My friends and I recently tried out Brooklyn and the Butcher. The service was amazing. The servers were well versed on the menu, made good recommendations, and were attentive without smothering us. They were communicative about when the food would be out and everything ran really smoothly. I got the sirloin with potato and chopped salad. I loved the salad and the potatoes were good. I felt that the steak was a little tough, but it was cooked to the perfect temperature. The atmosphere is great for a date night or fancy night out with friends. Amazing as always! Tonight we tried a few new items on the menu plus a few classics. Starting with a classic Shrimp Cocktail (love this but be warned the horseradish will take your breath away, but it's totally worth it!) and new to the menu Oysters Rockefeller (very enjoyable). For the main course I enjoyed the new "Pesto" Ravioli. This dish is incredible. The pesto mixed with the tomato raisins (like sun-dried tomatoes but better) ah-mazing! Waitress is great, only reason for the 1 star, Just not sure how at 5pm on a Sunday with 3 tables in the restaurant you are out of 2 main items Spring Mountain Chicken and Corn tortellini. Bread was ok, cesar salad at $12 was watered down Best part for me was the Crab cake that I settled for to have as my main course. Flavor in the actual crab cake, enough crab meat and the aioli, bit spicy brought out the flavor. Creme brulee is very tiny and the top was burnt. Cheesecake crust is too thick and takes away from the flavor profile. Was like eating a block of cheap cream cheese with a drizzle over it. Manager stopped by most other tables and never bothered to look our way. Not sure if it is because we are dressed in sports attire- which should not make a difference. For the money their are other places to eat that are more flavoranle and the managers care for teir guests whether you just stop in or have a reservation. A lovely place for a special dinner. Even though we don't normally order steak in a restaurant, we decided to go full-on steak experience. The shrimp cocktail sauce was very spicy as advertised, but the four large shrimp were very flavorful without it. My husband loves the heat, but I don't. The salad was wonderful. The loaded baked potato was just ok, not enough loading. Nothing compared to the steak, the Creekstone Farm Ribeye. It was perfection, cooked to a medium rare, tender, and extremely flavorful. Visiting from out of town and found this gem. Our server, Anna, was so warm and welcoming- walked us through the somewhat "confusing" menu (reason we deducted one star). Had a great experience at Brooklyn! This was my first time in and the food was delicious. We had reservations for 3 on a Saturday night at 6:00pm to celebrate a friend's birthday. When we arrived we waited about 5 or so minutes to be seated. The restaurant itself was very pretty and clean. Our server was very nice and helpful. He went over a few drink options as well as the night's specials. I really appreciated how knowledgeable he was of the menu. We decided we would each get our own entree and share a few items off of the "sharables" menu. I highly recommend the brussel sprouts- the portion is large and they were delicious. After dinner we decided to get a dessert to split. Our server recommended the Vanilla Bean Panna Cotta so we gladly said yes to that. At that point the restaurant was full and it took about 20 minutes for us to get the dessert. We were chatting so we didn't notice how long it was taking so towards the end we asked if we could cancel the dessert. Luckily, the dessert was making its way to us. If you have a chance, I highly recommend the Panna Cotta. It was flavorful, light, and was a great dish to end the evening. read more

The charcuterie was out of this world! The craft cocktails are one of my favorite offerings of the menu / always fresh and innovative. The service was 5 stars! Our waitress was so genuine and engaging. The filet was not the best we have had there, and fondant potatos were not cooked all the way through...however? This is a place I have overlooked for a while, and wow I am glad I had a chance to try. There is a good chance this might be the best dining experience in Clark-Floyd county, at least it's the best one I have been to. Talking about the food, this is a nicer restaurant, so all the dishes are at least 20-30 dollars. But, I have a feeling you won't be disappointed. They have a lot of red meat dishes here which I do not like, so I went for the salmon. This might have been the best salmon dish I've ever had, even beating out places that specialize in seafood that I've had previously. Everyone at my table was also satisfied with their entrees. We had some desert as well, getting bread pudding and some chocolate cake. The bread pudding was the stand out here. It's topped in this bourbon Carmel sauce that is truly amazing. One of the better desert dishes I've had. The service here is impeccable. They also acknowledged my fiancés birthday so that was nice of them. Overall, this place is great. I saw a few reviews saying the steaks were undercooked compared to the way they were ordered. I could definitely see this, however it was fine with the steaks we ordered. Another person in our group got the salmon and said it was good, but the portion was small. The sides were all super good. I loved the brussel sprouts!! We ordered dessert and it was all so good! They even brought everyone a chocolate covered strawberry for my birthday. Our server was great and very nice. She definitely gave us an appropriate amount of time and was very helpful. Brooklyn and The Butcher proved to be a fantastic dining experience. The restaurant is gorgeous and has a fantastic menu. The hostesses and server were friendly and knowledgeable. The only thing I hate about solo dining is that I can't order everything I want. I had to pare down my original intent to just the sirloin baseball cut, mac and cheese, and chocolate hazelnut cake. Everything was delicious. My steak was cooked just the way I liked it and it was great, though I could've gone for the zhug addition. Mac and cheese was super cheesy and flavorful. Bread was good. I loved my dessert, but couldn't finish it. My drink, the Isn't Shiso Lovely?, had gin, shiso, and glitter, three of my favorite things, plus it was purple, which is my color. I was so hopeful but it just didn't deliver. My husband and I drove over an hour for our date night. We showed up early so we accepted a seat in the bar instead of the dining room, which turned out to be a good thing due to the amount of kiddos in the dr! Love kids, just not that night! We were looking forward to the live music posted on their website but were told it's only on the patio during warmer days, so no music. The bartender was our server and seemed annoyed that we were there. My hubs ordered a steak and broccoli, I ordered a wedge salad and lobster bisque as well as the "thyme cocktail ". The cocktail was OVERWHELMINGLY thyme. Like whoa!!!! Nearly undrinkable, so I switched to wine. My husband was underwhelmed with the steak given the price, yet overwhelmed with the side of broccoli as it could've fed 4 people!!!!! The lobster bisque hit the spot for sure but I was disappointed that the wedge salad had bagged bacon bits on it and not fresh bacon, especially given the price point. The kicker was when the server dropped the dessert menu at the table, and said, I'm obligated to give you this!"..... interesting. When we hollered at him that we would like to take the bread pudding to go, he looked at us surprisingly, and said, "oh! It worked!"... We ate the bread pudding when we got home and it was delish!!! Also noticed a gentleman that came to sit at bar while we were there and asked to have channel on tv changed. Visibly annoyed, the bartender went to ask the hostess to change it. The man was never asked what he wanted to drink, and I noticed shortly after, he was gone. I assume he left. Poor guy!! The server came and took our drink order, took 20 minutes for the drinks to arrive then another 30 minutes for the server to come back and ask if we wanted to place a food order (we finished our first round of drinks at this point as well). The server was apologetic and did offer to comp the appetizers. We did have oysters and a charcuterie board. Both were good. Then the main course, we ordered flat iron steaks which did arrive very good. Sides are à la cart here. We had Brussels sprouts, broccolini and mashed potatoes. The broccolini was good, the brussels sprouts were burnt and the mashed potatoes were dry. We have loved this restaurant since it opened but I wanted to do a review bc of the service we received last night. The power went out shortly due to a surge in town & if you've been here, you know they have a partially open kitchen. The power surge caused smoke to fill the dining area & caused the AC to go out. This is a historic building so it takes awhile to cool back down. The staff updated us continuously on the situation, comped part of our bill & still made my birthday so special! They were so kind & working so hard to make sure everyone still had an amazing dining experience. We love to support local businesses & this place always goes above & beyond! Over the last few years me and my wife decided that on our birthdays and anniversary's we are gonna start knocking off the high end steak houses in our local area of Lousiville . My birthday just came up and this time I decided to cross the river to Indiana and try the cooly named Brooklyn and the butcher. So we made a reservation for 5pm. Upon walking in this beautiful restored building is an eye grabber. Very beautiful and elegant decor. We were seated immediately at a table that had a birthday card waiting for me. Our server was very nice and on top of things. Kept our glasses full and helped us with any and all emu questions. We did decide to go with an app known as shrimp toast. The shrimp toast was unique and different but to me it just wasn't very good. Almost tasted like stove top stuffing on wonder bread with a hint of shrimp. Seemed like a kitchen experiment someone does when they are at home and hungry with not much to work with. For our entree I ordered a medium rare ribeye. They undercooked quite a bit. More rare then medium rare for sure. Very bloody. Which I should of sent back but being a kid who grew up with a mom who sent everything back at Restaurants the awkwardness of witnessing that makes me hesitant to do that. But I really should have. It's a $50 plus steak so it should be cooked right. At all the other high end steak places I've been to the one thing that's always right is they will cook the steak the way you order your steak. Plus the next Morning I had a bit of gurgles in the belly. So I'm sure that's why. Either that or the shrimp toast. Either way I was not a fan of the steak either. My wife got the Au Poivre (New York strip). Hers was cooked correctly and she did enjoy it. Of the 6-7 other high end steak houses in the Kentuckiana area she had this one last as well though. She said hers was still really good though. I wanted to love this place. Very cool name, very cool building and I love a great steak. The steak just wasn't great. Service was good and high end and so was the vibe. For my birthday after turning down desserts they did give me two complimentary truffles which were pretty good. Better then the shrimp toast and my ribeye for sure. Overall, I was disappointed in the food but still had a nice luxury experience. Maybe we just went on a bad day. Our area is pretty rich with nice steak places so there are options. I loved the flavor of my mimosa but the bubbles were a little lacking, next time I will order with less juice - my server promptly brought me more bubbly to remedy the situation! FOOD: Respectable variety with both a shaved steak sandwich, several cuts of steak + eggs and a steak omelette. There is a veggie omelet but would love at least one other non-meat option. My steak omelette is deliciously savory and the hash was the perfect small potato cube consistency to soak it up. Hubby's sirloin was a baseball cut and perfectly cooked with béarnaise. His over medium eggs were just right. SERVICE: prompt and courteous. Our server and hostess were great. We snagged a reservation on Open Table same day (I expect it will become busier and more notice will be needed). ATMOSPHERE: relaxed and not too fussy (hubby wore shorts and a tee). Being our first time at Brooklyn and the Butcher, my wife and I arrived a few minutes before our dinner reservations, so we headed into the bar while our table was prepared. My wife really enjoys trying different cocktails and B&B has a great selection. Sine it was her birthday, she had the option to try them all.. She started off with the Stir Crazy , which according to her was very good, and ordered the Butcher to take to our table with us. Once we were seated, our server, Christian came over and presented our menus and asked if we needed additional drinks ( I was still nursing my rum and coke, since I was driving as usual). After perusing the menu, we decided to start with Baked Goat Cheese, and yes it was amazing. According to my wife she could have made a meal out of the goat cheese by itself. I ordered Lobster Bisque, which was very good as well. For our entrees, we both selected the 12oz Ribeye, with brussel sprouts, mushrooms and twice baked potato. The steaks were cooked perfectly and had a fanatic taste. My wife added Kenny's Smoked Bleu Butter to hers. I prefer to taste the meat unencumbered by extras. The steaks had no waste at all. The sides were fantastic as well. And of course Christian was a fantastic server. All in all B&B provided us an excellent birthday dinner. My wife continued to try the different cocktails... Those that read my reviews regularly know that I look for value in my meals. Tl:Dr the value is lacking. We came to celebrate a one year anniversary. We had some $$ to spend after the holiday season and thought we would treat ourselves to something special. It was truly a once in a lifetime evening. We arrived and were promptly greeted and seated. There was a note from the owners on our table thanking us for choosing to celebrate with them. While cute and thoughtful, it was unnecessary as it took up table space. The restaurant is dimly lit with grey walls and black and white themes. A true fine dining atmosphere but not my style. We started with the lamb meatballs, yule shoot yer eye out, and an espresso martini (not pictured). The lamb meatballs and the labna are 10/10. Honestly, the meatballs are not needed. The labna was amazing. Strong notes of sesame paste, likely tahini, and citrus forward with a subtle sweetness from the pomegranate. This was the highlight of my night. The yule drink was not as good. A sweet wine tasting version of a cosmo. The wine really drowned out the vodka/Cran. The martini was really good. It was well balanced and could be dangerous. We then split the lobster bisque and steakhouse salad. This second/third course was very pleasing as well. The split portion was plenty for 2 people and we really enjoyed the bisque. Again, it was well balanced between the lobster flavor and tomato. The salad was a salad. The ranch had a homemade flair. We didn't confirm, but it was a good ranch. The main event was the American wagyu and the filet. I was excited to, for the first time, try wagyu and compare it to a filet. The wagyu lived up to the hype. It was melt in your mouth amazing. Unfortunately, it made the filet taste mediocre in comparison. Both steaks were cooked appropriately. I have my gripes but it's a me thing, not a restaurant thing. Finally we come to the real disappointment of the night. The asparagus and the Mac and cheese were not good. They were just there. Bland and lifeless. Yellowfin Tuna Tataki - not normally my thing but really good, packed with flavor. The apple was surprisingly good and made the dish. Butcher's Steak Tartare - amazing one of the best tartare's I have had. Cut and marinated very well with a nice compliment of the toasted bread. Oysters - really good with homemade cocktail sauce and a great value. Mussels - these were good just not my thing, lots of flavor but had a little too much lime for me. Cranberry Walnut Bread - Im allergic to walnuts so didn't try this but the butter with the salt was amazing, I used it in the leftover crostini's we had from the mussels. Also the table loved this bread so much we took the last three pieces home! Prime Ribeye - yes there are 6 stars there because it was that amazing! Perfectly cooked inside, nice sear on the outside packed with flavor and super tender. Obviously the star of the show and amazing since it's what they are known for. Mushrooms good but not my thing and felt a little extra greasy Twice Baked Potato the best twice baked potato, crispy outside skin, mashed insides and truly loaded! I really wanted to do a 4.5 but that's not an option so I went with the 5 due to the fact that there is a shortage of workers right now. I made a trip across the river into New Albany to try Brooklyn & The Butcher. We got there a little early so it was nice to walk down the streets and see the beautiful architecture and other businesses in the area. It's a really nice stroll if you have the time. Brooklyn & The Butcher is on the corner located in the Windsor Hotel. The smells coming from this place was so amazing. The outside is beautiful. I took as many pics outside as I did inside. I love the feeling of walking into a historic building and just feeling the history. This place has it. It's special and the staff make you feel special the moment you walk in the door. I'm glad I took the time to look over the menu prior to dinner. There is a large selection of choices to choose from. They have apps, small plates, steaks, entrees, sides and added extras. The items we chose were the Wedge Salad, Farro & Arugula Salad, Ribeye, Asparagus & NY style Cheesecake with Bananas Foster topping. So let's get into it.... The salads were great, fresh ingredients, perfectly seasoned and just the right temperature. The Ribeye was cooked perfectly and the flavor....on point. It was delicious. The asparagus was cooked to perfection. So the 5 star rating was based on the excellent service and the above. But y'all, let me just say the cheesecake was less than desirable. Now to be fair the bananas foster topping was excellent (you could get cherry, chocolate or caramel I believe as well) the ACTUAL cheesecake was horrible. I'm a baker and you have to let the ingredients, especially cream cheese, come to room temperature or there is ZERO way the chunks in that cream cheese is gonna break down when you add sugar and try to cream it. I literally was picking out chunks of cream cheese and putting in on the plate. So boo on that, it was horrible. However the French press coffee was divine and the whole experience made it worth it. We decided to have an early Valentine's Day dinner at Brooklyn and the Butcher last weekend. It did not disappoint. The Crab Tagliatelle was absolutely delicious. I know it's fine dining but I wanted the casual/family style portion of this dish. My husband had the lamb meatballs. He said they were a little over cooked but the sauce made up for it. The Le Monsch drink is so popular and delicious that they have it on tap and I see why. The restaurant has a romantic aura. After eating at their sister restaurant (Exchange Pub+Kitchen) twice this weekend, we couldn't wait to try Brooklyn and The Butcher. It turned out that our opportunity to do so was for Sunday brunch today (6/26/2022). We made reservations for 10:00 (their opening time) and found ourselves the center of attention for a half hour until the next party arrived. Louisville, what's wrong with you? This place is terrific, and you're sleeping it away! We met Hannah, the General Manager, at the desk, and then were cheerfully handed off to Bryson, who took wonderful care of us until we left. My spouse had The Butcher's Plate, which came with a nice assortment of eggs, sausage, bacon, toast, and fingerling potatoes. I ordered off the side menu, and got two slices of beautiful brioche French Toast, the Kentucky sausage, and two eggs over easy. Bryson kept the coffee and water coming, checked in on us regularly, and made us very happy indeed. He mentioned that there was a jazz vocalist and keyboard player on the patio (see attached photo), so once we finished our leisurely breakfast, we wandered out there to enjoy Carly Johnson and her associate making their way through jazz and bossanova while we sat and admired. As is also the case with our servers at Exchange Pub+Kitchen, the attentiveness and anticipation displayed by Bryson was exemplary. This was a wonderful experience! My boyfriend picked this spot for my birthday! We started with the goat cheese and we both highly recommend it. With the ample taste of goat and the frilly chilling texture of perfection, this cheese dip will take you on an adventure of a life time. You will cross the cosmos of crunch as you bite into the fluffy Italian bread. You will see colors you've never imagined with the zest punching your taste buds one after another. You might think it's over but the taste will linger on thy supple tongue for an eternity. He got the mushroom pasta and fries. He says the truffle fries were pretty good (like a night out at the bars which did not include an awesome story to tell at the family dinner). He said the mushroom sauce was good, but needed a little zest. It lacked depth, like the 2nd dimension there was no way around it. Though he may applaud the chef he wished it swept him from his chair the way the goat cheese dip did. It felt like cheating on a good time with the same old guy in high school you kept getting back together with. I ordered the 8oz steak but they brought me the ribeye on accident. It was delicious! With mouthfuls of bloody flesh and grilled fat I became entranced in what I would call the moment of a life time. Perfect from entrance to exit I say. The flesh was a perfect medium rare and was still sizzling as they brought it out. I believe this steak was meant for me... my destiny. I got the chopped salad and asparagus with Béarnaise sauce and oh my gosh, that sauce was amazing. Right then and there I thought of leaving my boyfriend and marrying this sauce on the spot. He's never pleased me like that. I dipped the steak in it as well! They brought us 2 chocolate strawberries for my birthday that were yummy! The crunch of the frozen chocolate burst into bright fruity strawberry which then burst into tears as the juices flowed elegantly through my mouth and into my throat though I wished it stayed and danced on my taste buds a while longer. Also, we both love Diet Coke and the waitress brought us out two each at one point! Though we may have wanted the whole machine. Great service and can't wait to go again! I shall dream of this for ages to come. Wishing anything and anyone could possibly live up to this would be unfair to anything living or existing. I am utterly heartbroken that I cannot have this for every meal. I must kidnap the chef and have them make me all my meals. Or I will become an apprentice and learn the true way of Brooklyn and The Butcher. read more

My friend had her birthday dinner here. The staff was nice. The only issue that we had was everyone's food was warm and some complained about the food being bland. We ordered the charcuterie board as an appetizer for the table. It was good. The lamb meatballs were a hit. I didn't taste them, but the group ordered a second round of them. I made up my meal, I ordered the lobster tail and mashed potatoes. My food was good it would have been better if it was hot. The restaurant is a nice vibe. We went on a Tuesday night and it wasn't a lot of people. read more

Was not too happy when we ordered martinis and they came out 3/4th full. And in a small glass! I wanted to ask if I could have the rest of it lol. The restaurant is very nice inside and the bar was nice too and separate from the restaurant. I thought I ordered a chicken breast but it came out as a huge leg and part of a breast. The salmon had a weird sauce that just didn't go with salmon. It was something cucumber. All in all I guess since it's a steak place that's what we should have ordered but we don't eat steak. read more
