I had Brookline locksmith install two Medeco locks in my condo three years ago. I've never had a lock come loose and basically disassemble, Medeco or otherwise. When the guy came, he didn't align the bolt well with the receptacle in the door frame (sorry, I don't know the correct lock terminology). So it was never quite right. I should have followed up on it then, I know. But the lock worked. Until now -- because it has fallen apart. Brookline locksmith didn't handle my being upset well when I called them, which if you ask me, is basic customer service. Not everyone is going to be happy with you and your work. And they CHARGE WAY TOO MUCH! I found another local locksmith, well rated on Yelp, to repair the lock. I would not use Brookline locksmith again -- except, I suppose, to have keys made (if I lived in Brookline). read more

Brookline Lock Company solved the problem of installing a lock on my very old, odd-sized door. The price was reasonable and they went out of their way to find a solution that would be affordable. Marshall did the design and estimate and Sergey did the installation. Sergey did an excellent job of installing the lock itself, not easy because the door was in poor condition. One of their owners/technicians asked to block the driveway to my (small, fledgling) business. I politely said no and suggested other places he could park. He completed his work at a neighboring business, then came into mine. He told me he was very interested in replacing his old ________ asked me about five minutes' worth of questions about one of the lower-priced items we sell. Asked the price. I told him. He said "nah". I asked him to make me an offer. He said "not interested", smirked, and walked out. Apparently the appropriate response to nit getting your way is wasting other business owners' time. I would discourage anyone from using the services of this locksmith. We had reason to contact the owner, who was rude, patronizing, and dismissive of our concerns. He did not follow through on promised return phone calls. Customer service is clearly not a priority here. There are other area lock companies. I'd go there! read more

I've gone here almost weekly for 3.5 years to get keys copied for my work. The service was always very no frills, but I don't mind that. What I did mind was coming in one evening at 4:55 (checked my phone clock) and being screamed at by the owner before I said a word that I was too late, they were closed and they couldn't help me. I've since taken my business around the corner to the hardware store on Washington Street and am much happier. read more

TOTAL RIP OFF!!!!! Replaced 2 locks and charged $400 in labor. Was quoted $185 per lock and got charged $205. When I had the service tech call to verify the cost I was told if I wasn't ordering additional locks that the price would not be adjusted. I went there to get keys copied and came out with so much more. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and helpful, the store well stocked and well organized, and the prices are fair. I found this store to be much more helpful and have more actual hardware items than any of the True Values that I have been to in the city. I can't get anyone from Brookline Lock to come to my house! I live in the neighborhood and need to replace my front door set. I bought a brand new mortise set (from Raybern, not Brookline Lock). I walked into the shop last Thursday and was told "next Wednesday." Today is Tuesday. Since I had not heard back, I called again to make an appointment. Today Marshall said "next Tuesday." It's getting ridiculous. He said they are very busy installing locks in buildings that are being flipped. That's fine, but how about servicing the local people in this neighborhood? Not enough dough in it? Maybe it's because I didn't buy the Baldwin set from them in the first place. I would not recommend them. There is a bunch of one-star reviews and I totally agree with them. My opinion is that some of those 5-star reviews are questionable. Their total rating even with that is still only a 3.1 which is 60%, that's a "D" in my opinion!. They were supposed to come this morning within a 1-hour time frame. They did not show. After calling them, they said they would get back to me in a few minutes. Never happened! Had to call them again, but still they couldn't give me a straightforward answer. On top of that, I had this feeling that my time didn't matter! The locksmith showed up an additional hour late and got the job done in short order. Luckily it was a very simple job. It's hard giving a negative review because it could affect a company's business, but it seemed to me that they (management/customer service) couldn't care less. read more
