I was in the area and had a taste for something sweet. I've been in twice and I've ordered the coconut cream cookie and the chocolate chip. You can get two for $5 bucks. Both were really good. The employee/owner (?) was nice. The shop is in building that looks like it could be an apartment building. The hours are a bit strange--10:00am to 3:00pm. Worth checking out if you can get there while they're open. read more

Lovely tucked away bakery -- they have a delicious almond croissant and berry tart! The hours are a bit odd, but it's definitely a treat if you can catch them! It's slim inside, great for taking a treat to-go, and it feels like the menu changes often. I also enjoyed the madeline and olive oil cake. read more

This is really a hidden gem! The pastries & desserts here are really high quality. They were as good as the ones I have eaten in Japan. I came a bit later (after 1pm) and many things were sold out. I got the scone, sweet potato pie, and coffee roll. They were all so delicious! The scone was nice & savory. Bought a few pastries & brought it back home to eat. The pastries were far more beautiful than the photos I took - pastries got battered/smushed in the bag. We ordered to try: 1)Mont Blanc, 2) Coffee roll cake, 3) Sweet Potato Pie, 4) some Pear cake, 5) Scone (that had black pepper, scallion & cheddar cheese). Mont Blanc - WOW! Super delicious & had the right amount of sweetness. One of the best Mont Blanc I had in NYC so far. Loved the different textures, especially the bottom part (I think it was a coconut meringue). I would reorder this again! Coffee roll cake - Also another WOW! This cake was so delicious with the right amount of sweetness. You taste the coffee, crunchiness from the nut part & cream. HIDDEN GEM I discovered this spot on social media and it did not disappoint. Burrow is a tiny Japanese bakery in Brooklyn hidden in an office building. Their store front isn't street facing so you have to enter a building and walk into the lobby to see it, very unassuming. Don't be deterred by their small selection, everything is very good. A couple ahead of us ordered nearly one of everything because they don't come in very often, so that was a good sign! We ended up getting a slice of their seasonal cherry blossom cake, a biscotti, and a hazelnut shortbread cookie. By the time we paid and left, the little shop had filled up with people and new baked goods were being brought out. Seems like they just make stuff throughout the day and put it out as it's ready, seems pretty neat and clearly very fresh! Everything tasted great! read more

True hidden gem in Brooklyn. They only open from 10am to 2pm on weekdays. When I had an unexpected day-off on Tue, I knew it was a sign to visit Burrow. Their store is located inside a commercial building, so it took me awhile to figure out where the entrance was. ＊Quiche Forgot what were the fillings... it should be loaded with chicken, bell pepper and spinach. The savory egg custard was incredibly soft and jiggly. The quiche was packed full of bright veggie and herbal flavors. I was disappointed by most of the quiches served in other bakeries, but this one was exceptionally yum. ＊Gateau Basque Custard My fav pastries out of the three. I thanked myself for picking this simple but divine pastry over other fancy-looking ones. Their tart crust slayed with its flakiness. The almond custard fillings were encased in the buttery dough. Silky, nutty and (most importantly) not too sweet. ＊Strawberry Pistachio Cake I witnessed the cakes sold out within an hour during my stay at Burrow. Coated with whipped cream and a thin layer of jelly-like strawberry jam. The strawberry mousse was bursted with fresh and naturally sweet flavor. You could clearly distinguish there wasn't much added sugar in this piece. The pistachio sponge cake was fluffy, yet the flavor was bland and overpowered by the strawberry mousse. It's almost impossible to make it to @burr0w because they have the weirdest hours and only on weekdays! I'm so glad I finally got to visit on Good Friday though. Came by for some pastries. When I got there around 1pm, a lot of things were sold out. They were still getting quite a bit of foot traffic as well. Got a slice of the coffee roll cake and a slice of the pumpkin pie. The coffee roll cake was too sweet for me, but the coffee taste was prominent. The cake was moist as well, but the cream was on the stiffer end. Slice of pumpkin pie was great. The puree was smooth, it was spiced very well, and not too sweet. The crust was flaky and buttery too. There's only two people working there at a time, so if there's a crowd you may have to wait longer. read more

Was looking for a pastry shop near my job to help satisfy my sweet tooth and stumbled upon burrow. A super small storefront with limited hours, this bakery really lives up to the hype. I got chocolate chip cookies and a donut. Both were absolutely delicious and melted as soon as you start chewing. The store itself is super small and can't be seen from the street, you have to enter into a building and then it's straight ahead. They have maybe 1 or 2 workers there, but they move quick so the wait isn't long. There's no seats so it's grab and go. Prices are a little high for the size you get but that's Brooklyn for ya. Burrow is recommended by one of our friends who is super picky about pastries. We placed an order on Monday and did curbside pickup at assigned time on Wednesday. There is currently no weekend time slot available for pickup. We had their assorted dessert box with 8 different kinds, Almond croissant and curry granola. Their pastries and desserts are delicate and delicious. Our favorites were the Canele from the box and the almond croissant. The texture of their canele was soft and creamy and the layer was crunchy. The almond croissant was extremely tasty especially after being toasted in the oven. We will definitely visit again and try their other options on the menu. read more

Where has this bakery been all my life! Loved the almond croissant so much! I don't know what magic was used, but it tasted like two pastries in one. Had laminated dough, but then also a scone-like topping - mind blown. The muffin was short and adorable...for the muffin top lovers out there (Seinfeld reference, anyone?). The strawberries made the muffin a little wet for my preference, but it tasted good. The chocolate batons came out fresh and piping hot. Loved the invention--kinda like a dessert spring roll (or lumpia)... had chocolate and pastry dough inside? Yum. Would have loved to try everything they had, especially the savory pastries. 3.5 stars I really wanted to love Burrow more than I did. The cakes / pastries were good but they weren't next level for me. I'd had my eye on Burrow for a while, but could never make it there given their hours (impossible if you work Mon-Fri). Finally got the time to go, and it's a super small space tucked into an office building. Don't really recommend staying and eating - to-go is probably the move. I tried their pistachio cake, praline pineapple, matcha madeleine and green tea cookie. The pistachio cake had the distinctive taste of pistachio, but I didn't love the mousse which was the kind of mousse that's more gelatinous than creamy. The praline pineapple I enjoyed more, the cream was smooth and the cake soft, but it wasn't a cake that I was hooked on (I suspect it's because I like my creams to be super light, but this type of cream is the richer denser kind). The matcha madeleine and green tea cookie were fine, but other than having the taste of green tea, weren't particularly noteworthy. Still curious about the breakfast options though (salmon bread sounds interesting), and some of their newer cakes/pastries (semla, black tea lychee cake). read more

My cousin works in the same building as Burrow, so when I came to visit she suggested that I stop by and sample some of the wares! I ended up selecting the salmon bread, because I love both salmon and bread and was very curious about how they would combine. It ended up being pretty phenomenal! Loved the flavor and the moistness that was retained. I hear this place is actually well known for its desserts, so I'd love to stop by again the next time I'm in Brooklyn and try one of those. read more

I've been excited to try this place for a while and finally did. DISAPPOINTING! Is the best word to describe the overall entrance/space and baked goods I got. First, since it's inside a building, it's very dim/dreary and uninviting. Secondly, it was boiling even with the doors wide open. I waited for someone in front of me to order and felt the intensely hot air. I got a blueberry scone which was ok, nothing special, and an almond croissant that had just come out of the oven. After letting the almond croissant cool for an hour, it still had this smell of eggs, and upon my first bite, it made me gag. Horrible! I hate baked goods that smell like eggs and have an odd eggy taste. Ugh! Lastly, the payment screen was so dirty I didn't want to touch it. There were literally dirty spots all over the screen. Disgusting! PLEASE! Wipe that down at the end of each day. I don't get how people in the food industry are so oblivious to these concerning things. read more

I found out about this location through Instagram - apparently the owner (or the owner's husband?) runs marathons and we have a mutual running buddy lol. Anyways, I was excited to try the beautiful sweets from here. However I did not enjoy the treats as much as I'd hoped to, because it's Japanese in a bad way, in my opinion. I like how treats are beautifully crafted. They paid so much attention to the details, but the details didn't come together well and lacked a punch that makes me want to come back for more. I only had the honey nougat cake so it may be different for other treats, but I might as well move on to try other places. read more

A friend helped me with some pastry and I didn't visit the shop myself. Had viewed so many great reviews and had high hopes, but it was just good, nothing exciting. I have the chocolate mousse and the double chocolate cookies today. Both of them were good. The chocolate mousse had a intense layer of chocolate powder, making the cake not overwhelmingly sweet. And it was soft, but nothing exceptional as it is still just a chocolate mousse. The double chocolate cookie was too sweet for me, so I only manage to finish half of it. Considering the good price, I will it an overall four star. Haven't tried the other cookie so it may give me a surprise, who knows. After much anticipation, I finally made it to Burrow! I came across Burrow's Yelp listing a couple months back when in search for somewhere near my workplace to get tasty, freshly baked treats. Most of the reviews were 5 stars, so I quickly bookmarked so I could visit. On this misty day, I made the 15 mins trek from Brooklyn Heights to Dumbo to sate my sweet tooth. There were so many bite-sized desserts to choose from! I almost spent a great deal of time trying to decide what to get, but then three more patrons entered the little store and I decided I'd be considerate seeing as how the gloomy, rainy weather probably brought them there, too. I read a few reviews about the lemon cake (which I thought was vegan, but today it wasn't) so I decided on that as well as the apricot raisin biscuit. Both of my choices were delectable! The apricot raisin was lightly powdered and perfectly flaky. However, the lemon cake was certainly my favorite! It was surprisingly tangy, but also very moist/spongy and finely iced. As almost everyone has mentioned about this place, the desserts are prepared with lots of TLC. There was no doubt about it after indulging in the lemon cake today. Burrow cakes have an ornamental aesthetic. The each look like something out of an Alice in Wonderland illustration. Decorations favor pastels and natural deep colors - the purple berry, the green pistachio. The flavors are focused. Layers of icing, cake, mousse orbit around a sharp statement of a core ingredient. In the pistachio mousse, the thin cake layers and soft mousse emphasize a more-than-pistachio pistachio-ness in the gravely, crunchy crust. In the white wine cake, the berries unmistakably highlight each bite, their sour-sweetness pronounced through creaminess. Burrow's cakes aren't sweet-forward - not like tres leches, baklava, or a donut. Having grown used to that type of sweet, it takes several bites to understand what's going on. I come here at least 2-3 times a week -- I work nearby and it is dangerous! Their pastries are some of the best I've ever had - particularly their almond croissant -- oh my god. It will ruin all almond croissants for you moving forward. I sometimes come here just for tea or coffee, or their cookies, or for quiche for breakfast. Also the entire staff is so lovely. I actually never heard of this place until I saw an article on Eater and I was really excited to try the creations from a Japanese pastry chef. I was really excited since Eater featured their cheesecake and it looked amazing. So a few friends and I decided to pay a visit to grab some cheesecake and other baked goods. The shop is basically a tiny store front with only one small table so ordering to go might be your only option. Also, they have no phone, yes no phone number at all. The food: Banana Cheesecake- It was just OK and it didn't feel like a cheesecake, it really felt more like a banana sponge cake. Also, I was not a fan of the crust since it basically had no texture. Not sure how their regular cheesecake would be but this was a let down. Cream Puff- This was just OK as well, I was not crazy about the texture of the dough. The dough was not really crunchy nor soft and it tasted a tad grainy. The cream filling was pretty good, though. Chocolate Ganache- This was decent but it really just tasted like a shortbread cookie with chocolate pudding in the center. read more

What a special place - you can tell everything here is made with as much love as talent. The owner is a real artist. The chocolate ganache cookie is the best cookie I've had in recent memory. The shortbread is light, buttery, and a touch salty while the ganache is silky and barely sweet. It's perfectly balanced. If you like subtle desserts that don't punch you in the face with sugar, you'll probably like it here. Cookies are $2 each, cakes are around $5 a slice. Very reasonable for such unique and delicious desserts. I hope Burrow stays around a while. read more

Finally got to try this place after discovering it on Instagram. Extremely adorable shop! I bought a pistachio cake and a snow ball. All their items here are too cute to be eaten. I thought some of the items were toys. They have a huge assortment of cookies. Definitely a take out and to go place. the snow ball is delicious, it made me reminiscent of the almond cookies I had in Macau. Super yummy and lightly powered with sugar. I successfully brought the pistachio cake on my flight to Minnesota and shared it with my boyfriend. It was fantastic! It was like a mousse cake but it was light and creamy and not too heavy. I didn't feel guilty or gluttonous while eating it. Thanks to Burrow for providing an ice pack with my cake to keep it at perfect temperature. Lots of places in NY get hailed as "hidden gems," but Burrow really earns the moniker. There's only a small and very discrete sign in front of the apartment building whose lobby Burrow calls home. Much like the Weasleys' home of the same name in the Harry Potter books, you have to *know* what you're looking for ahead of time when it comes to his cozy little spot. Once you've found it, you'll be greeted by the friendly proprietor ready to make you a warm drink or serve up a pasty from their mystical case of offerings. I didn't sample any beverages myself, but thoroughly enjoyed my double chocolate chip cookie that was equal parts chewy and crisp. Would definitely come back to try other goodies they have to offer, and to mystify my friends with what a "hidden" New York spot *actually* looks like :) read more
