Corn cake, savory hand pie, anise hyssop, and seasonal custard bun

Fantastic whole grain bakery that really stands apart from the rest. I've tried Brooklyn Granary before when they've hosted pop-ups and was super excited that they opened a storefront. It's a little out of the way, but still very accessible via the F/G. Depending on the day they'll have different offerings and they list the schedule on their website. When I went on a Thursday they had a ton of stuff and my friend and I split 4 different pastries: - Savory handheld pie: this was by far my favorite of this batch, they did a great job with the savory greens filling and the pie crust with the whole grains added a lovely nutiness. - Custard bun: the seasonal bun had pumpkin/squash? and was very tasty - Corn cake: on the sweeter side, it's a nice little way to treat yourself. - Anise Hyssop: I've never had this pastry anywhere else and it was delicious! A little mix of sweet and savory has your tastebuds waking up in new ways. The staff are really friendly, the decor and plates they use are gorgeous, and all single-use items compostable. I've also gotten their biscones before and they are to die for. Definitely come check this spot out before it blows up!!

I'm obsessed. I've been back a few more times & the bread & pastries are stellar. There's a nuttiness to the goodies that comes from the fresh grained flour. There's custard buns- currently fig is outstanding, but the plain croissant is so perfect I can't stop thinking of it.

The Brooklyn granary is such a fantastic bakery! The vibes inside are great and the pasties are super yummy! Service is quick and they make a good cup of coffee too!

Congratulations to the team at Brooklyn Granary & Mill! I stopped by on opening day, this morning. It's conveniently located just off the Smith & 9th Street train station, in a very large space. It even has a good amount of seating (inside and outside) and a baking area. There's also retail items like coffee and sunflower oil. All the pastries, and obviously the bread, look delectable. I had the Strawberry Custard Bun [$5.50], which was actually very light considering it had custard in it. The pops of strawberry added some brightness and freshness. I also ordered a Strawberry Rhubarb Hand Pie [$6], which was still warm from the oven. It's super flakey and comforting from the strawberry and rhubarb sauce/jam. I can't wait to come back and try other items!

I've been to both locations--the Times Square one is much smaller, but the Brooklyn location is amazing with a nice sit-down area. I always go back to my favorite, the tres leches cupcakes. I had no problem finding parking. They had a few people ordering at the front, and a few people eating in the back. I perused the available cake (and pie) slices and other smaller baked goods, but did not see the Blackout Cake Slice! When I asked the staff, they regretfully informed me that they did not have slices that day, so I went with the next best option... an 8" cake! I didn't get any writing on the cake, as I already had a Happy Birthday candle, and I didn't want to add extra icing to the cake. I liked how well they package the cake. The box was large enough, and they line the bag with a thin piece of cardboard to stabilize the box. I'm not a big sweets person, but I enjoyed the chocolate-y richness of the cake. The cake itself was moist and the pudding held everything together well. I would be back to try their Strawberry Shortcake and other desserts.
