All sorts of exotic twists on the menu, which I still have not fully explored. I usually grab a traditional kava, double shot works for me. As I'm told it has a "reverse tolerance" I guess that means as you go more often, you'll feel it more readily. It's a chill out and relax type of compound, very different than the amped up and go you get from your caffeinated brethren. For the uninitiated, Kava is usually very strong tasting and not very good- earthy and cloudy. Brooklyn Kava offers it straight, but the better option is one of the Kava cocktails. Get a double scoop ($10) and I highly recommend both the drinks I tried- the vegan eggnog and the lavender chai. Vegan eggnog is quite sweet but cinnamon-y and tastes nothing like real eggnog(thank god). The lavender chai is comforting while being fresh from the floral notes. Both can be made warm if you like. They have plenty of treats from Ovenly if you needs snacks with your Kava and Kratom drinks as well if you want a boost instead of a relaxant. Can't wait to come back! read more

I only heard of this place because of a guy I am seeing. Know nothing about this special substance used in beverages, and he didn't either but the bartender Lady was very kind and did a quick intro with recommendations. It's like a little shop where people hang out with their laptops at the bar (which I find weird) and groups of friends in the lounging area with board games and just hanging. It's chill, not really your local coffee shop per se but it is chill. I just remember my body feeling high and that it was sensitive to touch. Nice experience and would def go back. read more

Swung by mid afternoon on a Saturday and sat at the bar hoping to be served, as there weren't many people inside, only myself and 2 others that were with me at the bar. So just my party of 3 sitting there waiting for them to initiate service, I've never been here before and i said that, the women behind the counter was far less than helpful, they were all smiles to patrons outside of the window getting their orders outside via the walk up window and ensuring they was happy, and understood what they were getting. I learned about this place from a friend of mine who had been coming here for quite some time. The shop itself is cute, cozy and has a bangin AC which was AMAZING during those crazy hot days. I had never tried kava or kratom and was a little hesitant but the staff here was SO informed and so incredibly helpful. They really made sure I understood and asked questions to ensure I had the best experience possible. I ended up getting the Matcha Lemonade with the green kratom and it was SO GOOD. Business owner//barista was perfecto hibiscus drink made me euphoric ... I even tweeted about it ..... but then I projectile vomited at my next destination -- was reassured this was a potential side effect by a very nice barista who answered my panicked phone call that evening. Brooklyn Kava is a great spot, they have a wide variety of coffee and tea drinks in addition to the kava and the kratom. I seldom drink kava, but I'm a big fan of kratom and can say that the kratom at Brooklyn Kava is very potent and one certainly gets their money's worth. There is also kombucha, as well as some delicious confectioneries from Ovenly that are delicious. I know what I just wrote is redundant, I said what I said! This spot is on the smaller side, come prepared find all of the seats taken; in the warmer months this is of little concern as one can hang outside - there is window service with a counter. In the colder months, being that this is a non-alcohol bar, one can get any beverage to go if there is no vacancy. I do believe Brooklyn Kava has the strongest kratom in all of New York City, if you like kratom this would be THE spot. My experience at Brooklyn Kava was quite unforgettable. I had visited a Kava bar before in Portland, so I was expecting a similar experience. Least to say, I was surprised after my night at this café. The inside environment is very inviting, the music is very soothing & ambient, & the locals are incredibly friendly. Not to mention, the server at the time, Ben, was very knowledgeable & helped me & my friend choose kava drinks based on what we were trying to experience. He let us know that the effects of Kava & Kratom were similar to coffee, except in the opposite way--you would feel simultaneously relaxed, yet also stimulated. We even played Uno with him & a local for some time. Overall a wonderfully communal experience. My body did not react well to the Kava and some of the Kratom that I had taken, similar to the experience I had in Portland, but I was thankful for the help that I received while at the café. Ben went out of his way to help me & also did not charge me for my drinks. I had the - Kava Double (with grapefruit juice to cleanse my palette) - Kratom cocktail with ginger & honey, I think Overall a very warm, welcoming, and interesting place. the frail, Venezuelan barista is the most annoying, trivial person I have ever dealt with in a retail setting. His tone is so flat and aloof like he can't be bothered with you. I've been to this place twice now and am already a fan. It's a tiny little Kava bar, and doesn't draw much attention from the outside but has an excellent relaxed vibe on the inside. This bar offers a variety of coffee beverages in addition to Kava and Kratom (a similar beverage to Kava). Ben was serving up drinks at the bar, and offered some great conversation and company as well. While you're relaxing with your drinks you are free to play board or card games that they have on a shelf. My friend and I made friends with Ben and a regular customer and played several games of Uno while drinking our Kava and snacking on some gluten free peanut butter cookies. Be forewarned that Kava itself doesn't taste very good, but Brooklyn Kava does a solid job of masking the earthy (or almost dirty) taste of the kava root. I personally enjoyed the iced tea made with kratom more than the kava itself. Overall, my first Kava experience was positive. My body felt really relaxed and the environment was great for unwinding after a long day. read more

My friend introduced me to this place and kava in particular. Since then it has become one of my favorite places to visit in Bushwick. If you're looking for a nice relaxed atmosphere, this is a place to go. A very nice and cozy place. They have fair prices for their food and drinks. I had both a green kratom and red kratom. They both were very good and started to feel the calming effects soon after. I also had both a blueberry and cornflake muffin and a slice of pumpkin bread. They both were very fresh and tasted great. The service is very good. Cute little place that serves these rare teas like Kava and Kratom. I had asked if it's okay to drink both, the employee said yes no problem. It really affected me and I got severely sick. I later read you are not supposed to combine the two it can be dangerous. I don't want to give this place a bad rating on account of my getting sick from the tea but I guess you should just do a little research for yourself on what to drink since they didn't really give much info.
