The pancakes were fluffy and indulgent, the Border Benedict was perfectly cooked with rich, balanced flavors, and the biscuit and gravy was classic comfort food done right. Even the strawberry banana smoothie and fresh orange juice were spot on--fresh, smooth, and refreshing. The Bloody Mary flight was a fun bonus and a great way to sample different flavors. After sitting at our table for 30 minutes, we still didn't have utensils or had anyone take our drink order. By the time we had drinks and had ordered food, it had been 45 minutes. Pro: Ambiance is nice, great music and they push the mimosas which my friends seem to like. Great OJ. Eggs are good. Cons: slow staff service. I've been to other BYC and it's not location specific. It's just slow and expect to not get a hot coffee refill. No hazelnut creamer. Gravy is more herb based, not a country sausage gravy. Lemon ricotta pancakes is NOT as described. These things are rubbery and not fluffy but flat and thin. Not sure where the ricotta disappeared to but did manage to find one small lemon rind piece in a pancake. Short stack is 2 pancakes, full stack is 3. Bottom line: would return for ambiance with company but not for the food or service. ETA: got food poisoning here. Breakfast exited both ends. Went on Friday to have breakfast 4 of us. We sat outside in the patio. It did take a while for the waiter to come over and take our drink orders . we waited quite a long time to get our meal ordered and even longer to get the food. The two eggs Benedict were OK. The breakfast burrito meal we did not eat. My wife took it home. once we open it up it Look like they put it together, but never cooked it. Took a long time to get the bill , a long time to get the CC slip, a long time to get my credit card back . I had to get up and go inside and say hey where's my credit card? Been coming here for years now with my family but this recent time was disappointing. Came to put in a table for 6 expecting an hour wait time (which is normal for this location). I got the message when we will be seating, and about 30 minutes passed and still didn't get seated with tables clearly open. We were told that we wouldn't be seated and they did not have a clear time of when we would be seated. I asked if we could sit and at least order a few drinks (thinking the kitchen might be backed up) but no we were told to wait outside not knowing when to we would get to be seated. I've been to many Broken Yolks around the San Diego area and this one is definitely my favorite! Dad and I come here about once a week for breakfast since it's very near his retirement home. I think he also likes the fact that they have mimosas. The space is large with plenty of parking. The wait staff is always very attentive and patient which is perfect for Dad since he can take forever with even the simplest of decisions. I usually get the Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon and hash browns (well-done). Dad goes for the biscuits and gravy. The serving sizes are very generous which means you're either well-fed or have left-overs to take home. I wish I knew the wait staff's names because they are all superstars! read more
