seating you're about to pay for (in our case it would have been the last few rows of the orchestra section). 2) assume you'll get one of those shows with the cheapest seating and decide if the few dollars less that you'll end up paying for those cheapest seats will be worth your giving up the option of choosing your own show. In our example, as confirmed by Broadway Roulette on the day we heard what show we had "won" -- "Skeleton Crew" -- the day we bought our Broadway Roulette tickets (roughly a month in advance), the exact seats we got, bought on Telecharge those 4 weeks in advance, would have cost us $119/ticket (before Telecharge fees), as opposed to the $105.50/ticket we paid (due to the upcharge for getting 2 extra eliminations). When it came to this particular show, being in one of the last rows in the orchestra meant that we couldn't see the words on the many written signs that get put up on stage during the course of the play, and because there was a lot of lively/noisy audience enthusiasm/participation (that the actors didn't pause to accommodate), we couldn't hear a great deal of the dialogue. In short, this play was one of my bottom choices to begin with; and was, relative to the other plays on our wheel, of lesser popularity, with correspondingly cheaper seats in the back of the orchestra; both of which, when combined with all the viewing challenges I describe above, made the negligible savings not even remotely worth having given up my power to decide. IMHO, one is better off using a last minute ticket option, or taking advantage of some of the 2-for-1 options out there. You still get some savings, without giving up so much choice. read more

We got tickets to see The Prom. We paid $70 each with fees and the upgrade to remove two additional selections and ended up getting tickets on the mezzanine. The price on the ticket indicated $61 which I'm going to assume was BR's negotiated price as it appeared the same tickets would have been about $89 if we bought them ourselves. Not sure I would use this service again as I didn't think it represented that significant of a savings given you don't have control of what you are seeing. However if you are open to seeing anything and just want some inexpensive tickets this is a good way to do it. The play itself was fine and enjoyable. TLDR - use this site if you don't really care what you see/where you sit. Otherwise look elsewhere, because there are so many good deals out there and many shows have cheaper tickets available if you do a little research. The longer version - Broadway Roulette can be an ok option if you haven't seen many broadway shows and don't care what you see/where you sit. If you have seen several shows and want to see something new, this is not a great service because the benefits of crossing off shows you don't want to see start to become wasted, especially when you can get tickets at a competitive price while still choosing the show. Their business model is setup to keep the business at the forefront of their decision making, rather than the customer. I won tickets to Chicago via their Instagram, which I was grateful for. However, because it was free, they wouldn't cross it off on my account which was quite disappointing. It is probably the least likely show I would want to see twice, so I would would have to cross of Chicago every time I saw a show diminishing the value provided by the company. Also, while a lot of reviews make you think you will get amazing seats to all the shows, this is not the case, so don't be disappointed if you don't get that center orchestra seat you were hoping for. For example, my Anastasia seats were in the far right mezz. I will also say, it's really weird that they call their customers "babe" on Instagram. Maybe it's just me, but it doesn't feel like a great tone. I was also a little turned off by the article I read about the owner making somewhat strong judgements despite playing it off about what should and should not be worn to a broadway show. Best way to get to see a Broadway show for a great price! Owners are super nice and communication with them is super easy as they get back to you or respond to your comments immediately. We used service last weekend. I was excited to see what the show would be. I found out at 10:30 am that we would be seeing Paramour! I got a very friendly text that said have a great time, we know you will enjoy the show! They were right! Great show, seats were perfect (3rd row Mezz) and walked right thru long line to will call line and picked up tickets! I can't wait to do this again!!! Next time, I am asking for 3 seats! My husband n I tried out Broadway Roulette in September for our 15th year Anniversary. We receive tickets for Jersey Boys. Unfortunately my mother had fell and we were in the ER the night of the performance. I contacted BR through email. They told me to go pick up my tickets at the theatre any time and it's up to them . So I did that . Theatre gave us a number to call the morning of the performance we want to go. So we did that and was able to get tickets for that night. Now our original tickets our seats were for mezzanine. We picked up our tickets and to our surprise we received orchestra 4th room 2 end seats . I would differently try BR again. The experience was great with the BR team and the theatre. By far it was worth the money and the 3 hour travel time into the city. Thank you again for a memorable Anniversary. read more
