I was in Brooklyn on a trip with my GF to explore the neighborhood across the bridge from the City to take in all the hipster-esque wonders. It was a snowy morning after yoga class and I wanted something filling since I didnt eat anything beforehand, I yelped breakfast pastries and Brooklyn Kolache came up. It sounded some eastern european and I was up to try a hipster take on it. I got in and there was a line, I knew it had to be good, I ended up getting the bacon, egg, and cheese savory kolache. The bun was sweet, soft, and chewy, it was the quintessential bread that enveloped the savory yumminess that was bacon, cheese, and egg. I was in heaven, my tastes buds were singing in delight. I was so glad I brave the snow to come here because it was that delicious. I also got the strawberry and sweet cheese Kolache which was a sweet ending to my trip since I was leaving that day. I'm writing this review at BKC on their wi-fi. I'm right next to the back patio - there's a cool breeze that is blowing flower petals down like rain. For reals. It'd be absurd if it weren't so lovely. Good coffee, AMAZING kolaches. If you've never had one, as I hadn't until a few days ago, think delicious rolls stuffed with delicious sweet or savory ingredients - still confused? Just go try one - you won't regret it. And the best part is, a $3 kolache is enough for a meal. There's a little bit of the typical Brooklyn coffee-shop soundtrack problem (ie: the music selection is at the whim of the barista) but that's sort of an occupational hazard of being a coffice-based freelancer. I do not claim to be a kolache expert, or have any cultural ties to the process or the food, but I did spend about 5 years living around the corner from a Kolache Factory in Houston when I was small. I totally get why people go bonkers for these things, because I too go bonkers over a delicious sausage and cheese kolache. But, alas, these were not like the kolaches I grew up with. My number one issue is that they were too bread-y and too large. When I was small, I could eat 3 of these bad boys for breakfast. When I went to BKC, I ordered two and thought my stomach might explode by the end. I know I had the sausage and cheese, which was pretty good, but not awesome or mind-blowing. Whatever else I ordered, I can't recall. They weren't bad at all, just not what I remember or expected. Was passing by and saw an advertisement for a lavender matcha latte decided to give it a try. Also got the sweet and cheese Kolache. Both were very good. They have a long indoor and out door seating area. Good music and chill vibes. Very friendly staff. I stayed at Brooklyn Kolache Co for four hours to do work and had a pleasant time. Although I had my headphones on for most of the time, it was by no means loud, and the wifi worked well. I got there at 10am on a Friday and had no problem getting a table with an outlet in the back room. I would go again. read more

I don't write reviews for things because I am lazy and forgetful. But I love this place enough. I'm of Czech ancestry but had never before had a kolache. They are incredible, like a sweetish perfect dinner roll/challah hybrid. One is plenty, whether sweet or savory, but I could envision myself eatings these until I am in pain. The coffee is also delicious. It tastes really low acid if that matters to anyone. The main reason I am writing this review is because I was startled by a bee in the yard and dropped my iced coffee and they gave me a new one for free. 5 star food and 5 star people. read more

This place,on the outside, doesn't seem too impressive. However when you step IN. You get enveloped by this nice comfortable ambience.. A warm coziness. The kolaches are pretty darn awesome. There was a very limited selection bc we came before closing time on a Sunday..nonetheless the kolaches were amaze-ing. I entered the store all excited to try one.. Though when I walked closer to the register and caught sight of the kolache display case I became a bit hesitant.. they looked like a sad bunch of kolaches.. Just sitting there .. At this point I wasn't sure what to expect but I remained fairly optimistic remembering the rave reviews on Yelp. Well I was pleasantly surprised. Both my latte and the kolache were perfect. The kolache was soft airy and unbelievably delicious. The filling sweet & so good. Kind of reminded me a bit of the Yemenite kubana bread I had a long time ago in a small way - with how airy & lightly sweet it is. The latte was made so well -the barista deserves 5 stars. I'd never had a kolache before, but now I'm a convert! We stopped in this past Saturday afternoon. Kolaches are Czech pastries that are apparently very popular in Texas. Delicious, flaky pastry with your choice of filling - I had a chorizo, egg, and cheese kolache. The chorizo was fresh and spicy and complemented the egg and cheese perfectly. They have both savory and sweet kolaches - blueberry, egg and cheese, beef, chocolate, etc. The owner is so friendly and even gave us a sweet kolache (chocolate and peanut butter) for the road. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? A great thing about kolaches is that they're cheap, often ranging between $2.00 and $4.00 even for the premium ones. The peanut butter and chocolate seemed to be your standard skippy and nutella knockoff, and the sausage and cheese seemed pretty basic. Again, these were really good, but there are better out there. As a native Texan, it was definitely nice to see kolaches in brooklyn. Their sign reads deep in the heart of brooklyn, which I thought was clever. The kolaches are tasty. I would like to see more variety. But the Texas smoked beef sausage and cheese kolache was pretty fantastic. The jalapeño egg and cheese was a little egg heavy and light on the jalapeños and cheese. The space is really welcoming. The backyard looks inviting. I'd definitely like to hang out with my laptop and one of those delicious looking coffee drinks. As others have mentioned, I do find it a bit pricey. In Texas, a kolache would cost $1.50. Here it's upwards of 3.50. No biggie when you are buying one, but makes a difference if you are buying 6! I came in yesterday after stumbling upon this place. I ordered a brown sugar latte after the cashier suggested it. It was byfar the best decision I've ever made. The latte tasted like little sprinkles of heaven! I am unsure if their products are organic but it was the best latte I've ever had. The other kolaches I've tried fell a bit flat -- sweet cheese, raspberry/red berry, and chocolate, but I enjoy savory dishes over sweet. If you're going for breakfast, two kolaches should fill you up. One kolache probably won't be enough. I recommend going early in the morning shortly after they open to get the best selection of kolaches and to avoid the crowd. They definitely run out as the day goes on. Try sitting out back rather than inside (which is dimly lit). The backyard garden is cute and feels a bit like a quiet oasis from the 'hustle and bustle' of Bed Stuy/Clinton Hill...You're sitting in the shadow of a beautiful church that is being converted into condos, and there's a few plants and trees that frame the garden nicely. read more

I've been meaning to try this place and finally got to when baby A's play place was nearby. We picked up a few to go and I really wish I got another of the cream cheese one, which was the one the cashier recommended to me when I asked which savory one to go with. I ate it super quickly then moved on to A's peanut butter and jelly that he didn't like but I loved because the texture of the bread is so soft and yummy. They have lots of different fillings some are more traditional than others. I have to say that I love poppy seed filling since I was a little girl. I bought a poppy seed kolache and a cheese and cherry kolache. However, their poppy seed filling needs some improvement. The poppy seeds were not grounded. In Eastern Europe everyone has different ways of making poppy seed filling, but the rule is the filling always needs to be grounded once or twice before or after cooking. The new summer hours make it a lot easier to convince myself to make the 30 minute walk from my apartment, even late in the afternoon. That said, if you can go earlier in the day, I would recommend it. My egg, cheese, and jalapeno kolache was still delicious, even at 4:00 pm, but I imagine they're pretty unbeatable earlier in the day. I got a small cherry limeade with my kolache, bringing my order to about $5 and some change. However, as far as I could see from their prep, it's just sprite and some cherry flavoring. Not necessarily a bad thing, and it was still plenty refreshing for a hot day, but I make a point to purchase things I can't easily throw together in my own kitchen.
