Small restaurant but the food was amazing excellent service good price would recommend

When in New York, Italian food is a must! My friends had gone to this restaurant recently and recommended it, so we decided to go for Sunday dinner. I called the day before and made a reservation which was definitely needed as it was quite busy. The portions here are enormous, so based on past experience where they ordered 3 pastas for 4 people, we ordered more moderately. Our server was great and very accommodating. My friend is vegetarian so we asked what pastas they could make other than the vodka pasta and pasta alla Norma vegetarian, and he said basically everything could be made without meat which was a game changer. That night they had a fried calamari special so us non-vegetarians enjoyed that. It was SO good, seriously some of the best I have ever had. It was perfectly breaded and the sauce was so good. We also ordered the zucchini chips that were also incredible to share. They were so crispy and coated in parm, and had the same amazing red sauce. We decided to share the orecchiette with broccoli rabe, and got the sausage on the side. This was so delicious, we devoured it. Our server also brought us red pepper which really took it to a new level. The sausage was also delicious but the pasta was great without it too, like it wasn't missing the sausage but it was a great addition. Sharing 1 pasta was the right move as we were certainly full, but not overly full. Brooklyn roots is a great neighborhood spot, and you could tell there were a lot of regulars there. They also brought out fresh (free) bread that was soft and warm, that is from a local bakery. It's absolutely worth the trek to bay ridge! read more

The service was good, nothing over the top, but everyone was friendly. The food came out hot, but we had asked for everything to be served together since we ordered a pasta, meatballs, and chicken Marsala to share. Instead, the meatballs came out first, then the pasta, and finally the chicken. It wasn't a huge deal, but by the time the chicken arrived, the three of us were already getting full. One thing I'll definitely give them credit for is the portion sizes. For the price, you get a lot of food, and the pasta and meatballs were both really good. Unfortunately, the chicken Marsala was a miss. The sauce was incredibly sweet so sweet that we honestly couldn't eat it. We didn't say anything because sometimes a dish just isn't for you, but it ended up going in the trash. In hindsight, we probably should have ordered something else. The drinks were fine, nothing memorable either way. Overall, I'd come back for the pasta and meatballs, but I'd definitely skip the chicken Marsala next time. read more

Finally got to try this spot! Immediately upon walking in I felt right at home, place is typical Brooklyn with decor and feel. The waiter saw I was meeting my party and before I even sat down got my drink order -- now that's service! I chose a filthy martini aka dirty martini of course, which was up to my dirty mar standards. We got meatballs and baked clams for apps. The sauce and ricotta on the meatballs was fantastic, meatball flavor was great although they could have been a little more soft in texture. Baked clams were too chewy. My star of the show was my entree. I got chicken francese. HANDS DOWN BEST CHICKEN FRANCESE I EVER HAD!!!!!! Come here and try this. For dessert we got the bread pudding for two which was to die for, amazing dessert. And the affogato espresso martini, the bartenders are on point with all drinks. The portion sizes and service truly made this restaurant 5 stars. I came without a reservation on a Saturday night which was a mistake since we ended up waiting for 20-30 mins for bar seating. I knew we were in good hands since they were apologetic for the wait time though it was no fault of their own. The bartender was friendly, attentive and gave great recommendations. We ordered the beet salad & matty guns special. Honestly we were already pretty full from the salad alone. However, when the matty guns special came out we almost finished the whole plate because it was just that good. The vodka sauce was flavorful, protein was a plentiful, and pasta was cooked to perfection. The cheese was also charred and gave the dish so much texture. We also caved and got the bread pudding which was such a treat. Ended up being a good take out item since we re heated in the air fryer and tasted as good as the first night. The pasta was incredible and a huge portion. I also liked the beet salad and the creamy cheese underneath the beets. The burrata left something to be desired. The cheese was neither creamy nor runny and the idea of pairing it with eggplant was delightful, yet the execution was mid. The eggplant was so finely pounded and fried I had no idea what I was eating besides a brick or fried oil and flour. I would have preferred a lightly breaded eggplant that could paired beautifully with some runny burrata. The staff was kind and helpful, so if I'm ever in the area again, maybe I'll stop by. Brooklyn Roots was absolutely delicious! The food was spot on, and the service was excellent. Our waitress, Gabriella, was wonderful, very attentive, checked in with us often, and recommended the specials (which were fantastic). Even the rest of the wait staff stopped by to check in, which made us feel really taken care of. The space is a bit tight, but with a reservation you can get a good spot. Our meal ran a little longer than expected just over two hours but we thoroughly enjoyed the experience and can't wait to go back. The bread pudding? Bomb.com. Any entrée you choose is a win, and their savory sauce is unforgettable. The only small hiccup was with the lobster while we were eating and trying to figure out how to crack the knuckles ourselves, one of the waiters came by and helped crack the claws, but not the knuckles. I go here every time I'm in Brooklyn Service is always great. Table Location was always great, but this time we were seated at a table that was right next to a door that went down to the cellar. Every time someone went in or came out of the door, it stayed slightly opened and the smell was pretty bad. I had to keep pushing it closed from my seat with my hands while I was eating so that the gushing air coming up from the basement would not be coming onto my table and inhaling it. It was an active door so it was a lot of work. I should've asked to be moved to another table, but it was too much trouble. I had to stop eating the muscle appetizer because I couldn't do it in the same breath as the air ..I will still go back when I'm back in town, but I can still feel that smell in the back of my throat.. read more

This is by far the best Italian American restaurant in NYC and it isn't even close. It was by luck that my girlfriend found this place on tik tok. The food is out of this world, it truly tastes like home made food, the flavoring of every dish is superb. There is not one item on the menu that I don't like. They have the best vodka sauce in the world and their consistency is fantastic. I've eaten here over 15 times already and each time is as good as the last. The portion sizes are huge so you can absolutely share a pasta dish. I strongly recommend doing the following. Get their espresso martini it's truly amazing, for the appetizer do the clams, get the SPAGHETTI ALL'AMATRICIANA, with the calis chicken Parm. For dessert either get the Italian cheesecake or bread pudding with a cappuccino. The servers and staff are incredible. Every night we go they are so friendly, personal and give great recommendations. They always thank you for coming to their restaurant, the owner who's the head chef, is the nicest guy in the world, every-time we eat there he asks us how the food tastes. It's a beautiful cozy restaurant with artwork of Brooklyn and Italian imagery just a great ambiance of the restaurant. My husband and I ended up at Brooklyn Roots after walking around Dyker Heights to see the Christmas lights. We had never been to the area, so we looked to Yelp and Reddit for the best Italian food in Brooklyn and this spot kept coming up! As soon as we walked in, we immediately felt the "local" atmosphere: families enjoying dinner, a group of guys discussing fantasy football, and a few women at the bar unwinding with after-work cocktails. We didn't have a reservation and the dining room was fully booked (always a good sign), so we opted for open seating at the bar, which offers full service. Kate, our bartender/server, was fantastic; super friendly, genuinely fun to talk to, and incredibly helpful. She gave us great tips on the menu, advice on transportation out of Bay Ridge, and even recommendations for things to do for our last night in the city. She mentioned the meals were shareable, and she was not kidding. We ordered the chicken parm and the broccoli rabe, and both were just as delicious as they were HUGE. Even the bread and olive oil were great. Also, bonus points for the hilarious wall art in the restroom. Definitely added to the charm! Excellent atmosphere, awesome staff, and amazing food. Came here for the first time with my in-laws and we had a wonderful dinner. This restaurant is lovely and feels homey. It really exudes that old school style italian cuisine that the restaurant is known for. We were a group of 6 and had a reservation for a weekday evening and we were seated immediately, but shortly after, the restaurant got packed. Although the wait for our food was a bit long, it was worth the wait. I would recommend to make reservations ahead of time. Our hungry eyes ordered a bunch of entrees but to our surprise, all the dishes were HUGE. The prices are great considering the amount of food you get. The portions are big and great for that family style dinner. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and we were blown away with each dish. Our favorites of the night were the eggplant parmesan, lobster pasta, and rigatoni vodka. We definitely want to come back here and try out more dishes. Came here on December 20th and had a reservation for 7 people(originally 10) @ 8:30pm. Upon arrival we were told that there was a table that was still finishing dinner. To apologize for the wait, one of the staff members came out and escorted us to a bar next door and told the bartenders to give a complimentary drink and can wait inside instead of the cold. The staff were very nice and helpful. We didn't sit until close to 9:20 and because of that, we were offered 3 free appetizers which was very generous. Out of the appetizers we ordered, the OG Arancini was my favorite. The Parmesan and mozzarella complimented really well. I personally ordered the Marty Guns Special and the Cali's Chicken Parm. The portion sizes are big. This place is definitely a family style restaurant. Probably could feed 2-3 people. I enjoyed the flavor of the chicken parm and the pasta from the Matt guns special. It may seem a bit too salty for my taste but overall I did enjoy it. Overall, regardless of the wait, the staff treated us with hospitality and you can tell when you walk in, it has a family vibe to it. I recently celebrated my birthday at Brooklyn Roots Italian Restaurant, and it was an experience I'll never forget! My two good friends brought me there as a surprise, and from the moment I walked in, I was greeted warmly by more than one staff member and quickly shown to our table. Our waiter, Ridley, immediately made us feel welcome and took the time to explain the specials in detail. Not long after, the owner/chef came by to greet us personally--such a thoughtful touch. We started with drinks (the espresso martinis were incredible) and appetizers, including a beet salad that was just as delicious. For my entrée, I asked about the eggplant parm, mentioning that I don't care much for the seeds. Both Ridley and the chef were so attentive and reassuring, making sure my dish was prepared just the way I'd like it. And wow--it was absolutely perfect! Every main dish at our table was cooked to perfection, and you could tell how much care went into every detail. Then, to top it all off, dessert arrived and the entire restaurant, led by Ridley, joined in singing "Happy Birthday" to me. It was such a joyful and memorable moment. My only critique is that for parties of 8 or more you are required to order family style. It is listed clearly on the menu, but it was a surprise to most of us who had not previewed the menu ahead of time. This means that everyone in the group must agree on which tier within their family style menu to get. This did prohibit me from trying some other options I would have liked to order if I was ordering individually. I recommend previewing the menu with your large group ahead of time to avoid delays in ordering. It's still worth it considering how tastey everything was. read more

Let's start with the amazing hospitality and friendly greeting we experienced right as we entered. Stephanie was front center with a smile and greeting. When we explained that we we're from Southern California and had seen this restaurant on YouTube, Stephanie immediately made room for us and sat us down in spite of us not having a reservation. A friend recommended Brooklyn Roots for us to try. She used to live in the neighborhood. So I asked my partner and two friends who live close by to try it out. We came here on a Friday with a reservation. The restaurant was semi-packed at around 6:20pm. Two hours later, the bar and the restaurant were completely packed. You have to make a reservation if you want to sit down, otherwise, you may end up waiting for at least 15-20 minutes. The food portion is big for each dish. Thus, I can totally see the hype of being a great place to share and bring friends to. Great food overall. Although I would recommend coming here for mussels and pastas. You will see that as the night progressed, almost every other table has it. So, expect to smell a little fishy if you are not a seafood fan. As someone who is lactose intolerant, I ordered the pumpkin ravioli. I was expecting it to be on the savorier side, it wasn't. It tasted more like a Halloween dessert. Other foods like chicken parm, chicken salad, and steak were great. Our friend who ordered the steak also ordered a glass of wine. He enjoyed it. All food come in a big portion as mentioned before. So come ready to share and take food home. I would recommend this place for a big group of friends. However, just note that this is a small restaurant so don't expect to stay there past two hours for catch ups on a busy night. Also, there is only one shared bathroom. Wait a little if you need to go. You do gain an opportunity to watch the Spanish speakers in the kitchen cooking your food while standing outside waiting for the bathroom. Personally, I was a bit annoyed towards the end of the night as we were rushed to leave. While the party came after us stayed longer and didn't have the same experience. Brooklyn Roots is the kind of restaurant that feeds your soul! I don't have a single negative thing to say. I was able to get a table on a Saturday without a reservation which I appreciated. The restaurant was bustling with patrons inside and out. Lots of families and couples on date nights. We started with some Sauvignon blanc and the mozzarella en carozza. Wow did it hit the spot. Very filling but I was so happy I had the option for it to come with vodka sauce. For dinner we ordered the lobster pasta and the Cali chicken parm which also had vodka sauce and roasted garlic. The servings are huge!! You will not leave hungry. In fact, you'll probably leave with leftovers. I missed classic Italian restaurants like this. So often now do you get these tiny portions of just okay food.. not at Brooklyn Roots! I also loved that they give you bread and oil for the table. Again, just a nice touch that really makes feel comforted and like you're getting your bang for your buck. We took our entrees to go to save room for dessert and I'm so glad we did. After looking at the reviews, it seemed like bread pudding was the move so we took the plunge. It was amazing! It doesn't look beautiful, but it's super caramelly and buttery. This place is a must when visiting Bay Ridge. The atmosphere is old school Italian with Frank Sinatra and Etta James playing on the sound system. We sat at the bar for a wonderful experience with the Bar tender Willie who has been there since they opened. The Chef / Owner came out and spoke to everyone giving a welcoming feel. So many good options in the menu we were ordering and Willie said we will not be able to eat that much. He was so right we shared Muscles and Matty Guns we couldn't even finish. They were so sweet and welcoming, the owner even offered my Mom to try a couple of meatballs which was really nice & generous. She loved them. Aside from the delicious meatballs, what got us to make reservations (which were for earlier tonight; Wed by the way) it was really because of their warm welcome and hospitality, which is typical Italian! Earlier tonight I brought my Parents & my Sister. We ordered 2 orders of Arancini, 2 orders of Broccoli Rabe & 2 orders of BKR Orecchiette & Chicken parmigiana, all great portions. I placed a phone order for pickup (seafood abbondanza, lobster pasta, and chicken parm) on 4/1/2026 and was told the total would be $140. At pickup, I paid with my debit card and saw $140.50 on the screen, so I trusted it and didn't ask for the receipt. However, I later saw that $165 was actually charged to my account. 10/10 I was recommended this restaurant by a friend, and I had to try it out to celebrate my mom's birthday! It was my first time here, and WOW, what an amazing experience! The chef was absolutely AMAZING - super personable and greeted everyone with a smile. His wife, Molly, was a DOLL . Everyone on the staff was the sweetest, and the customer service was PHENOMENAL! I made a 7pm reservation, but with kids, things got unpredictable, and I was running late. I called to adjust my reservation to 7:30pm, and when I arrived at 7:07pm, they still seated me right away - huge kudos for their flexibility! The FOOD was PHENOMENAL - huge portions! I got the Matt Gun Special and ended up getting an extra plate to share with my husband. And let me tell you, their vodka sauce was TO DIE FOR - so good that I asked for an extra side of it! My mom ordered the Mixed Seafood Linguine Platter with lobster, shrimp, and mussels, and it was incredible. We couldn't even finish all the food and had to pack it up to go - my kids LOVED the food, and neither can I! The cherry on top? It reminded me of my family's cooking. It was delicious. The portion sizes were like home too. A big portion that's so good you try to eat all of it, but wind up taking half of it home. My new "go to" restaurant. It was packed with people and if the restaurant was double the size it would be packed with people too. I like the whole "old school concept" but the food was mediocre at best. I should honestly be giving a one star for the horrific chicken milanese, it was soaked in lemon juice, so soggy to where it looked like it was in soup. - But the service, the atmosphere, and portions was enough to make up for a three star. My father would have loved Brooklyn Roots.. why? Growing up in Canarsie, my parents were always looking for authentic Italian restaurants to dine in. We traveled from Canarsie ( Emilio's) to Coney Island ( Gargulio's) to Bay Ridge (Gino's) to Sheepshead Bay( Randazzo) to Kings Highway( Chart House). My father would drive anywhere to get the best Italian food so I know he would have driven to Brooklyn Roots. The restaurant pays homage to old Brooklyn with murals of Coney Island even the street Brooklyn Roots occupies. We were a party of four and were seated in direct view of these murals which is pretty neat since we all grew up in Brooklyn and can relate to the Wonder Wheel. BR has two different menus, Regular and Family style thus if you are a large party Family Style may be the way to go. (However, be warned, meals on Regular are hearty and generous) As we reviewed the menu bread and olive oil were served. We decide to order the following: 1. Mozzarella in Carozza: usually one thinks of deeply fried mozzarella but this was served different: lightly fried ( Panko?) mozzarella served with 2 sauces, vodka and marinara. Both were smashing! We saved the vodka sauce for dipping. 2. Caesar Salad: practically a meal by itself, generous portions of shaved Parmesan cheese, greens and croutons ( dipped those in the vodka sauce). Delicious 3. Entrees: Shrimp Parmigiana was served with half dozen shrimp. My friend loved the sauce and the meal. Eggplant Parmigiana: here was the one flaw, as you can see from the photos, generous portion and beautiful presentation, however, there was a mound of breaded.. breaded... tiny slivers of eggplant. So disappointing because eggplant is one of my favorites. The server asked if both patrons wanted to take our huge portions home and I had to be honest and communicated our disappointment. 4. Sides: another small flaw was the entrees were not served with a side of pasta so we ordered a side of penne with garlic and oil and penne with marinara. Both outstanding 5. Alcohol: I was the only one drinking ( so sad). I ordered a glass of Sauvignon blanc from California which was on point and Aperol Spritz which was tasty 6. Desserts: too full to order 7. Service: professional, warm and outstanding In summary, a great meal and the manager comped the two eggplant parmigiana entrees which we didn't expect. If you are looking for authentic Italian food in a warm and intimate setting BR is the place. I know my father would have driven us to Brooklyn Roots time and again. read more

Passed by this spot and finally found a day to order from here. I placed an order for pick-up through the phon. When I arrived, my order was ready. All the staff were get friendly and welcoming with greetings, made me feel like I should've dined in instead. We ordered the chicken parm and the Matty guns special. The orders come in large trays and came with bread. Omg my socks were completely blown away by how delicious both orders were. I think i can eat the Matty guns special everyday. The texture of the pasta was prefect. THE SAUCE. OMG. It was so good I wanted to save every bit of it when the pasta was all gone to use it as dip for other things.
