I have to tell you I love Sluggers. It's tucked away off the main drag in Red Hook in is essentially a warehouse that was retrofitted for baseball training for kids. The front desk staff is friendly and efficient while being pleased to explain the myriad options you have if you just drop in or you want to come to a class or maybe host a birthday party. We've experienced all of the above and they've all been excellent. Sign your kiddos up for baseball clinic and they will have an incredible experience. Multiple stations, varied & quality instructors and a tightly run ship that keeps the kids motivated and consistently learning for 2 hours. Come in for 30-60 minutes in the batting cages to keep your skills sharp (but reserve if it's a weekend to be safe). Birthday parties are fun "typical party style" but with a baseball slant (obviously). Sluggers is a great place to bring your Littles for valuable instruction and an all around fun time!

    Is there a softball cage?

Each of the cages provides the option for softballs! You can mix it up per cage too at any point.

I think its around $2.50 or so no more then $3 for 15 balls

There's also a room in the back where one could work out, if concerned. It's been great for my mental health during these times. Second, the trainers are SO courteous, knowledgable and professional (and fun). I'm not only getting in shape, but I'm also receiving a resistance training education here, haha. They take into account your goals, any past injuries and limitations in range of motion, and design a personalized workout plan for each month. There is a focus on how to breathe properly during lifting (to maximize the benefit and avoid injuries), core exercises, and mix of bodyweight/band/free weight exercises. Finally, yes, this gym is expensive relative to a non-training gym. However, you get the education for life, and it is sooo much cheaper than getting a personalized trainer elsewhere. I feel grateful that there is a gym like this nearby.

I've been in NYC for well over two decades and been a member of many gyms. Really, all of them. From luxury chains to neighborhood spots to everything in between and Brooklyn Health and Performance is the one place that I have found true success. They're motto "this is the last gym you'll ever join" is 100% spot on. I do semi private training with a custom workout and I add on unlimited bootcamp classes and it's everything I need to stay focused, accountable, and keep things interesting. The boot camp classes are different each day and the custom programs are on a 4 week cycle and get more difficult as you do them. Just when you feel you're getting slightly comfortable with them it's time to start all over. It's this combo that has lead to a complete transformation both physically and mentally. I can't say enough about the great team here. Friendly, knowledgeable, and serious about what they're doing.

This was very beginner friendly, the instructor, Summer, was very personable and offered modifications to the exercise if needed. There are multiple stretches during the class which helped to slow down and catch your breath. I really enjoyed it, was definitely sore the next day but worth it. I also followed up and did a foundational class with Rosy, which was amazing to fully understand the various moves that are used in the classic classes. The instructors are all so friendly and remember your name. I appreciate the correction of my form while doing the workout, really helps motivate me during the classes. Rachel Eve, the manager, has been great as well - I don't think I would have continued to sign up if they didn't follow through but also to ask how my classes went! They take as young as 2 months. The instructor was fabulous. She really paid attention to form and was quick to correct you (but in a nice way) if you were doing it incorrectly. Every time she corrected me I felt the exercise get harder so I knew I was definitely doing it wrong before. On the weekends the classes get packed so it can feel a bit crowded in the room.

Aside from workshops (I attended two onsite retreats with special guest and guru master Ragghunath Cappo), their website's calendar is packed with Kirtan and retreats (on my bucket list) as well as YTT. The instructors vary in their style of teaching and I'm sure all are very good. I've experienced a few but the owners Amanda and Bobbie tend to be my faves.
