Restrooms and roomy showers were clean. We had a 25' TT and site accommodated our tow vehicle. We had 2 sites a back in (3 nights) and pull thru (2 nights). Beautiful hiking trail behind campground. We had a fire ring and location is somewhat hilly so difficult for handicap to get around. All in all a great location and easy to find. Nice general store on site. Definitely have to get some homemade pie from the Purple Pie House, blueberry, apple and bumbleberry were delicious warmed ip with a scoop of Vanilla ice cream! The Claw Antler & Hide store had very unique and cool items bought antler whistles for the grandkids. Had the best buffalo burger at Black Hills Burger and Bun but go early its very popular! For you knitters visit the Busy Ewe Farm & Fibers (605) 440-0316 awesome natural wool yarns.

The owner, his family and staff work extremely hard to make your stay as pleasant as possible. My wife and I have done 2 trips here, 10 days each. We love the amenities , peace and quiet, and location. Custer is great. A nice little treat is the owner's sons operate a food truck with amazing burgers, fries and breakfast sandwiches and....they deliver. I promise, you will not find better food anywhere in town and the price is right!! Stay here, put your feet up and enjoy!!! you will love it!!

Crystal-clear water is surrounded by massive granite rock formations, towering pine trees, and some of the most picturesque landscapes you'll find anywhere in the region. One of our favorite parts was walking around the lake on the easy Shoreline Trail. The trail is well maintained and offers incredible views from every angle. We also enjoyed walking across the historic stone dam, which provides a fantastic vantage point for photos and a great perspective of the lake and surrounding rock formations. What makes Sylvan Lake special is that it's the perfect destination for almost everyone. Whether you enjoy hiking, photography, kayaking, swimming, rock scrambling, or simply relaxing in nature, there's something here for you. The area is clean, well cared for, and easy to access. The location is also an excellent starting point for hikers heading to Black Elk Peak, but even if you don't plan to do a longer hike, the lake itself is worth the visit. If you're exploring Custer State Park or driving the Needles Highway, don't miss Sylvan Lake. It's one of those rare places that looks even better in person than it does in photographs. Highly recommended! Check out our video on our socials @reessroots

This is an awesome campground within an incredible state park…read more We stayed two nights at Sylvan Lake Campground and were really impressed, especially by how clean everything was! I couldn't believe how spotless the bathrooms were every single time I went in, it was perfect. The electric sites are fairly close together, so if you're looking for more privacy, I'd recommend the walk-in sites. The unfortunate thing about the walk-in sites are the more secluded sites (like #16, #17, and #21) require a bit of an uphill trek. It's not a long walk, but it does take a little bit of effort to get everything up there. That said, Site #21 was one of the best campsites I've ever stayed in, it was worth the extra sweat. The only reason I'm giving this place four stars is because the trail to the walk-in sites is very rough. They do provide a wheelbarrow to help carry your stuff, but the terrain is so rocky that using it seemed like more trouble compared to just walking your stuff up. Overall we enjoyed our stay and everyone was so quiet, it really felt like it was just you in nature.

Even and some come with power hook ups. We moved to a cabin after 2 days straight of rain. Clean comfortable beds. Large porch and we could dry out tents there!! Large table and 2 fire pits. Store has everything you forgot as well as things you just have to buy! Small restaurant open and they have espresso. Pool is clean and easy to sit around or splash around in. Large jump play area that keeps the kids occupied! Laundry and 2 bath houses. A definite spot to return to.

Check in was a breeze & we were shown to our spot promptly. Staff spotted us into our slot & left us to enjoy our stay. As we were in a self-contained unit, we did not accress restrooms or the shower house. The pool snd dump station are understandably closed right now. Kabins were in use. It was easy to find & access this location. It's convenient for many hiking areas, Crazy Horse, Mt Rushmore, Custer city & Custer State Park. We were greeted each morning by a bunny. The only down was loss of water on the day of departure. As we still had a rather full tank, it wasn't all that major for us, but it eould have been if empty & may have been for others. Would definitely use again.
