Tonight the family and I decided to dine at a Louisville staple, Pat's. Walking in the doors of the 1800's carriage house turned steakhouse in the 1950's (became Pat's in the 60's) we were greated by Pat, himself. Pat still works the steakhouse daily and actually was the one who took my reservation when I called days earlier. You can taste and smell the nostalgia upon entering. The service and staff is too notch and so if the food. Each table has a bowl of breadsticks. If you know, you know! Those little crunchy sticks are in some of my earliest fine dining experiences as a child and they taste the same. The frog legs were crisp and juicy. Our shrimp cocktail was delicious, perfectly brined and chilled. For our entrees we ordered the filet, lady filet, and lady strip (lady cuts are 2-3 ounces less than regular) with eat entree coming with two house made sides. We all got the Lima beans and they were so good. Seasoned to perfection! Our steaks were tender and cooked a perfect medium and medium rare. As the place filled you could tell that Pat's a a tradition with many diners coming back to celebrate a life event where they always have or a dinner out at their favorite place. If you're looking for a great steak dinner with exquisite service with a hint of Louisville nostalgia then Pat's is the place you need to try. read more

We went to Pat's for our anniversary and had a delicious meal. We made a reservation just to be safe since it was a Saturday night but we were the first ones in there, so if you go early enough you may not need a reservation. Our waiter was very friendly and made good recommendations when we had questions. It's very old school on the inside so if you're looking for a modern, hip restaurant then this is not for you.... but it's what we wanted! Pat's is a nostalgic place worthy for any special occasion or simply to enjoy a delicious dinner. The wait staff throughout the establishment is top notch, they knew the menu and sold it well. Portions are abundant and many are served family style for the table to share. Meatballs and sirloin sliders from the appetizer menu were excellent! The bacon wrapped filet for the main course was every bit of 12oz, super tender and cooked perfectly to order but needed a little extra seasoning or accompaniment such as maître d' butter to bring it to full perfection, hence the loss of one star. While I'm going to admit (probably to condemnation from other loyal patrons) that Pat's isn't the premier steakhouse it once was, it's still a spot where the classic atmosphere and personal touches go a long way. If you want the old-school steakhouse feel, this is it. Staff wears jackets, it's dimly lit, pleasant music, Pat will personally make the rounds to check in on you...all good stuff. If I could stop at the ambience, might be five stars. Food is good but not where it once was and not where it needs to be for what you're paying. I'm not trying to live in the past here by saying how good to used to be, but I really don't know why it's dipped, and I keep wanting to see it back there. Really, I enjoy various items on the menu much more than the steak, which is not how it should be...and there's nothing on there I'd say is a must-try. Again, not saying anything is bad by any means, but if I'm paying a premium price, I want a premium product. Bartenders are great--friendly, attentive, and seem to give a nice pour. But if you're dining there, just stick with wine, beer, or bourbon...cocktails are fine, but that's it. Louisville institution for sure, and if you've never been, go--it's worth a trip. If I could give it more than 5 stars I would. Wow! Where do I start? Walking in, we are greeted by none other than Pat himself, welcoming us in for a dinner before we head to the track. He said we couldn't have stopped at a better place! The decor is old school. I enjoy the new steakhouses in town as much as anyone but this one scratched that old steakhouse itch. Nice Irish touch around the rooms, great ambient lighting and just a classic old school feel. It's like you were in another world. If you are coming expecting the Steak&Bourbon, Repeal, etc. vibe. Change your mindset. This is one of a kind. There is nothing I would change about this experience. I've had my fair share of steaks but none of this caliber. Opening the menu you first see Pats Special. A 20oz Bacon-wrapped filet mignon, yes over a pound of fine hand cut meat. Two sides. However you like it. Extensive wine and bourbon list to suit any tastes. After our wonderful dinner I was serenaded to the ever so lovely tune of Happy Birthday and served a colossal hot fudge sundae! I'm not a fan of the whole show of the birthday deal but I'll allow it at Pats and only at Pats! I'll be back, and hopefully soon! If you're skeptical after reading the other reviews. Decided to treat myself to somewhere I had never been on my birthday, wish I'd picked somewhere else. The best part of this meal was the green beans...for a steakhouse. The filet had no real flavor and seared too hard on either side. Surprised to find that a fountain coke with one refill costs $9. Ribeye was tough! Ordered medium-rare, came medium which was ok but the quality of the meat was subpar. Gristle was in large supply & (for the price) would expect dry aged but I've had better steak from Kroger. Even the baked potato was oven burnt on one side! I absolutely love Pat's - it never disappoints. My wife and I had a lovely dinner there this week. Had the fried pork chops and the creamed cauliflower. The cauliflower is not to be missed, a classic Pat's dish. Mr. Francis is always present in the restaurant and delights patrons by stopping by tables. It took me years to get to Pat's Steak House and ot was worth the wait. There were 4 of us and we were seated immediately upon arrival for our 7 pm reservation. Out server was super efficient, helpful and kind. He answered our questions about the menu and provided suggestions. My hubby and i split the lady filet, it was a 8-9 ounce cut and more than enough meat for the two of us and cooked to prefection. Medium rare. It was extremely tender, juicy and had a wonderful flavor. It came with two sides and we opted for a baked potato and green beans. The potato was so good, not sure how they cooked it but it was excellent and the sour cream made it even better. We added a house salad and they split that into seperate bowls in the kitchen. Meals came with fresh rolls amd butter which were also very good. For dessert we had a piece of caramel apple pie that was served with ice cream and whipped cream. It too was excellent. The service here is the absolute best! They are so attentive, and caring about your experience in the establishment. This will be one of the best steaks you ever eat, hands down. This was a special occasion venue for us for years. Very disappointed with the NY strip. Overcooked and chewy. Sent back for Filet and it was good. When I made the reservation they asked if we were celebrating a special occasion and let them know we had a birthday. They did not acknowledge. Three of our party had Diet Coke. Two had refills. The bill came and the Diet Coke charge was $27.50! $5.50 per coke and no refills. I also don't remember the all carte salad for $7.00. Always thought it was included. read more

Had a reservation at 4:30 on 2-14-25. This was made about three weeks ago. At 4:15 we called the restaurant and told the we were going to be about 10 minutes late because of traffic jam and to hold our table. Person on the phone stated they don't even open until 5PM. The website states they open at 4:30PM and we have always been there at that time. This was Valentines Day. Pat's is a Louisville classic! Think old fashioned fancy steakhouse vibe. I'm not a steak person and have a lot of dietary restrictions, so finding food for myself on the menu was difficult, but the staff was accommodating and everything I did have was delicious! We were provided with bread and salads served family style, which we all enjoyed. The service was also amazing, even on a packed Friday night! Pat himself even came to welcome us. Everyone in our group enjoyed their food as well as their drinks. The prices are high, but to be expected in this type of restaurant. Both my wife and I ordered steaks and sides. She got the Lady Filet and I got the NY Strip. I ordered a salad and we got a mix of sides (Lima beans, green beans, baked potato, hash browns). The steaks came out at a perfect temperature - which was great... But there seemed to be ZERO seasoning on the steak. It was just, I dunno, odd. I thought maybe I was just missing it until my wife said the same thing. The sides were fine but also lacked seasoning and just seemed bland. Pat's has been our go to restaurant for special occasions for over 30 yrs; however, after our visit last night that is no more. We were very disappointed, the table crackers were very stale and without taste as if they had been on the table for a long time. We could have complained but didn't think it was a big deal. What is a big deal is the way we were deceived by their menu pricing. The menu states "All dinners include 2 sides: House Salad, Green Beans, Baby Lima Beans, Creamed Cauliflower, Hash Browns, Sweet Potato Fries, Baked Potato, French Fries." So we each ordered a Filet steak, baked potato, and house salad. I asked for honey mustard on my salad and my wife had roqueford. Nothing was said about the salads or roqueford dressing being an extra cost .... which there shouldn't be according to the menu. When we received our bill, I was surprised to see $10 for the salads and $0.75 for the roqueford dressing. Pat came to our table and I asked him about it and he proceeded to become very aggitated and arrogant and told me how he couldn't afford to give 2 sides and a salad with the meal like he used to do, which we were not even questioning, and would not acknowledge that we only had one side and a salad ... which according to the menu should be included in the listed price. On top of that the salad is nothing more than some iceberg lettuce, a couple of slices of tomato, and a slice of cucumber ... an ordinary salad at the best, and certainly not even close to being worth $5.00. To us it was not so much an issue of the price of the salad as it is the decetive way it is shown on the menu and Pat's overall attitude and treatment of us, not at all what we would expect for this calibre restaurant. It saddens us, but in the future we will select one of the other high end steakhouses in Louisville which do not have such deceptive pricing practices and may have a higher regard for their customers. read more

I wish I could give TEN Stars! First, the Owner and Restaurateur Personally came to our Table during our Meal to greet us and asked if everything was to our liking. IT WAS! The Music and Ambiance is just lovely and other-worldly of days gone by! I love that they take Reservations here! (Actually, I think Reservations are required, but I'm not certain.) We arrived about 5 minutes before our Time and we were seated promptly and Cheerfully. Water Glasses, warm Bread Rolls and Butter were brought to our table. Their Wine List is INCREDIBLE. We chose a Pinot Noir, which is probably the best Red Wine I've ever had. We all had the pre-dinner Salad, which was the perfect size, fresh, chilled, and Crunchy. (A bit of Shredded Cheese on it would have added a little extra something, BUT, I'm NOT complaining). Our Steaks were cooked to PERFECTION and arrived at our Table exactly and I mean EXACTLY, as each of us requested them. Two of us ordered Medium, and Two of us ordered Medium-Well. Our Filets, were without a doubt the BEST that we've ever had; not just in Louisville KY, but ANYWHERE that we've gone and we travel, A LOT! Our sides were: Lima Beans, Creamy Cauliflower, Sweet Potato Fries, and Sautéed Mushrooms. The Dessert Choices were also Incredible and we all indulged, splitting two Strawberry Shortcakes between us. I wish I had taken pictures of everything but I was so "In the Moment" that I just didn't want to ruin it by fiddling with my cell phone. You owe it to yourself to have at least one meal here! YES, it IS Expensive. However, it was worth EVERY PENNY that we spent! You DO get what you pay for here and MORE! **** This was a Special Occasion Meal and this will be our GO TO place for all Future Special Occasions. I was in charge of selecting a restaurant for our Monthly meeting. I chose Pats because in past years it had always been good food and excellent service. Our service was very bad, we kept having to ask for our drinks and waters to be refilled, even when the waiter was at our table, he didn't refill waters. The food was average, nothing special. My wife said that her steak was the most tender and flavorful steak that she has had at a restaurant. Pat's restaurant has a rich history that goes back more than 50 years and has remained in the same family. This was a major factor, in deciding to eat at Pat's, since we are from out of down and are unfamiliar with Louisville's restaurant scene. We had never been to an Irish steakhouse but the pictures on Yelp looked amazing. I ordered the 24oz porterhouse and my my wife went with the 12oz filet mignon. We both ordered steak fries and I chose a baked potato while she opted for lima beans. The steaks at Pat's are dry-aged. They were cooked exactly to our taste, perfectly seasoned, and generously portioned. The steaks couldn't have been more perfect! Went to Pat's Steak House for a holiday dinner for my wife's company. Never been here before and it's gotten good word-of-mouth, so we were looking forward to it. When I walked in I could tell this was the kind of storied establishment that had been here for years...decades, even. It's decorated very nicely throughout and has a very vintage/legacy feel. The kind of place were, if you could turn back time and not cause a space/time continuum anomaly, you could see your grandparents sit back with your best friends' grandparents to enjoy a great meal and dessert at a time when social media and work responsibilities wouldn't interrupt a less-hurried dining experience. Our group was placed in the Leprechaun Room upstairs. It had several tables arranged in a U shape. The room, with its dark paneling and warm, subtle lighting, felt very homey with the addition of a couple nicely decorated Christmas trees and the Christmas music that played overhead. All in all, great atmosphere. The menu at Pat's is pretty perfectly sized for an eatery of this type. Steaks, burgers, chicken seafood, all with some pretty hefty prices. An entry-level steak starts at $45 and goes up to as high as $80 for a Porterhouse T-Bone. I opted for the Ribeye (at the urging of one of our servers) at $57, cooked Medium. My wife chose the North Atlantic Cod Loin for a mere $31. I chose baked potato for my side, my wife chose the hash browns. The meals came with Lima beans, green beans, and cheese-covered cauliflower, all served family style. (I don't know if these come with all meals, or only for parties). They were all pretty tasty, with the cheese covered cauliflower standing out as exceptionally good. Once we got our meals, I was pretty impressed at the size of my steak. I think it was only slightly smaller than a Brontosaurus Steak, and the bone (which my Shelties will love) was sizable. I didn't notice any grill marks, though, which leads me to believe it was cooked on a flat grill :( . (Jim likes his steaks to have grill marks). The steak was also pretty room temperature (read that: not particularly warm), and lacked seasoning. Any kind of seasoning. To be honest, I was pretty disappointed in the steak. For a place known and titled as a steakhouse, this one fell pretty short of the mark. No seasoning (I actually had to salt and pepper the steak from the table, something I should never have to do), and wasn't very warm. The star of my steak dinner wasn't the steak, but the baked potato. Not really what I came here for. Likewise, my wife said that her cod was amazingly average, but really liked the hash browns. For dessert I opted for the Key Lime Pie, my wife had a chocolate cake with two mondo size scoops of vanilla ice cream. The key lime was exceptional, my wife said the cake was really good, but after a meal of this size it was just too much food. Our servers (whose names I don't recall, sadly) were great and very attentive. The food delivery was well-timed and was presented very nicely. I can see where Pat's can be awesome and is a gorgeous place to eat, but had I been paying for this I'd have been significantly more disappointed. First that steak was the worst thing EVER ! My husband order NY strip and I ordered the Lady's filet. They wrapped the lady's filet is bacon which is fine but it was so greasy that I had to put a saucer on the plate to attempt to take a bite and said forget this. It was cooked correctly but I'm sorry this meal was WAY too expensive for what we paid for ! My salad was cold lettuce and tomatoes for 7.00 umm no. The croutons on the table were stale. The baked potato had no cheese butter or anything on it. The service was fine but we aren't one to complain but this meal was not worth what we paid we will NEVER be returning we can go to Stoney River or Jeff Rubys for this price without the bathroom issues that kept both of us up all night. What we liked: Our waiters southern accent and the steaks were cooked exactly to order. No under or over done steaks. What we didn't like: pretty much everything else. Place is like a supper club from the 1970's, which isn't a bad thing, but it is if it hasn't been updated or dusted since then. Sat at the back of restaurant where there's no dinner music piped in, but we got occasional drifts of Sinatra coming from the other dining rooms. Instead we listened to the clanking of diners eating. Seat cushion unattached, flattened, and sliding around. Bathroom smelled like sewage and the stall doors are nothing more than plywood with a hook and eye to lock. Classy place. Bus servers who assist the wait staff are in abundance and running all over the place. Yet I had to flag one down to get a water refill after waiting with an empty glass on the edge of the table for 5-6 min. The salad was shameful.... Iceberg lettuce, tomato slice, and a cucumber slice. Nary a crouton, not even a shred of carrot or onion. Rolls don't come out till your main entree, though with a sad salad like that, they should being them out sooner. Steak was good but strangely bland..... No one wants an over salted steak, but a little seasoning goes a long way. Enjoyed the southern style green beans, took me back to the way my mom made them. Overall, I can't recommend this place. We only came here because we couldn't get a reservation anywhere else. I was hoping it was going to be a well kept secret, but the 3.5 star rating is unbelievably generous. read more
