I was a bit disapointed in this museum...After a visit to the Please Touch Museum in Philadelphia then coming here I guess it had allot to live up too. My daughter definitely had fun and it has its positive aspects, but I feel there is so much empty space they can add more exhibits and features. This is a good place to take your kid when it's raining or cold outside. There are a ton of different things to do there for all ages. It even kept me entertained. However, because of the nature of museum (touch, feel, smell, play with) it felt like one big germ invasion, especially in the winter time. Come prepared with some wipes and antibacterial. read more

Went over the weekend with my son who has ASD after much review i decided to bring my son specifically for the sensory room. However the sensory room was closed for the day because the "lady" as her coworker referred to her as called out so they shut the room down for the day.How unprofessional!! I was slated to go to the Brooklyn Children's Museum with my BF's nieces, but the children's nap/eat/play schedule didn't mesh with my nap/eat/work schedule. The children had an absolute blast and were totally worn out at dinner (Yea! Adult conversation dinner!). Their dad insisted we should go sometime, even without kids... I have been to a few children's museums and this is by FAR the WORST! It's dirty, small and doesn't have a lot to offer. Parking is even pretty poor. I would stay away from here and go to NY or CT. I drove 2 hrs for this mess....never again. read more

Where do I start? I came here on a Thursday, the first thing I noticed like other reviews I have read , no circulation!!!! No air conditioning! This is a place for children there must be air conditioning . Feels very stuffy that you could smell that muggy smell yuck. The different little stores for kids to play in were so unorganized. My son and daughter couldn't enjoy themselves toys were all over the floor , kids didn't want to share in there it was terrible. Then the water station on the first floor by the gift shop smell like so much chlorine I couldn't stay in there for long. Then .. the cafe upstairs ... the menu is boring no real food to enjoy. I was worried before I came here. I came anyway expecting to leave within an hour. I came here on a Sunday arriving at 9:30am in case parking was an issue. Sunday is free parking and I was able to find 4 parking space right next to the museum. On a whim, we walked to the next park to Brower Park. That park was clean, well kept and had sprinklers, bathrooms, slides, basketball courts and swings. Upon arrival at 10am, we went straight to the Tots Area. This is for 5 and under but they don't really check or even ask the age of my child. The tots area is truly for younger kids and my 5 year old was still able to find lots to do in the blue sand pit, the slides and most importantly, the water area. All fun. By 10:30, we went upstairs to a Zumba class. The instructor kept all the kids (and parents) entertainment and interactive. Awesome, Awesome, Awesome! This class took an hour. By 11:30, we were eating lunch and by 12:00, we went all the way downstairs to a touch tank workshop where the kids got to touch snails, crabs, sea stars and much more. At the same time, a cultural workshop took place but we chose lunch instead. At 12:30pm, we were back upstairs working on an art project. At the same time, an announcement was made that Brower Park (same park previously mentioned) was giving away Bike Helmets. Further announcements were made stating that they would honor our tickets and welcome us back after we got our helmets. We did exactly this and discovered the museum a bit more before my child was tired and asked to go home. We were over 3 and a 1/2 hours and we could have easily stayed longer. I'd come here again. My daughter loved this place. From the little "neighborhood" with the working telephones to the "seashore" with little boat and pitched tent. I found the exhibits thoughtful and fun. We stayed for hours and I'm sure that there are areas we missed. The staff were friendly and the spaces were clean. read more

I held my daughters 1st birthday here just this Saturday and it was amazing. They have a variety of packages for every price range. We had over 30 people- food, music, a treasure hunt, it was amazing. I definitely recommend this for events or just to visit. The Brooklyn Children's Museum is a decent alternative for toddlers and elementary kids if you can drive there. (Although there used to be designated bus pick ups locations indluding Williamsburg, if I remember correctly.) It basically offers the same standard entertainments that indoor play areas have, except with some educational touches. As a learning experience, its not anything exceptional, but with toddlers what you can do is limited no matter how educational they try to bill it. If you bring toddlers to the water exhbit in Totally Tots bring extra clothes and sandals because even though they have plastic smocks they don't work completely. Also bring your own lunch if you can, otherwise be prepared to pay big bucks for run of the mill salads and hot dogs. Our bill for two toddlers and two adults came to $30. The tot area is closed off so your little one doesn't wander off but it gets VERY crowded after 11. Your best bet for sanity is the week, when you'll meet mostly fashionable granola park slopers and assorted locals. (This is a prime location to spot trend setting baby gear and pick up snooty mom magazines.) If you are looking for free, the museum offers free weekend admissions in the spring. Otherwise admission is $7.50 per person not including kids under 1. The museum is midsize but can be tricky to navigate and as others noted not without dangers. Off the tot exhibit into the main area, the stairs can be exciting/ dangerous for your littles. The tunnel ramp has its own dangers as there is no railing next to the canals exhibit and kids can wade in. These stairs lead to a theatre and cultural Brooklyn neighborhoods exhibits. The dragon head off the oriental store is fun for pictures. And the pizza place is fun for pretend cooking. The sandbox/gardening exhibit can get feisty as kids vie for spades so keep your eyes peeled. The garden outdoor area is more fun for older kids. Our tot enjoyed the water ecosystem exhibit with turtles and fish though and the cooking class in the lower classrooms. The library was lost on them and most other people. The bathrooms were fairly efficient affairs. Hurrah for family bathrooms wide enough for strollers. An in-the-know thing: if you pick up any phone in the culture exhibits you can call other stores. This can be an exhausting, expensive entire day trip for parents but the kids will have fun. read more

I was there in May 2016 had a great time with my autistic son who really enjoyed himself. I went there 9/2/16 and was so disappointed. I drove 2 hours from CT. I paid full price to find out that the top deck was closed. The lunch room has changed they don't serve chicken fingers for kids or pizza but you can get a beer. There was a lack of staff and the staff that was working was of no help. The sensory room was closed. The bathrooms were so dirty when I asked one of the cleaning staff to add paper towels he continue to play with his cell phone . Not much to do here but play with water and sand. Overall horrible experience! The gift shop was also closed ! read more

A fabulous museum, And an especially great time for kids that are about 2 -6 years old. I know my son and I will spend many hours here.

First of all, let me say, I think my 2 yo would've given this place a 5 star. She totally enjoyed herself for the hour or so we were there. I thought it was cool, educational and fun for the kids. Maybe a bit more exhibits needed. The play areas are great and the kids do seem to love them. I do think the $9 cover for both adults and kids is kind of steep. I would consider taking my kid there every other weekend or so because I'm not far away and she had so much fun playing with the other kids, but at $18/visit, idk. I have traveled to over 10 cities and 10-15 children's museums with my 3yr old and 3month old and this is one of the best Children's museums I have been to. There is so much to see if you have hrs to spend you will spend it and unlike many children's museums the price is inexpensive for children and adults. We loved the African, Caribbean, Chinese etc markets they have for all cultures. The water play is Awesome here and you have kids who don't even speak the same language playing with no problem. My daughters 6 and there's really nothing for her to do. The play stores and pizza area were empty of accessories for play. The fun area was the tot area and she wasn't allowed in. Don't bother going if your kids are older. read more

Staff is nice and friendly however the totally tots area is over run with bigger kids. I didn't feel comfortable so my 2 year old and I ventured elsewhere. Missing toys in the pretend play area, empty animal displays, upstairs is a new science exhibit however the lab coats were dirty and so were the pretend scrubs...glad I used my culture pass and didn't have to pay. Absolutely fabulous! Go. If you don't have kids -- borrow your nieces & nephews, they will think the world of you. There really isn't a place like it elsewhere in NYC. I love this place -- when I babysit, I bring my charges here, and they have a blast every single time. The staff is professional, courteous, engaging, and really well-informed. The special programs that are held in the nature space, garden, and library are top-notch. The $9 admission fee is well worth it, and I'm considering a membership for myself, to use whenever I need. It can be crowded and funky on holidays and weekends, but that's the norm with places like this -- worth it to come very early or very late in the day, to avoid the bulk of people. read more

Fun place to take a toddler. We had lots to do. I actually went in free that's always a BONUS . My 2 year old did not want to leave that place so we sticked around for 3 hours but it was filled with cool things. The toddler area consist of slides , storytime , puppet show , Sand box ( Son's Favorite) , arts and craft center and a water area for them to play in ( another favorite ) . All in All it was a great experience only thing is that it looked a little run down inside . But its filled with Fun. read more

I'm glad this museum exists in its current location for the residents who live nearby but for everyone else it's really difficult to get to. I also live in Brooklyn but it takes almost an hour to get there by public transit, and almost the same amount of time to walk. I really think Brooklyn needs an easy to access Children's Museum, perhaps in Downtown Brooklyn near many more subway lines... Toddlers seem to have a great time there but I wouldn't take older children. Also the "cafe" is not good at all. There is a lot of seating there though, and you can take your own food. read more

I took a two year old boy. He was obsessed with the grocery area. It was a little crowded but it was a rainy Sunday so probably peak time. It seemed decently clean, staff was friendly and helpful. Lots to do. A day full of fun. Lots of workshops (art, science, crafts) + special classes as well. Great location beside a park (Brower). $9 admission but it is free on Thursdays 3-5. They also have extended hours most Thursdays. There are exhibits upstairs and plenty of opportunities to learn about different cultures. There's a tot section for kids 5 and under with a small water section. There is even a library to read. And a cafe as well. Probably best for kids 2-9ish. The only con is there isn't much searing for adults supervising kids. A few more floor cushions, benches, or chairs and it would be great. Note that they are closed on Mondays. Very convenient location for public transit. read more

I was quite upset in visiting the museum. In going around with my grandson , my sister and I. I was approached by three young people. They or I say , one individual was black and female , one was Caucasian and male , one was Chinese and female. The black young lady stated that they were doing a survey of some sort and they needed to have a guardian or parent permission. Now I stated that I was the grandmother and the black female stated that that wasn't a parent or quardian. But please tell me the definition of grandparent. I really would like to know what type of museum is this suppose to be. I find it very troubling and sad. read more

On Friday, 3/30/2018 I took my little ones to the museum for a day of learning and fun. Overall I loved the easy check in, the coat check included with the admission fee and the ample street parking spots available. The crowds were minimal and it didn't feel overcrowded which you would expect from any museum located in the five boroughs. When it came to the exhibits especially the shops my disappointment hit me like a ton of bricks. The pizza shop was nice but there were children who took all of the toppings to their parents and the adults did not return them to the exhibit. There was a trend in the store exhibits that items were missing and spread throughout the museum. The mini grocery store was missing more that 80% of the pretend food. The little ones were disappointed that they couldn't shop or cook because items were missing. I strongly suggest to remedy this issue that the museum put attendants at these locations to make sure that children and parents aren't walking off with items from their perspective location. We all pay admission and should have a fair chance for the kids to play with the items. I would go again but I would go early on a weekday to reduce the chance of store exhibits being ravaged. read more

Fantastic place for 5 years old and younger. Lots to do and explore and almost all of it interactive. The best area is the pretend shops. Kids love the pretend pizzeria where they can assemble "pizzas" out of felt and deliver them to the parents waiting at the tables outside. The pretend grocery store is also very good (and a vision of pure anarchy.) The cafe isn't very good, just grilled cheese sandwiches. Most people pack their own lunch. If you go on weekdays sometimes the place is mobbed with school parties or day camps which can be overwhelming to little ones, so weekend is best. read more

Phenomenal learning environment for kids. Great location for school trips and birthday parties (thought it's pricey). My co-worker decided to pass on the party after seeing the packages. I don't remember the Museum before the renovation, but it's been quite a hit in my neighborhood. Plenty of bright colors and friendly faces. You can't miss the yellow exterior. Environmentally-friendly too which is a definite plus nowadays. Informational booths and live creatures to fascinate young minds. Not a museum but a place for little kids to play. Good for under 5. I am personally not thrilled by things I saw and what my 5 yo experienced. Not well maintained. It's easy to get to the museum from the b65 bus. Staff is kind and friendly. We've been a few times and I think it's best for the 3/4 set. Also good for parents who want to socialize during the cold weather. Probably better w an open bar, but I digress. The space is cool but it seems under utilized. The few things that hold the kids interest are small exhibits that might better hold a young toddlers Attention. Our almost 6 year old seemed mildly amused but I think he's getting too old for this museum read more
