My friend and I went this past Friday morning. The shop was adorable, really spacious, and played great music. They baristas were very friendly. For breakfast we had the sausage, jalapeño, & cheese kolaches , an Apple kolache, a chocolate peanut butter, and a vanilla cappuccino. The cappuccino was one of the best I've had! I am finally taking time to write a review about this wonderful place. It is definitely one of my husband and I's favorite places to eat. We've been coming here for the last two years and have never been disappointed. All of their Kolaches are so delicious that it is hard to pick which one you'll get. We however have 2 savory favorites : -chorizo, eggs and cheese -sausage, jalapeño and cheese. Aside from the delicious little buns they do really good cappuccinos and coffee drinks. I found out about this cute place at a food event and had to have more. We went in the afternoon on a weekend and didn't get top pickins but it was okay we still got some great kolaches and coffee. Summer '17 Obsession: Brooklyn Kolache's LAVENDER LEMONADE. I've been stopping by all summer for this refreshingly floral and delicious drink. I'm not usually a lemonade lover unless its cut with something else (mango, iced tea, etc) but the lavender syrup is so perfect. Why are kolaches/klobasneks not a bigger thing in NYC? I'm sorry, but forget the bagel sandwich--this is the perfect breakfast/brunch food. This is especially a must-visit for Texpats who are missing their regular sausage and cheese fix (the sausage is appropriately spicy and lovely). Their ham and cheese is really solid - nice thick slice of country ham - and the rotating array of sweet kolaches is of course always delicious. I would put their kolaches up against any central Texan bakery. They have a really cute little patio, too, for when the weather is nice. Yall should all immediately put this on your weekend list and go get addicted. And then make it a craze so more kolache shops will open up in NYC. ;) read more

As someone who used to live in Texas a few years ago, you have no idea how happy this place makes me. The first time I had a kolache was when I moved to San Antonio in 2016. The first time i went there the food was pretty good. They have a different assortment of savory pastries and sweet pastries. This is where you go to for breakfast or a quick snack. Czech it Out. I first tried this place back when it opened, and was underwhelmed to be honest. You see, I grew up eating Poppy Seed Kolaches. Not the Texan iteration, mind you, but the Czech ones, which to my very foggy recollection, boasted much more filling and less sweet, yeasted dough. The dough to filling ratio here just seemed kind of off on that long ago visit and I never went back. Until recently: This time around, we tried several of the savory fillings, including Spinach-Feta, Sausage, and Egg,Cheese & Turkey, and while I only tasted the latter, everyone was really happy with their picks. These things aren't lookers, but what they lack in superficial appeal, they make up for in homey goodness. For old times sake, I also got a Poppy Seed Kolache and still felt like the dough to filling ratio was off. It was just too bready for me. I think savory is where it's at here. A cute little spot! My friend lived around the corner and she introduced me to this place and I'm forever thankful. Simple concept, simple menu. Great coffee, lemonade and tea. The staff is really really nice! And the pastry is fantastic! They have it in a million different flavor both sweet and savory! Ranging from cheese, to blueberry cheese, to swiss and ham, to spinach and feta, to mushrooms and goat cheese! Light and fluffy and if you get a savory one they offer you hot sauce and mustard! There is a sitting area in the back which is pretty big and a lot of people come to work here with their computers but the real jewel of this place is the outside sitting area! Soooooo good! Have only tried the lemon curd kolache bc all the rest are sold out by the afternoon. It's delicious! Get it heated up with a side of tea and it's that "sticks to your insides" food that's so needed in cold January. Need to try their hot chocolate which is made with heavy cream and ganache! Finally a great spot to get true Czech Kolache outside of Texas. This is a great coffee shop specializing in good coffee and wonderful Kolaches. The staff is really friendly and the owner being from Austin knows what a Kolache should taste like. We had one of the best decaf espresso's ever and ordered one of their chocolate peanut butter, sausage & cheese, spinach & feta, and bacon, egg and cheese Kolache. They were amazing. This place is alright. It never quite hits the spot for me when I'm looking for my classic kolache flavor. However, I do appreciate the options they have. I like how they stick to the tried and true kolache flavors like BEC and sweet cheese and berries. I live walking distance from this place and I thought I'd be a regular, but it's far too expensive. $4 for one kolache is insane. I can handle that on the rare occasion, but paying $8 for two kolaches is something my Texan spirit will never be alright with. I also don't feel that the price allows many people from the neighborhood to become patrons, especially when a more affordable bodega is across the street as a breakfast option. I do recommend stopping by this place during their end of the day BOGO. It definitely drops the price down to a more manageable level. read more

Went for breakfast to get a couple kolaches. Was my first time here and had no idea what kolaches were but wanted to try out a neighborhood shop. Butchered the pronunciation (it's Ko-la-chee in case you were wondering). Also was initially confused by the menu. Girl at the counter was a bit rude and passive aggressive, and I felt judged for not knowing how to order or pronounce this food that was new to me. apparently it originated in Czech and was made popular in Texas. Anyway wasn't too impressed by the things - spinach and cheese was my favorite, still warm fresh out the oven. I'm so sorry to be writing this--I loved loved loved Brooklyn Kolache and evangelized it to all my friends, encouraging them to try the fresh baked, incredible kolaches. I looked forward every year to the pecan ones that come in December. I still am obsessed with the Ube milk--however, something's changed with the kolaches, and not for the better. On our last visit, got 2 pecan and 2 blueberry kolaches and was shocked by how dry they were. It crossed my mind they might be old, but I couldn't believe that, based on prior experiences. However, the blueberry kolache was hot in some places and cold in others, which was dissapointing. It also tasted super dried out and the blueberry jam seemed drier and less vibrant than usual. The pecan one, on the other hand, shocked me. The dough was warm-ish, in places, while the pecans on top were cold. I don't know if it was the expansion that's causing this or just COVID stuff, but it was dissapointing to review these types of pastries right at opening. Even the time before this dissapointing one, I noticed the kolaches were pretty messy. I never had streaks of chocolate or other flavors bleeding into the dough of other ones, and that could be a huge turnoff for people who don't like a particular flavor that rubbed off on another kolache. The coffee is still excellent, as is the Ube milk, but probably not excellent enough for a treck from Queens. I came across this place after a quick google search and decided to make the trek from harlem. I was NOT disappointed. I spent my day getting work done, and I easily ordered 3 kolaches in that time. I even took some back to my sister, and they were still a little warm by the time I got home. The ingredients and care that they put into making their kolaches makes a hugeeee difference. Let me start with a tip: the kolaches are buy one get one free an hour before closing everyday except Saturday. On Saturday, it's buy one get one free TWO hours before closing! Woohoo! I tried a kolache for my first time yesterday. They have both savory and sweet options. I got the mushroom and goat cheese and grabbed a sweet one for my friend since it was BOGO free. I took one bite and was surprised at how soft it was! The mushroom and goat cheese pairing is devine and they put enough it so that you can get some in every bite. Never underestimate the power of a managerial response! I'd made it clear that I was on the fence about returning, but a reply on Yelp (before I went all Elite, so big respect there) brought me back for a second try, albeit some time later. This time I came by around 9 AM, and true to their word, the display case had an impressive array. Today I tried their bacon egg and cheese ($3.75) and apple ($3.00). I think that coming earlier in the day made all the difference. The bacon egg and cheese was delicious - the eggs and dough were soft, the bacon was crispy, and the cheese was melty goodness. My only gripe is that one bite contained an unfortunate mouthful of a spice or seasoning I couldn't quite name. Still, because it seemed to be all in a clump, that particular bite was overwhelmed. I suppose it was a freak mixing accident, but I would be remiss not to mention it. Now the apple pastry was phenomenal, so much so that I think the prices should have been swapped in respect to its quality. The emphasis is on the dough, but the filling was absolutely delicious. KOLACHE KOLACHE KOLACHE. I grew up eating these. I have a lot of family in Texas and have been flying back and forth since I was little. Smuggling BBQ on the plane isn't something that's really done so instead I was always the person that had half their suitcase stuffed with kolaches. The kolaches here deliver. I had the sausage, jalapeno, and cheese along with the poppyseed. The poppyseed was good but I'm not a big fan of the sweet kolaches compared to the savory ones. The sausage, jalapeno, and cheese delivered. It was wonderful and spicy (along with the help of their hot sauce and mustard). It was dough was fluffy, the ingredients complimented each other, and it was just delicious. I was actually surprised by how good it was. If you haven't had a kolache, BKC is a good place to start (ahem native New Yorkers). It takes you back the heart of Texas. I will definitely be back smuggling a purseful back to Manhattan. read more

What are kolaches? Honestly, I think they're a Czech doughnut with Texas influence but you can argue otherwise as I eat your kolache. Brooklyn Kolache Co is the only place I know that sells them and finally had the chance to try them. From the outside the space looks unassuming but from the inside, its actually quite nice and cozy! There are multiple seating areas and even outdoor seating for warmer weather working. There were a lot of people working and on weekends they don't turn on the wifi until 2:00PM which is an okay policy for me. You can choose from savory and sweet kolaches and I ordered one of each-the mushroom and goat cheese plus the poppyseed. Both really delicious! The texture of the dough has a nice chewiness to it. I did prefer the poppyseed one but it's because of my sweet tooth. At about $3-$4 for a kolache, they won't break the bank and much like doughnuts, they run out of the kolaches towards closing time so if you want to get one, the earlier the better. I have been looking for kolaches in New York for three years. Finally, Brooklyn Kolache Co. at the end of the rainbow. At first, I was pretty excited that this place even existed. But after actually stopping in and trying a Cherry & Sweet Cheese and a Chorizo & Egg kolache, I was speechless. These are the best kolaches I have ever had. In my life. And I'm pretty sure I ate kolaches every week at Sunday School growing up. Then I returned and got a breakfast taco and a PB&J kolache. I don't know what else to say. I am unable to convey with words the excellence of Brooklyn Kolache Co. The coffee was great, and you never know what to expect when it comes to coffee at bakeries. Surprisingly I haven't had a kolache yet and I've been to Prague, I chatted with the barista (who was super sweet and helpful by the way, wish I got her name so I could give her a shoutout on yelp) who informed me that kolaches were invented by czech americans, or specifically czech texans. I got a texas beef kolache and blueberry sweet cheese. I could see why kolaches are such a hit after my first bite. The bread was so soft it just blends in your mouth and it wasn't because it was buttery, it's because the dough's fluffy. The main star of the pastry was actually the carb not the fillings surprisingly. Savory kolaches are served with complimentary mustard and hot sauce, there's also free water in the back for you to enjoy your pastries. This place is quite the hidden gem in Clinton Hill, the interior layout reminds me so much of the Bun Shop in Baltimore, similar concept in food/cafe as well. I just moved in the neighborhood and had to do a couple errands in the area. It was rainy and all I wanted was to get somewhere inside, dry out a bit and have a good coffee. I stumbled upon this lovely little place (the great reviews on yelp didn't hurt) and I was surprised to discover these delicious kolaches! I just came back from Austria and was craving for poppy seeds (something you commonly find in Austrian, German, Hungarian, Russian baked goods and pastries), I just couldn't resist when I saw their poppy seeds kolaches!! Sorry guys, I really wanted to love this place, but unfortunately it didn't work out. I stopped there the other day on the way to school and got a sweet cheese and a sausage jalapeño and cheese kolache. Unfortunately, the sausage jalapeño and cheese did not contain any visible traces of said ingredients. I could maybe taste a hint of jalapeño aroma accompanied by what may have been a slight essence of cheesyness, but there really wasn't any sausage at all. I was in Brooklyn for a yelp event and thought to check my yelp bookmarks to see if I had saved any cool places to try out in that area of Flushing. It was after 5pm when the Kolaches are BoGo (double bonus). So that meant I just had to try 4 of them even though I had all intentions of getting just 1. Who am I to deny free food. There were only a few flavors left by then so I had to settle for some of them. -Lemon Curd, not very curdy to me, this is probably since it is an open face one and had dried out a bit by then. -Sausage, Jalepeno, cheese; nice and warm, wasn't my first choice but I liked the Jalepeno and cheese flavor a lot, the sausage was meh I actually took it out of half since it's so heavy -Orange Roll; looked like a muffin croissant hybrid but not sure if that's what they are going for. The orange glaze/icing tasted like fresh squeezed orange juice, very bright after the heavy sausage one from before -Chorizo, Egg, cheese; warm and doughy, wish it had Jalepeno like the other sausage one but probably the best of the bunch.
