So me and the hubby decided to take a ride to the border today, we were looking for a spot to have a quick drink and a snack and we stumbled upon Steele 94. As we entered the restaurant a man came up to us and welcomed us in! We thought maybe it was a local only type vibe, but he was actually super welcoming and kind and introduced us to everyone. lo and behold he was the owner. Super rad guy, extremely personable, and passionate. It was truly a pleasure to meet him and be introduced to some of the locals. We ended up sitting at the bar to grab a drink, Shay was our bartender not only was she beautiful, and kind but she also makes the best michelada I've had since living in San Jose. We ordered a sample platter and we headed outside for the patio to play some darts.. the sample platter was amazing. It came with elote bites (which were phenomenal), habanero, wings, onion rings, and flautas. Honestly, it is some of the best bar food I've ever had. The flautas, especially were amazing.They did not skip on presentation or aromatics. The patio had just enough shade and sunlight to be warm but comfortable. We've already decided that we're going to be making a trip back to visit Shay, we spent the better half of our time there talking about motorcycles and we really enjoyed her company. We were coming here for Taco Tuesday pretty regularly for a few months. Service was always friendly until the regular bartender left the bar/found employment elsewhere. By that time, we had seen inconsistencies our fish tacos. One made it perfect, the other over fried the fish and made it un enjoyable. The saving grace was the green sauce. Sometimes, there was an off flavor with the tortilla chips (which you have to pay for- sigh). The new server never jived well with us. She was okay. But after seeing their multiple closures from the health department, and it seems like they are always closed on Mondays and Tuesdays (and last Sunday, we drove by and saw they were closing around 6, and not at the posted time of 8), it's like why even bother. I can't look past the gamble with the food and the health violations (GROSS). Also, they don't have a good house margarita, just a cheap one. Came here to try their menudo! They serve menudo daily, which is a major plus! Steele 94 is located in Campo (San Diego county) has live music every Fri and Sat 6:30pm - 9:30pm. Great customer service and such a great vibe! Their hefty portion of menudo ( $18.94) was tasty and they give you plenty of tendon, which happens to be my favorite menudo ingredient. They also include beef pata. (leg). Thankfully, they didn't stuff the menudo with too much hominy. Definitely will return again in the future to try their steak. read more

I recently stopped at Steel 94 in Jamul with a friend to celebrate both of our birthdays. We were immediately seated and welcomed by an extensive menu with various options. We started with chips and salsa and a quesadilla, which was incredible--the cheese pull on the quesadilla was amazing, and the chips and salsa were really good too. You can't go wrong with either one. My friend ordered the nachos, and I went for the Tuesday special $5 tacos, getting one fish and two carne asada. The carne asada tacos were packed with meat and guacamole; they were so stuffed I had to eat the second one with a fork! The fish taco was just as good. To finish, we had churros for dessert, which were phenomenal and comped for our birthdays, making the experience even sweeter. Our waitress, Shirleen, was amazing and really made the meal enjoyable. If you're a meat eater and you like bbq sauce then get the cowboy burger, the tri tip added was really good. Heavy on the bbq sauce, so you may ask for it on the side, but definitely done skip it. This place is so close to us and we really went in wanting to like it. Greek Sombrero was a regular hangout back in the day. How was it? It was okay. The food was okay - nothing special. The service was pretty terrible. It is obvious there are the regulars and then the rest of us poor unfortunates who wandered in expecting to be treated the same. Both our table and the one next to us (other first timers) were almost purposely ignored. The table was sticky, the floor was dirty. We were so disappointed - again, we went in REALLY wanting to love it. We won't be back. It was a couple months ago when we were here and I was reminded I forgot to write a review when I read the "restaurants closed this week for health code violations" report. When we went we weren't aware reservations were necessary because of the popularity of band playing. It was my birthday and I wanted to go there. We did get seats and ordered drinks and food. My husband felt his enchiladas were dry inside and not enough sauce. My friend had the sliders which she said were just one burger cut into smaller parts for the small bun. I have lived in East County my entire life. I am always looking for something 'different', something that stands out from the rest, a hidden gem, if you will. I had heard of Steele 94 many times and heard great things about it. I/ we finally went out to try it. I was in love with the place the second we walked in the door. It had a great feel to it and it was very welcoming. Speaking of welcoming, the owner Miguel greeted us and we were sold! We had breakfast as it is my favorite meal of the day and we were not disappointed. We enjoyed our time there so much, we returned for dinner. Once we got out of the car we were hit by the intoxicating aroma of the outdoor grill. Guess who was manning the grill, that's right- Miguel! We had a tremendous dinner and a great evening. Came here on a sunday morning, the waiter/host didn't even say hello or goodmorning. Just a "take a seat anywhere" Never mentioned her name, did not look like she wanted to be working. I ordered scrambled eggs with pancakes and sausage. The pancakes were a solid 7. The sausage was cold, and the eggs weren't even real ones, they were powdered eggs which we're disgusting. We have been passing by this place on the way home for 3 years now. Most recently the parking lot have been packed every time we drive by. We finally decided to try it last week and so glad we did. We came in and we were warmly greeted and told we could pick any table to sit. As we sat down we met the owner Miguel. He is such a humble sweet man. We talked about their new weekend breakfast menu, and he went out of his way to get us a copy. For dinner he recommended we order the Culichi Shrimp and man that did not disappoint. The sauce was AMAZING!!! I didn't want to waste any that I was scooping it up with chips lol! Tim tried their Cowboy Burger and it was so good. Moist burger and the fries was nice and crispy. We also tried their chips & salsa and shrimp ceviche for apps. It all went well with Jack and coke and their famous $5 margarita. To top it off we had a great server named Terri! She was accommodating and had such a great sense of humor. If you haven't done so, give this place a try. Nice home type vibe. I'm always looking for new places near me. I received a 2fer coupon and decided to give them a try. I was excited when I saw on their menu that they had an array of grilled meats. The menu indicated that they had Santa Maria Grill Chuck wagon. Grilled prime cuts: Tomahawk, Tri-Tip, Ribeye, Baby Backs Ribs, Chicken, Sausage, Lobster, and Surf N Turf. The only ones actually listed on the menu was 2 Tri-Tip selections. A Cowboy Burger featuring the Tri-Tip and a Tri-Tip Sandwich. I ordered the Cowboy burger. I didn't ask, and the server didn't offer any of the other grill items. My wife ordered The Two Tacos (carnitas and fish) with rice and beans meal. $15. The server returned and indicated that they were out of Tri-Tip. The server again didn't offer any other grill items. I ended up ordering the All American Burger for $15 Let's start with the tacos. The carnitas had a nice crunch to them but were very dry. The fish was nothing special especially since we were expecting a Baja style fish taco. The rice was flavorless, the beans had even less flavor. Both could have benefited from even a little salt. San Diego has some of the best Mexican food in the country, none of it resides here. The burger, ordered medium, was a little overcooked but still juicy. Again a little seasoning in the beef would have helped. Thankfully their burger sauce helped with the taste. The best part of the meal were the fries that came with the burger. Hot, crispy and tender. Neither meal was worth the $15 price tag. At best it's an $8.99 burger, and the Mexican food is to stay away from. Fortunately, I had the coupon that took away some of the sting.
