One of my favorite places in NYC. The Kolaches here are some of the best I have ever had. Autumn and crew have made this Texan feel at home with well crafted and creative Kolaches. Easy to order when you walk in with a flow that moves easily. When you walk to the counter, you can see all the different offerings and I find it satisfying that they have sourced some excellent sausage from Texas. Friendly service, smooth in and out if you are in a rush. A comfortable garden in the back to relax if you are able to sit a spell. I will make errand trips to make sure I have to go by Dekalb and Bedford just to make sure I can stop by. Its a good way to make people feel good with you bring Kolaches to the office. read more

I have been coming here numerous times for coffee since I work around the area,and while the drinks are great,the continous bad customer service I have received from the staff has been humiliating. As I ordered a latte today,I was told there would be a couple drinks ahead of mine and it would take a while. Since I was in a hurry,I asked if they could skip the latte art that they do on top in hopes of saving some time. I was met with a chorus of degrading laughs from the baristas/cashier saying the latte art won't save much time at all. The two stars are only for the consistent quality of the coffee,which I will miss but not enough for me to continue enduring the attitudes of the staff. I will not be returning. read more

Ok so I never had a Kolache before so I can't rate this place in terms of authenticity. But on flavor this place is awesome the sweet dough is very light and fluffy, maybe a tad too much as I do like a bit of chewiness in my dough. But the sweetness of the dough is right on point. I have been to this place three times in one week. Here is the break down of what I had. Apricot Kolache- Well flavored, the tang and texture of the diced apricot is nicely complemented by the fluffy sweet dough. Beef Kielbasa, Jalapeno and Cheese - Really good, the spice is just right and the dough is a bit more chewy and just slightly sweet it compliments the savory filling. This is what I will get over and over again. Pumpkin Kolache- Like pumpkin pie wrapped in sweet dough, individually they taste great, together it's a mushy sweet too much. Tried the coffee it was ok, but all and all I will be coming back here and recommend bakery addicts add it to there list of places to try. read more

They have spruced the place up and it looks fab! Love their coffee, espresso drinks, and variety of sweet and savory kolaches. Their baristas are not all that friendly but their orange roll is divine. Lots of space to plug in and do work, with seating up front, in back, and on their patio. As a Texan who is used to the Kolache Factory fast food type of Kolache, this place's Kolaches didn't wow me. These kolaches are the dainty, pastry, buttery kind-- not the dirt cheap fast food type you would find at Kolache Factory. Still good food, just that I find it overpriced and not at all like the ones I'm used to.. the cafe itself has a great vibe and would be a good place to work at. I'm a fan of both the coffee AND the service. There is sometimes a line, but I've never waited more than a few minutes for the picky hipsters to order and move aside. The food is great and reminiscent of the Czech Stop bakery in West, TX. They have great specialty drinks that change seasonally. Their price for matcha is the best in the area, and very good quality as well. My favorite drink is their ube latte with espresso. It was an unfamiliar combination for me but it was very delicious. Their kolaches are also good and they have discounts on them before closing. My favorite local cafe! read more

Update: I finally had my first kolache the other day (poppy seed), and it was awesome! All of the fluffy, chewy doughiness I love about doughnuts, but without the fried greasiness aspect and sugar rush effect. This place was great! I had an apple kolache and their brown sugar latte and both were delicious. The seating area in the back isn't huge but there's definitely enough seats to be comfortable, plus there's also some seats in the front. Their prices are very fair for the quality of everything, and I really appreciate that they have a lot of outlets on the side! Also, their bathroom was very clean, which is always very appreciated. Since my last review I've had their sausage/bacon, egg and cheese kolaches with hot sauce multiple times and they're GREAT! Consistently good. I'm not sure if my taste buds have changed, or if it's because I gave up smoking, but I've noticed lately that the coffees here are SUper strong. Some NYers will love and seek that out... in which case this is definitely your spot. However if you're like me and trying to cut down on the caffeine you may wanna skip. I noticed on 2 occasions my hands had the shakes after drinking it and that was a WHOA moment for me. I don't want that to sound bad, like there's something wrong with their coffee, bc there isn't. It's just strong and it's a preference thing. Then again, what is strong right? It's all relative to the person drinking it. My 5 to 4 star rating drop is mostly based on visits recently over the last few months, where every time I have gone to the back to sit and work, its been so loud in there and hard to concentrate. Plus, it's mid-winter now and I find it gets slightly chilly back there. The music has gotten steadily louder, sometimes blaring to me. I will say that I am hypersensitive to noise while studying or getting work done.. I like my quieter atmospheres.. However, I knew it wasn't just me when the other half said something about it as well, more than once, and he doesn't mind noise. I usually chuck my headphones on and that helps enough to drown out the other music, but ideally I wouldn't like to be having to turn my music up to drown out the cafe music. You know what I mean?? Off topic:- one day we went in there and every single table had a glowing Mac laptop on it. Didn't we feel "oh so poor" and "UN-hip" with our HP laptop and Chromebook. LOL. Still a fave local spot for us and we will continue to patronize. The owner is such a nice lady and so personable and we both like her and the staff. A genuine smile goes a long way, I say. They do make you feel very welcome and comfortable here. No problems coming back and giving them my business. May just have to have chai's or smaller coffee cups in the future ;) Enjoy! read more

I am a Texas girl, so I know kolaches!!! The kolaches were delicious, they are not Kolache Factory but Brooklyn Kolache Co. gets an A!!! The only reason they didn't receive a perfect 5, is the price and the portion. In Texas, the sausage in the kolache is long sausage link. Brooklyn Kolache Co. cuts up the sausage and makes a sausage bun. I had two for breakfast and one for later! Maybe this is the real Czech way to make kolaches or I'm just a gal from Houston!!! read more

Its kolaches are so good and they offer a large variety of them. All the drinks I've tried have been amazing and I frequently get a $4 growler of coffee to bring home. I love this place and am only giving it 4 stars instead of 5 because, every once in a while, you get a barista with an attitude problem who messes up the drinks (e.g. puts whole milk in a soy milk latte and then gets mad when called out on it). Back in college, a friend of mine used to make a homemade savory version with jalapeno, cheese, and sausage. And, while I had never seen or heard of a kolache prior to my time as a co-ed, I quickly fell hard for these historically Czechoslovakian treats. Suffice to say, it was "love at first bite." In paying tribute to the many Texas expats in my Mexican food Meetup group (www.Meetup.com/Manzana), I decided to host July's monthly get-together at Brooklyn Kolache Co. Flavors range from from the savory, such as bacon, egg, and cheese, to sweet, like lemon curd. Of those that I sampled, my favorite kolache was, without a doubt, the pimento cheese. Its warm and squishy exterior reminded me of a crazy cross-breed of a brioche bun and a potato roll. With density. This gave way to a creamy interior that was laced with cheddar cheese nibs and the slightest hint of spice. Dynamite! Although it's a bit of a hike from Manhattan, I would definitely consider Brooklyn Kolache Co. to be "destination worthy." As an added bonus, the venue boasts an intimate outdoor space for al-fresco dining. NYC weather permitting, of course. :) read more
