My travel partner, Max, treated me to breakfast at the Broken Yolk Cafe in Yuma, AZ. He ordered eggs, bacon, and a short stack. He found the pancakes a bit rubbery but with a good flavor. Price $14. The Belgian Waffle I ordered was light and fluffy on the inside with just the right amount of crispiness on the outside, and the flavor reminded me of scratch buttermilk pancakes. Price $11. I thought the coffee was a little bitter for my palate, but Max liked his. My second cup was the same as the first, so I'm assuming it was freshly brewed. I added another cream and it was fine. Indeed, over the leisurely course of our meal, we each drank several cups. Two mugs of endless coffee was $7. The menu offerings looked good. To be sure, I will return for another helping of Belgian Waffle, and also to sample the Monte Cristo and the various Eggs Benedict selections. First time coming here after seeing their mimosa billboards for the last few years. The food was just amazing and in large quantities especially for the price. The service was better than most 4 star restaurants I've been too. I waited about 4 minutes to be seated and like 15 minutes for my food and drinks. The server was constantly checking up on us but not to much that it was a bother. The place over all is large and offers its own parking, free wifi, and outside dining if you wanna enjoy this weather before the heat kicks in. We've been looking forward to this place opening for quite some time. Good breakfast is hard to come by in Yuma, so the well-known Broken Yolk name was a welcome sight on 16th Street. There's plenty of parking, the restaurant interior is very spacious, and there are lots of people on staff. As is expected for a brand new establishment, Broken Yolk gets full marks on cleanliness. We were seated as soon as we entered, albeit in a horseshoe booth. We would have preferred a table, but that's okay. Our friendly server took our orders shortly afterward. The drinks came out first. I ordered a black coffee with a glass of water. The coffee was excellent! Strong, bold blend. My fiancée got a mocha latte. This piqued our suspicions, for a "mocha latte" really shouldn't be a thing. Indeed, what arrived was a tall, iced chocolate milk. Nice, sweet flavor, but I couldn't get a hint of caffeine. Needless to say, a trip to the corner coffee shop was in order when we left. I ordered a custom omelet. I'm glad build-your-own options are available, for none of the options on the menu caught my interest. I requested American cheese, bacon, mushrooms, and tomatoes (sound familiar?) with homefries and wheat toast. Fiancée got the sope benedict with homefries. Then we waited. And waited. And waited some more. Yes, to be clear, the wait was long. And, when the food did arrive, it was not hot. This tells me that it was [probably] made in good time, but it spent a few too many minutes under the lamp. However, I'm not taking away from the rating for this one. They've just opened, it was a full house; these are busy times for the staff. The timeliness can only improve from here. Onto the food itself. I actually thought the omelet was quite good. It was packed with ingredients, which I liked. Not too much cheese; the bacon was savory; tomatoes were refreshing. Here's where we ran into some issues: I have to say "no" to the homefries. There are many ways to make homefries, and Broken Yolk's method missed the mark for me. These were thinly sliced, unseasoned potatoes. They were abundant in volume but devoid of flavor. They have lots of other side options, so I'll plan on something else for next time. The same goes for the toast -- the wheat toast didn't strike me as any wheat toast I'd recognize. I think next time I'll shoot for the English muffins. Unfortunately, my fiancée could only enjoy half of her entree. The sope benedict was curiously difficult to cut through. Despite the good flavors and perfectly cooked eggs, the toppings cooled and dried very quickly. I'm afraid it was a no-go. So, as truly as it can be said, Broken Yolk gets 3 stars for our inaugural visit. Here's a recap: Service and coffee were excellent! Omelet was good. Homefries, toast, sope benedict, and latte left something to be desired. I think we're willing to have another breakfast here in the future. Broken Yolk Cafe has several other options on the menu, so perhaps we'd do well to try something different next time around. Until then, I'd encourage Yuma locals and visitors alike to pay these kind folks a visit. Definitely get the coffee. Stay caffeinated, my friends. read more

The Broken Yolk! Oh my freaking goodness! This place is incredible! Although they aren't officially open yet, we were able to get a taste of what the real experience is going to be like. From my perspective, they are more than ready to open up. The customer service was immaculate, The location was perfect, The facility was spotless, but the food, the food was desirable! Absolutely delicious! This is officially my new favorite breakfast place! The owner was extremely pleasant, upon arriving he personally greeted every individual and wanted to know OUR story; where we came from, what we do, and how we heard about this piece of heaven. He made us feel right at home, as though we were family. We even had the grand opportunity to meet the founder of the entire establishment which I'd consider an honor. Our waiter was Casey and he was on top of his game. He was interactive and involved. Not a single drink was left empty and all requests were fulfilled. He also convinced me that the omelet that I ordered was, in fact, delicious and he was not wrong! He also suggested to add the combo when my girlfriend ordered the classic toast but also wanted eggs, thus saving us money. Broken Yolk finally opened in our town. They opened less than a week of our visit. Very friendly welcoming committee. A true test of a restaurant is ordering the most difficult item on the menu, which in my opinion is poached eggs Benedict. More coaching and practice will improve consistency. One egg was under cooked and the other was like a hard boiled egg. The rest of my Sope Benedict was delicious. I hope they add some flavor to their hash browns as well. For only being open less than a week, the staff did an amazing job. Only suggestion I do have, is when 2 people are at a table and one asks for more tea, the server should always ask the other guest, if they would also like to top off their glass.
